rooted kitkat 4.4 downgrade back to jelly bean 4.2.2 - Droid Ultra Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My droid Maxx 4.4 is rooted using Jcase's instruction (FXZ, Cydia Impactor, Telnet, etc.). I don't like Kitkat because of shorter battery life and a few others issues. I would like revert back to 4.2.2. Could I downgrade back to 4.2.2 by fxz with 4.2.2 xml file? Thanks

Not unless you have an unlocked bootloader.

I have an unlocked boot loader and am wanting to downgrade for the same reasons. I'm familiar with flashing Roms but not rsd or fxz. Anyone know how I could downgrade to 4.2 and if there are any con's to doing so?
Thanks.

Yes going from 4.4 BACK to 4.2.2 has to be done a certain way or possible brick. Wasn't too say you can't flash the TZ Boot.IMG and maybe something else research it here before you attempt it.
Do not trust me that those are the only files you can't flash haven't done it and not searched a lot into it.

I assumed you were rooted. Yes you need to root to flash. Go to Nexus S general and sticky for root guides. Easy stuff once you read up and have a go.

I went back to GB, 2.3.6, used this as a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1785672
You also have to install FOTAkill.apk before the phone connects to the network, to prevent the phone from downloading and nag you to install ICS and JB.
The end result of going back to GB, is a fast, no frills phone with very good battery life.

Use the link posted by @billford above. This has a step by step for on how to do it. Flash proper factory image by Google.

I don't see why you have to downgrade it back to 4.0 since jellybean is better in every way.

[Q] how to root/flash ROMs after OTA 4.1.1 update?

I recently updated my verizon galaxy s3 to android build 4.1.1 but now I decided that I want to root my phone and flash some awesome ROMS. Droidstyles guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709) seems really easy to follow but I just want to make sure it works the new verizon baseband version I535VRBLK3 (4.1.1). Can someone please help this noob so he can flash all these bad ass ROMS I keep reading about?!
I used this tutorial ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439
[GUIDE] Root for Jelly Bean OTA ***UPDATED***) where you flash a different boot chain, root, then reflash the original. Works perfectly, I flashed CM10 to my GS3 this morning and it works great!

Thus is the only method so far. I'm sure droid style will update his guide soon, but right new this is it.
You can follow his guide for ROMs though

Rooting problem

Hello everyone, im new to android. Ive jailbroken all my iphones but cant seem to find a way of just rooting. Im on official ota 4.1.1 ive found tons of instructions on rooting and custom roms but it seems that I need to install/flach a custom rom. I just want to root snd use my stock firmware. Is this possible? If so, how? Thanks
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Use this guide and flash the no-wipe version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1984436. It is this file:http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390214368362234350. This will flash a pre-rooted version of the JB OTA and keep all your settings, data and apps untouched. You can stay just stock rooted at that point, or you can proceed to unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery if you want to. Or you can use this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046439. It is a little more involved and can be more prone to errors for newer users.
Thank you, thats what im looking for.

Thinking more and more that this is a Verizon issue. I have received it for the last 24hrs when trying to pull the JB update. Was able to pull the 6mb update just fine Sunday. Hearing the same from others, regardless of where they are in the downgrade -> root -> update process.

Have you tried contacting Verizon about the issue? I went the Moto route this morning, which was a complete waste of time.
Would it be possible to simply keep this stock rooted ics rom on stock rom slot of safe strap and then download jellybean roms and put them on the others?
Maybe no need to even take this ota updates that aren't working.

I tried this. It got me absolutely nowhere. My roommate went through this process Sunday with no problem, but for some reason as of Monday updating is not working
used RSD lite and flashed the latest JB. but obviously lost root.
Nice to be back on JB... but was hoping id keep root. Verizon needs to get their stuff together. unless someone else has a diferent method.
Did you have to have the 0.7.2 update to do that?

Same issue
I have been having the same issue. Bought a new Razr HD and have been trying to complete the downgrade/root/upgrade process since monday. Nothing I have tried has worked as far as downloading the 6mb update file, rooted or unrooted, WiFi or 4G. I have searched the internet high and low for this file, but no one seems to have it???
I also used RSDLite to flash back to 4.1.1 I did this from ICS via Razr HD Utility without the 6mb update no problems, but obviously lost root.
I hope this issue is resolved soon, because I'd really like to be on JB rooted.
Edit: I had to edit the 4.1.1 XML file removing lines containing "getvar" for it to flash. Full instructions can be had here on xda.
I am going to have to do that too. Thanks for the help. I'll search for the xml edit, not sure how to do that.

It's pretty simple. Heres how I did it.
Download VZW_XT926_4.1.1_9.8.1Q_39_VQW_CFC.xml.zip from droid-developers
Extract the file to your desktop (or wherever), find the .XML file in the folder and open it with notepad, or your editor of choice. IIRC there were two lines with "getvar" in it, just remove both of those lines completely and then save the file. Now boot into Fastboot, open RSDLite and connect your phone. Now load the XML file that you just edited and flash back to JB. Hope this helps.
If I do manage to find the 0.7.2 update file, I will certainly share but no luck so far.
Thanks again! I can't wait to get off work to do this. I'll let you know how it goes

ok, sorry, i dont get it... cannot figure out how to put the xml into rsd lite and load it.
Found the update...6mb... on another forum. Flashable in recovery. See droidrzr.com

I was downgrading from JB to ICS in order to root, but once I rooted ICS, I couldn't download the 0.7.2 System version update.
Now I go Settings>About Phone> System updates and an error message pops up says "An update is currently being downloaded. You will be notified when the download is complete." But it has been saying that for hours and I don't see it downloading anywhere.
I can't update to JB with out the 0.7.2 System version update from 0.6.25 System Version...
Anybody seen this before?

Known issue. You will have to downgrade to ICS root and then flash the two updates in recovery, the otas won't download for whatever reason.

Root for KitKat AT&T

Is there root for AT&T 4.4?
No there is not but in the at&t thread there is already a way so you can be rooted and have custom recovery
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes.

There is no way to root kitkat on any device without either unlocking the bootloader or reverting to a root able build of Android first.
Flashback
I've been looking into rooting the D80020 and I think you have to flash back to D80010 (for ATT) then you can root and (possibly) update to Kit Kat. I haven't done it yet but planning on it soon.
I just did that 2 days ago. Flashed back to 10d, rooted, flashed twrp with freegee and then flashed stock kk. All told, took me about half an hour. Now I'm rocking rooted kk, couldn't be happier with the phone.

I used the same thing for root. Cant use a custom recovery though, but since I just got the phone yesterday I'm cool with using stock for now.

use ioroot25 to root.
Then install https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=edu.shell.freegee_free and install TWRP.
reboot into recovery and install the rom.
Before doing anything download the rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672931 and copy it to your phone.
