Guide - To Solve MTK Devices ~ Soft Bricked from No IMEI, No Baseband, No RIL, No WiFi MAC, BT MAC, comms etc.
Note:
This is a "clone thread" from my original thread. I post another guide at here to help those who are in difficulty finding the correct guide to solve this problem. This method probably works on all Mediatek devices. For reference, my Lenovo P780 uses a MTK 6589 chipset.
DISCLAIMER:
*What you done to your phone is at your OWN RISK, you choose to do this modifications to your phone and don't blame me if anything goes wrong.
Preface:
Recently I have noticed many people who tried to flash Custom ROM's on MediaTek devices and causes the phone to lose IMEI, Baseband, RIL, WiFi MAC, BT MAC, SN, comms etc. and causes connectivity issues (including me), which renders our MediaTek devices turned into a "AndroidPod" media device that cannot make calls, SMS etc. As an example, my Lenovo P780 which faced the exactly same problem.

See the IMEI and baseband are still there in factory mode!!!
What could cause this is problem to occur is probably during ROM flashing process, the installer probably wiped out the /data/nvram (folder/partition). The /data/nvram (folder/partition) is the heart of your phone of all communicating feature, if the (folder/partition) is corrupted, just like I said, no communication features.
*Actually the baseband is there, but because the /nvram (folder/partition) has corrupted, the Android OS were unable to recognize it thus showing Unknown.
So no backup = Phone dead? Nothing but a media player?
First step, ensure your phone:
On Stock ROM
Rooted
PC have ADB drivers installed (If you don't have it please ask Uncle Google :good
Well, that isn't true, recently I found out, the phone can actually be easily recovered (on most MediaTek devices) and gain at least those comm features back by simply delete the whole /nvram (folder/partiton). If your phone coldn't recognize SIM card, wait a while after deleted the folder, your phone should have signal after maximum 10 seconds of waiting.
*In most of the cases MobileUncleTools give AT command failed to send probably the /nvram folder is corrupted, simply delete the NVRAM folder and reboot will do.
For WiFi MAC address fix (WiFi NVRAM WARNING: ERR 0x10), because the solution already been posted, so please click here.
Bluetooth MAC address fix: Firstly, using any File Explorer with Root abilities navigate to /data/nvram/APCFG/APRDEB/BT_Addr and also a BT_Addr file under /data, then copy both files to your PC. Then open up the file by using Hex Editor (HHD Hex Editor). To fix a static MAC address, just simply type in your MAC address on the first row (0000) from column (00-05). That is what your MAC address should be (Edit both files with the same MAC address). After you have modified it, put it back in the exact location and remember to change permission.
Actually you can also get restore your IMEI, WiFi MAC, BT MAC, SN by restoring a backup created by MTKDroidTools with other exact same model as your phone.
Hi,
I have a Pomp W99 (MTK6589T) and it seems this model (or it's software) has the problem, that Wifi and Bluetooth MAC address changes on every activation.
While I was able to fix the changing MAC address with the procedere as described I still have the problem of the changing Bluetooth MAC, which is very annoying.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Thanks & Ciao, Alfred

Thanks for this but sadly, this doesn't work, I've already tried it.
I have a BT_Addr in /data/nvram/APCFG/APRDEB but the mac address there is not used.
I also have a BT_Addr in /data and it seems, this one gets updated with the current MAC.
I tried removing the file rights so that the file could not be altered, but now I have a static address in the file that is different from the one shown in the telephone status.
I'm still getting on every enabling of bluetooth a new address, always like xx:xx:46:66:xx:xx (the two bytes in the middle ar always the same).
My only solution at the moment is not to disable Bluetooth and not to reboot my phone, because else I have to re-pair all bluetooth devices.
I would even be lucky with a solution that would change the bluetooth MAC to static one by script after enabling Bluettoth but I couldn't find anything about this, all I could find was about changing wifi MAC address.
Maybe you have another idea?
Thanks & Ciao, Alfred

Or you can try editing both files with the same MAC address? Save and set permissions?

Been there, done this.
Both files have the same address and permissions are set so that they cannot be altered.
Still the OS keeps creating random addresses, so it doesn't seem the files are read by the system but only get written.

Well that's weird, technically it should be static already. Never mind, I will keep searching for other solution. Sorry for that you can't get it to work.
Or perhaps, do you have any friends / relatives of yours using the same phone? You can try MTKDroidTools to make a NVRAM backup of their phone and restore the settings to your phone. That should fix it.
I get something like that after a STAR N9002 Update, but with something else...
My touch doesn't mach the screen, the screen is normal but the touch point's are out of place... do you understand? like the touch have a resolution diferent from the screen resolution...
Do you think this is caused from a software problem, NVRAM is missing and happen all in the same reboot AFTER the update...
I'm trying to get a backup copy of NVRAM, but I don't know if the touch will be ok after that...
Thanks.

I know, I have encountered the problem before on a cheap China tablet. That isn't caused by /nvram corrupt/missing but the touch driver you have are not compatible with your touch hardware. I'd suggest you restore from a backup.
Thank's for your answer. I've already get a NVRAM backup to set me up. That's ok, but the touch is still messed. I don't have a backup... I don't know how I will get it...

Do you have any friend's or anyone you know using the exact same phone? My idea is: Find an 100% identical phone (probably from dealer is the best bet). Backup the entire phone using MTKDroidTools, and then restore the backup to your phone. After that just restore back your original /nvram partition (you wouldn't want the same IMEI and related info isn't it?)
Therotically your phone should work/recover.
Yes, I'm waiting for a promised integral backup. That's my final hope now...

Okay... Good luck bro. Next time if you hands-on with any MTK devices. Be sure backup it first using MTKDroidTools. It's a very useful and powerful backup software.
No luck for me.
Even a full backup did not make the touch work well.
I think a backup is a good way to prevent flash problems, but what I have was far worst than that. Some how, the flash procedure burn the touch driver chip, and there's no way to make them work again...
I'll have to replace it... that's a shame...
Thanks for your support.

Oh, sure. That's my point, if some software bricked it, some software should repost it...
Anyway, I already order a new Touch panel for it, thanks.

Sorry, i'm missing something here...
Do you know some way to do a touch upgrade with software? I don't. That's why I must buy a new one.
But if you know a way, please post here...
I already flash all possible ROM's, even a full a backup of a similar phone with no results...
Thanks.

Hi all;
My name is Dean and i have strange problem with my PDA.
The device is bought in Thailand in 2006 during my visitation to the country, originally I'm from Serbia.
PDA device is: O2, XDA Zinc, Windows Mobile 5.0 [English language]
On my laptop i have ActiveSync 4.5.0 installed and broadband internet connection.
Here is description of problem:
I wanted to connect my PDA device to my laptop using USB data cable, so i could have internet on it, but here is what happened.
I plug the cable to the device and my activesync didn't recognize the device. Instead strange error appeared on the display, saying "can not execute Mobilerss.exe" and then OS just freeze. I unplugged the device, preformed soft reset but this time i didn't plug in the cable, and again error showed and OS freezes.
With OS frozen like this i couldn't do anything... even the backlight went off and it wont turn on when i press button or tap the touch screen!
I though it would be good to uninstall mobile rss application which causes the problem, and because i don't use it wont be a problem, so i tried to do it, but i couldn't. [Maybe i didn't know how] so i deleted the app folder from the program files manually.
After that i hoped that i solved the problem but i was surprised to see the same error again!!! I did hard reset, even that didn't help...
I got one suggestion to try uninstall activesync and install older version, so i did that... I used 4.2 this time but error was still there, same message on the screen etc...
Now, what ever i do, plug or unplug the cable, preform soft or hard reset OS just freezes and i cant do anything...
Im running out of options so i ask for help of all you people.
If you need more details and i can provide them just ask, no problem.
Thank you in advance for any suggestion...
Dolke

I flashed it...
I got that boot screen image, the green wm6, and than i was asked to tap the screen. Screen align program started and i'm stuck, i can't turn it off or enter home windows screen!
Help please
Try to reflash it one more time. Make sure that you are following ashburn's instructions properly since you have a chance of bricking the device if you don't follow procedure...

I did it again... followed every instruction written above but i just stopped at same place... Activesync recognizes the device, and the green LED blinks... but i cant get out of alignment application and see the home screen in WM..
I even tried to flash the device with older crumzz ROM - 19202-Xlt but OS stopped at same place - align app! Don't have a clue why is this happening ???
Are you leaving your device connected to the computer after its done with the flashing? It might be that AS is trying to sync with the device while it is setting up all the initial files and such...
After you are done flashing, try to disconnect the device from the computer, so that you no longer have interference from AS.
Alternatively, you could try to flash a stock rom. That normally solves a few issues here and there.
Good luck.

First, thanks for the help mate.
I disconnected the USB cable - didn't help...
I even terminated AS process from the Windows Task Manager so it couldn't interfere with the process of flashing...
What about this i quoted above? Can you give me some tips, thanks ?

A stock rom is a rom that is provided by your carrier/mgf of your phone. It is basically the original rom that came with your device. For the most part, most vendors have them available for download or by request to their customer support centers. Try to look in the O2 page, you might find it there.
Are you taking out the storage card before flashing? I have seen this causing problems in different phones when they are left in.

The only other thing I can think of is that your digitizer is busted. Do you have a warranty? You may be able to send your phone for repair...
hmmmm u try and sync ur Mobile..... look for a software thats skips the Align menu... i got a blue angel too that happen like urs before i use a certain app to do it and it skips tthe align thingy... well all i know my blue angel was not working well... i accidentally drop it one day and the touch screen works... but im not asking u to drop it lol... do not take the risk like me haha... but try to look for the soft i mention above....

UPDATE on my issue
I manage to solve this problem by making an empty file welcome.not [just make notepad text file, but change the extension from .txt to .not] and then upload it to root of the SD card.
I did HR and SF... after that OS booted without welcome screen and alignment setting...
Thank you all for the support!
I suggest mod's to put SOLVED tag in the subject of this thread.

ns pro never corrupts the imei of galaxy s 4g. {t959v}. I ve unlocked many such galaxy 4gS.
IMEI corruption had occured must be due to incorrect ( ' i9000 modem unlock patch file') flashing with z3x followed by a repair attempt with the ns pro modem repair file. AND then some desperate attempts with ODINs also.
So many files now on board - try your luck OR wait for a pro solution to be released.

Hope someone can help.

U sure that ur files is nv_dat.din and nv_data.binrm ?
I had this problem and it is because the app is supposed to take the nvdata.bin out change the codeing to make the phone unlocked and then it puts the file back in the phone and your unlocked. If it is not there then the app failed to restore the .bin and thats why u have no imei. Find the file and push it back with the adb method for unlock. I do not like these unlocking apps. they can cause too much bs if they do not operate properly. I use adb to extract the file to my sd card and then place on desktop and edit the file with a hex editor. U only have to change a few 0's to 1's or vice versa and its super easy if u follow the thread about how to unlock the sgs 4g with this method. (can't remember which one but it is in our forum for sure) Then u push your nvdata.bin back to the phone with adb and ur unlocked. To relock the phone u do the same method and change back what u changed to unlock it. ( 0's to 1's or vice versa. just read the thread.)

I'm kind of in the same boat.
I bought a phone off craigslist didn't work now im stuck with a phone i can use wireless on. attempting to make a call, the call drops instantly , received calls go straight to voicemail.
after researching all this past week.. i've noticed the following probles so here is my situation at hand.
i have the IMEI issue with corrupted characters except mine says 04 at the end.
unable to root.
unable to put this phone in download mode
(attempting to fix the imei issue reflashing with odin)
I have no back up files
unable to enter recovery mode manually. I read from another thread someone was able to do so using t mobile one click root program for vibrant ,
which works for this, but when i tried to root i get e signature verification fail issue as well.
I've read countless threads and forums and about to inquire to samsung or t-mobile for a repair. my aim is to get this phone operable.
i'd like to help myself on the issues but find myself at a dead end with being unable to put in download mode ,and yes ive tried the different methods of holding buttons/ inserting usb.
and at another dead end being unable to get this rooted because of signature verification fails.. any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.
are the files device specific? cuz if not i had same problem and i fixed it...i will post file if not device specific, someone just let me know.
Here are all the steps to root and install a custom recovery on your X710D

1. Download files HERE
2. Extract 'Android flash' anywhere to your desktop
3. Open the folder within called 'USB VCOM Driver' and chose the folder then file that is your operating system (the .inf) and paste it to your desktop
4. Pull the battery out of your phone and connect the phone to you computer whilst holding the volume up button
5. Open device manager. You should see your phone (it re-appeared every 5 seconds for me). Right click on your phone and press update driver, then browse manually for the .inf file you put on your desktop. Once you've done that disconnect your phone
6. Open 'Android flash' and open Flash_tool and select all the files to make it look like the picture below
7. Press download, then plug in your phone whilst pressing volume up button
8. Done! You now have CWM and have rooted your phone! There are also some other apps that are added too
If you are having issues with your IMEI code read this post here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30534835&postcount=32
There's also a issue with external sd cards which is currently being worked on. (phone can't write to sd card. if you attempt, phone reports sd card as damaged and sd card will need to be re-formatted)
Big thanks to yiminghung, he helped me figure out how to do it.
If I've made any errors in this please tell me I will fix asap, and if anyone has any updates/ROMs, please message me and I'll post them here.
Looks Good!

Getting warning message "not all images are correctly loaded"
Followed all step to the "click Download", when i click download a warning dialog tells me that not all images are correctly loaded, which may cause boot up issue!, do I want to continue"
I have checked many times and all images are set as you have shown in your screen shot?
Any Idea what is not right?
Edit: it appears to be caused by DSP_BL not being selected??

Hi all. I am a new registered. My name is Filippo and I'm Italian (sorry for my English googltraslate).
In a few days I will come to me x710d. I wanted to ask you questions.
1) What improvements does the root of the phone? Have to wait at the root with the update to Android 4.1 bj?
2) Before you root, I have to make a backup / image of the system for use in case I have a problem? If it is, how should I do it?
3) This root change the size of the internal memory or I'll do it later? In the second case, how can I swap the memory card with the internal one?
The last question is that there is risk in doing these operations? You advise me to do to its?
Excuse my inexperience and thank you all in advance.
Thank you so much for posting this. The Flash tool is quite confusing to use. Your instructions really helped.

Success or Failure
I have tried many ways\suggestions to root my X710D and this is the only one I have not yet tried.
Before I do try this procedure It would be helpful if people that have done this on the X710D could report their success or failure.
I would like to know this because I do not know enough and do not want the get into more trouble with the device.
Thanks for sharing your experiences....
I successfully rooted my x710d using the steps given. Before I rooted my phone, I updated it to the latest 4.0.9 (latest firmware is in another forum read here).
This root also comes with the custom recovery (probably taken from HTC because there is an HTC boot screen logo). However, I encountered three main problems after the I successfully executed everything.
First, my IMEI got erased (solved this using ZOPO). (read here there is an explanation how to put your IMEI's back. )
Second, external Sd-card gets no write permissions and also it errors damaged sd-card from time to time (still finding ways to solve this).
Third; Since, I live in Japan, I am still finding ways how to enable MMS on this thing through sofbank.
for the good side;
Rooted phone is awesome.
This phone is quite fast for its price especially with the new firmware.
Sofbank APN settings where automatically there already (I dunno if this was because of ICS or X710d firmware just came in with these settings). Everything else is working very well. Camera, Bluetooth, GPS, WIFI, Radio, etc....
GreatPharaoh Thanks for such a clear and detailed post, this is what makes XDADevelopers such a great community.
Your reply is just what I needed to hear, me being new to this platform.
I purchased one of these as a development machine with the intention of using it as my phone also, but I had been highlighted that some sellers just are not in a position to support the products they sell. We also order two more from another seller to edge our bets on delivery times, but when we discovered some issues and the second seller also demonstrated that they have poor after sales support when managed to cancel these additional two X710D (with an insulting response from this seller).
I my case I asked very specific questions about the product and got nothing but positive replies before purchase, in addition I needed the device to have a working compass and magnetic sensor which also received a "Yes" but once we confirmed payment communication with the delivery and questions dried up. Once delivered, we found that while the X710D does have a Compass and Magnetic sensor they are not implemented.
Now we are concerned about the IMEI bug and these seller does not want to know about it.
So, while we accepted some risk in purchasing a Chinese phone at reasonable price, we really are concerned about this model and did not anticipate the amount of risk.
Now being a software developer (not Android or Linux) I had the approach the we can fix anything, but at this time in a new OS world it has proven to be again high risk and we can not afford to brick this device. So we have decided to return it for a refund.
I will continue to monitor these posts, because I am keen to see if things get resolved and to learn from the experiences of others. It is great to see many members with far greater skills than mine helping each other.
I have also had great hand-holding from ColonelZap through some of out attempts to resolve these issues, so a huge thanks to him.
Again thanks GreatPharaoh for a great post and I am sure that it will help others looking at the X710D and maybe they will find a solution to your remaining issues.

The X710D is a copy of the HTC Evo 4g LTE which will explain the boot logo.
Thank you for mentioning the sd card issue, i bought a rather expensive 32gb class 10 card to find it didnt work in my phone. Its very difficult to get it to work and when it does work my phone cant write to it. If you find a fix ill update the maim post.

Lost IMEI on x710D
Is this issue of losing IMEI only related to the X710D or is this a common problem with Chinese Android phones?
Once again, deepest Thanks to Jaw2Floor for posting the steps.
@Technica; yup, I couldn't agree with you more about these sellers. Seems like these phones where probably manufactured in someones old garage with one or two developers who couldn't do much english. And they would just send em to these vendors for retail. These sellers, However, are so smart with marketing, they would flood youtube and google with fake reviews (although most of em are just unboxings) and lead us with just curiosities. This is probably why they are so good at selling but very bad in support. Long story short, we are only paying for the hardware here.
For the Imei case: I wonder why everyone is not having this problem..?. Maybe this is also hardware related. This was the first problem I faced right after my first ever Factory Default Reset on the phone. I was so terrified that moment, I thought I bricked or fried the modem.
The Sd-card issue is still there: "My temporary fix is reformat card in PC and recopy your media. Do this every time you get the damaged sd-card error."
I can access my card with read permissions only. My media gallery and other media apps can see the card and the contents. However, as soon as I start to write the card (e.g. making new folder or deleting a file from any file explorer app) the "Damaged sd-card error" will start to appear and you wont be able to get rid of this until you take the card out, format it in your PC, recopy all your media, then mount it again in your x710d. This is what ive been doin for the past couple of days to enjoy music in this phone.
The Headphone Jack is also too deep. If you compare side by side the stock headphone/mic with any other regular headphone, this one came in with a much longer jack. I was able to fix this problem by widening the headphone hole on the phone's back casing and also splicing an mm of rubber on my regular headphone jack.
The stock Email-app are having problems setting up with Yahoo's mail servers. So, im using K-9 mail for now.
As for now, I am enjoying this phone. I get a lot of eye's whenever I take this out of my pocket in Tokyo trains. Its not a note! Its the money-saver version.
Hello,
I have two ZTE V970 phones and I copied the contents of one to the other (by backing to nandroid on one, copying the backup to the other and restoring there).
All i sine except that it copied also the IMEI numbers and the MAC address.
I succeeded to chage back the IMEI but the MAC stumps me.
I tried all the methods I found on the net but to no avail.
Is there someone who changed the MAC on a V970 or similar?
Thankfully yours,

Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1385577
You have also restored userdata, haven't you? That's most likely the problem. Using a root explorer just go to /data and delete nvram folder. Let it be created from scratch.

Hi Bruno, I love your work, specially with V970M phones. Great job by the way.
I have a big problem with one of my phone, broken screen etc., I manage to repair it, format the NVRAM and installed your v1.2. But then I have a similar problem, IMEI's all gone, Wifi with NVRAM ERROR 0x10 and Bluetooth NOK also (these last two keep change everytime I turn them on), since I have 2 phones, I read a bit about this and tried to change de MAC's for the Wifi and BT. Restored the IMEI with Engineer Mode, I then copy the \Data\nvram\APCFG\APRDEB\ folder content, it worked but there's two problems:
1st Both MAC for WIFI and BT are the same as the other device... not good.
2nd Everytime I make a full system reset, it losts all the data EMEI's and MAC's... and I need to input everything again.
I red somewhere, that we can edit the BT_Addr and WIFI (files with APRDEB) with HxD Hex Editor, search for the MAC's and change it, replace the files, but after reboot, the Mac's continue to change everytime I connect the WF & BT (and the error 0x10 appears again).
My question is, there's anyway that I can change the MAC's in MTK Enginner Mode, or use some tools that really work (tried a couple like MAC_Spoof and others but they cannot read the MAC's) and if there's anyway (after all been corrected IMEI & MAC's) to make it "permanent" and everytime I make a full reset or install a new ROM, don't loose all these data?
Thank one more.
Best regards everyone.
JJ
I had the problem with my MMX A177
I was not able to change MAC add in terminal emulator and MAC spoofer
But guys try MTK engineering mode its working for MMX devices.
I was doing this to hack WhatsApp but it verify the device and u register previous device.
Is there any new trick to hack WhatsApp?
Hi, can someone guide me as to how I can restore my lost IMEI - Serial No back to stock? using SM-G920FD (duos)
Kindly refer below to the details of my problem and actions done.
How the issue happened
1. I'm currently on stock firmware of SM-G920FD (COH8). (Local copy of COH8 flashed via ODIN)
2. I received an OTA update (COI9) and installed it. Phone works perfectly fine.
3. After doing some tests on some kernel (arters97's kernels), I have decided to revert back to stock firmware since the kernel uses Note 5 gpu driver (not knowing that someone has prepared a flashable zip for S6 flat/edge) :crying:
4. I use my local copy of COH8 and flashed via ODIN. The flash failed thru sboot.bin - that tells me the bootloader is outdated on my phone *ugh.
5. I downloaded COI9 firmware from samfirmware site and flashed it via odin.
6. It is now stucked at first samsung logo. After going to recovery it says cannot mount /efs
Fixes I made
1. I dont know much stuff with efs thingy, that's why I didn't do a backup for it.
2. First fix, (this is the worst step I ever made - that costs me into this big trouble) I installed a "something" application that requires me to format the efs partition. Well done to myself, the app successfully wipe it all without backing up efs .
3. Now the phone is stucked to samsung first logo. Period. Even Reflashing stock via odin failed. Realizing the efs files are all messed up.
4. Now, after searching thru forums, Ive come into this adb command by running this, .
/system/xbin/su
mke2fs /dev/block/sda3
mount -t ext4 /dev/block/sda3
After doing this, Ive been able boot into device, I have a working WIFI, a valid ip address.
a. no bluetooth address
b. no imei for both sim 1 and sim 2
c. Incorrect Serial Number
d. No network of course
After deep searching thru xda, Ive come across with nv_data.bin editing thru Hex Editor. It could probably return my IMEI and Serial No back to normal(i still have the imei no & serial at the back of my phone ).
Perhaps, the only way to fix this will be on a repair shop to fix my imei. I doubt my samsung warranty would help since Im constantly flashing stuffs on my phone.
Can someone share me their full EFS folder zipped with Galaxy S6 SM-G920FD / G920F (probably a single sim will do) so I could compare and edit my own imei that would be a great help and I'll give a feedback asap.
Hoping someone can help me on this. Thank you
Anyone?

There is loads of information on the forums to recover lost IMEI. Did you try flashing a modem and bootloader update. This should generate the efs folder with nv_data.bin. You still may not have the correct IMEI and serial in the nv_data.bin, but at least you can edit it.
Search the forums I have seen loads and loads of tutorials for this problem.
Not many people are quick to give out there IMEI.

No, modem and bootloader flashing does nothing.
I do already have a pre-generated-stock nv_data.bin from my efs folder.
Can you give me an example of a working thread that requires editing of nv_data via editor that works?
The problem is that their issue has worked specifically on their device, none of the Galaxy S6 users were able to do that afaik. Almost a week since i started searching for answers but to no avail.
For example this, the thread below says that I should goto this address [offset] 00188008 but in my Galaxy S6 nv_data.bin, the file is only up to 000FFFF0 offset?? That's why I need help from others to at least share their fixes or comparison of this thread below with their nv_data.bin file. If there is similarity. Forget sharing your imei to me, but maybe you can consider how am I supposed to do that fix on the other thread.
Thanks

Or if someone can find their IMEI code in nv_data.bin, kindly share to me the offset (location) of the IMEI in hex editor. That would be a good start. Thanks

I can't remember exactly the offset location but I have seen it on my phone a few weeks back. I do remember seeing a few tutorials on YouTube. I will take a look tomorrow and if you haven't it solved by then I will help you fix it....
Thanks, hoping you could help me on that.
Something is weird on how efs is generated. I backed up the messed up nv data from efs folder. Then I deleted the contents of whole efs folder then reboot.
When phone booted, to my surprise I notice that it still generated the contents of efs. Then I compared the Newly generated nv_data to my backedup nv_data. No difference -_-. Still incorrect imei was given to me. 350000000000006 format both for sim 1 and sim 2.
Phone Info app says that my imei info (www.imei.info) was from an apple device rofl.
Since its giving me same and same imei and no product code/serial code
I suspect that my IMEI was generated from embedded hardware/chip??? But i think its not possible to mess any of the hardwareparts from flashing custom roms/zips/stock firmwares alone?
Hmm I think there's no chance for it to recover? since it is always giving me Generic Imei
One user says that it could be the hardware is somewhat corrupted or cant be modified blah blah

You showed your edited IMEI on your phone, but you didn't share how ?
I think this is what Im looking for, but HOW???
1. What is that cert file? Can it be installed via phones system files?
2. Does it need third party app and a toolbox hardware to buy and install? It smells like its for technician part already :|
3. Since it needs key cert, how can I generate this? Thru the 3rd party also?
But FYI, Im not into modifying IMEI as it illegal, what I wanted to do is to restore my device's IMEI found at the back of my phone.

You have now lost the IMEI
If you still have flash the firmware is invalid
I think no way to restore the original IMEI
If change IMEI is illegal in your country, it would be a sad thing
ugh. Based from your pictures, you used 3rd party hardware tool and app something like octopus box and the likes.
You're telling me to give this to technician, as it is the only way to fix my issue?

What I wanted to do is to change my IMEI to stock IMEI (printed on my phone) so that it can connect legally to my network provider. If your way is good, maybe you can help me how to change my IMEI
Changing IMEI i.e., frying someones IMEI to hacked/stolen/blocklisted phones are definitely illegal.
Back to my issue, did you send your phone to technician/ did you have the box tool to flash cert files to your phone?
Hope you can help me thanks

ugh. Based from your pictures, you used 3rd party hardware tool and app something like octopus box and the likes.
You're telling me to give this to technician, as it is the only way to fix my issue?

Yes the octopus can do it

My English really bad, I speak a little bit more simple
If you don't have a backup EFS and your mobile phone and lost IMEI.
The solution is to use the BOX to write a new IMEI so that you will get a new IMEI
You write a new IMEI may and other mobile phone to repeat After doing this You will forfeit the warranty In addition to Will not affect the normal use of your phone
Samsung CERT is unique And only CERT must be the truth

Yes, you need a BOX and a clean CERT
Well still thank you for the replies, only repair via technician is the only way . Requesting for mod to close the thread. No way the imei can be reverted back via EFS - NV way, flashing stock modem, backing and restoring efs, mke2fs thingy, flashing stock firmware and so on.
There is part on the chip of the phone that literally erases the phone info for my s6.
If any can give other ways before I let go HAHAHA, but please refrain from efs,nv_data,flashing stock stuff, as the firmware doesn't have to do with restoring efs. Only the hardware device stores efs info for our phone.

If your phone is KNOX 0 x0
Then you can look for samsung to solve for you
I wish you good luck, my friend
Thanks , haha but my knox is 0x1 already
Tried to bring it to a legit 3rd party technician and they assigned a new IMEI for my phone and its working fine now.
imo I brought it first to Samsung and tells me that my warranty is void, but they can fix it via hardware replacement and would cost me at around $350. Lol no way!!!
For those who tried to do anything when all methods do not work, frustrations etc. This is the quickest way to restore it.
But thanks for the info I got from XDA members, now Ive learned that the first rule should be applied whenever possible before its too late.
To all other Explorers/newbies/Risk taker out there. Remember this one word.
BACKUP!!!!
Thanks.
