Internet Browser Crash - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Is anyone having trouble with the regular internet browser? At least once a day when I try to open a bookmark I get a black screen and have to go out to the home screen and force close the app. I have a rooted phone but I don't think it has anything to do with it as I haven't flashed anything onto my phone or done anything special. I also clear my cache on a regular basis. Any advice would be appreciated!

I use chrome as my browser.

Agreed.
Stock browser is a pathetic clone of AOSP. It looks almost the same, but runs like poo.

Google Chrome to Phone

Do you use Google Chrome to Phone. I just read a review about it. Chrome to Phone isn’t a new product — I’ve been using it since May. Chrome to Phone is a simple combination of a Chrome extension and Android application that allows you to click one button in your browser, and sync what you were viewing right to your Android phone to be check out at a later time.
Reading a news article but need to head out the door to drive to work? Simply click the Chrome to Phone button on your Chrome browser, launch the Chrome to Phone application on your Android device at work, and it immediately takes you to the webpage you were viewing at home so you can pick up right where you left off. I use this feature all the time, and assume many of you would as well.
Google Chrome to Phone lets you easily share links, maps, and currently selected phone numbers and text between your computer running Chrome and your phone.
Very handy! When using your computer’s browser, right-click on an image/link & send that link/image to phone. I used it just now to send an .mp3 link of a 101Mb DJ set to my phone – very simple! Very little hassle…

I think you're asking if it works or if people use it.. Not sure.. But I do, and it works beautifully. I just don't like chrome's incompatibility with xda

If you are having problems with chrome in xda, first try running the browser in porn mode with your extensions off to make sure it's not one of them...
I had a world of troubles using adblock with some sites in chrome, and in the end decided i'd rather deal with ads then try to sort out exceptions for each of those sites.
I use Fox To Phone (Firefox version of Chrome To Phone) and it works beautifully.

browser closes w/o warning

Anyone else have problem with browsers closing without any error message? I think ot hapens to on stock rom. I am on zeus now and I tried different browsers but they all have same issues. Its not frequently but happens when u used it alot or open multiple tabs. Sucks when it closes and everything you had on tje browser closed and u gotta start all over.
Its prolly using too much ram so it is killed by the android system. Use a non stock browser along with a task killer like Advanced Task Killer and use the task killer to kill anything using up ur ram once in a while. It helps speed things up
Froggys go ribbet

I tried installing the apk from the m7, but it didn't work. I also really liked the stock browser.

One of my HUGE problems with this phone. Stock browser on my DNA was awesome. Chrome sucks.
Hello...no HOME button!?!? Also, I may be different..but my phone is my phone...I don't need all my bookmarks pushing to every computer I ever log into Chrome on..I hate that.
Also...it's thoroughly annoying in order to alphabetize my bookmarks I have to do it from Chrome on a desktop or laptop...
HTC stock browser MUCH better in my opinion.
Once this thing is rooted and S-OFF I imagine we can install the browser.apk from the M7

I would think and can almost say i'm sure that the intl. version of the M8 has the stock browser. It's the damn US carrier versions that don't, makes sense right kind of like leaving out the htc flashlight app too and all intl versions have this! Maybe when we get the software update with power save modes it will come or we're SOL until root and custom roms come out. Read earlier that it IS on these devices but carrier hides them and without permissions we cannot UNhide them.

It comes with chrome, which awesomely syncs all your bookmarks.
But you can download Opera, Dolphin etc. Plenty of choice.
Out of all those choices, why would you want the HTC one? Its the first thing I replace when getting a new phone.
I really like the stock htc browser also. Anyone know if it will be possible to load it without having root?

I honestly found the stock browser to be far superior than any other browser available.
I'm sure we can just use the system dump from att/tmobile/sprint (if they have one) to pull the apk
EDIT: The browser is in the Sprint HTC one m8 dump, but I can't install it. It needs to be pushed to system

Lol..yeah the first thing I love is to have my bookmarks on my phone synced to any thing I ever log into...awful idea lol
The fact that I can only alphabetize my bookmarks by logging into a desktop or laptop..epic browser fail
No home page button..epic fail..
Opera Firefox and whatever else suck worse than Chrome.
I'm dealing with it..but the Htc browser is far superior
I too like the stock browser and was pissed when I realized it wasn't there. Chrome sucks. Been trying different browsers and someone recommended Boat browser. That's what I've been using and it seems pretty good so far.
I guess we'll have to wait until jcase publishes his root method so we have access to the system folder.
I try to push the browser to system/priv-app but when I reboot it don't show probably because the root has to activate every boot

After the reboot and root kicks in about a minute later, does the Internet app then show up and work? This is my concern with this root method, it is a form of "rooting" but with the reboot feature what root options/apps/tweaks will actually stick and work?

Yes I read up in the Root thread by jcase, Thanks
Its also not going to work because of conflicting provider error. just grab one from a vzw rom, sign it then adb install it . it will show you the error
I initially gave up and just decided to settle with using Chrome.. until it randomly wouldn't open mobile versions of pages, crashed, and wouldn't let me log in to pretty much anything. I then gave up and started using Firefox.. I do still like the stock browser better, but seeing as how I don't have it, Firefox is doing the job pretty well for the time being.
Still hoping someone can make this apk work.I know this is a dumb question but what prevents this apk from being able to be installed like any of the play store browsers. Is there a way to modify it to be installable.

Just a guess (I'm not a dev) but I'd say that it's a system app and we can't write to /system as of yet.

Corrupted downloads through Google Chrome

Every time I want to download a .pptx file through Google Chrome it says file download completed, but when I try to open it through quickoffice, it says file corrupted. If I download the file through dolphin browser it works fine. Anyone else having this problem? Also, on a side note, anyone else finding the new download screen with the loading bar that takes up the whole screen on Chrome unbelievably annoying? Thanks in advance!

Yeah Chrome is exceptionally well at downloading corrupted files and has been for a while. Especially with anything android related. I generally use Opera Classic browser for downloads, Dolphin browser is pretty good too.

And specific fixed that you know of? I'd rather not have to completely switch browsers. In fact, just last month, Chrome was working fine for me. Ever since the update that made the download screen into the loading bar

Unfortunately no I don't know of a fix, next update hopefully. I've had issues using Chrome for downloads only quite a few times. Like any time that I've downloaded any ROM with Chrome it's corrupted. I definitely prefer Chrome as well and still use it daily. I really only use Opera Classic for downloads. If you download a lot you could check out Opera Mini, it's a lite weight version of classic.

Lollipop Browser?

What browser is everyone using after the Lollipop upgrade? I was on Dolphin, but it's very laggy and no longer supports flash. Switched to Naked browser which is much smoother, but still no flash. Trying Puffin now, good flash, but a little laggy. Main reason for flash is almost no Facebook video will play without flash. Frustrating to have to turn on my PC to watch video.
Any other browser's any good?

If you get webpages that won't load after using adaway, that you feel shouldn't be blocked, you can add it to your whitelist.
Atlas
CM Browser. I had some issues with it on KK but it seems they fixed it now. It's fast, has a nice UI, a fullscreen mode, a home button and an exit button. That's pretty much everything I want/need.
I actively use adaway. It seems to block ads in apps and in Firefox and cm browser but not chrome.
Now I use lighting browser but I prefer aosp browser but it doesn't work on lollipop.
Try javelin. It blocks ads natively and has material aspects

There's a "get flash" guide thread in these n5 forums. Forget if its general or q&a.
I'm using Firefox. Is it just me or its actually slow compared to Chrome. It won't open links that readily load on Chrome.
I was a Firefox guy for the longest time, synced between my laptop, tablet and phone. But I've had it, I always put up with the lack of speed but it's just so frustrating. I can't believe reviews of Firefox when they call it fast.
I switched everything over to Chrome. The address bar isn't nearly as good as predicting what website you want compared to Firefox but it's much, much faster and I welcome that.

There's only one flash apk. Flash is unsupported on android. There will never be a new version again. We must always try to modify the ICS version.
Who knows if it will work on lollipop. I dont even think dolphin works on lollipop. Anyway, there is one apk and one guide only. If you know about it already. Then you know as much as everyone else

if you use data compression, adaway will not work. data compression makes chrome go through a different web server, thus, adaway does not block ads. opt out of compression in chrome and ads will be blocked.
