I tried installing the apk from the m7, but it didn't work. I also really liked the stock browser.

One of my HUGE problems with this phone. Stock browser on my DNA was awesome. Chrome sucks.
Hello...no HOME button!?!? Also, I may be different..but my phone is my phone...I don't need all my bookmarks pushing to every computer I ever log into Chrome on..I hate that.
Also...it's thoroughly annoying in order to alphabetize my bookmarks I have to do it from Chrome on a desktop or laptop...
HTC stock browser MUCH better in my opinion.
Once this thing is rooted and S-OFF I imagine we can install the browser.apk from the M7

I would think and can almost say i'm sure that the intl. version of the M8 has the stock browser. It's the damn US carrier versions that don't, makes sense right kind of like leaving out the htc flashlight app too and all intl versions have this! Maybe when we get the software update with power save modes it will come or we're SOL until root and custom roms come out. Read earlier that it IS on these devices but carrier hides them and without permissions we cannot UNhide them.

Somebody needs to put deeznuts in Verizons mouth! I'm getting tired of their crap but I just can't give up my unlimited yet...

It comes with chrome, which awesomely syncs all your bookmarks.
But you can download Opera, Dolphin etc. Plenty of choice.
Out of all those choices, why would you want the HTC one? Its the first thing I replace when getting a new phone.

I really like the stock htc browser also. Anyone know if it will be possible to load it without having root?

I honestly found the stock browser to be far superior than any other browser available.

I'm sure we can just use the system dump from att/tmobile/sprint (if they have one) to pull the apk
EDIT: The browser is in the Sprint HTC one m8 dump, but I can't install it. It needs to be pushed to system

Lol..yeah the first thing I love is to have my bookmarks on my phone synced to any thing I ever log into...awful idea lol
The fact that I can only alphabetize my bookmarks by logging into a desktop or laptop..epic browser fail
No home page button..epic fail..
Opera Firefox and whatever else suck worse than Chrome.
I'm dealing with it..but the Htc browser is far superior

I too like the stock browser and was pissed when I realized it wasn't there. Chrome sucks. Been trying different browsers and someone recommended Boat browser. That's what I've been using and it seems pretty good so far.

I guess we'll have to wait until jcase publishes his root method so we have access to the system folder.

I try to push the browser to system/priv-app but when I reboot it don't show probably because the root has to activate every boot

After the reboot and root kicks in about a minute later, does the Internet app then show up and work? This is my concern with this root method, it is a form of "rooting" but with the reboot feature what root options/apps/tweaks will actually stick and work?

Yes I read up in the Root thread by jcase, Thanks

Its also not going to work because of conflicting provider error. just grab one from a vzw rom, sign it then adb install it . it will show you the error

I initially gave up and just decided to settle with using Chrome.. until it randomly wouldn't open mobile versions of pages, crashed, and wouldn't let me log in to pretty much anything. I then gave up and started using Firefox.. I do still like the stock browser better, but seeing as how I don't have it, Firefox is doing the job pretty well for the time being.

Still hoping someone can make this apk work.I know this is a dumb question but what prevents this apk from being able to be installed like any of the play store browsers. Is there a way to modify it to be installable.

Just a guess (I'm not a dev) but I'd say that it's a system app and we can't write to /system as of yet.

Sweet, thanks. Do you know why I would keep getting errors when trying to backup certain applications?
Great - works a treat!
Thanks
Works GREAT on my Kindle Fire.
Thanks for uploading this.
The new version of Facebook has been working great. I don't have the issues with the force closing anymore.
Work's great and looks much better than the old version.
came here just to find this and here it is.
thanks
Works just great. However it's kinda annoying to have two facebook applications(although the original one is just a link).
How do I remove the original FB app? (I'm rooted)
Installing the new one didn't replace the old one.

Using the application Root Explorer navigate to /system/app/ folder. Then tap the Mount R/W button on the top. Long press on the Facebook.apk and then choose delete.
There should only be one Facebook file in here and that is the one that came with the device. If there is more that one delete the one which file size is smaller.

Thanks. Since I already have Root explorer installed I tried your method & it worked like a charm.
I deleted from system/app but still its shown on the menu
Then I hide the old FB icon and FB1.8 is working fine
Thanks for app!
you have to reboot after deleting it Also, i just renamed it to Facebook.apk.bak, just in case.
Darn...
When ever I dowload the APK it just tells me that it cannot open the file... Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Got it to work, I just used opera mini instead of amazon's browser. Those treacherous bastards... lol
For some reason with amazon's silk browser, it'll download but when you try and open it, it won't let you.
Use a different browser if you are having the same problem as me.

That's good that you got it to work. Another good alternative browser to try would be Dolphin. Opera Mini messes with the web pages too much for my liking. Good if you don't have much bandwidth though.

I tried dolphin, not sure I liked it. For some reason I was unable to zoom in to pages. So I deleted it and switched to opera mini. I did like the look of dolphin a heck of a lot more.

Question regarding Youtube links

Quick question.
When you click a link regardless of mobile or non mobile version YouTube links, do you go into the browser or into the YouTube app on your One X? I can't seem to get the darn thing to open in YouTube, at all..
Anyone else?
Random link for testing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf_hdFSnOEI&feature=related
It goes straight to the browser. Any way to change it to the YouTube app instead?

Try going into settings app youtube and clear defults. Then click on a link and it should give you a option to use the youtube app and make it the defult.

Doesn't work, I even uninstalled YouTube and re-installed it. I wonder if it has anything to do with "app selections" within settings. Cant change anything there either.
+1
I may be spoiled from iPhone but I would much rather it open the youtube app instead of the browser.
Also doesn't open other http links in apps. Like Foursquare or Market.
Is this a thing with all Sense ROMs?
edit: It looks like it's Sense 4.0

If links are opening in the Browser by default, you don't want to clear the YouTube defaults, you want to clear the "Internet" defaults. Try that folks. My youtube links (at least so far) always ask me what to open them in, and I don't have a problem going into the youtube app with them.
Having same issue. Must be this phone specific. Because I didn't have this problem with my old HTC Inspire

This might mean it's an AT&T ROM issue. Which relieves me that it is a bug and not a "feature" of sense 4.
Also my "internet" has no defaults and even clearing Chrome defaults me back to Chrome when I use Chrome to Phone to send a YT link.
edit: It seems to go through an "HTCLinkifyDispatcher", is there a difference between these in craig0r's rom and ours?

When I go to Settings -> Apps -> All, I don't even see this app. So yeah, I'm guessing there's a glaring difference! Weird, more crap AT&T is imposing, perhaps?

Thanks, that would have been a aggravated waist of time (for the attempt to fix the link issue at least)
I tried freezing htclinky whatever its called with TiBu and links in emails and in forum runner refused to open.
Same, even Chrome to Phone doesn't work.
I fixed this by disabling the stock browser in TiBU, but you will need to root your device. Links open in Chrome and YouTube apps now.

Internet Browser Crash

Is anyone having trouble with the regular internet browser? At least once a day when I try to open a bookmark I get a black screen and have to go out to the home screen and force close the app. I have a rooted phone but I don't think it has anything to do with it as I haven't flashed anything onto my phone or done anything special. I also clear my cache on a regular basis. Any advice would be appreciated!

[Q] Adobe Flash Replacement

Hi guys,
I had heard of it, but never really experienced it. The main feature I could annoy Apple fans with is now gone. Flash is not availaible for Android anymore.
I just switched to ICS and realised it's not avalaible to my chrome browser.
I searched the web to try to find something to replace it, but haven't anything yet.
I understand that HTML5 will eventually replace flash, but what about existing flash application? There's no way to run them anymore except switching to an older browser? There must be another workaround. what you guys use to run existing flash application?
Can't believe i'm at the same level then apple fans now
P.S. If there was already some threads about that, sorry to repost. This forum is so huge, can't see everything.
Chrome will NOT and ever support flash. However other browsers (dolphin or FireFox) still do and getting flash is as easy as downloading an apk and installing it

I confirm it, after installing the apk of flash there's no troubles, excpet for Chrome as it is not supporting flash. I personally use Firefox for example.

Lollipop Browser?

What browser is everyone using after the Lollipop upgrade? I was on Dolphin, but it's very laggy and no longer supports flash. Switched to Naked browser which is much smoother, but still no flash. Trying Puffin now, good flash, but a little laggy. Main reason for flash is almost no Facebook video will play without flash. Frustrating to have to turn on my PC to watch video.
Any other browser's any good?

If you get webpages that won't load after using adaway, that you feel shouldn't be blocked, you can add it to your whitelist.

CM Browser. I had some issues with it on KK but it seems they fixed it now. It's fast, has a nice UI, a fullscreen mode, a home button and an exit button. That's pretty much everything I want/need.
I actively use adaway. It seems to block ads in apps and in Firefox and cm browser but not chrome.
Now I use lighting browser but I prefer aosp browser but it doesn't work on lollipop.
Try javelin. It blocks ads natively and has material aspects

There's a "get flash" guide thread in these n5 forums. Forget if its general or q&a.
I'm using Firefox. Is it just me or its actually slow compared to Chrome. It won't open links that readily load on Chrome.
I was a Firefox guy for the longest time, synced between my laptop, tablet and phone. But I've had it, I always put up with the lack of speed but it's just so frustrating. I can't believe reviews of Firefox when they call it fast.
I switched everything over to Chrome. The address bar isn't nearly as good as predicting what website you want compared to Firefox but it's much, much faster and I welcome that.

There's only one flash apk. Flash is unsupported on android. There will never be a new version again. We must always try to modify the ICS version.
Who knows if it will work on lollipop. I dont even think dolphin works on lollipop. Anyway, there is one apk and one guide only. If you know about it already. Then you know as much as everyone else

if you use data compression, adaway will not work. data compression makes chrome go through a different web server, thus, adaway does not block ads. opt out of compression in chrome and ads will be blocked.
