how dirty does the white nexus 5 gets? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys!
Currently I have the nexus 4 which is amazing but I'm going to buy the new nexus 5
in a few days.
I won't take the red because I'm a man.
My dilemma is between the black and the white nexus 5.
The truth is I like more the white nexus 5 looks.
It's way more sexy in my opinion.
The issue is,
I don't want to have a phone which all the time I'd be concerned where I put it
and if the surface is clean enough.
It's a phone!
I don't want to concern about it that much.
I'd really like to hear some feedback from white nexus 5 owners ..
please be real!
Does it gets dirty often if even?
Would you take the black if you could choose all over again?
Waiting for your feedback
all the best!
Viva la nexus

My nexus 5 gets really dirty...always trying to hump the dog

That's only my opinion ...

All 3 get as dirty. If you put the white one in mud and the black one in mud, they both get the same amount if bacteria and germs.
The white one may LOOK dirtier, but how can we quantify that?

Not sure they get the same dirt, also if they do it's much more visible on the white.
From what I understand,
The black is some what rubbery plastic and the white is solid plastic.
They have their slight changes like the glossy baseless on the white nexus.
My concern is if the white will look dirty and yellowish even.

Which one you have mate?

I have the white Nexus 5 and i put a case on when i'm at work but when i'm not i take it right off. To answer your question the back doesn't really get dirty if it does i give it a quick wipe with windex and all is good.

My white n5 has been in a diztronic case since I got it (on launch) & if I remove the case, it still looks brand new. I use it daily, & I have no issues. Not sure what you plan to do with your phone, but it should be fine.

Thanks for the answer.
If I'm buying the white I intend the white to show,
Currently I have the nexus 4 with official LG Bumper Case,
Meaning the back is shown.
So ... Dunno yet if i'll get a case or not for the nexus 5
but ... if I will it will probably bumper case style so the back is shown.

Got ya. Maybe get a white dbrand skin & pit it over the white back, that way white still shows & if it get dirty, then it's just the skin? I had the white galaxy nexus & the white nexus4, but those materials you could obviously wipe off dirt. This white is different, so I get the concern.

More feedback please.

If you go caseless get the black for sure. I got white so it would ship sooner and while it looks great the glossy edges are on the slippery side and not as functional as the true soft touch coating only found on the black.
If it's going in a case white works and you can even show off the back a bit. If I had known the white was missing the soft touch coating I might've waited the extra week. As it stands I use a $2 quicksand case solely for the added grip.
Dirt does not seem to be an issue either way.

true m8 gets dirty but its kinda easy to clean, actually the one phone that stays clean and purely easy to clean it is the lumia 1020

I've had my white nexus since launch day. I have a tpu case on it but there is not a scratch on it or a sign of wear and tear. I did have to buy a new case because the original teal one was turning this funky color from my nasty hands. And I would assume it would've translated to the actual phone if I did not have a case. Of course if I did not have a case my phone would be in pieces 7x over.
PS. The red nexus is sweet I wish I had one.

I would of liked the black. Went from the 4 but I buy unlocked phones second hand this was unused but white. It's smooth which is trouble and needs to be in a case but it doesn't mark like I expected when out of one.

[Q] HTC advertised this phone as not needing a case.. Well?

They advertised this phone as not needing a case.. Well? I'm dying for a beautiful phone that i dont have to cover up and make bulky with a case. Mine will be here Monday..Till then, what do you guys think? Will you be using a case or not?
I thought they only advertised the HTC One S as not needing a case. And specifically, only the ceramic coated version of the HTC One S, not the blue version sold by T-Mobile here in the states.

Lies. All lies. It needs a case. Wear makes the matte finish come off and leaves shiny spots in its place. It's a lot more noticable on grey.

Its the same color all the way through, its just that the finish on top of the polycarbonate can wear off and make it shiny from what I've read.

I got the OtterBox commuter case.
yes it takes away from the pretty pretty white. but I spend months at a time in St. Kitts. If my phone is to have any chance of survival is needs a case and I was pressed for time last week (I left for st. kitts today) so I had to buy the case at the Cor store. I wanted to get the Ballistic SG case as I've had nothing but success with those and that too at 10 dollars cheaper but then I realized it might not fit right because the ATT One X is slightly taller than the HTC One X
:x
all in all the otterbox is really good and with the gel + plastic case design it seems like it'll survive a drop. Those blue and orange (figures those'd be the colors) Shell Cases they're selling don't seem like they'd do jack and at 30 bucks are possibly the biggest rip off at the store. (the store was also shocked when I showed up on thursday with the phone asking for a case, it was a special sort of envy lol)
oh and for those curious, I ended up getting the phone free of charge (true to form i'm a customer 15+years) but if you call 611 and ask politely they'll almost always give you some sort of discount on a non apple phone. it's always worth a shot
I cant wait for the day when no cases are needed. I guess i'll get one of those thin hard plastic barely there cases. Like the one below but white. they dont protect the screen from a direct hit but you normally need something pretty bulky for that. And remember keep your phone cases clean. Seen a show that said phone cases have more germs than anything we touch on a daily basis.. Everything we touch gets transfered to our phone cases. I have a white barely there case for my sensation that i throw in a bowl of bleach every few weeks for an hour or so. Cleans it up, makes it bright white again. Cant be one of those cheapo painted cases though... wont hold up!
You need a case or else your camera lens will get scratched by being laid down and slid around on surfaces

Actually, that's sort of the point of the protruding camera. By sticking out, it forces the glass off of any surface. Rather than the entire back (including camera glass) being a wear point like the iPhone, there are only two wear points on the One X. The first is at the bottom of the phone and the second is right at the lip of the camera ring.

Grey HTC One X Looks Really Nice

My girl ended up getting a One X as her upgrade from a 2+ year old BlackBerry. It was between that or the iPhone and I think she made the correct choice! Anyways, she has the grey model and I have the white one. I'm usually a white guy myself when it comes to phones but I must admit the grey one looks really slick. Something about it just looks better than the white one to me. Almost makes me wanna switch.
What do you guys think about the grey model? Am I just trippin?
I went to rogers yesterday looking for grey and they only had white, and said they would only be getting white

Wow if we're having finish issues already no matter the color that is pretty damn frightening!! I mean WTF are they gonna look like in a year? 2 years? You cant replace it. I've replaced my sensation unibody 3 times already to keep it looking nice. Have a white and grey one. Its the complete housing too. Comes off with one push and only thing left is LCD and motherboard lol. They are about $25 on ebay. This hox AIO design is truly gonna suck in a few months...... To me thats the only thing i hate..and its a big hate. HTC Please go back to removable covers, replaceable batteries and sd cards.

Yeah I've noticed that the grey shows oils and such a lot more than the white one.
The best part of grey is that it hides the sensors and speakers making the phone look sleeker. The camera lens surround in brown makes it less prominent. The display and body both being dark also makes it look smaller when you compare them side-by-side.
And a warning since the international version's been out longer, the matte finish does scratch and can be worn away by friction letting the shiny base material show through. This is a phone that needs a case.

Gonna apply a little logic here. If you use a case to cover up the matte that you don't want to lose, whats the point? You keep it covered so you don't get to enjoy it, ever.. Then one day you sell it and some other person gets to enjoy it?
Just use it. When it gets ugly then cover it up.
The white version looked really cheap to me when I played with it in the store. I think the charcoal looks a lot slicker.
Sent from my HTC One X
I have the grey one and I do think it looks slick, but there's just something about that white one... it's sexy as hell. The only reason I got the grey one is I know that over time the white one is going to get scuffed up, especially with the way I toss my phones around. I hate using cases.
there was a white Beats by Dre headphone on display at AT&T that had the same finish as the white HOX. Couldn't of been there longer than a few weeks and it was filthy!!! I wanted white but dang it is going to look nasty in less than a year.
Guys guys guys... best wear prevention you can ever invest in, is a simple pouch for the phone to rest on when it's on any surface and for it to hide inside of whilst in your pocket. That's what I did, and I haven't had even a bit of the finish come off and I've been playing with it nonstop since last Friday. Very cost effective to, the pouch I got was literally 3 dollars shipped to my house from HK

I'm pretty sure the white matte finish isn't going to wear off or scratch -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z137PoI6eWI&feature=youtu.be
Pretty cool vid.
I think the best option for either grey or white is the full body invisible shield from Skinomi. I actually think it makes the phone look even cooler, which I had previously thought impossible.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I already have a bit of wear on my grey one on the natural wear points (about a quarter inch to the left and right of the top edge of the speaker). Really only noticable when I'm intentionally looking for the scuffs but doubtless in a year they will be quite worn down.
But really, who cares. It won't be new forever and some wear gives it a bit of character.

i have only had it on for 24 hours and the orange peel effect is minimul compared to other screen protectors i have used.
this is the first screen protector i have used that you can't notice when the screen is on.
as far as cosmetics goes... I saved you guys from buying this and I only picked it out because it looked like it would be a nice fit but obviously turned out to be kind of ugly, I am thinking once the bumpers come back in stock Ill switch to a clear back seeing that the front is really clear so it should look nice.
I have used all the major companies and this is my favorite screen protector so far.
also if anyone needs tips on applying the sides PM me, that was a pita

Thanks so much! I've had a clear Skinomi full body protector sitting on my desk for days. Wasn't sure if I was going to use or our send it back. You inspired me to use it.
I only applied the front and back. I left the sides for a another time if I feel I need to use it.
It's been 12+ hours since application and I have some dents that I can feel every time I swipe my finger across the screen. It's literally smack dab in the middle of my screen and annoying the Hell out of me! :banghead:
I don't like the feel compared to the naked beauty and butter smoothness that it was before so not sure how long I'll be keeping this thing on.
Been trying to find a quality, ultra slim case or pouch but no luck so far. At this point I'll take the official bumper of they'd just get them back in stock...

[User Review] Hard Red Case with Gel Black borders.

Hey guys, I just recieved this case that I bought from ebay and since I've found it so pleasent to use and to look at, I decided to share my impressions with you, so here we go. Hope you enjoy the pictures, I took a bunch since when I look for a review I want plenty of captures.
Starting off, the case is worth 8 USD and I bought it from ebay. I got it shipped for 4 extra box.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/370726530130?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Starting with the case itself, its made from a hard plastic cover, wich as you can see is coloured red, its smooth at touch but it has some sort of texture on it wich you can't really feel but its there. The borders are made from some kind of tpu plastic wich is totally flexible and I have to say it has a very premium feeling on it, and the back itself has the same feeling of being a nice material that looks and feels incredible.

There are cutouts for the camera, speaker and microphones, and there's also a small cutout that follows the earpiece's shape. Off course, you still get access to your headphone jack as well as the micro usb port.
The power button and volume rocker are protected within the case and don't worry they are very VERY easy to press, even easier that without it, unlike some other cases ( that I also own that are such a pain to press ).
Regarding protection wise, I've been using this case for just 2 days and I haven't dropped my device since then but I'm sure its gonna do well. The borders slightly cover the front of the screen and since they are made to absorb the impact if it lands front-faced and the back is a hard plastic wich its gonna protect it if it lands back-sided.
What about the feeling using it? Well, the phone feels very secure when placed into the case, it doesn't add to much bulk to it to be honest, it's clearly not one of the skinniest out there but it isn't that bulky either. It doesn't add to much weight neither. It's very comfortable to hold to say the least.
I have to say that I'm very pleased with my purchase, since it is very cheap for a case that for my taste it's quite handsome and well made.
Feel free to say if you liked this little review wich I never thought I'd do.
Nice find :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:
Is the red in the pics pretty much what it looks like in real life?

If you are talking about the pics that I captured then yes, that's exactly the colour wich the case actually is.

The power button and volume rocker are protected within the case and don't worry they are very VERY easy to press, even easier that without it, unlike some other cases ( that I also own that are such a pain to press )

Any other cases you have that you can show to compare the size between them?
I'm contemplating on getting either this or a Poetic Bumper since I'm getting tired of my S-line case.

I've got 2 more cheap tpu cases ( S-wave black one and another transparent with a matte back ) but they are fairly similar to it size wise, don't think it's gonna help a comparison between them.

I think it's pretty clear in the pictures, isn't it?. As you can see it offers a little bit of distance between the concrete and your screen if it falls on it, so your screen should be safe from hitting the ground.

Looks amazing, just wish they had it in Amazon... It reminds me of the SGP Ultra Hybrid, or a nicer Ringke Fusion...

White version

I wanted to go without a case because In love the feel of the phone. Has anyone had issues with the paint peeling or anything weird. My Note 3 had chrome peel off and show black underneath.
I want to keep the phone clean looking but hate cases.

The Nexus 5 is also built out of plastic and glass, and Duarte isn't apologizing for the former. "It's not cheap plastic," he says, pointing out that Google actually machines and lasers it to give it more precise lines after it comes out of its mold. "This is hardcore plastic."
Compared to Samsungs cheap ass plastic
Thank God. I love the feel of the phone without a case. Excellent build quality.
Was just afraid to scratch it up and then it look like crap.

White version here. No case or screen protector since release. Slight dulling of the shiny black corners from going in pockets. Nothing else negative to report.

I also got a white one,and only use a screen protector for 2 month now with no issues

Thanks for the replies. I have decided to go naked. Love the feel of this phone.

Naked white for 2 months. No problems.
Until you drop it. A very unlucky slip from ~1.5ft smack on the edge of a glass table by someone who is usually VERY careful with his stuff (that would be me).
But I agree, it does have a very nice feel to it. Too bad it's so fragile.

Until and unless it can be cleaned, getting dirty is fine
Thanks

The risks of going with no case. I've dropped mine in it's case a few times now, at least one of them would've broken it with no protection. There are quite a few posts of people who dropped it and now use a case on their paid replacements.
I was extremely lucky. The damage turned out to be only cosmetic. Rocking a Cruzerlite case now. The great irony in my case (no pun intended) is that my drop happened when I was 'in between' cases. I had just returned one and the new one was to be delivered the next day. **** happens...
I've also had the white one for almost a month now.
I've got two cases: The official Red one (that costs an arm and a leg) but couldn't get on with it. Too stiff, made the phone feel too large and the buttons need a lot of force to activate, I found unlocking the device I needed two hands for in the end.
I ended up buying a second S-Line case, also in red which is less opaque (I can see the branding through the reverse) and my phone feels much nicer in this one. Buttons are easy to use now, and it still feel excellent protected.
I did have a screen-protector for a while, but haven't found one that I like as much as I did on my old Galaxy S3, everything seems too dim with one on.

hey there,
of course you used a case with your nexus 5, but still.... did you have any problem with your white part getting dirty?
also, is the back of the phone smooth or groovy, where the dust just sticks and is hard to wipe off?
Thanks

The white back does not get dirty easily. Its smoother then the black finish and doesn't show fingerprints, the glossy sides can however.

Sorry for replying to such an old quote, I hadn't noticed I'd been quoted. My white part is still pristine.

Also: it's difficult taking pictures of your phone with your phone, without flash... Apologies for the naff picture
