double tap to wake is not equal to double tap to "move"
Well if I just give it two taps the display comes on and I can see my active display. When lg marketed the feature I thought it was neat so I double tapped my phone and viola, it works.

It's hardware dependent. Some devices have kernels that implement a wakelock for a brief amount of time that then respond to tapping. This seems useless as it's keeping your phone from sleeping and only works for a brief time after screen off.

there's an app for that. I can't remember if it was the gravity app or another one. Chances are though, it would kill Active Display's precision
i prefer doube tap to lock~

Lets Get this Note 3 party started!
The LG G2 has the knock on feature by stock default, called "KnockOn" since it has its only buttons on the back.
I currently run an app called PGM along with Fancy Kernel on my Galaxy Nexus this provides the same functionality.
Phone on desk in sleep mode, screen off. TAP TAP! on the screen and she wakes up.
Hoping we see this implemented on the Note 3 as its a feature that everyone loves and uses all day long.
Does your Galaxy Nexus suffer battery loss because of using that feature?
Sounds cool, I wouldn't mind that feature does it require root?

It will very likely drains the battery a bit

I have installed it in my brothers nexus 4...app is called touch control
Battery drain is very minimal
Needs root and custom kernel

The Note 2 and 3 has a home button that will wake the screen, so I see no need for me to use a knock-on feature..
I have it right now on the Note 2 using a different kernel and trickster mod app. Only issue is that if your pants have a thin inner liner your leg will turn on the phone. Same thing happened when I first did it on the Verizon Nexus. So it's not phone specific.
I'm sure that issue can be rectified with some enhancmenets for example :
- While Offscreen, reduce screen sensitivity
- If Offscreen AND touchwake event occurs, check light and proximity sensor, if both are dark and proximity==1 DO_NOT_WAKE_SCEEN
- Etc.
As for the dude who said the home button wakes the screen, that might be true,
but When you handle the Note with one hand, it is very uncomfortable to click the home button, skipping it would be awesome.
There was no appreciable drain on the galaxy nexus.
sounds interesting going to give this a try. As so for why we need it when we have a physical button? Because of its size. You don't have to reach all the way to the bottom to press the home button.

in the note 2, what kernel?
thx
I would like to have it in my Note 3 that has sview cover. I like to knock the s window to open. I don't like to touch the hard keys all the time.

I really hope Samsung implements this natively.
was hoping someone on XDA would come up with an app or something
(do I really need to flash a new Kernel for this? :/)
This would be cool, it would also extend the life of the hard keys.

Yeah hope they put it in natively

is there anywhere we can put forth suggestions to Samsung? haha
I really don't understand why aren't the companies making more use of gestures on the phone...
double tap at the top of the screen to scroll to the top
double tap at the bottom to scroll to the bottom
etc
Yeah if its in a custom rom or kernel then it must be good

But isn't clicking the home button (1 click) more efficient than knock on (two clicks)? From what I've read about knock on on the LG g2, it's not awfully reliable as well.

Is there a app that doesn't lock the screen when the display turns off, I find it a bit annoying on android to turn on the phone, on symbian I just had to press any key to turn on the display without unlocking it, and lock it only using the lock key.
I prefer a app like LG G2's Knock On.

theres a kernel here what does what you want ,well i think it does
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565299
I don't want to upgrade to a CFW now. I prefer enjoying rhe phone on stock than to deal with minor hindrances which ruin the experience on a CFW, like the camera bug mentioned in the thread you quoted to.

You're out of luck then unfortunately, custom kernel is the only thing that offers it right now.

Such a basic thing that symbian had but android doesn't, I am disappointed with Google.

Just go to settings and set lock screen to none.

Wrong there is an app I've been using for a while called intelliscreen theres at least two I know definitely work i use them to stop my phone from sleeping while I'm downloading from the internet

Thanks for the apps but with both the apps the phone gets locked after the screen turns off, I wanted a app that turns off the autolock of phone and just turns off the screen to save power. So I can press any key on the phone to see the screen without unlocking it each time.

I can press any key except the volume rockers which leaves the obvious power button and the home button will turn my screen on and with no lock screen it does what you want it to.

If you double taped the power button sure
There are some apps on the play store, but expect some power drain

The ideia would be double tapping the screen, not any button
Not really a button rather the proximity sensor for some apps. You can use trickdtr too
Also there are init.d scripts you can use if the kernel supports it. But again to my earlier point, expect needless battery drain for a somewhat gimicky feature. But if you like it there are options if you search

I came from the G2, and loved knock on. The M8 has motion launch, but with that its all or nothing, you enable all the gestures or you get none at all. Is there a way to get a more knock on like feature?

Not quite. It works only when it thinks it's in portrait, and all the gestures have to be enabled. I need only tap to wake.

Go into settings , display and gestures , g sensor calibration and calibrate it poorly intentionally slanted against a book or whatnot. It'll think you're in portrait when you're not. To unable separate ones you'll need to be rooted but the xposed module sense 6 toolbox has the option to disable select ones. Hope this helps.

Awesome, s2,s3,note3
It doesn't actually turn off the screen. In fact, this program sends a black wallpaper to your screen.
Not good.
Screen is continual on.

Being the screen always on will that affect the device
Wow
Hmmm the whole point of this being on the LG G2 and 3 is because having to pick the phone up everytime to check messages etc was a bit frustrating. However, this app is TOTALLY pointless on the Note 3 where we have 2 (potentially 4) ways of turning on our display.
1. Use the damn power button located on the right of the device.
2. Use the damn home button. You know....that big button in the lower centre of the device.
3. If you have the mod. Press either vol up or vol down to turn on the display.
4. If you have Quick Glance turned on. Hover your hand over the proximity sensor....
This app is just unnecessary.

First of all waking up the screen using sliding or double tap is more easy and it will save these buttons from being destroyed by repeated pressing ( dont look at one day or even month use I talk about longterm use)
Also it is a matter of personal like to use an app which u may not like but I consider ot useful
The question here is that will it affect the display or the device on longterm use or not
Anyone who may know the answer please respond
Thanks

All you have just said makes no sense whatsoever. Buttons are there to be pressed, they wont depreciate over time, hell I've still got a nokia 5110 from 2003 and the buttons work just fine! This app if anything will drain your battery because it must have a mechanism inside detecting when someone touches the display.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium App
When I installed this app last night my battery was at 55%, but when I woke up the battery was down to 15%! Shame because I like the app but had to uninstall it unfortunately.
Wow, this app is really that battery consuming? I really love the idea though, waking up my phone just tapping the screen
Of course, It will drain your battery, Coz its working through sensors and app will run in the background. I had htc x in that dev used some code itself in kernel, that was working very well and battery friendly. I hope our note 3 kernel dev will consider that and include it in future kernels.:good:

Couldn't said it better myself.
it's not necessary to port every damn feature from other devices to ours. It's way easier to press the home button than to click on the screen.
And no... buttons won't be destroyed. Haha that comment killed me.

It's a great feature in my circumstance.
I frequently use my Note one handed. Unfortunately, my thumb isn't very elongated to reach for the button. Double tapping on the screen to wake is a godsend.
