Which 64 GB SD Card do you recommend? - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

SanDisk
OR
Samsung
I ask because I see that people have had some trouble with SanDisk and the card would corrupt the data and/or get fried. So if anyone has had any experience with either, it would be greatly appreciated if you could give me some info, thanks!

I've always used SanDisk without an issue.

I am currently using SanDisk 64GB Ultra...

I started out with a Sandisk 64gb ultra and it kept unmounting randomly every so often. I got sick of it (and tried all of the tricks, formatting as FAT etc,etc.etc.still issue)- especially after losing some pics and vids of my son's school awards.
I ended up going with a samsung 64.
I think sandisk is generally good, I've not had any other issues with their cards/flashdrives -so, it could have just been a bad one.
I did get it from Amazon and ended up returning it and got the samsung 64gb instead.
I've have had no issues whatsoever with the Samsung.

Samsung all the way. Using 64gb here, no problems. Just format it in your phone before use and all should be well.
No disrespect to sandisk. But i feel a sammy product would work on point with a sammy device. Good luck

Samsung. Got my 64gb ultra for $60 on black friday. Really happy with it. Its exfat format. So I just reformatted it to fat32 so its compatible with any kernal. Might not be as fast as it could be but as long as it stores my files I'm happy.

From now on I am only going to use genuine SanDisk cards. I've bought a couple of cheap 32gb ones from eBay and you really do get what you pay for. It may be cheap but not worth the loss of data if you load on too much at once etc. Anyone know anywhere I can get a genuine SanDisk a bit cheaper or like I said, is it a case of if you want quality you have to pay top dollar? Thanks in advance.

I had a Sandisk (32GB) and it got fried. Returned it under warranty as I had it under a year and they replaced it for free (just had to pay postage). There were reports of previous models of cards that were faulty and mine may very well have been one of them. I had used it in my HTC sensation prior to my S4 and hadn't formatted before using with my S4. Perhaps a coincidence but I had an issue when creating a nandroid backup and it corrupted shortly after this, so not sure if this was a contributing factor or not. But been using my replacement for the past 4 months without any issues so happy with it.

I had one issue with one 64gb SanDisk. There were known issues early on and SanDisk owned up to it, and they readily replaced cards. My replacement has zero issues. Most of my cards in general are SanDisk with a couple Samsungs.

My S3 killed two SanDisk cards rather quickly so when I got the S4, got a Samsung one instead. Been in use nearly a year and no problems

I'm using the Samsung one and I haven't had any issues at all, I didn't even format it to my phone just inserted and butter. Out of 64 only 58.84 was usable, that normal?

That's a really good sale; kind of overkill for the S4 but probably one of the best cards there is.
16/32/64GB $18/$25/$50

I recommend to skip getting a samsung 64 GB card and stick with the SanDisk Ultra 128 GB Class 10 Micro SDXC. This is the latest, fastest and highest capacity Micro SDXC Class 10 card I've found yet and SanDisk is the only brand to make this capacity compatible with the S4. There are many reports on Amazon that this card DOES work on the S3 and S4. I have the 64 GB version of that SanDisk card and I've never had any problems. I also have about 5 GB's left so I'm happy for now... until I have the 128 GB one! Just so everyone knows... I found it one day on Amazon about 3 weeks ago and they had the 128 GB card for $120. The next day I checked, it had jumped up drastically to $190. Get it while it's hot but watch the item for price drops!!
Oh, there's no such thing as overkill in my opinion. If the rumors are true about the S5 having Dual Micro SD Card slots being capable of reading up to 128 GB's per slot... I'd be more than happy to welcome around 256 GB's for total SD Card memory in my phone. Can you imagine all the porn, dvd movies, android games, old school video game system (NES, Super NES, N64, Sega Genesis, etc) emulated games, PDF files, .ePub/.mobi android books, full series TV shows like Game of Thrones, hundreds of thousands of pics, & as much space for music you could possibly handle?! I can and I want one!

Kingston SD cards

Has anyone here had any experience with kingston sd cards? Just bought a class 4 16g card from newegg for 35 including shipping.. The reviews were pretty good and I know theyre a pretty big company so I think i'll be ok but wanted to see if anyone here could confirm or deny this
*I'm just sayin...
ive got a pny 16 gig, and it works great. i know kingston makes good ram, so id imagine that a kingston sd card would be worth its money, and i cant see a big brand memory product being garbage, especially in 2011. that price is a win no matter what though.
How much was the card? I would love a bigger card. And what did y'all do to transfer memory from one card to the next?

If you have the moola, get this from Newegg, it's Class 10 so faster speed
WINTEC 32GB Micro SDHC FileMate Mobile Professional SDHC Model 3FMUSD32GBC10-R
It's around $82.49 with free shipping.
I've read a few reviews on Wintec cards, and not a lot of them are good. They work fine at first, then start to degrade quickly. To top it off, people say that when they try to get it replaced through Wintec, Wintec claims that its user error or abuse.

He said in the OP that its $35 and free shipping.
I have 16GB for two years already and now i bought 32 gb ... both are working well so far.
16gb are going from $22-$35 shipped right now - class 10 speeds. Pick one up if you are using the stock 8gb. I just ordered one myself.
I've used two different Kingston SD Cards. They worked well for me without any issues. My previous was an 8gb Kingston class 4 and I currently have a Kingston 16gb Class 4 card.
The 8GB is nearly 2 years old and is working just fine. Have used it in multiple cell phones and currently serves as a flash drive for work using an adapter. The 16gb works just as well with some added space.

I bought a Kingston 8GB Class 4 MicroSDHC for my previous phone, the Nexus One, a year ago and I was very satisfied with it. It's way cheaper than the Sandisks and it works great so yeah, highly recommended!

From my experience I would have to agree on the class. To be honest, I think even a quality class 2 card would do just fine on a mobile device.
The class is an indication of the minimum Write Speed (class 4 = 4mb/s class 6 = 6mb/s, etc) The Read speed is generally much higher than that, so even if you are running applications from the SD card, performance shouldn't be hindered by a lower class card.
The only instance I can think of that performance would be affected is if you record a lot of 720P video with your phone. In that case, a faster write speed *Should* help with stuttering issues.
Now if we were talking about a high end SLR camera, then hell yes, speed makes a huge difference. I run a Kingston Class 6 in my SLR and it handles everything just fine, including HD video.
Just my 2 cents...
Well,
What it really comes down to is how fast the SD card adapter is in our phones, which I haven't figured out yet. If it'll fully utilize a class 10 card in terms of max write speed, then I would totally go for a class 10 card.
Can anyone verify the max speed our phones could support? (No guesses, please)
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I like Samsung cards personally. The performance has always been well above it's rated speed, and I've never had one corrupt/fail on me.

Must have been a promotion. My shipping was free. ANd to update everyone else it works like a charm. Dont really notice anything as far as normal phone function because I dont store apps on SD but My Titanium, Nandroid, and Just general SD backups to the PC are noticably faster.
Kingston is dead to me...
So, used to be a big proponent of Kingston, but they've seriously slipped over the last couple years (and not just flash, I've had major problems with their desktop memory, too, but that's a story for another forum). I bought the SDC4/32GB from Newegg. Supposed to be 32GB class 4 card. Wow. First one they sent wrote at 2MBps, read at 3MBps. Sent it in for a replacement, and I got one that wrote at 3MBps and read at 3.5MBps. Tried formatting it with my phone, with the official sdformatter utility, with Windows, with Linux, nothing helped. Third replacement was back down to 2/3MBps. Hardly class 4. And no, it wasn't my device or anything like that. I've got an actual class 4 8GB Sandisk card that came stock with my phone, and it does 5/7MBps on the same devices on which I tested the Kingston. And the Sandisk can record 720p without stuttering. Recordings from the Kingston were like watching a slideshow.
Very much done with that. Sent it back (again), got a refund, and now I've ordered that class 10 Wintec 32GB. Curious to see how it performs, and I'll stress it right away to see how it handles in the long run (do a bunch of writes and reads the first week to make sure it won't crap out right away). I'll report back here with my results, but they can't be worse than the Kingston. And from what I've read, it may be hit or miss, but when I get a hit, it'll be a class 10!

Q: Large micro SDHC Cards

Hello guys and gals,
I am starting to feel the pinch with an 8 Gb memory card and wondered if anyone had found a good, cheap and compatible 16 or 32 Gb micro SD cards for the Desire S.
EBay seems to have some 32gb cards for about 10 GBP which sounds insane.
Anyone got a suggestion for this UK Desire S user?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
You don't want a cheap one, spend those 30€ on a class 10 card. It's well worth it its faster and will probably not die on u as some cheap one might.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
Do NOT buy cards from ebay. They will always be fake, when they arrive they will say 32gb but if you perform a scan with a tool it shows its actual capacity to be 1gb! Don't fall for it like I did!
Just use google shopping and search for the cheapest price for a memory card from a reputable site.
In fact, I see you're in the UK and theres a good deal on from play:
http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/16710254/Lexar-16GB-Micro-SDHC-Memory-Card-Class-4/Product.html
I bought a 16GB class 6 about half a year ago for £18 so this is a pretty good deal.
From experience classes dont make much of a difference at all, maybe miniscule. This card comes with a 5 year warranty so no need to worry about it dying on you.
I ordered a 16gb class 10 y/day from play for £17.99 It's Pny but will do the job
Cheers for the replies. I thought eBay would have been a rip but you never know with that place, some crazy deals happen and we miss them because we fear them (and quite rightly 99% of the time).
Might pounce on the 16 Gb Class 10 from Play.com.
Anyone know if the Desire S can take 32Gb cards and are there any good deals on those? Best I've found is £38, give or take pennies.
Far as I know yeah it can handle a 32gb
Yes, it can! =)
Mine is MicroSDHC 32GB Transcend Class4 (TS32GUSDHC4). Works good.
I got my 16 Gb today and its working fine
Did anyone tested an A-DATA / KINGMAX 16GB, class 10?
I got a scandisk 16gb.. works great!

bought a sandisk 16gb class 4, everything is running fast and without problems, don't know if you would "feel" a higher class at all
I spent a lot of time looking on the 'net for a reasonable price 32GB card.
Saw plenty on Ebay but many looked untrustworthy (had a bad experience before!)
Eventually collected a 32GB Class 4 card for £35 from Novatech, local to me.
The Novatech card I got turned out to be Integral brand with 5 year warranty.
It's actually a Toshiba manufactured card made in Japan, so I'm happy with it.
The camcorder app seems to work better with the Class 4 card than it did with the supplied Samsung 8GB Class 2.
I bought Toshiba 16gb class 4 and it is good working.
Been using a 16 GB Class IV Transcend Micro SD card, everythings been peachy so far. Finding a legit 32 GB Class IV Micro sd card is so hard here in my neck of the woods.

I have the SanDisk Ultra 64 and its been nothing but problems. It will randomly corrupt files on my card, deletes all pics and videos and randomly unmounts. Have no idea what the issue is. The only way to get it to work again is copy what I can to my external hdd. Then reformat the card. it works for a couple weeks, then it does it again.
Unfortunately Amazon had no return policy on this card. I've been thinking of just ordering another or trying a Samsung card. But I thought SanDisk was the company to go with the memory card game. Who knew.
Anybody have issues with the Samsung card??

Sandisk are a company that market well and rely on people getting suckered into the branding and marketing. The actual card themselves are very poor quality and majority of people will opt against using them in electronics.

Its just from my personal experience I guess. You can give them a shot, its not a guarantee that yours will act the same as mine. Currently I use Lexar class 10 working very good
I am RMAing my 32gig Ultra as I type this... I'm hoping the replacement is more reliable...
i guess to each their own, i think it's a bit much to define the cards are very poor quality though. the company offers a lifetime warranty on their microsd cards, is ranked #1 and #3 in their respective category (32 and 64gb) on amazon and reviews overall are positive (2400+ reviews). yes, there are those that have had issues with them, but the same can be said about just about all of the other companies.
Add me to the list of people who have always used SanDisk in phones and never had a problem.
I have been using sandisk cards for quite some time now and never had any issues with any of them.

Sandisk 64GB Micro SD card issues

I bout a 64GB card back in Jan for my S3. I put it in the S4 as soon as I got it. They card failed several times over the last few months and then just gave out completely. So I got a replacement card last week. One thing I noticed is the lag time when in my gallery with opening picture folders. Is there anything I can do to speed up the load time?
The card is a Sandisk 64GB Ultra (DSSDQU-064G,ULTRA USD, UHS/U1)
I know this isn't a particularly helpful post, but I had the exact same issue - my card kept on failing for no reason and throwing up random error messages.
My solution was that I just gave up on SanDisk. I bought a 64gb sd card from Samsung a couple days ago.
TBH, I've grown really tired of SanDisk over the last few years. I always had some kinda issue with their stuff, and I found their aftercare was rubbish. To me Samsung is more respectable. And am happy I've now switched loyalties.

Any ideas???
This lag is killing me
The gallery app on the S4 performs very poorly on my phone and my wife's, especially when there are a lot of pictures. One of the first things we did after getting our phones was switch our gallery app to Quickpic. No more lag.
I've owned 2 Sandisc 64GB ultra 10 class, the first no longer works at all, the second quite often refuses to allow me to copy anything to it. Both are official, both purchased from different companies. Both tested in Galaxy s2 and S4 with same results. Both tried with fat32 and with exfat (on Pac rom which supports exfat). Also when removed from phone and plugged into pc directly, I can copy files across, as long as I don't copy too much at once or eventually it fails the copy and stops.
Even the Samsung ones are dodgy, buy transcend or Kingston or something. I had 1 SanDisk fail, bought a Samsung with refund which failed too. And my new Samsung freezes quite often when downloading torrents, which I'm guessing shouldn't be happening either. All these 64gb cards are dodgy as hell, go figure.
guys sandisk knows about issues with 32 and 64g cards and will refund or replace it, sandisk has a live chat that will get you all fixed up. they sent me a printable ups label next day after "chat" and then you send card back and new one is sent next day air, i bought mine off amazon but i dont thin it matters where you got it. there is a 5yr guarantee on there cards, please give it a try. hope this helps someone out.

Just throwing in my 2 cents. My Transcend died after 2 weeks. My replacement died after 4 weeks. Been having good luck with my Samsung 64 gb card.
Although in my old Xperia Play, I had a 64 gb Sandisk card that had no issues.

I bought my Sandisk 64Gb class 10 1 month ago, exfat formatted, works without any problems.
I bought my SanDisk 64GB C10 UHS1 30MB/s edition microSDXC Ultra a few weeks back...I know I've had it only for a short time, but still....nothing so far.
Also read an article dated ~march, where sandisk said that they know there was a problem that it had already been fixed - and that the problem was with 32 and 64GB mobile ultra cards.....so the newer ultra cards should be ok...
Just wanna throw this out there... The kernel you guys run may have affected the card too. I have switched around a few kernel and I find that the Bioshock kernel doesn't force dismount my SD card anymore. Now I'm testing Infamous, and will have to see.
EDIT: I'm using this card http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B005V7WIA2
EDIT2: I just realize this isn't the T-Mobile S4 section, so to clarify, I'm using the US T-Mobile S4.
Nearly all the tech shops in hong kong and many in the uk avoid Sandisk at all costs, apart from marketing well the parts inside are not all that great and you are paying extra for that marketing stuff.
The only issue with a Sandisk 64GB card I ever came across was that formatting one to exFat would cause a bootloop. Since none of the files on my card are over 4GB anyway, I'm keeping the card at Fat32.

I'm getting fed up with the dismounts, this card (64GB) is a pain in the arse and I don't get why this is a problem, it's not like it's new technology FFS !
I'm going to reformat one more time and if this continues it's going back.
