later sumsuck - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 General

I have had enough, went out and picked up a HTC one m8. Killer phone and HTC actuality supports modding. Key to unlock bootloader was a email away. They can blame att but funny HTC still gives you every thing you neet to root, unlock bootloader and s-off in less than five min.
Going to sell my s4, Funny the way to root the s5 is out before the phone.

Lol I'm selling my s4 for the nexus 5. Bored of this. Anywho ib4l.

[Q] Who else is returning there ATT One X ?

I went from IPhone 4s to the ATT One X for the larger screen and wanted to get back to root and roms etc.. ( had rooted infuse b4 4s) but with the boot loader locked etc... I am really wanting to return it on the 28th day and wait for the Samsung G3.... thoughts?

but we have such beautiful things to look forward to!!! Plus whats going to be better about the gs3, besides perhaps battery life and memory expandability. this is a much better looking phone with a better camera

Well, if you really in love with one X designed, you need to be more patient. Sooner or later the bootloader will be cracked. Otherwise, go for GS3 and start flashing by next month

I moved from an iPhone 4s to this phone. Out of the box with no mods it's streets ahead of the 4s. Thing will only get better with time. I'm in for the long haul. I predict that only even number Galaxy releases will be worth a crap anyhow. Galaxy S Captivate= bad
SGS II was great.
SGS III designed by lawyers. No thanks
Not having the ability to command the phone via Bluetooth has me seriously considering returning it. Once I got my Android tablet my iPhone 4 was barely used for anything but music and phone calls but at least I could dial out without looking at the phone, an important feature for me since it's illegal here to operate a cell phone while driving a vehicle without using a hands free device.

The ONE thing that may cause me to take this phone back is the completely crippled multitasking. I'm tempted to keep it for the hardware, but it's virtually useless when I can't even multitask between two apps without the state being saved.
I did use siri a lot in the car, and I think the 4s takes better pictures. But the screen on the one x is a lot better for my old eyes. The SG3 with the voice app, removable battery and SD card storage along with the whole ATT not letting HTC unlock the boot loader makes me want to return and switch. I have also read that the SC3 will get updates a lot faster than HTC and that Samsung is a lot easier to root/flash
Agree, coming from the iPhone 4 the additional screen real estate is fantastic. I loathe itunes and many things Apple does differently so I seriously don't want to go back but commuting without voice command is going to be painful.

Don't be on samsung pushing fast updated. I had the galaxy2 and it took forever to get updates from sammy. Also their hardware was always an issue. Poor gps, poor radios etc. I might return my OneX due to the multi tasking issue but I would not got the III.
The wifi, push email, multitasking, and app association (youtube and market links open up in browser, not the app) issues all bother me greatly. I'm planning to install the 1.82 RUU update and see if it fixes at least wifi and push email. If it fixes both of those, I will probably keep it and just deal with the multitasking and app association stuff. But right now I'm definitely planning to return if wifi and push email aren't fixed soon.

I bought an iphone 4s in the beginning of March, took it back in less than 3 weeks. Maybe it's me, I don't get the hype. I'v had an infused, Atrix 1 and 2
and I tried the Nokia Lumia, which honestly wasn't a bad phone, just lacking in apps. This phone will be here for the long haul!!!
Love the One X..better than Vivid even and I loved my Vivid...Inspire before that, which was good for the time period..Samsung is OK but feels cheap when you hold it..

Simple 3rd grade english.
And no, I'm not taking mine back. Not sure why anyone would. It's the best phone on the market right now, and for the foreseeable future.
Don't be a supercilious, condescending, and annoying grammar nazi. It's the internet, mistakes ARE allowed.
Truthfully, I can live with this phone being locked for the rest of my possession of it. So there's no reason for me to turn it back in for a sub-par display and design when I'll eventually get the experience I want with the One X.
Trading mine for a white nexus. I love this phone no doubt but stock AOSP feels right.

Personal opinion, this is the last time I stray away from Samsung that galaxy 3 is going to be way better phone + hacker / dev friendly .

Lol no phone company likes devs, they blame everything on us....... They give us the bare minimal ( all of them Samsung, HTC, etc) they couldn't care less if less than 5% of the people who buy their phones: want to mod, flash a custom, unlock, etc. We are the minority they will always cater to the majority and companies first. ( ATT one x still can't be "officially" unlocked) HTC locked down by att, Verizon has( had) Samsung locked down. There in it together lol. They send people to the forums and take (steal) ideas then sell them. Such as with the one x and its remap of the recent button for menu. HTC didn't think of that s+++ did anyone on xda get credit for it when it was released in future software updates? No.
So to think carriers or manufacturers would care if none of bought a phone from them again is off the mark.
They make me emotional.... End soap box..
That's all I have to say about manufacturers and phone companies.

Only one guaranteed. Samsung already released a statement saying from now on they will scrutinize future software updates even closer for their devices saying a decision will be made by looking at the phone age, specs, compatibility with touch wiz, etc.
Some say they already do this and its obvious they do. All this statement by them did was tell its customers they can no longer "expect" every android update that drops.

that's just some bypass with aroma.. but still, we shouldn't have to use fastboot for anything, except unlocking our bootloader, and simple adb commands, and flashing recovery.. each update plugs another hole
2.20 firmware - all exploits closed (besides drjbliss')
1.14 hboot.. fastboot to flash a kernel.. really?
2.14 hboot.. kernel write protection on the system (bypass found, but still no kernel source) + fastboot flash.. ok?
let's not forget having to spoof our CID to unlock the boot loader (AT&T) <---- Verizon does this too, like with the Droid DNA
Oh, and s-on
I'm out when the "nexus 5" (dub) drops, and I probably won't consider HTC ever again.. However, the HOX was a great investment over any other android or an iPhone 5.. But I can't take it anymore.. even if I wasn't a dev, I'd be fed up with it
/end rant
This is why I am tempted to jump over the the nexus 4 right now, while I am still considering waiting to see what the GS IV will bring, if Samsung decides to lock it down, I will be buying the nexus 4 right away and never buying another non nexus phone again.
I got the One X after owning the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. I have to admit Iwas a little shocked once I realized how much they lock these phones down. Even though I am with Rogers, and allowed to unlock the bootloader through HTCdev, it still bothers me that any HBOOT update could screw over my ability to flash things like radios or having to use fast boot to flash kernels. I don't want to be told how I can use my phone.
It would be like buying a new laptop with windows installed and finding out that I was locked out of formatting the hard drive, and couldn't install Linux, and then finding out that the bios was set up to only work with that hard drive and couldn't be swapped out.
No one would think about locking gown a computer like that, why do they want to do it with phones.

AT&T S4 IS bootloader locked. CONFIRMED according to Samsung and others.

According to Koush on his G+ apparently the AT&T and Verizon S4 will be bootloader locked. Whilst the Verizon one probably will be the AT&T one would be a shock. I can't imagine this is true as the other galaxy devices on AT&T haven't been but I thought I'd let people know if this is the case I imagine it will be bypassed .
UPDATE: according to the engadget review they contacted Samsung who confirmed the s4 is bootloader locked. http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/24/samsung-galaxy-s-4-review/
UPDATE2: according to many sources one being Steve Kondik on he G+ the AT&T S4 is bootloader locked.

I don't think we should be all that concerned if this is true. I am coming from the HTC One X, which was rooted on day 1 on XDA and the bootloader was unlocked on day 3 or day 4 on XDA. If it is locked, it is only a matter of time.
if its locked im pretty sure adam will be more than willing to help unlock it like he did for the vzw s3 and note2 considering his main carrier is att

completely different than a htc. they are in no way locked the same way the htc unlock was basically a bypass of how htcdev worked. this will actually take hardware level scanning etc. and then finding an exploit somewhere in the bootloader or the pit
Wait, what? Link?
Yeah, where are you getting your information?

if the bootloader is locked you'll go to HTC Lololololol - you are aware that HTC locks all their bootloaders right?and if you wanna flash roms on the go you have to also s-off the device...otherwise you will need a computer for every Rom flash...or flashimagegui.apk if it supports your phone. And lately HTC s-off has required hardware tampering like my HTC vivid...you literally to short the phone while running a program with a wire...HTC is the worst android company (nice phones tho...) Same here. I'm absolutely done with HTC as a company after the Raider.
Who'd have thought that my decision to go with them because of solidly built devices and a good out-of-box experience would go so awry? Here I come, crawling back to Samsung (had an SGS1 previously).

The Nexus One was a great device, and I loved it.. But I've been quite disappointed with HTC ever since.. I like to give every company a fair shot, The One X (international version) was the last straw for me.. To be completely honest.. IF the Sony Xperia Z or ZL had the snapdragon 600 chipset, I would most likely be getting one instead. I can't justify spending more on that device with an older chipset for more money off contract. S4 is $639 before taxes.. Though I do have a Premier acct, so I'm going to TRY to get them to give me the $100 discount as well.. Never hurts to ask, ended up getting my launch date S3 for $49.99 after they matched Best Buy, and gave me the premier discount.. It's all in whom you talk to...

Happy b-day One X!

On this day, the awesomely designed, awesomely fast, and awesomely picture taking One X was released to much fanfare. If only HTC would have market this phone aggressively, things may have been different. Here's to another year with this awesome device :good:
Yes I can remember thinking I'm gonna get that phone, I went to stores to check it out and they said sold out. In the next week I learned apple had sued htc and blocked devices from entering customs. I was bummed as att store said phone may never be available. I had a strange idea and I went to a 3rd party att non corp store and guess what , they had phone . I was so happy as att didn't get phone it for about 2 months. I've never liked a phone better, the HTC one looks awesome as well

I got this phone on launch day on AT&T (May 6) at my local RadioShack. It was the only one they had. I got home and had so much fun with my beautiful new phone. Then in September I discovered this whole new world called xda-developers. It was like someone had just taken my phone and given it a shot of adrenaline. I was so overjoyed. I was naïve and like many new users, it only took me a month to soft brick it, and without a Windows PC I had to wait 5 days to fix it. I learned from my mistakes. In November, my phone got the qhusb_dload glitch and wouldn't turn on I got a new phone and have never looked back. Love this phone.
Same here... I actually got mine may 5th

lol i got mine on radio shack too a couple days after launch day.Went to like 3 different AT&t stores before i went to radio shack though. Good thing i got it or else i would of had to wait a while for the 1.85 root. Rooted the phone and installed Clean rom on the same day i got it.

[Q] Verizon GS4 or M8

Has anyone went from the GS4 to the M8? What are your thoughts of the M8? I love my GS4 but I really hate how Verizon and Samsung are locking down the phone and lets not talk about the slow updates to the OS.
Thanks
The GS4 is still an absolutely amazing phone, but I made the switch to the M8 and absolutely love it. My S4 is still on the MDK bootloader and I had a little more freedom of flashing, but Samsung has made it known that its never getting any better. I won't argue build quality or specs because they are debatable to no end, but personally I love the M8 already.
FWIW, I was running Hyperdrive on the S4 and I'm currently on Viper on the M8

Has anyone went from the GS4 to the M8? What are your thoughts of the M8? I love my GS4 but I really hate how Verizon and Samsung are locking down the phone and lets not talk about the slow updates to the OS.
Thanks

Well, you can S-Off the M8. So development should be awesome for a long time (there's already at least a dozen roms and maybe a 1/2 dozen kernels).
That aside, it's a beautiful device, it's fast, it's and Sense really isn't bad (though I don't use the Sense/Blinkfeed launcher).
I switched over from a GS3, and I'm never looking back to Samsung. Sense is about a thousand times better than TouchWiz (imo) and the M8 just feels quicker than my friend's S5. Granted the Samsungs have more features, but they're features that I would never use and I happily trade them for the build quality and ease of customizing offered by the M8

Came from a gnexus. Kind of illrevent but this phone "if you know what your doing" is the best phone out hands down.
The moment I got it I went home unlocked and rooted it. Next day Viper came out and it's been sexual ever since.
Fast, snappy, quick. This phone runs like butter.
Not trying to sell you but I'd buy.

Is your S4 unlocked? If so I wouldn't see a large need to upgrade to the M8. An unlocked S4 is a great device.
If it's locked, then yes this is a pretty big upgrade.

M8.... In comparison the only thing the s4 has is the removable battery.

Yeah it's locked , root has been the only reason I stayed with it.

M8 IS THE WAY TO GO. I still have my G2 but verizon really pissed me off this time around for not updating the phone on time like other carriers just for the sake of selling the M8 and S5. I love the G2 camera and all but its locked down and very few dev. Xdabebb being the Bomb.
Anyway i got the M8 and I f...*&^%$#@ love it.
Now the M8 prime coming out in september makes me even more jealous. I would suggest you wait for the M8 prime if the rumors are real.
Without question the m8 kills the s4 in everyway....just my opinion but the m8 is amazing
Is HTC or VZW going to lock down the M8? I'm currently on a GS4 with the MDK bootloader workaround running Hyperdrive, but I prefer AOSP ROMs.

I went from an s4 to m7 to s5 to an m8 only thing I miss from galaxy phones vs HTC is the camera. IMO the galaxy camera worked much better. The locked down s5 I only last 7 days with. The rest of the phones are unlocked/ s-off/ rooted running custom Roms. S5 felt sluggish compared to m7(rooted/rom'd) go for the m8 but also try both phones out at the stores see which you enjoy more

Much to our dismay, Samsung has made great strides in device security with Knox and has been very vocal about it. I assume this is a movement to capture much of the enterprise market as security is a big deal there.
However, I have not seen HTC make the same kind of moves or express a similar agenda, so there's that.
But, yeah I think Verizon is going to want the guys at Qualcomm to patch this up.

I choose to get the M8 over the S5 because of the S-Off and I am glad I got this phone.
I had the S4, so I was in between the S5 or M8, seen the M8 had unlocked bootloader and root, so I figured S5 would not be so lucky to have that within weeks. I am using ViperOne Rom and its amazing really customizable ROM. I get awesome battery life with this phone and it will work from the time I wake till I sleep pretty much every day with my typical use and still have 25% or more battery life when I go to sleep.

I went from an S4 to M7 to M8. I still use one of my S4s randomly. I love the S4. Here's an idea of the two phones and how I feel about them...
The S4 right out of the box is nice, but it only amazing with a rooted and gpe ROM on it. New kernel etc.
The M8 is awesome right out of the box. The M7 is awesome right out of the box. Tweaking will refine the experience, but the phone isn't dependent on swapping everything out. I am still using the stock ROM on my M8 and M7, and I will likely keep it that way. I've tweaked them, but they're still stock mostly.
Hope this helps!

I too came from an S4. I absolutely love the M8 best phone I've ever used. I've had the S3 as well and I'll never get another Samsung phone. Just ordered my fiance a glacial white and she can't wait to get her hands on it after playing with mine.

Had the m7 went to the sg4 now back to HTC with the m8.. same reasons as identified by other members.. Knox, unlocked boot loader for htc. I love the front facing speakers and have to say sense 6 isn't that bad but way better then touch wiz. like someone said play with the phones see what feels better but if your into flashing roms and altering your phone more then mods HTC would be the way to go.

I don't get what's going on with Verizon. The Samsung devices on sprint, t mobile, and international are not locked down the same way. Meanwhile, the last two HTC devices have achieved root and s-off without Verizon seeming to make much of a fuss. Maybe they're fine with HTC, LG, and others being more developer friendly...?
