Hi all, I need some help please urgently!
Is it possible to view your contacts in a Nandroid online backup that is stored on PC?
Basically I made a backup of my wife's S3 a few weeks back, using 'Nandroid online' updated to JB and lost all her contacts, i thought they where stored on gmail but they are not! and on the sim but again, not! I've tried to restore the backup in various ways using methods from various threads but nothing has worked.
I have found the file and its called contacts2.db-wal but I cant find any program or anything that will open correctly, i can see mobile numbers, names etc but they are all over the place with no number corresponding to a name.
please help, there are contacts in their that she needs and are not stored anywhere else!
Hugh thanks in advance

Hi to everyone.
I am Tommaso, from Tokyo and I need help BIG time.
I backed up all my contacts on my SD card and deleted them from my phone.
When I restored them some "fields" were missing, amongst them "organization" which is vital for sorting: Now I get a long list of numbers (*) and then the remaining contacts sorted by name (correctly). (*) In these contacts the "organization", "Job Position" and others are missing while others as "notes" and numbers are still there.
When I try to send an email, and I try to look up an email address, instead of giving me a list of names, it opens File Expert, with a file address: fe://home and nothing else.
To back up I used Go Contacts (the stock app is disinstalled): export to SD card.
In theory, besides this original backup, I should also have a second back up with Titanium because it is set to backup & syncs with dropbox everything, every night. However, this happened last night and I forgot to freeze the image so I am afraid that tonight's back up might have replaced the correct version.

I would really appreciate someone's help. You can imagine how dramatic it is, so TIA for any help.

Idea
Why not first use the back up to restore your phone first then
Go ahead and check the things inside the back up
Sorry if i am wrong it sounds like you are actually checking the contacts on the back up itself rather than letting the phone restore the back up and then viewing the contents
if i am wrong sorry for the speculation
I would like to ask also try using other Apps to restore Back up and restore
I would ask also what is the file output that you have ?
for your back up ?
Thank you for your post!
I did as you suggest: I physically restored the contacts to the phone.
Ok, I will try to install another app but it is unlikely anything will change: I backed up using Go Contacts so restoring with Go Contacts should have worked.
Go Contacts backup file is "vcf"
Titanium backup file I don't know what it's called or where to find it.

Did you say that your Titanium Backup for the contacts was already overwritten?
If you have set up Titanium to backup your apps/data automatically on a schedule, you should preferably set the backup history to more than 1. This is in case there is an error in one of your apps, and the automatic backup saves the erroneous version, you can restore an older backup from the history. Otherwise, your last backup will also be corrupted.
If your think your Titanium Backup for Contacts is fine, you don't need to look for the contacts file separately. Just go into titanium backup -> clcik on the back/up restore tab on the top -> look for Contacts -> Click once -> Click on Restore.
Repeat the above for Contacts Storage.
Not sure if I addressed your problem.
Thanks for your help!
I tried to restore from titanium back but I could only find GoContatcs. I cannot find "contacts storage". As I said, I have no idea if AND where GoContacts stores the contacts separately so i don't know which file to look for to restore.
I restored GoContacts (app+Data) but 0 contacts were restored.
Thanks for the tip. I am now setting Titanium BU to 2 backups. But I still need help!
Restore ROM Manager Backup
If I restore a previously backed up ROM, will this include contacts?
To restore a previously backed up ROM, do I need to FIRST factory reset the device? Or does the restore simply overwrite my present ROM? Do I need any other precaution/procedure to restore a previous ROM?

I need help for this problem, I installed some mod for the Contacts that looks like Z1 somewhere in the forum, then when I rebooted my tipo dual the Phone icon is gone so I restored the backup apk from the stock phone/contacts after wiping cache and dalvik, I rebooted. After that when I opened the Phone and Contacts there is no contacts left, Is there any way that I can recover those contacts?? when I opened my messaging app the numbers are still there but the contact names are not.... please help me, and also whre might the android store the contacts numbers and names???
does anybody know where android stores contact names and contact numbers?? so I can backup them w/o the use of any apps

Hello,
I was not sure where to post this so here goes. Apologies to mods if this is the wrong forum.
I made a nandroid backup of my phone as well as a few manual backups of the sdcard files. I have a Moto G 2013 xt1032 with Cyanogenmod 13 flashed and no gapps. After a wipe I want to reinstall WeChat. If I used the nandroid backup it would be simple but I don't want to do that for a variety of reasons, namely the fact that I've spent a lot of time reconfiguring my phone and don't want to start over, and that I'm happy to have wiped some of the settings and data I don't want back.
I've got the .com folders where I presume the WeChat data is stored, however I don't know where to manually copy & paste this in order to restore my chat history. I've done a similar thing with another app called Pleco (simply placing the .com files in the correct place) but I'm not sure whether it will work this time. So basically in theory I have all my WeChat data intact but I don't know how to manually restore to be able to access it again within the app. I still have my user account and password so that's not a problem. I realize that this is a very fiddly solution but I don't know what else to do.
If you could help me with this I would be very grateful.
Hi
Recently I decided that my almost rusty galaxy note 2 is running too slow and I installed cyagenomod14. I backed up all my data using Wondershare Tunesgo and installed new OS. Everything went great until i tried to restore my contacts. TunesGo asked me to pay 35$ for getting my info back! I have no memory of warnings that i can not restore data without buying full version (if it were i'd get different program, or hell even just written contacts down and put them back in manually). Tunesgo created .bak file that can be opened with no problem by 7-zip, though i can't extract anything becouse it is password protected. Is there any way i can get through it? I know this password have to be somewhere in the program, I'd guess maybe i could read it from memory after selecting bak file (it then scans and shows how many files are in backup). I don't need this program to restore my data, i just want to get to it.
I'd appreciate any guidence/tips!

Greetings and welcome to assist. Unfortunately we can't help you with password cracking as that would be illegal. Have you checked to see if your contacts are backed up with your google account ? Whatever contacts you add to your google account are automatically restored on any device you sign into. There are also free apps like SMS backup&restore that will back up calls/sms/contacts and restore for free
Good Luck

Hello experts, I need a help to recover lost chat for WhatsApp.
Recently, I have backup the chat using the settings in the application(WhatsApp) but not in the Google Drive.
And I clear the data from the device settings to use the application with another number.
By mistake, I pressed the "RESTORE" option while I am creating the account with another number. But the application didn't restore any single chats from the previous number.
After this, I have cleared the data and creating the account with the previous number that has used in the backup. And it didn't restore any messages.
After all I have reset my device.
I can't find single chat.
And I am still using WhatsApp to connect with the people.
I am using "Galaxy Grand Duos 1" (GTI9082) uprooted,
with Android 4.2.2
I will appreciate anyone who could help me to recover the previous chats with the valid methods.
Thank you.

In this folder I find some files with the names

yes, that one can be used to restore your messages
Your phone will store up to the last 7 days worth of local backup files (Google Drive will only have the most recent one). If you wish to restore a local backup which is not the most recent one, you will need to do the following:
In the file manager app, navigate to sdcard/WhatsApp/Databases. If your data is not stored on the SD card, you may see "internal storage" or "main storage" instead of sdcard.
Rename the backup file you wish to restore from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12. It is possible that an earlier backup may be on an earlier protocol, such as crypt9 or crypt10. Do not change the number of the crypt extension.
Uninstall WhatsApp
Disconnect your phone from your Gmail so whatsapp wont restore online
Install WhatsApp.
Tap Restore when asked.
This will get you back the messages since that date
Relogin to your gmail when done.
Thanks for the methods. Sorry, the files are of the new chats. Not of the things I would like to recover. What I want to recover is older than a week and my device has gone reset.
Please check my post again.

restoring any backup from these will restore also the previous chats in it
lets say you restored Nov 19 2017 backup
every chat before that date will be restored
I mean my device has "hard reset" without making backup i.e. format

Brother I already read the thread
You can use these files to restore
Sir, thank you for your help. It doesn't restore my chats of before the reset. And some of today's messages are also gone. If I could find a valid way, I would be happy.
