I would like to root my gf's Miro, but when I connect it, Flashtool asks me to pick a device from a list, and Miro isn't among them. Will everything be okay if I pick Tipo instead? Or which device should I pick instead?
Now, this wouldn't be a problem if this was my phone, because I'd just pick another phone and hope for the best, but my gf would be beyond furious if I messed something up, god forbid bricked her phone. So would picking Tipo or another model be 100% safe?
By the way, I'd like to downgrade to the previous firmware, root it, then flash back the newer one.
Thank you!

you already installed
Sony companion software to your PC, so that Flashtool can detect your phone.
Enable debugging mode on your phone (Setting>developer options) & enable unknown sources (Setting>security)

Flashtool still doesn't recognize it as a Miro, but it tells me to pick my device from a list, which doesn't feature Miro, only the other Xperias.
My question: Can I safely pick another type of Xperia when Flashtool prompts? If yes, which one should I pick?

Disconnect phone from usb. Open flashtool. Get your fw files in Flashtool. Select the needed fw and click ok. Flashtool should bring up a window how to connect your phone. Oh and you should put your .ftf files in (flashtool folder)/firmwares

That's also the newest, 11.0.A.5.5
I'd like to flash the 11.0.A.2.10 fw, root it with Bin4ry's app, then flash back to 11.0.A.5.5, that way, root will remain, or at least afaik this is a working method. I could root my Sola the same way (downgrade, root, upgrade), so I'm guessing it would work here too.
The only thing I'd like to know if there is any dangmer associated with me telling Flashtool that the Miro is, I don't know, a Tipo or J. Will it mess up the flashing process? I of course have the correct Miro firmwares in ftf-s.

Here it is:
My sons Xperia J is network-locked to 3 Sweden. It has a locked bootloader and it can´t be unlocked. The phone is upgraded to 4.1.2...
The only guide I have found for rooting is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181640
It says that I have to be on rooted 7.5 FW to get 4.1.2 rooted. As I understand I have to downgrade first to get rooted... but how? Can anyone please give me a hint how to do this and to get hold of the FW needed?

You need to download flashtool from here: http://androxyde.github.com/index.html?1363522362000
then 7.5 ics firmware here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2150578 then root it with unlockroot
then install clockworkmod recovery here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003069 install 6.1 for j NOTE there is no CWM for jb with locked bootloader yet. Then follow the tutorial for root jb for locked bootloader.
Allright!
If I´m supposed to use Flashtool, can I use this instead? I still want to use 4.1.2 but with root so I can modify and delete bloatware...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181640
Is it the *.ftf i´m supposed to flash? It´s the prerooted 4.1.2 I really don´t need CWM for my purposes

I really need to be 100% clear of what I´m doing...
I´m in the process to download everything right now.
1: I make sure flashtool works with drivers and so on
2: I install (flash) the 7.5 firmware with flashtool? Just like that?
3: I root the 7.5 firmware with unlocktool
4: I install CWM with the *.batfiles included
5: I follow the link to flash and root instructed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181640
Is this the correct way to do it?

Yeah.Put it in firmwares folder of flashtool for easier locating of the .ftf, then start Flashtool, select the lightning icon on the left, Flashmode should be selected, press OK, find the fw from the left side(assuming you've already put it in the firmwares folder where flashtool is located), and press OK on the bottom there.Wait up, wait for flashtool to say to connect phone in flashmode(Make SURE you have drivers installed first), and wait for it to finish up.It might get stuck on some %, like 84,94, etc don't worry. it will continue.

yep, just make sure you use this version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2003069
the 6.1 for J.root your phone with unlockroot first, reboot it, and then apply this .bat.make sure usb debugging and unknown sources in security are ticked, too.
there are graphics issues, but it works.
Well... something is not right... see screenshot.
It starts but the it states that there´s an error. Any ideas?

also if you have skype, post your ID and we can solve this faster.
make sure you're connecting the phone WHEN IT SAYS TO, not before that.

try doing what i said, make sure you turn off the phone, remove battery, put battery back after 5 seconds, prepare the files for flashing, and plug the phone in flashmode WHEN THE PROGRAM instructs you to.I've found this to be a problem with the tipo too.Although it was fixable by replacing a loader.sin, but im not sure if there's a loader.sin for the J, i wouldnt experiment also with putting one from the tipo.Try what i suggested, plug the phone when flashtool instructs you too.volume down, remember

Works nice... rooted and CWM installed and working.
I do have one question... On the Xperia J, if I want to modify and so on... witch is best? 4.0.4 or 4.1.2?
Flashed rooted 4.1.2 with CWM and it worked... took out battery and started Flashtool. Started phone with vol- and it started to flash. But it´s stuck at 3%...
Ideas?

Hello everyone,
Well, this is my first post, but I've learned alot from this site, and I love it. I wanted to ask a couple questions so I decided to register. My phone is a Sony Xperia E single sim with 11.3.A.2.13 on it. I've had it for 2 months and it turned out to be running very slow. So I decided to try to root it, and I failed... I tried everything, from using SRSroot, to flashing to 11.3.A.0.47 and root it with Framaroot and then flash back to 11.3.A.2.13. Nothing worked, so I decided in a desperate move to unlock the bootloader of my phone, I saw lots of posts, which said that there was no harm in it, and if you were facing a bootloop after the unlocking you could easily flash the phone in Flashmode with Flashtool. So I unlocked my bootloader with the BLU button in Flashtool, and after that I was facing a bootloop... Now, I didn't panick, because I just flashed the 11.3.A.2.13.ftf which I downloaded, and... It didn't work! Flashtool got stuck at ''Flashing data'' at 90 %. I still didn't panick, and I downloaded both 11.3.A.0.47.ftf file and 11.3.A.2.23.ftf file, but the same thing happened. So I used different USB-ports, but Flashtool got stuck again! Now I got a bit scary, but I didn't freak out, I downloaded a relock-bootloader file for the single sim, and flashed it! And it worked! I tried to flash another .ftf file, and again it got stuck... So I used Sony Update Service, which completed downloading, but got stuck at 0% with the installing, after 5 minutes it said: ''install failed, please check if your phone is fully charged''. And I do think it was fully charged, because I charged my phone all night, but there was one option left: repair the phone with PC Companion, and then flash a .ftf file. But my PC companion has no repair buttons! I know it should be there, but it isn't! So here I am, desperate, and willing to do everything to fix my phone! I have 3 questions:
1. Is there anything left to do, which I can try?
2. If I send my phone to Sony, will they know I tried to modify my software? Because flashing the relock-bootloader file did work. And before they fix my phone they have to flash it, and I think that if they do that, there is no way left to see it had the bootloader unlocked, but please correct me if I'm wrong! Isn't it possible to make up a lie, like: I tried to update my phone with PC Companion, and during the installation, it got stuck, and my phone ended up in a bootloop?
3. If Sony does know that my bootloader was unlocked, what will it cost me to let them fix it?
But please, answer question one first, because that's always free
1.Be patience... try flashing again, leave your phone for 10~15 minutes if doesn't work... Try on another computer (friend's) . It should work.
2.as you said that bootloader relock.ftf successfully flashed and root didn't work,I don't think theres any proof left to know that you try to modify your phone's software ,so you can make a lie
3. I didn't know that.
Thanks
Thanks
Hello gagu.436425,
Indeed I left my computer on flashing for almost 2 hours, no result. But as you said(and I read on another site) tomorrow I will try it on my friends gaming PC with Windows 7... I myself have a ****ty laptop from 5 years ago with Windows XP
So I'll try this, and I'm pretty sure this will work, because there was a person with a E having the exact problem on another site, and he fixed it on the pc of his dad. But my phone got stuck in a bootloop a week ago, so I started to panick, and posted on XDA! For the next problem I will keep searching a bit longer!
Thank you for your great tip! And you were the first that responded after 30 views, so I appreciate it very much!
Kind regards,

Hello,
Unfortunately the flashing didn't work, on my friend's PC it also didn't work!!! What can I do? I'm getting real desperate!!!
Which version of flashtool are you using.....?
Its recommended to use latest version...
Try this..
Charge the phone..
Pull out battery
After a few minutes put it back in...DO NOT POWER IT ON OR PRESS POWER BUTTON
Now prepare for flashing and then when it asks to connect..then, only then press vol down and connect..
Hope this works...
And just make sure your biotloader us still locked.,,if it isn't,just flash a different kernel via fastboot
Hello,
Thank you very much for your great replies! First of all: I am using the latest version of Flashtool! 0.9.11.0 is the latest version, or isn't it? If not, I will download the newest version!
mathewsj114: I will try your great tip in the evening, because I don't have much time now! But I will start charging now! So, later on I will post the results, and maybe( if it didn't work) a screenshot of my Flashtool during the flashing. Perhaps that will help you to help me . But first I'm going to try what you said.
Kind regards,

Hello mathewsj114,
Well, I charged my phone fully(something like 5 hours), and I followed your other instructions, but unfortunately... No result. Flashtool still gets stuck at 90%!
But a friend of mine is willing to help me out and I will give him my phone today. He will try to fix it,

If all else fails like flashing stock ROm for Xperia E the only way to get your phone back is to return it to Sony in hopes of them replacing it

Hi guys,
i'm somewhat of a noob when it comes to Android devices, so please excuse my stupid questions.
First some facts about my device:
ROOT: Enabled
BOOTLOADER: Locked and not changeable
ROM: Latest available official release
(hope that helps at least a bit)
#1: Is it possible to bypass the bootloader lock via root? If so, how?
#2: If there is no way to bypass the lock, is it possible to modify the rom anyway? Because i want to add the swapon/swapoff functionality to expand the available ram via a swap partition on my external SD card. (already checked via terminal if swapon/swapoff is available)
Thank you in advance for your help. I hope there's a solution to my problem.

You're right - your phone isn't allowed a bootloader unlock.
Without bootloader unlock, you can't change ROMs, but you can install ICS, which is a bit faster than Jelly Bean, even slightly more than CyanogenMod. In fact, even with an unlocked bootloader, I'm using ICS. Here's how: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2579233
Now, you said you're a noob when it comes to Android, so here's how to flash an FTF:
This process will remove all installed apps, contacts and settings. Any music, stuff on the internal storage (the one for music etc.) or the microSD will be preserved.
0. Make sure you're on Windows 7 or below. For some reason, this doesn't work with Windows 8 or 8.1, so you'll have to get a 7 PC somehow.
1. Download Androxyde's Flashtool here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=920746 (use the unrestrict.li link, it's better)
2. Install it. By default, it is installed to C:\Flashtool. Open this folder, and then the "drivers" one. You'll see a driver setup file. Install the Flashtool and Fastboot drivers (in the list, they're on the bottom).
3. Now go back to the Flashtool folder, and open "firmwares". Put your FTF file here.
4. Open Flashtool. Click the lightning icon. Ensure that Flashmode is selected, and press OK. Choose the C1605 11.1.A.0.68 file, and press Flash.
5. When it tells you to, turn off your phone. Plug in the USB cable into your computer. Hold volume down (do not hold the power button), and (point of no return now) plug the phone into the USB cable connected to your phone. The notification light will glow green, and hopefully everything will start flashing. When the Flashtool window tells you to disconnect your phone and turn it on, do so. Set it up, and you're on ICS!
If you want to go back to Jelly Bean, download this FTF: https://www.mediafire.com/?3fmmkbmlqtjd6cy and put it into the "firmwares" folder. Now follow the guide step 4 onward, but select "11.3.A.2.23" for Jelly Bean.
Whew, long post.
So, in principle i downgrade the device to ics with an unlocked bootloader and then can flash a custom rom that is jb based, with all features i need to expand the ram?

No, ICS won't enable you to unlock your bootloader OR install CWM OR install a custom ROM. ICS is faster than any other custom ROM (other than XboosT, which is basically ICS on steroids), so if you can't have custom ROMs, the next best thing is ICS.
Another noob's question:
I installed Xposed a few days ago on my c1505 (stock firmware, locked bl). It worked perfectly. But i've read from another post that if i remove it my phone won't boot. So is there any way to remove it without breaking my device?? Waiting for answers.

But UltraGamerHD is still using his phone (in fact, he's making CM11...), right?
Right now, I uninstalled Xposed, rebooted, installed Xposed, rebooted. Nothing called a brick (although I did lose a cool Xposed mod for a reboot). Well, whatever. Uninstalling doesn't brick.
In fact, the problem in the topic is either:
1. The phone hard-bricking, which is not related to Xposed at all.
OR
2. The phone's battery being discharged to 0%, to the point where the phone cannot turn itself on and start charging.

1. I'm a teen. So, yeah, single.
2. My phone's single too, but it's not a teen.
3. UltraGamerHD has been making CM11 (KitKat) for our phones, he's even shown an image - too bad it's been deleted now - but I think he's still (a bit) active here, so...
4. @UltraGamerHD? Your phone's working?

1. I went to Sony cause I didn't know what the issue was - they fixed it by using a Z1 or Z Ultra charger to charge it to 9%, powered it off, and let me charge the rest at home.
2. I can't say what I'm making... it's a closely guarded secret. Nope, no Facebook. I had it, but I deleted it.
3. No idea, sorry.

I did brick it once, I went to the Orange UK store in my local town and he said he used software similar to PC Companion.
Go to phoneunlockserver.com and unlock your bootloader even if it says no for £10 GBP --> Use Google Currency to Convert Price.
Since it is kind of on topic.
@UltraGamerHD: Any status of CM11 for Xperia E?
Bug list please? and why did the thread get deleted? :/ :|
Hello there!
Many of you requested a video on how to root the Xperia M2 (and M2 Aqua), with a step by step procedure, so here it is!
LINK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f9x7AY7o2gU
All the tools needed are in the video description, and I will try to answer all your questions both in the Youtube comments or here in this post.
Happy Easter and enjoy root!
(and sorry for my english )
Nice tutorial but Im having a little problem.
Today I was trying to root my M2 Aqua (D2403) with your old tutorial and now I tried with this again.
So, the problem is that when I flash JB kernel the phone turn on normally, not in bootloop then root xperia toolkit doesnt work.
Also tried with only ftf kernel of another thread and turned on in bootloop but flashtool and root xperia tool kit doesnt recognize the phone, maybe drivers?
I had problem installing the drivers on Windows 8.1 but worked in flashmode.
Thanks for tutorial and help.
Good tutorial! I think this will help people who have problems rooting their phone

First, you installed the drivers with driver signature check turned off right? (From advanced reboot in windows..)
I think you might try as I did in the video, I mean, when preparing the phone, connect yours (while still in KK, still haven't flashed the JB kernel) and then open flashtools and check if you have any warning of adb. If so, hit REMEMBER (very important STEP) and then hit OK. This is because while in JB there's no screen so you cannot accept that petition. That's the reason.
After done that, try with THIS kernel. I know some people used it and it worked. Flash it, boot your device, wait for about 5 minutes, connect your phone and open the RootXperiaToolkit. Let's see if it works now

Yes, I installed with signature check off. I used drivers from Flashtools 1.5
Also checked remember adb warning and I guess its weird, when I flashed using full rom the phone turn on and initiliaze normally as if I had not flashed the old kernel.
The kernel I told get bootloop is that you posted now.
I did exactly as on video but when phone is in bootloop the Root Xperia Toolkit doesnt recognize it and Flashtools(opened just to check) say the drivers arent installed.
I will try in another OS, thanks. :good:
