[HELP[TIPO DUAL]]Contacts lost... - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

I need help for this problem, I installed some mod for the Contacts that looks like Z1 somewhere in the forum, then when I rebooted my tipo dual the Phone icon is gone so I restored the backup apk from the stock phone/contacts after wiping cache and dalvik, I rebooted. After that when I opened the Phone and Contacts there is no contacts left, Is there any way that I can recover those contacts?? when I opened my messaging app the numbers are still there but the contact names are not.... please help me, and also whre might the android store the contacts numbers and names???

does anybody know where android stores contact names and contact numbers?? so I can backup them w/o the use of any apps

FIXED
okay, I fized it by myself, just searched for the Nandroid backup mine. I found out that the files/contacts are in "data/data/com.android.providers.contacts" I just recopied it from my old nandroid backup and Fixed the permissions using TWRP,

Titanium Backup help

Hey guys i need some help, i want to install a fresh rom and just want to restore my Texts(sms) and contacts, any idea how to ? i try restoring SMS but it never comes back, but if i do the whole restore, i get my texts back
Thanks, BTW i got the pro Version
The trick is to find the CORRECT file(s) to restore. For example, I use Handcent for SMS. So I restore the Handcent app & data and then all of my SMS comes back.
Note: in order for you to see your contacts after restoring them, you need to reboot. (At least I do!)

Have you tried restoring the mms.apk data? I know you need that file to send sms so maybe they are stored there. If you type contacts into the edit field it should bring it 3 or 4 .com options restore data in the first or second one and reboot and your contacts should be there,j just did on my girlfriends transform but cant remember which one I restored get contacts with.
For the future it is easier to export your contacts to your sd card and download gosms to backup your sms

I'll try that and let's hope it's the right file.

[Q] contacts2.db overwritten on boot

chopmeister said:
Hi all,
I have an X10 which had 2.1 stock FW installed.
-got root, dualtouch, xRecovery all working
-synced contacts to google
-made a backup with xRecovery
-flashed FreeX10 beta 4, gapps, hotfix, market, all sucessfully
Everything worked so far. And then when I synced again, all contacts were without phone numbers. So I logged on to google to check and yes all contacts were without numbers there too. So I though what the hell, I'll revert to the backup and sync again. But the backup kept WLODing. I tried all possible combinations of wiping cache and restoring and whatnot. So I decided to do things manually:
-extracted data.img
-found contacts2.db
-opened adb shell and deleted current contacts2.db file and replaced it with the old one with all the phone numbers, changed ownership to app_1.
And I thought that should be it... Instead what happens is that as soon as I launch Contacts app, the contacts get reverted to the first state, ie. without phones. The funny thing is, if after the whole procedure I tap really fast on the call log, I can see al the old calls and the old contact names - everything - but just for a second, and then from nowhere one by one everything gets overwritten again by the just-deleted ones. How is that possible, and what am I doing wrong?

This is my problem (except for Nexus S) and this thread got no replies. Thought I might check if the Nexus S community has any thoughts.

[Q] Contacts Restore corruption, please HELP.

Hi to everyone.
I am Tommaso, from Tokyo and I need help BIG time.
I backed up all my contacts on my SD card and deleted them from my phone.
When I restored them some "fields" were missing, amongst them "organization" which is vital for sorting: Now I get a long list of numbers (*) and then the remaining contacts sorted by name (correctly). (*) In these contacts the "organization", "Job Position" and others are missing while others as "notes" and numbers are still there.
When I try to send an email, and I try to look up an email address, instead of giving me a list of names, it opens File Expert, with a file address: fe://home and nothing else.
To back up I used Go Contacts (the stock app is disinstalled): export to SD card.
In theory, besides this original backup, I should also have a second back up with Titanium because it is set to backup & syncs with dropbox everything, every night. However, this happened last night and I forgot to freeze the image so I am afraid that tonight's back up might have replaced the correct version.
hTC Desire HD.
GB 2.3.5
Sense 3.5
CoreDroid 9.2 GB 2.3.5
I would really appreciate someone's help. You can imagine how dramatic it is, so TIA for any help.
Tommaso
Idea
Why not first use the back up to restore your phone first then
Go ahead and check the things inside the back up
Sorry if i am wrong it sounds like you are actually checking the contacts on the back up itself rather than letting the phone restore the back up and then viewing the contents
if i am wrong sorry for the speculation
I would like to ask also try using other Apps to restore Back up and restore
I would ask also what is the file output that you have ?
for your back up ?
Thank you for your post!
I did as you suggest: I physically restored the contacts to the phone.
Ok, I will try to install another app but it is unlikely anything will change: I backed up using Go Contacts so restoring with Go Contacts should have worked.
Go Contacts backup file is "vcf"
Titanium backup file I don't know what it's called or where to find it.

Did you say that your Titanium Backup for the contacts was already overwritten?
If you have set up Titanium to backup your apps/data automatically on a schedule, you should preferably set the backup history to more than 1. This is in case there is an error in one of your apps, and the automatic backup saves the erroneous version, you can restore an older backup from the history. Otherwise, your last backup will also be corrupted.
If your think your Titanium Backup for Contacts is fine, you don't need to look for the contacts file separately. Just go into titanium backup -> clcik on the back/up restore tab on the top -> look for Contacts -> Click once -> Click on Restore.
Repeat the above for Contacts Storage.
Not sure if I addressed your problem.
Thanks for your help!
I tried to restore from titanium back but I could only find GoContatcs. I cannot find "contacts storage". As I said, I have no idea if AND where GoContacts stores the contacts separately so i don't know which file to look for to restore.
I restored GoContacts (app+Data) but 0 contacts were restored.
Thanks for the tip. I am now setting Titanium BU to 2 backups. But I still need help!
Restore ROM Manager Backup
If I restore a previously backed up ROM, will this include contacts?
To restore a previously backed up ROM, do I need to FIRST factory reset the device? Or does the restore simply overwrite my present ROM? Do I need any other precaution/procedure to restore a previous ROM?

Now when I have installed original Whatsapp. I am asked to restore from the backup. When I tap on restore, it Crashes at 84% and shows a error. I don't want to lose the backup.
PS1: I have managed to solve the crashing problem' see the solution in the posts down.

Try to uninstall Whatsapp & install once again, or if you prefer to check older versions: http://whatsapp-messenger.en.uptodown.com/android/old
It it doesn't help- leave only the latest backup file + 'msgstire.db.crypt' in the 'Database' folder of whatsapp. Other option is to check if you got
several whatsapp folders stored in device's external/internal storage, and leaving the newest one

Hi,
This issue is interesting and I have been looking for options, so you can solve your problem. If the problem is the version, as sasan_blue says, you can go to the Aptoide web, and search the old versions of whatsapp there. I was able of download different versions of whatsapp on my PC from that web.
I can't paste urls...
EDITED: Sorry, I was writing this thread while amirTor gives his answer. The English is not my language mother and take long to write. I think is best the amirTor solution.

Thanks Guys. I got it solved by completely uninstalling whatsapp using Titanium backup app, and installing it again. It was a problem of incomplete uninstallation. (I had rebooted the device before the uninstall process finished). The problem persisted because I have been uninstalling using regular method. Also it was not a problem of a corrupted backup in my case( as I had thought).
PS. I had installed an older version too. It asked me to check my date settings. it didn't peroceed any further. I guess it was becoz of the outdated version.
HI, i have installed and rstored whatsapp a million times or so, when flashing and switching between roms. last night i tried something funny, and it cost me tooo much.
I tried to install whatsapp for another number(my phone is dual sim), while sms verification was happening, it got registered via my previously registered whatsapp no. Now even after i deleted the new no. account,i am still not able to get my old account back. when i give my old number, it doesn ask for sms verification, and goes to local backup directly, but fails there and throws error. on the other hand, i can verify the account, but cannot restore all my messages.
Please help, as my msgs are quite important..!
il hit the thanks button..!

You can solve this problem by registering your new number again and restoring your old number's chats.
Once you are able to restore your old number's chat by registering on the new number. You can now change the number officially by using the 'change number' feature in the WA settings.
See if this trick works for you.
Good luck.

Hey thanks for the response,
Things arent way the its supposed to...even if im trying to sign up using another account, still the verification is not being done and whern restoring is trying to happen, it force closes or shows a message that it cannot restore msgs in the server
if u know any solution please let me know, its pretty annoying without whatsapp for a week and i need those old messages..its pretty important.
I have done flashing roms a 100 times and never faced this issues, and now it aint going at all..
Ok. copy the backup database some where safe.
Delete your new number account ( from within the WA account settings)
Remove the WA using titanium backup. (you need to be rooted for TB to work)
Reinstall the WA.
See if you are able to register your new number.
Use WhatsApp recovery app to restore you account information, the tool is available free of cost.
If no chats are being restored while reinstalling Whatsapp and you want to restore from a local backup... Try to uninstall and reinstall Whatapp and simply take a local backup of the empty chats and copy the entire filename (Ex: msgstore.db.crypt12) and delete this backup file.. Now paste the backup file from where you want to restore the chats in the Whatsapp databases folder and rename it with the name that was copied from latest backup file (msgstore.db.crypt12).
Clear WhatsApp data (from Settings -> Apps-> WhatsApp-> Clear Data). When you launch Whatsapp now, it will prompt again for the verification details etc. Skip the google drive step and Whatsapp will restore all your chats from your desired local backup. But please make sure you have lot of free space on your device. I cleared about 3gb of data from device memory in order to get this working.
It worked for me when I finally was about to give up after trying for 3 days..

i switched to a new phone. I copied whatsapp folders- Databasse and media to the laptop. The database file has correct name as suggested by whatsapp faq- msgstore.db.crypt and it is version 12 only. But when i install whatsapp it does not take that local backup and asks to check google drive. I don't have backu on google drive. Later i tried new idea- I disconnected internet after verifification of mobile number and yes so it prompted - >backup found- Restore> i tapped restore, but still my chats didn't backedup, the restore processing also did not took lace, i turned on internet after tapping restore. what's the matter? please help. I have some really important stuff. You all are tech enthusiast here. i hope you can help me in this minor problem. I have local Backup, i have mobile, i have aplication. What else is needed??
