I've bought the Moto G about a week ago, but from Vodafone at £100, which unfortunately means its locked to the Vodafone network. I've purchased the unlock code, but I can only get the prompt on the stock ROM - inserting the foreign sim and rebooting on CM does nothing (where on stock it would show an unlock prompt)
The unlock code hasn't been sent yet, so my phone is just sitting doing nothing, as there is npo use customising and installing where I will just flash CM over it anyway.
So, is there some way to force the prompt on CM? Maybe there's a number I can dial ("*#etc#*...")?
Thanks

Hi folks... im a bit of a noob when it comes to phones...basically my Three contract finished today and I inserted my new GiffGaff sim...only to get the Sim Network Unlock Pin....I searched around on here and found the way to get the code using the terminal emulator and the imie code.
I put the 8 digit code in...and got the message Network Unlock Successful .... but I still have no network signal....I rebooted the phone and I kept getting Sim network unlock pin - screen. put the code in....successful...etc.
My next option was moving from cyanogenmod 10.1 to the latest CyanogenMod 11 - Android 4.4.2 - KitKat .... installed fine...but on boot up I still get the unlock pin screen....enter code...unlock successful....no signal ...and back to square one.
does anybody have a way to unlock this?
pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I have a 16 GB Tesco UK Moto G that is locked, and I want to unlock it. But when I insert a foreign SIM (from O2 Ireland) I get no prompt for an unlock code. Instead it just says "Emergency calls only." I've contacted several of the online unlock code suppliers and they could not find unlock code in their database but then I have paid for more expensive code from Simon Green on ebay and he sent me that unlock code. I am on GPE 4.4.4 and UK tesco SIM is working fine but I am getting Emergency calls only with every other SIM card. I have tried 3 different SIM cards from different providers and they work fine in my second Moto G. Is there some way I can get this phone unlocked ?
maybe using stock rom from carrier or stock motorolo rom
or put another sim and wike data to see what happens
i really don´t know
i unlocked my moto g using stock 4.4.2 motorola at the time
Hey guys,
I have a situation with my HTC 10. I have unlocked bootloader, and S-off via sunshine and installed Viper10. I recently purchased network unlock codes from HTCUnlockingservice.com but it wouldn't work when I restarted the phone with Verizon sim, so I had to go back to stock T-Mobile RUU. But I have the same problem, when I insert a foreign sim it doesn't promp me to enter unlock codes, instead I have a sim-lock icon in my status bar. The TMobile Device unlock App doesn't work either (it used to say incompatible with Viper10, now it says "failure in processing request. please reboot device and try again").
Can someone help me find a way around it ??
Is there a *# sequence to prompt unlock code entry ?? something like the *#06# is ed for IMEI...
Please help, going crazy over here
thanks
Sooo,
I bought a used vodafone moto g 1st gen naively expecting to have an easy sim-unlock available in the forums - maybe I haven't found it yet?
The online unlock code vendors I tried have refunded me saying they can't do my IMEI so I'm a bit stuck.
I flashed cyanogen hoping a new kernel would do the magic but I guess the simlock is in a different partition?
I see that a couple years ago http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2903823 some were considering how the sim unlock modified the utag partitions. Does anyone know of further progress, information or solutions to sim unlock a moto g?
Or has anyone found a vendor that has successfully provided a UK vodafone sim unlock code?
P.S. Will I need to revert to the stock rom and kernel to use a sim unlock code?
The official Vodafone UK unlock service should work: https://www.vodafone.co.uk/vodafone-uk/forms/unlock-code-request/
Thanks Professor Gibbins.
Unfortunately the Vodafone unlock process asks for the vodafone number that has been used with the phone. Perhaps it would work if I got a pay-as-you go SIM from them and then provided that number.
Fortunately I tried paying a third unlock code vendor - sim-unlock*.net - waited a couple days and they came through with a valid code. I had started with the cheapest ebay vendors, so maybe they just weren't legit?
In any case, if someone else is in similar circumstances, here's what I learned:
There doesn't seem to be any other solution for sim unlocking the moto G xt1032 than purchasing an unlock code from an online vendor or, in the case of you being the original owner, from the network you purchased the phone from
Having a couple online vendors say they cannot get you the code does not mean another cannot
Neither unlocking the bootloader, installing a different recovery (TWRP), nor flashing a Cyanogen ROM will help Sim unlock the phone
The code provided by the online vendor did not work when I had Cyanogen installed. Fortunately I had created a backup of the vodafone ROM (using TWRP) and restoring their android version/kernel allowed the code purchased online to sim unlock the phone
Finally, the SIM unlock done in the vodafone system was maintained after restoring my Cyanogen install. I hope this means the sim/network lock will not return. It might perhaps resurface if I did a system restore; hopefully then the same unlock code would work again?

Once the unlock is done via an UNLOCK CODE, or via hardware unlocking tools, then it is permanent, so you shouldn't need to worry about this at all, but that said, in case you experience SIM un-/lock issues, then reuse the code when trying to unlock the phone on an OEM-DISTRIBUTED ROM (stock ROM).
I bought a Moto G 7 from T-Mobile 5 months ago, but now I'm travelling abroad and can't use any local sim card because its sim locked and T-Mobile's won't unlock it for me. Is there any way to bypass that application?
When I insert the new sim card I get a screen saying that I can unlock it remotely (it is denied on that app). All I need to how to type the code to unlock it.

Hello. I`ll use this thread because of I have same issue. I flashed my metropcs with retail firmware and now it prompts me for code. Is it possible to be unlocked in that way?
So, just an update: I managed to replace the moto g power os, so now I have it debranded but it keeps asking for a code to unlock the sim card. I bought the Pantech UCC 2.0 (which was supposed to generate the code) but it didn't work. So now I'm looking for something to generate that code
If anyone got any tool or device that generates that for the moto g 7 power please let me know.

I`m in the same situation. But I`m even not sure that will evade the original unlock app.

After the debranding (installing the original os) the unlock app is no longer avaiable, so I get the default window asking for the code. Thing is I don't have the code

I mean I`m not sure that it is possible this phone to be unlocked by code since originally it is implemented to be unlocked by app.
I do believe it is possible since its the same screen I've seen on so many other apps. The unlock app was a mod Tmobile delivered with the version of the android operating system. When I replaced it, it went back to the default screen, so all I need now is a way to generate that code, it seems
