Hello everybody
With this $199 discounted price Nvidia Shield is really apealing to me, but my gamer PC is a Lenovo Y510p Laptop with GT 750M SLI. As far as I understand it only works with laptops with GTX GPUs, but I wonder is there is any way to work with my GT 750M GPU?
If its posible then I'm buying the Shield for sure.
Thanks a lot!
I think from today, GameStream should work on laptops too.

GPU: GeForce GTX 650 or higher desktop GPU, or NVIDIA Kepler™-based GeForce GTX 600M or higher notebook GPU
Don't worry about GTX, just make sure your card is equal to or higher than the 650 GTX for desktop and at least a 600m or higher on laptop.

I don't think its going to work actually. The support page on NVidia says you need a GTX 600m or better, The lenovo only has GT 750m.
I also have a lenovo laptop (Y500) with an SLI GT 750m, and my NVidia GeForce Experience says I cant stream to shield due to my graphics card.
You can probably still use Splashtop with decent results, being the shield is a Tegra 4 device. But I dont think the official streaming will work for you. :c

The update hasn't release yet. Right now its not notebook compatible, I think early April is when we get the update.
Also 750m ~= 650m/660m its a rebrand. It states 600m or higher which the 700 series is

I'll stay tuned. That'd be pretty nice.
I have the Y510P with SLI, it's not working yet. You don't need to have the nVidia Shield to find out, nVidia Experience will say the GPU requirement isn't met. Just have to wait for the next driver maybe.
I would still buy the device, for $180 at newegg using V.me coupon code, it's still a great device.
I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y510p with dual GT 750m and I just got the latest Geforce Experience update. It says that my computer doesn't meet the minimum requirement for Game Streaming or Shadowplay. It says that it requires a GTX 660M, 670MX, 675MX, 680M or 700M or higher.
My only guess is that since it is a GT 750m that it doesn't meet these specs. The technology should be in the GPU to support it, but maybe there were issues implementing on the driver end. I'm trying to update to the latest beta driver (337.50) to see if that allows it, but there seems to be a problem downloading the new driver. And since I'm at work, I don't have the time to try and fix/get around that issue atm.
The GT series does not have the Encoder Chip that is needed for streaming. Only the GTX series cards have it. So your pretty much out of luck.
I was so on the edge about buying one right now but my GT 750m didn't make the cut :/
From SyKeko 18 at https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/724545/non-gtx-750m-workaroud-for-gamestream-/?offset=7
The hardware encoder chip for h.264 is also included in the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M models along with others. This is stated even on your specifications page of the graphics card, along with notebookcheck.net's review of the card. I do not find it too impossible to have Game Stream up and running for the GT series Kepler cards which are more than capable. http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-gt-750m/specifications
Unless this is false advertisement, it should be 100% possible. Now I understand that different hardware has different specs even if they are in the same family, but as far as I have seen, read, and been told by NVIDIA themselves, the only "reason" as to why there is not Game Stream for the Kepler GT and GT-M chips is because they lack the hardware decoder. Please shed more light on the situation if there is more to be told. Thank you.
Kepler Architecture
Yes most (but not all) of the GT 600, 700, etc. cards have the encoder chip built in and ready for use, but NVIDIA has chosen to NOT enable them! I did (and am still doing) research into this matter, to see if there is actually something prohibiting this on the hardware level. So far, it is not a hardware limitation at all.
GTX cards are usually more powerful than their GT counterparts in many areas, but the h.264 encoder chip is not one of them. I saw a registry hack to prove this somewhere here on XDA that worked with older versions of GFE (1.6 and lower) and SHIELD Android OS 4.2 with many GT cards--desktop and mobile. If native Game Stream wasn't possible, then the registry hack wouldn't do a thing.
I personally have two GT 750M cards in my laptop so performance isn't an excuse either (you can manage with just one of those cards for a while).
P.S.: That was the comment I posted on the GeForce forums a few days ago lol

Wrong Wrong Wrong. Streaming worked at one time with the workaround (they have sense disabled). So anything saying the card doesn't support it is completely incorrect.
So there is nothing to do for us Lenovo Y510p users? I find this dumb because this machine can run most modern games on 1080p, 60fps on mid to ultra settings...

Hi all. Just finished ordering this tablet that is currently running cupcake. Would love to root it and install a custom ROM. Any info on how I can achieve this?
Thanks in advance
offtopic... does the apad run any good? is it smooth?
Why is it off topic. It is a tablet that runs android. Do not have it yet so can't comment on how good or bad it runs.
i was asking an off topic question (i.e. not related to your question). guess i phrased my sentence wrongly. do post here on how well this device seems to perform.
I will. Thanks for your intrest.

I only paid $100.00 US for my tablet. This one is considerably more.

hey could you pm me the site where you purchased it from?
could you update your main post with the specs that you ordered from? Apparently there are Apad clones with crappy processors instead of the rockchip processors
Dealextreme has it for cheap
dealextreme is the crap version. the proper apad is the one with rockchip in it. and i found out that the cheapest apad with rockchip is ~150usd
i have one of those too.
with the rockchip which actually is not to bad of a processor. nowhere near the A4 but ok to work with.
it's an ARM derivative and consists of a cpu and dsp(gpu).
i would also like to know if anybody has played with it yet.
i followed the android instructions of building a development envirnment and have the tablet actually show up in eclipse but where to go from here?
sorry for threadjacking a bit
i would first of all like to be able to upgrade android. if possible 2.2 or at least to 1.6.
the device has the upgrade locked.
the are also language option conflicts were suggestive text and some keyboard keys still show up in (i guess) Chinese.
It'll most likely be impossible to upgrade the apad to 2.1/2.2 as rockchip dsp isn't actually a gpu, its a video processor for videos only.
on another note i have decided to pass up on the apad as it doesn't seem that "future-proof" most likely will get this http://www.wiipad.us/product.php?id_product=11 unless better options come out in the next 1 month or so
does android 2.x require a specialized dedicated gpu?
the dsp is essentially a gpu, it is capable of playing 720p video.
it should be plenty for android 2.x to get around
so i can move files from the device to the pc.
i copied the data and system folder.
what to do now?

Yeah but it decodes videos only, a gpu actually pumps out the graphics which is an intergral part of 2.1 onwards (also in the rockchip's specs i saw somewhere this chip does not support 2.1) The wiipad neno has a cortex a8 core which is similar to the ipad's processor so it is running on 2.1.

I'm just wondering if the one running 2.2 and Tegra2 has a better screen. Aside from that main difference looks to be an HDMI out port.
If anyone has any interest in hands-on experiences with the ViewPad 10 let me know. This is the tablet that dual-boots Windows 7 and Android 1.6.
I bought one for my wife for Christmas and she is really happy with it. Windows runs well and the touch interface works well. The Android half is only 1.6 but runs really fast and does what she needs to.

Is this CPU dual core?
What is the touchscreen? eGalax?
Has vacant mini-pci-e?
Or all the 2 mini pci-e slots are occupied by SSD and Wifi card?
Can you upgrade the RAM from 1 Gb to 2 Gb card?
Is SD card recognised in Grub and can you boot by SD in the current GRUB setup?
Looks like the 10s is actually a version of the Vega.
Windows tabs (this one included) are Atom cpu powered and the chipset can not handle Android code beyond 1.6.
Though the Tegra 2 is powerful for a passively cooled chipset, it will not power Windows well at all. Need more cpu power and fan cooling.

Seems like it, just with a different chassis. But why would VS do that?
In essence, if it IS Vega guts then it's no different than a G Tablet except that it has less internal storage + the hdmi port. That would be pretty...what's the word, scammy? Maybe they're trying to 'shed' the G Tablet image.
But you don't give people less bang for their buck albeit in a different/new package and manage to charge more for it unless you're Apple or evil.

Wha?
I was under the impression the only reason Tegra 2 doesn't power Windows currently is that Windows doesn't have an ARM compatible product currently, and that should change by 2012.
As far as Android on intel architecture - that's up to Google. There's no reason that it shouldn't be able to run well unless Google has optimized code in Android especially for ARM vs. x86/x64 since Linux runs well on everything.

The article says it is only available outside the US. So it looks like they want a tablet both inside and ouside the US. Maybe it is easier for them to choose two tablets that are already approved to work in the corresponding locations, compared to getting the gtablet modified to work outside the US or the Vega modified to work inside.
Folks, there is no such thing as a Tegra 2 Windows device. Will not work correctly.
The device has an Intel Atom 400 series chipset and has a fan.

Not sure what you are saying. The Viewpad 10 is the one with android 1.6 and windows and has the atom processor and fan. The Viewpad 10s is a rebranded advent vega with a tegra 2, running android 2.2.
A fan has noting to do with anything. My windows 7 netbook is passivly cooled. The tegra 2 is more than enough to handle windows, the oly problem being is an arm arcitecture. But hey! We can run windows 95/98 with bochs!
There is absolutely no way that you will ever run Windows 7 on any ARM processor (ie: the Tegra 2). ARM is a totally different and incompatible architecture from x86, which is what Windows 7 runs on.
You Got It!

I think you got it right there. I would assume the VEGA is a lot more successful (critically-wise) than the GTablet's been so maybe they are looking to leave the Android tablet making to the experts!

If we're both right, then the premium you are paying is more than likely a manufacturing fee to VEGA and HOPEFULLY some marketing push from Viewsonic to get this thing popular and get a good following for the device. The reason WE want a following... DEVs to MOD it!

Chainfire works fine on the Transformer. However, it hasn't helped with any Gameloft games, so far. I pretty much comb the web in search of working Gameloft versions, and have tried MANY combinations of apk, SD data, and Chainfire, for multiple games.
If you try, and manage to get anything working with Chainfire, please let me know. I would love some more playable games.

Yes. There's a long thread about the spark/firewire unit at Slatedroid and very bad wifi reception issues.
Apparently the fix is to open up the back and do a minor tweak to the antenna, which offsets the issue caused by the aluminium chassis.

Yes, it's a very impressive device: Exynos 4412 powered, 2Gb RAM, IPS 1280x800, Bluetooth, GPS... all for $185, not bad. I dunno about its firmware... I hope a good firmware to match its hardware (anyone knows?).

i am looking for Android tablet too.My friends suggest me buy a Chinese Brand tablet(Yuandao N90FHDRK ).The 10000mAh Battery Capacity and the Quad Core attracted me.And the Configuration is quite good.(9.7 Inch Android 4.1 Jelly Bean IPS Capacitive Multi-touch Screen 16gb Internet Tablet Quad Core Cortex A9,10000mah Battery Capacity,2048x1536 Resolution,mali-400 Mp GPU Tablet Pc with Rk3066 1.6ghz CPU 2gb Ddr3 RAM Wifi Hdmi with OTG USB Cable)
PIPO M9 or CUBE U30GT2
I bought myself a chinese tablet which is going around under many different names. Freelander PD80 Vogue, Ployer Momo 11 quad, Chinavision Vice, and quite a few other names. Mine is called the Primal P9X.
They are all the same tablet.
Quad core Samsung Exynos 4412 1.4 ghz, 1028 x 720 (or whatever that standard one is), IPS screen, Mali 400 gpu. 2 gb ram, 1 gb internal, 16 gig SD. HDMI out, USB 2.0, extSD.
In short, this thing is a beast and is one of the best purchases ive made in awhile. This post marks the first time on the internet someone is linking all these tablets in one post. I know cause I went on a 24 hour wild goose chase after i accidentlally bootlooped this thing. Primal has no website and thus no firmware, but I was able to find firmware for the PD80 Vogue after i realized it was the same exact tablet. And it worked! also the Framaroot exploits (at least Sam) work on this thing.
I hope to see some development on this/these tablets soon, as they are the best thing coming outta china right now (besides the not-very-good resoltuion). If anyone needs a starting ROM to starting tweaking with, reply here and ill post the link. It was a life saver.

I am not surprised that this is just a re-labled tablet sold under many different brands considering I could not find any information about the manufacturer. I have had my P9x for two weeks now and very happy with the performance and responsiveness of it.
You mentioned finding another rom for it. Was it another ICS rom, or JB? I am interested in going to JB since my Galaxy Note II is already on it.
Anyhow, I found rooting this device to be pretty simple and straightforward. I think there are many options available. I will search for some of these other brands and see what is out there.
These is a thread discussing this on apad forum also so I will watch both of these threads for any updates.
Well it wasn't actually a rom for the primal p9x, it was for one of its clones, the Freelander PD80 Vogue. I bootlooped my p9x after installing something dumb. In an act of desperation I scoured the internet for all its clones and searched for their respective firmwares. The only I ended up findimg was the one I said. So I took the leap of faith and flashed it (put it on sd card, held pwr+vol- at startup) and it worked! Its ICS.
Its nit perfect thougj. The one that shipped with the primal was better. It seemed snappier and didn't have annoying chinese apps. Also the front facing camera seems to not be working. According to apad, a JB fw is coming soon. Eagerly awaiting that.
If you manage to make a dump/nandroid of your stock primal fw I wouldn't mind having a copy

Do any of these tablets have custom roms, or the ability to update to future android releases?
mostly they have no website or future support no?

This is exactly the right question
I have a Cube U9GT2 that I bought a while back. I based that purchasing decision on the community support it had. If you buy a device with kick ass hardware, but no devs behind it then it may end up close to useless. Rather than looking at paper specs check whether there is community support as it is much more critical when dealing with Chinese tablets (no website, no support, etc.). just my 2¢
First of all, let me list my Laptop specs
CPU: 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM (2.40GHz 6MB Cache)
GPU:NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX660M 2GB with DirectX® 11
RAM: 8GB
I heard that the Nvidia shield officially doesn't support Laptop streaming, but has a good and reliable method for supporting streaming been released yet via third party app or something? If so, are there any good guides in order to do so(without screwing up any in the process?) I think i did hear that some laptops with some GPU(that i've never really heard of: Kepler I believe) can support it, but i'm not sure if my Laptop would fill the bill. I think I also heard something about optimus, but i don't even know what that is.

Yea, Nvidia shield game streaing feature is NOT FORMALLY supported by Nvidia at the moment but it may come in near future. however, with the newer mobile GPUS ( keplet architecture based- such as series 600/700 etc) - u can probably try some other third party apps - ' splashtop + Droidmote combination ' - follow this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2506438 .
some i heard tried kainy instead
Am in a similar situation like you with a mobile GPU GTX 680M but i am waiting for my shield to arrive, so can't confirm whether the methods mentioned above are good for smooth gameplay.
I'm not positive this will all still work for you, but cgutman worked on making streaming work from mobile kepler.

OMG!!!! It works. Credit to @cgutman!!!!!
Used the registry entry you provided. I am using a Lenovo Y400, that has the intel GPU disabled. It freaking works!!

I have a Lenovo Y580 which isnt that much different from a 400. So maybe there is hope? Once I get it, i'll test it out, and maybe ask questions to things i dont understand
mobile streaming has been completely halted by nvidia in their latest updates. The only workaround that doesn't involve a 3rd party app (negating the native protocol support between tegra 4 and kepler) is to downgrade and then apply the reg fix. This also only works if you have a sole discrete gpu or can completely shut off optimus in the bios. poopoo to you nvidia.
