My Note 10.1 is having a weird issue with the colours on the screen. Basically one day it started displaying the sort of screen corruption and visual artifacts you normally get when you overclock a video card too much or your SLI cable isn't in properly. The corruption occurs during normal operation, during the boot logo and even in download and recovery mode. A firmware reflash had no effect. If I take a screenshot, the screen looks like it should (i.e. it's not in negative mode and the system thinks it's displaying the colours normally). I'm thinking at this stage either the screen itself somehow got damaged, though I'm not sure how, or a cable has come loose/been damaged somewhere. Has anyone seen this before or have an idea as to what is likely causing it?

It happened suddenly, one minute it was perfect the next day it looked like the picture. I'm thinking it's just a lose video cable, either that or one of the colour channels/polarizer is missing. I just realised that Samsung has a two year warranty though, so hopefully the repair is free, assuming they don't try to pin the blame on me.

I'm actually asking if this problem comes suddenly one day or keep occurring more and more...
I guess it might be problem of the battery, since it occurs less when it is fully charged or highly charged. Yeah, we know Samsung is notorious in bad battery quality

A few weeks ago my Sensation screen turned to colorful pixel snow. After opening the sense lock ring and flipping the main screen for a few times it became ok. A week later it went back to the snowy screen permanently.
I went to recovery and re installed the Rom (revolution 6.80) and the problem was solved. A week later I got the snowy screen back, but now the snow appears the very first moment the device is powered on.
Due to the face I had airdroid on the device I managed to connect it to the computer and see the mobile screen on the computer and it looked as if everything is ok, I could see the sense and all the screens and operate all the applications by looking at the computer and touching the snowy screen.
I bought a new screen and connected it instead the original and I still got snow....so I know it's not a screen problem.
I do not have warranty on the device and local labs will charge half the price of the device for fixing it, so I prefer to find out what's the problem and but the parts myself and replace them.
Anyone has any experience with such a problem and fixing it?
Thanks a lot
Try using a blower, those that people use to blow off dust, blow off every spec of dust you can see on your device, clean the connectors of the screen too.
Then, try installing a rom which is not ARHD, and test it out. If all these doesnt work, it might be your GPU hardware is faulty.
I already cleaned all the connection and checked that everything is connected correctly but it didn't help.
Do you know where the gpu seats? maybe if I knew what it looks like i could check problems around it or replace it.
No one knows how to solve the snow problem? :crying:
That's it? the device is dead? I used it only for one year...
Can you take a photo of it and post it?

I'm also having the same snow problem on my HTC Amaze, for the above i assume there's no fix to this as i was about to purchase a new screen.
This phone is a complete lemon so perhaps it's a blessing
Seen that 2 days ago at a friends phone. No solution oder fix for that?
Hi,
I got this weird problem and im not sure is this a hardware problem or not. For example. when using menus with white background, the background goes partly blue. Sometimes the graphic error is only blue lines in some part of the white background.
but when checking one option in same menu the background turns normal or atleast there is some change in the background. So these errors reacts only when changing options. And theyre always in the same position when going the same menu.
Also when using camera. the view is messed up a bit. there is a clear line somewhere in the picture when going dark to bright. With my english its hard to explain especially when i dont have any idea what is causing this problem.
Below are two attachments that explains the problem much clearer than i can write:

And before you ask. Yes, it has dropped and i have replaced the glass. But i got it with broken glass so i dont know was it like this before it dropped and the previus owner couldnt tell either.
Any possible solutions?
Thank you in advance!
Sounds like a hardware issue, just for the heck of it I would open it up and check the ribbon cable to the digitizer/screen, it could be loose.
Pp.
Checked it. Same problem. Tried to change brightness level, hard reset, rooting etc with no luck.
Its just so weird that in some situations the screen looks totally normal. only these few situations cause errors in the screen.
Hmmm, there are dialer codes that are used on phones that run a series of tests to check screen performance and output, don't know if this can be done on a tablet, but I would research it.
The only other time I heard of this was on a phone that recovered from falling in a toilet, the phone was dismantled and cleaned and assembled and it worked fine for over a year, the only glitch was an occasional color spasm on the screen similar to what you discribe.
Pp.
Thanks for the tip! Need to look for those codes when i get back home. I removed the logic board and cleaned it with denat. alcohol. No visible damage at least! trying to assembly it back later today. I decided to order a new LCD flex cable. Its the cheapest part to change.
No luck with the codes i found. after cleaning still same graphical problems. Now i can only wait the new flex cable and hope it will fix those errors.
Anyways thanks for replys and suggestions. :good:
HI Guys,
Just bought my Galaxy S8+ and unluckily, i have come across some color spots and grain spots on my Galaxy S8, which is visible in the Dark.
Kindly find attached the pictures, i have taken in the dark with another mobile and help me to analyze is this a real defect that i should worry about or is it same to all of you.
If yes, I' am gonna take it to the service center and let them do a refund or exchange with a proper one!
Feeling disappointing !

Is this a joke?
Hi There,
This is not a joke, this is of concern.!
Kindly check if you have same device and let me know if you face similar issues with the reference to above-mentioned color spots.
I dont see anything mate, sorry.
Hey Mate,
Difficult to see indeed. But is it there, can't screen it better as this is all in done in dark room where light is switched off.
Please also ensure to use the same THEME/WALLPAPER as Samsung has its Default. Mostly it is visible on this theme.
If nothing then it means it is a problem of my S8+ and i have to return or exchange it.
Those screen spots are your time/date widget and your edge UI tab. On the power menu you simply get a opaque image of whatever is was on your screen beforehand. I've been staring at these pics for 10 minutes all up now and I honestly reckon you're over thinking it. Put the microscope away and enjoy the phone bud!
I don't see it clearly. Maybe its a burn-in issue? Nahh, it's too early to tell. Try changing your screen resolution if it's still there.
Thanks guy for your encouraging messages
I have changed display and it is still same, however what i did is that i have change Theme and it has better results now. I need to ensure i am wrong and not overthinking of it too much. Hence i have taken this to the shop where i bought it and they confirmed the same. Gonna take it to the repair service and let them check from their end.
In case this will be defect, Samsung needs to really worry about this!
It's native blur
Is it all same at your end ?

Your post is really confusing and I can't tell if you're trolling. In the first picture you posted, you literally circled two UI elements (a clock and two icons) and then said they are "grain spots." They aren't "grain spots." It's literally the exact same clock and two icons shown in your second picture, but they are blurry because (1) you opened the shutdown menu, which blurs whatever is in the background, and (2) you made it even blurrier by taking a blurry picture. Seriously, what are you trying to say with your first picture?
In the second and third pictures, I don't know what you're trying to circle. If the issue goes away when you apply another theme, I'm guessing you are seeing variations that are inherent to the actual wallpaper itself.
Finally, what do you mean by "I have changed display." Do you mean the wallpaper? Or do you mean the digitizer itself? Or do you mean the phone as a whole? If it's either of the latter two, then the problem is with the wallpaper that you're using.
If you're talking about the blotches on say, this power menu, they are all normal, part of the blue view.
Hi Guys,
I have checked two other phones as well. All of them had similar Grains visibility in the dark area/with no light.
It is impossible to take pictures in the dark without flat and make sure it is visible.
Anyhow, i am gonna keep observing and see if this blotches will increase. By Changing display, i meant i have change SCREEN RESOLUTION from the highest to the standard one and still it has similar results.
Last but not least, i have change theme and the issue is more or less gone.
Mine is really bad. I haven't seen this since the Galaxy s2 TMobile variant.
The whole top right corner is red as well. Sure the update helps mask it, but with blue light filter turned on, it's there.
They assume to prevent this from further update which is going to be patched soon

Any hint about this issue? can't access anything else, the phone is stuck on that screen shape and mode. Tried to reboot and wipe cache already...

Did you ever figure this out? I have a customer's Honor 8 in my repair shop, and it did this as soon as I put the new screen on, and I haven't gotten it out of this mode since, even with the old screen. I've been looking everywhere, but it seems to be a somewhat uncommon problem.

Yeah, I couldn't find anything about this issue on honor 8. I did find people with a similar problem on Galaxy S7 and they said that was because there is a magnet on those smart flip covers and if you're using a fake one or a bad quality one, the magnet might mess up some connection or the sensor under the display... but it sounds very unlikely to me, because any other stronger magnet would be able to cause the same issue then... like even something on your purse/backpack.
Well, but coming back to my device, for some reason the screen is normal again today. I woke up this morning and it was working normally. I called huawei support today because the phone is on the warranty period and had just came back from a screen replacement. So I figured this screen issue was in fact related to some bad connection after the screen replacement. But after I reported them the whole story, I was instructed by the Huawei support to use it and test it during the weekend, because it doesn't sound like a bad connection or malfunctioning since now it's working fine.
What I did yesterday was to turn the phone off (btw, while I had this screen issue, I couldn't actually turn it off... everytime I tried it, the phone rebooted automatically)... so... I turned it off and on again but on the safe mode (press and hold volume down as soon as you see the "H" from honor). I tought the safe mode could help, but it didn't change anything on the screen. Then, still on the safe mode I plugged the phone on my laptop to do a backup on HiSuite and then be able to do a factory reset... I thought this was another option to solve the screen issue, but I never concluded this operation because my laptop was also having some problems (not a lucky day for me hehe).. so in the end I just left the phone on safe mode and connected to the laptop to charge over night... I woke up a few hours later, the battery was on 100%, the safe mode was on, and also the screen was on and on full mode - showing the last notifications from apps... I went to the configurations immediately and turned off the smart cover mode. All my apps icons were disorganized... I organized everything again and decided to turn on the smart cover mode to try it out... it happens it's working fine since this morning even on the smart cover mode.
I really don't know what happened and neither how it got fixed..
The only reasonable thing I can consider to have caused this issue besides the magnet sensor or a software bug, is that I had some lock screen wallpapers saved to my SD card, which is slow speed. That might have caused some conflict when I opened the flip cover. When you open the flip cover, one of the wallpapers should appear, so maybe the phone had a hard time trying to read the file from the sd card and the screen was stuck... I did try to solve the issue by removing the sd card but nothing happened, so I honestly don't know...
Actually i had a different issue about the flip cover. When i was calling someone, even when the call was closed, the status bar remained Green with the call screen still open. Now after a reset the bug is gone. The strange thing on your problem is that's caused by the Honor cover and not by a chinese one..
Hello everyone, this is my first post in xda so I apologize if there's any error.
Everything started a couple of days ago, when I found a stuck pixel on my s6 AMOLED display. I had this phone for over a year now, and it always worked flawlessly. I installed some apps to fix this stuck pixel (it was kinda red) and first I spotted some new ones across the screen, but then after a couple of tries they disappeared. Next day in the morning, I wake up to see that my screen is kind of yellowish tinted, whites are not white but more like yellow and what bothers me the most, blacks are no longer pure black, because they have back light like if it was an LCD instead of an AMOLED.
I tried lots of things and realized that when the screen is displaying mostly white colors it seems to be alright, but if something dark appears everything automatically switches to this yellowish tint.
I already:
Wiped cache
Factory reset
tried with some "Burn in Fix" apps
Changed display mode
with no luck.
I found out that even in the boot logo and in recovery the problem persists.
I'm running 7.0 Stock, no root, no recent drops / water drops.
Please, help me, I miss my old gorgeous display :c
Some images of my problem:
This is what a pure Black wallpaper looks like:

I'm going crazy, does anyone have an idea of what could be happening ?
Your display seems to have degraded. I recently sold my 2.5yr old S6 which was fine as far as display is concerned; your issue seems to be rather strange for just a year old device. Do you by chance regularly use very high brightness level?
I don't have any solution that I can think of; but curious to understand the cause.
On a side note though, see if Samsung Service Centre is ready to take a look at your device and fix it (if this is due to any display connectors being lose)

Hello, and sorry for the delay, strangely i haven't got any notifications about this topic so i thought no one replied.
I regularly use medium to low brightness level, but now that I have this problem I have to use it on high or max because otherwise its hard to see anything, especially while reading.

It's highly likely that your display/display connector has gone wrong. Visit Samsung Service Centre to get it checked; they will check for free and quote you for repairs if it is something that can not be fixed without parts replacement.
