[Q] Flashtool doesn't recognize my Miro - Sony Xperia Miro, Tipo (Dual), J, E

I would like to root my gf's Miro, but when I connect it, Flashtool asks me to pick a device from a list, and Miro isn't among them. Will everything be okay if I pick Tipo instead? Or which device should I pick instead?
Now, this wouldn't be a problem if this was my phone, because I'd just pick another phone and hope for the best, but my gf would be beyond furious if I messed something up, god forbid bricked her phone. So would picking Tipo or another model be 100% safe?
By the way, I'd like to downgrade to the previous firmware, root it, then flash back the newer one.
Thank you!

you already installed
Sony companion software to your PC, so that Flashtool can detect your phone.
Enable debugging mode on your phone (Setting>developer options) & enable unknown sources (Setting>security)

Flashtool still doesn't recognize it as a Miro, but it tells me to pick my device from a list, which doesn't feature Miro, only the other Xperias.
My question: Can I safely pick another type of Xperia when Flashtool prompts? If yes, which one should I pick?

Disconnect phone from usb. Open flashtool. Get your fw files in Flashtool. Select the needed fw and click ok. Flashtool should bring up a window how to connect your phone. Oh and you should put your .ftf files in (flashtool folder)/firmwares

That's also the newest, 11.0.A.5.5
I'd like to flash the 11.0.A.2.10 fw, root it with Bin4ry's app, then flash back to 11.0.A.5.5, that way, root will remain, or at least afaik this is a working method. I could root my Sola the same way (downgrade, root, upgrade), so I'm guessing it would work here too.
The only thing I'd like to know if there is any dangmer associated with me telling Flashtool that the Miro is, I don't know, a Tipo or J. Will it mess up the flashing process? I of course have the correct Miro firmwares in ftf-s.

[Q] Hardbricked Xperia J

Hi All,
first I have JB in XJ, because of CM10 need to flash from ICS to make GSM work then I reflash it to ICS. After successful ICS flash, I flash it with CWM from here and flash it again with CM10 ver 220.
All flash are successful, no bootloop or any FC.
But I got hardbrick after installing swapper 2. Base on ItachiLinux info's, many hardbrick happen after swapon. I don't know if Xperia 2011-2012 aren't support swapon. I've try to charge it in long time, but not success, Is there any solution to fix this devices?
Send the phone to the sony center...otherwise, i dont know..

Download "Sony Update Service" software. And follow all the instructions to reset your phone software to stock Jellybean.
All your contacts and applications would be gone, but this method has always helped me in reviving my dead/bricked phone.
Hit thanks if I helped!
No, update service will not work with unlocked bootloader.

Thanks for the reply, but my laptops could not detect phone at all. Even in fastboot mode.
Yes, I think I should send it to SC. But, my question, is swap partition really dangerous in Xperia? Because I never found this problem when I use galaxy 5.
You should try using another computer/reinstalling drivers of Xperia J usually it will detect it again.

my laptops run both Windows and Linux, and both can't detect XJ. But I will try reinstall drivers in Windows.
Sometimes, it need adb drivers installed properly before showing the other drivers for you to install. Thats how I finally get update service to detect my tipo.

[Q] Need help with C2104 and C2105 - How to upgrade? [SONY XPERIA L]

Hello there,
This is my first post on this forum, and I'm kinda new.
I've rooted many of my previous devices including XPERIA U, X10 Mini Pro, Samsung Galaxy S Duos, Galaxy Grand Duos etc. and I've never had any problem. But XPERIA L has been creating troubles for me, so I had to signup in the forum and ask few questions.
What is the difference b/w C2104 and C2105?
I understand C2105 is newer, and better... but how do I update to this firmware?? Can I upgrade via PC Companion or do I have to use FlashTool? Can someone give me a link to a tutorial that could help me or written text step by step?
I'm unable to root my XPERIA L on C2104. I've tried each and every method, none of them works. I even tried Framaroot, NO LUCK. How do I root it? Do I have to upgrade to C2105 firmware version in order to upgrade?
Any help would be kind
I'm new so I'd love to clear my doubts - sorry for troubling ya'll.

C2104 and C2105 ftf are both same, just basebands are different. If you flash a C2105 ftf without excluding basebands then you will permanently brick your radios and hence lose network. For rooting install proper drivers like adb, Sony Companion does that and if you fail use Flash tool for drivers, also if you are using Windows 8 then use Google to find out how to install drivers.

Thank you for replying and I extremely apologize for bumping in the thread after a long time, I actually was very busy b/w these days. What I simply want is to root my XPERIA device. It seems that Flashtool will help me out.. and yeah, about drivers, they're installed in my computer already; I'm using a Windows 7 PC.
Can anyone kindly provide me the link to download the latest version of Flashtool? The official website is down, I guess - it's not opening for me.
I'll try root my C2104 with Flashtool and respond you guys.

I have updated my phone to the latest version, and I haven't unlocked my bootloader.
Can I still root my XPERIA L using DooMLoRD's rooting kit v17?
Motochopper for version 2.17 Far as I know it only work motochopper.
@OP
just yesterday I was in the same boat as you are .
I'm successfully running vengeance + Clean n Tweaked now.
Anyway, I'll try to tell you a few things that I did not know and helped me a lot.
* Install Fastboot and ADB from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42407269
[I did not use that cuz I have the whole Android SDK]
* Remember these keys:
-- While plugging in phone to the PC =
Vol up = FastBoot Mode
Vol down = Flash Mode
-- After you have CWM installed
When you start the phone and Sony logo starts showing keep pressing volume down and you will get into CWM Recovery
* Use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2307983 to root.
It definitely works. Keep doing the partial root part until SuperSU loads the binary successfully. Remove SuperSU and restart between each try.
* Get Flash Tool from http://www.flashtool.net/ and not the Official Sony Flash Tool
* If you have C2104 use C2104 stuff ONLY and NOTHING ELSE.
* The firmware update is very huge so I downloaded it from https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B16rNZZxP33EdXhfNml1ZjBFNXc/edit and used the Flashtool to flash it
What else do you want to know? I'll help as much as I can.
Well what I want to know is whether I can root it with DoomLord's rooting kit v17 or not.
Here's a summary of my device:-
I have C2104 with the latest software / system updated via PC Companion.
I tried rooting using Motochopper, which failed.
I tried framaroot, which failed again.
I really need to root my device.

I'm sorry but I don't remember if I tried DoomLord's. Even if I did I don't think It worked for me.
I didn't try framaroot cuz according to the thread it's for the older firmware. Might work for the newer one too but I didn't risk it.
Since you have the firmware now just keep trying MotoChopper via the thread I have given you the link to. It will work.
Also, post a log/screenshot of what you get when you run it in your PC.
Sure buddy,
Will give you in few 1-4 hours.
Thank you for your assistance.
No luck yet again..
I Installed after following the rooting steps using XPERIA_L_ROOT, and then installed SuperSU, which says "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!".
I guess that says to "UNLOCK BOOTLOADER".
Any possible way to root WITHOUT actually unlocking bootloader?

[Q] Xperia J won't turn on.

Hi..yesterday i try to install Kernel Vengeance_JLO_STOCK_JB to my Xperia J with flashtool.(to set 1.3 GHz) After installation i've try to turn on my phone, but nothing. I can't turn on my Xperia J. When I press the on button,it's only vibrate a bit then nothing happen.
Option 1: flash a stock .ftf firmware for your device using the allmighty Flashtool. Pick one of these firmwares: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2385526
Flash the firmware using this tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240614.
Note: the drivers of the J can't be found in the Flashtool drivers. But don't worry, they are allready installed(assuming you have connected your phone at least one time to your computer before the brick).
Option 2: use Sony Update Service. http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/tools/update-service/.
Use Flashtool first, because you may get your data back. If it doesn't work, use Sony Update Service. Using the Update Service, you will probably lose all of your saved data.
Success!

You're absolutely right! I always assume when I read: ''phone doesn't work'', it's a soft-brick. But it's indeed a kernel problem. Sorry, OP! You need to flash a stock kernel!
P.S. Maybe I schould make a general thread of what to do with bricks/wrong kernels etc. Just a post with all possible scenarios?

Soft bricked Tipo

Hi there,
1. I am fed up of my Tipo's lagging touch (responding after half an hour, miscaliberation). I update the firmware using Sony companion and tried to install one of the Jelly Bean roms on the stock ICS using CMW. It some how soft bricked my phone. Can any one tell the reason?
2. With lot of effort I installed the stock ST21a 11.0.A.4.22 Sony Generic kernel (using Flashtool). It is same laggy and miscaliberating. Did I not reformat, similar to PC? shouldn't it be fresh and new ?
3. I am not trying to install JB rom. What is the correct way to install? Should I worry about any seperate parts like Kernel?
4. To install JB rom (Paranoid Android) I tried to root the device, but the flash tool says "no root exploit for this version". If i cant root. I cant install CMW. I cant install frest rom. Is there any other way to install ROM?
I am stuck in the above points after my research, and will appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance

Yeah, but those two have the same effect. Repairing with PC Companion is exactly the same as flashing a .ftf. And if that didn't work, PC Companion won't.
