I got an HTC One S from a friend who got it from another friend. I don't have any history on the device. He gave it to me to fix because I'm the only Android user he knows and his phone won't start.
If I keep the power button pressed, the capacitive buttons flash exactly 15 times and occasionally the phone vibrates. I don't have a One S so not sure if that indicates that phone was started or shutdown.
Neither fastboot devices not adb devices shows the device. But every once in a while when it vibrates, if the phone is connected to the PC with a USB cable, it beeps - like it's connected. I don't see Android Phone in Device Manager. But I see a MTP USB Device with a yellow exclamation mark. Uninstalling and reinstalling HTC Drivers didn't fix the problem.
I have tried Power+Volume Down key. Shining a torch on it (seemed to work for a few people), keeping it plugged into the mains for 3 days, kept it in the freezer for 2-3 minutes (also seemed to work for one person).
I think when I first got the phone and plugged it into the mains, I saw a red charging light. But I may be mistaken. In any case, there is no light anymore indicating charging. But I don't think that's the problem.
I have no idea whether the device is bricked or not. And if there is any way to fix it. Samsung has Odin which makes any Samsung phone practically unbrickable. I haven't used any HTCs since the G1 so have not been in touch too much with the HTC development. But from reading, it seems that messing around with Romming with S-ON can cause the phone to be bricked. And perhaps that's what my friend or his friend did. Does this sound like that's what could have happened?
Thanks for any pointers.
I dont think the device is bricked. its just a little harder to press the power and volume down when you see the buttons flashing.
just check and do these steps.
connect the mobile to charger and see if the orange light comes and stays on
if the orange light is there, press the power button and keep your finger ready near the volume down button
you should keep the power button pressed and as soon as the orange light disappears you should press the volume down button until you end up in boot loader screen
give this a few tries and see if the device boots up in bootloader

The problem is that I no longer see any light at all when I connect the phone to a charger. It's probably fully charged. Would that show a green light? If so, that's not visible either. I have a feeling that the bootloader has got wiped out or something.
I read in one post that the phone may be stuck in the QHUSB-DLOAD mode.
So I followed the steps in http://unlimited.io/qhsusbdload.htm. But that didn't help. I don't remember the exact statement since I was running an Ubuntu Live CD. But the gist was that it couldn't connect to the phone so presumably it's not stuck in QHUSB-DLOAD mode. Although the site states that it will NOT fix QHSUSB_DLOAD issues encountered by flashing ROMs - which may well be what may have happened.
I understand that running an RUU for the HTC One S may set it back to factory state. But for that I need fastboot to work.

Hey guys.
I have an interesting problem. My Fuze battery drained a few days ago. After I plugged it back in and booted the phone, there is no light on the screen, keyboard or the button and no charging like shows up on the center circle.
After plugging it into the wall and powering it up, i can hear the phone booting. Once booted i can call the phone from another phone, the phone ring and I can press the talk button and take the call/press end to end it.
I tried doing a (blinded since there is visual light) hard reset (stylus/power button/volume button down/up combo) but unfortunately I have one of the EnergyROMs where the volume button functionality was not working so i dont think .
I also tried plugging the phone into USB to see if i can flash another rom, but the computer does not even recognize a device has been plugged in (even if tried searching from it using device manager)
Searching the posts have not yielded any information. Should I consider this phone dead?
Ali
Do a search on the MTTY tool, this might be able to connect & hard reset the device. Keep playing with it, you may get lucky or get some better advice soon ! Good luck
Hi!
Using fwdn I bricked my tablet. It wont even power on.
If I keep power button PC will detect the tablet by the USB port but if I release it it will disconnect from usb.
With power button pressed you can forward boot.img, recovery.img, etc. but when I release it it will disconect from USB. If I press the button after forwarding firmware it wont power on.
I think it it not 100% dead but I dont know what to do.
I guess the partitions are broken (internal filesystem).
Does anyone have an idea or a suggestion of what should I do? There is nothing else to loose here so we can experiment
Thank you!
I'm guessing this is similar to other things I've read where people flash with other images that isn't from the iM7. I did the same thing, but mine would just flash a quick second of the splash screen then the screen would be black.
Try this...plug your tablet in with the power adapter (might work with USB too). Then hold down the home button, press the power button but keep holding the home button for about 30 seconds. If you can get into the recovery screen you should be alright.
You can check this thread:
http://www.androidtablets.net/forum...imito-im7-market-restore-firmware-update.html
I've been researching for days now to get this one I got off craigslist to work right (still not 100%) but it at least boots up.
Did you guys get an answer to this issue yet? I tried upgrading my iMito7 and completely bricked it. the damn thing won't even power on. I'm experiencing the exact same issue. The keys no longer function, the screen won't power up yet the light in the back is green indicating that it's fully charged.
trashed it
The title is pretty self explanatory. Noticed when i woke up that neither the power, volume or the camera buttons work. They still clicked when pushed but no function beyond that. The phone its self still worked before i pressed the yellow reset button next to the sim card slot. when i pressed the yellow reset button the phone vibrated and turned off, never to come back on. When i plug it into a charger it still has the LED light except its off so i cant just press the power button to turn it back on. When plugged into the computer, then computer recognises that a device has been plugged in (makes the dun-duh! sound) but the phone is not recognised by either the PC companion or Sony EMMA. Same deal with pulling it into a mac. The Sony mac companion program pops up automatically , it says it does not have any device connected, despite it popping up when i plug my phone in...Ive put adb on my computer and tried adb reboot but again it does not recognise the phone while its off. Is there anything i can do to fix this phone or at least turn it back on? I've spent enough on getting this phone prepared as it is so a DIY fix would be great.any help at all would be much appreciated, thanks
I too am having issues while restarting my z3 after switching power key does not works.

No luck unfortunately. When i plug it into the computer the Sony logo pops up and goes to the charging screen. When i press the yellow button just after plugging it in it just restarts and does the same thing. Thanks anyway
That's exactly what happened to my phone last time, managed to get it started after some random trials ( it started using the normal power key after removing it from pc & letting it rest for some time)
Keep me posted if u manage to solve it.

Will do, I've gotten in contact with the sellers and they are happy to inspect the phone for warranty claims to see if I've done anything to it to trigger the breakage, so ill be sending it off tomorrow . You may not be able to answer this but i might as well ask, I got a whole screen replacement for the phone a few months ago as i had dropped it and the screen had smashed etc. The screen replacement all went well. Do you think the re sellers will know/care that the screen has been replaced? Will it impact upon my warranty claim? I don't plan on telling them I've gotten the screen replaced but I'm just worried they'll find out and say my warranty has been voided.
I replaced my phone's speaker from 3rd party, right after that I am having problem to restart the device.
I think Your warranty is probably gone.
Try to flash Ftf file,i didn't cause I don't wanna loose my root.(changing between roms help a bit)
when you open the phone and remove the battery, you can see like some flat wires. those connect all your buttons, screen, loudspeaker and other things to the motherboard. I'd say that the problem is in this flat wires if the buttons do not work. It can be changed but don't try it if you do not have some practical skill since the z3 is not really an easy phone to repair, it's all glued >.<
ps.
this is what i'm talking about, to be clear: http://www.ebay.it/itm/FLAT-FLEX-TA...008493?hash=item2c9efe04ad:g:4QkAAOSwyQtVt5MY
Hello! I could not find a section for my phone, so I am posting here.
My Zenfone 5 Selfie/Lite (ZC600KL) randomly "bricked". After being left alone charging for 20 minutes, when I came back it was turned off. Holding the power button resulted in the phone showing the "Powered by Android" logo, then the ASUS logo, and stop there.
I don't think it's a battery issue as it always lasted a long period of time; this is the first time anything like that happens, and might be the last. I also never tried meddling with my phone (rooting or the likes of it), so I'm pretty much clueless. I messed around with the phone, turning it on and off for a while, letting it run out of battery and charge it again, leaving it stuck on ASUS logo over night, to no avail.
Here are some things that I noticed that might help solve this problem:
1. After I connect the charger, the screen shows an empty charging battery along with the LED showing the red color (which means no battery). After 5 seconds, the screen turns on again by itself to show the true state of the battery, which is whatever % it is right now and the correct LED light (orange/green).
2. Turning on the phone makes the "low battery" buzz followed by a normal vibration. If it's charging, the "No battery" red LED shows.
3. I can turn on the fastboot mode by pressing Volume + and Power, but it only shows "CSC Fastboot mode!!! Long press power key to shutdown device". While on fastboot, my computer recognizes the phone is connected through USB, but I cannot access the phone's storage.
4. Pressing Volume - and Power does nothing besides restarting the phone.
My english isn't the best, so I apologize. If there's anything that I messed up and you can't understand, please do tell me.
P.S: Zenfone 5 Selfie is the same phone as Zenfone 5 Lite, but it is known by both names for some reason. Thanks for reading.

Exactly the same problem and phone I have here and Google research has been useless plus it appears this model phone has many firmware versions also
I have tried flashing firmware in fastboot mode but the ADB and fastboot tools won't work as it shows write protected as it appears bootloader is locked and am struggling with QPST also got so desperate to get phone working I even checked out some of those android repair software like DR fone then realised they want $70 USD and instantly removed the software haha
Hope we can get answers but seems like that maybe no one has solutions for this
Was watching youtube videos last night before my phone died, now I can't get it to start boot into the OS. Not sure if this is relevant but my power button had been a little finnicky- rather maybe not the power button itself because it doesn't feel stuck or anything at all but I noticed that it would take an extra second or two after pressing the power button to get into my lock screen. I never really paid attention because it only happened once in a while and I would just restart my phone and be done with it. However I can't even get into the lock screen or anything now.
After my phone died last night I plugged it in right away and came back a while later to turn it on. I tried turning it on but noticed my phone just kept rebooting. It's still repeatedly rebooting and I can only get in the fastboot menu by holding down both volume buttons when rebooting. I get the options power off- which just reboots it after a while, start - which just reboots the phone, restart boot loader- which literally takes me back to the same menu, recovery mode- just reboots and show barcode which shows the barcode at the bottom of the menu.
I've tried downloading the qualcomm driver and trying to get into EDL mode but don't see it on my pc or msmtool, i'm also not even sure if i'm trying to get into EDL mode correctly. I've tried disable Driver signature Enforcement and then redownloading the qualcomm driver but still no luck. I don't know what else I should try. Someone please help me out, i'm pissed this happened just because my phone died, about to have ptsd whenever my phone is at 5% fml.
Also after seeing the 1+ logo and powered by android on the bottom, sometimes I would see like a line of color, which I would assume is text not being rendered all the way, fade out and then the phone shuts down and reboots itself.

Which OOS build are you on? And your device is unlocked or not?
Getting into EDL mode is tricky. Power off device completely. With the device powered off, hold down volume up and volume up at the same time, keep them pressed all the time, and during that time plug into PC (phone all the time powered off). Still hold both of the buttons. By the time you plug into PC, you should be in EDL mode, BUT it only lasts about 10 seconds. I mean you have to click start in this 10 seconds time bracket, other way phone exits EDL itself. After you click start, you can release button, obviously
