NEW Root on my Xyboard MZ617 Jelly Bean 4.1.2 - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Background: n00b and lurker to XDA. Thanks to all the devs here that allowed me to root my RAZR, Note3 VZW and XYBoard MZ617 ICS.
I upgraded to JB 4.1.2 thanks to RunAndHide, but foolishly did a FDR on ICS before flashboot JB, thus losing root, Safestrap, etc etc.
Searched the xda forums, etc, pretty much everything. Then I ran across this post
http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/36033-root-for-razr-hd-9301-m-98301-confirmed/
on DroidRzr .com by kc6wke'. It directed me kc6wke's thread here:

I just wanted to make sure it was not a mistake because I have been waiting for a root method before making the jump = ) The whole samsung thing threw me off.

100% confirmed!! XYboard 4.1.2 root method
In my situation the update for jelly bean would fail over and over so I used RSD and the stock 4.0.4 Fastboot image to restore my Xyboard,. I then took the OTA to 4.1.2 and used the root method in OP's 3rd link and it worked like a charm!!

This ROOT works PERFECT on my MZ608 ICS 4.04 from Brasil > updated ROM to MZ609 US Verizon ICS 4.04 > then updated from original system to JB 4.1.2.
CONFIRMADO
Muito obrigado!!! :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
Esse ROOT funcionou PERFEITO no meu MZ608 ICS 4.04 do Brasil > atualizado para ROM do MZ609 americano Verizon ICS 4.04 > depois atualizado pelo sistema original para JB 4.1.2.
ROOT ( ATTENTION - the command "TRYING TO DISABLE KNOX" must spend about 5 minutes - BE PATIENT - follow the steps and it's works fine! )

The method I linked works.
Is it seriously too much work to revert to an older version, gain root, save root, then update and regain root?
If it is, maybe you shouldn't be bothering?
Just Root using Universal Xoom Root, then flash the latest Super User from here http://androidsu.com/superuser/ using CWR I used the Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip from then I gained root on 4.1.1

[Q] Root on 4.1

hi all,
i want to ask you guy's if there is already a root tool for JB 4.1 because all the tool's in the android developer's forum are for 4.0 .
So is there any tool that root's 4.1 ?
Thank you
After you unlock the bootloader using the tool from Asus's site (yes, the ICS unlock tool works on JB), follow step #3 from the link in this thread.

As of now, there are no root tools for 4.1 without unlocking. Only option os before upgrading from .30 firmware install SuperSU and backup the root using rootkeeper. Restore root using rootkeeper.
You can always unlock your tablet like mentions in the previous post.
Will have to wait for devs to figure some method to root with locked JB bootloader.

To answer your question, yes it's possible. Tutorial should work on your Canadian Xoom.

That is correct - root your Xoom and install a recovery (TWRP suggested) and the 4.2.x rom of your choice, I've had very good results with the EOS 4 for wingray. stable and version 4.22.
look in the android development section of this forum. All the details are there, as well as a selection of ROMS to choose from.
Guys I think he meant to use GED. That's not hard to do @FreNKiii download the US stock version (you can find the link in Xoom General) and then flash it with fastboot, remembering that you will need to have unlocked BL

[Q] Can new phone VRBMF1 be rooted?

I just got a new GS3 with VRBMF1 (latest 4.1.2). Tried two versions of Casual, and the "unified toolkit". None of these seem able to root this device.
Any pointers, guidance? Can this be rooted? Seems like a lot of the messages I've seen are from rooted folks who want to upgrade to VRBMF1 without losing root -- as if they're afraid that if they lose root they'll never get it back. That can't be a good sign...
I was able to root with Casual on the official mf1 update.

I have used casual to root MF1. I prefer to use Odin when I root or unroot. There are several threads with guides. Just follow the steps.

Just follow open1your1eyes0's guide step-by-step from Steps 1 to Step 4. Step 5 (Restoring your Jelly Bean Bootchain) is not required.
[GUIDE] Root for Jelly Bean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 OTA ***UPDATED 5/29***
I was able to get my stock 4.1.2 VRBMF1 rooted with no issues. Good Luck!

I found yesterday when trying to root my brand new warranty MF1 that I lost 4G connectivity. Is this related to using the VRALEC bootchain? Sorry if this is a noob question. In any case, is there a MF1 bootchain available? That is the only part of that guide that makes me really uneasy, despite it being listed as optional.
