[HELP] Think I just screwed my Nexus 5 screen (or almost) - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HELP ME GUYS, I was just installing the damn skinomi screen protector (I hate it now BTW) and after leaving my phone rest over the night so that the installation liquid evaporates.
And this morning I noticed something weird on the screen, IT WORKS PERFECTLY, THE DIGITIZER WORKS, but I thought it was remains of the liquid between the screen protector and the screen itself. I removed the screen protector 'cause it didn't feel right AND SURPRISE THE STRANGE THINGS ARE ON THE SCREEN (OR BELOW IT).
Here's an image of how my screen looks now. What do you think happened? will it disappear? What do you recommend?
PD: I'll never install a liquid installation screen protector. and just to be clear i just poured liquid on the sticky side of the f*cking skinomi I never let my screen get wet.

Did you try wiping it hard with a moist cloth may be?
Looks like the screen protector removed the oleophobic coating of the LCD...
BTW, which browser is it that you're using? Love the chrome tab style interface...

Looks like the oleophobic coating got fūcked. Wipe it with a microfibre and some LCD cleaning solution and see if it helps.

That's dolphin browser.
Try wiping it with LCD cleaning liquid.
Was your phone off overnight?
And the liquids usually need to go on the device themselves and not the protective sheet.
Next time go with spigen.
Glass screen protectors ftw.

Thanks guys, but wiping with a microfiber cloth doesn't seem to work.
Yes the phone was off during the night.
This is really ironic, the entire toych screen works but those ugly stains makes the experience really annoying

I actually get more of a feel as if the marks were caused when you were squeegee-ing out the extra liquid... The perfectly parallel lines give more than impression... And the fact that on the left the lines are at a different angle, and on the right at a different angle...
I've never had any problems with my wet screen protectors... But then again... Iv never used skinomi...

Id email those pics to skinomi and throw a fit over it. Thats crazy.

Hmm - the screen protectors that I've used in the past have always recommended applying the liquid on the screen protector (not onto the screen)

Actually, I'll do that, F'ck Skinomi screwed my phone's beaty

As has been said the directional state of the marks point to pressure damage. Go with Spiegen glass as someone said. I swear by them, and their cases.
If you have any of the liquid left I'd put it on a cloth and gently rub. That may be dry residue. Hard to tell. If it is adding some more in liquid form should remove it. I've never heard of it removing the oleophobic coat as it's very tough

Recommend a washable screen protector

So I've been using a Boxwave ClearTouch Crystal screen protector for the last few months, and have really been liking it. Recently though the screen has felt a bit rough so I decided to take it off and wash it under soap and water. This worked well, and it feels a lot better, however I have got a load of bubbles under the screen that I can't seem to get out. I think some dust may have settled on it while it was drying.
As such I'm looking for recommendations for a better screen protected, that is washable
I would just get an invisible shield.
They pwn in every way, just wipe them down with a damp rag and you're done.

... Why would you remove the screen protector??? The "washable" bit is pretty much nonsense, mainly means that they aren't just a sticker you can't get wet IMO. Doesn't mean you can really take them off the phone multiple times.
I use an alcohol based wipe to clean mine, stays on the phone and squeaky clean.
I decided to order a Proporta screen protector, so I'll let you all know what that is like when I get it (and this time won't take it off!).

Washable screen protectors allow your entire phone to go in the wash with the rest of your clothes.
I just toss my N1 on my plate when im done eating., and my wife picks it up and washes it in the sink with the rest of the dishes.
Life is good.

Awesome.. We already have "dunked in beer", "swam with phone in pocket", "caught in a heavy rain storm" and random other water intrusion posts.. Now we'll have "washed in pants to get dust out of screen" posts.
I use the clarivue screen protector. Its static based instead of adhesive based so you can remove it, wash it, and toss it back on. Though in all honesty, why? I mean, the part absinthe the phone screen never gets dirty for me. Just wipe down the front and be on your way...lol. I love the clarivue though, I always forget I have a protector on and it was easy to get bubbles out because you can easily peel off and retry without issue.
Use scotch tape to remove dust.
So I received the Proporta Advanced Screen Protector, and well, its rubbish. It makes the screen look really bad and refracts all the pixels (I had the same with Zagg shields).
I'm debating whether to get another Boxwave protector or the Clarivue one?

Screen Protector - Matt one or glossy one?

Hi, have any one try a Matt Screen Protector on DHD? I'm interested in the Matt one but afraid that the color would be distorted/dimmed too much... Any suggestion? Thanks!
I installed the Martin Fields protector, and the picture is like before the install, no blurryness or anything. Crisp and clear.
I can highly recommend it, and no worries about any airbubbles with MartinFields

has your DHD got a matte screen?
I got a matte one from a Japanese company (Sanwa). It very slightly reduces crispness but feels smooth as silk even when my finger is a bit tacky.
actually the matte or anti fingerprint really diminishes the screens colors and brightness. it will do injustice to your phone but no more wiping due to greasy fingers.
So does anyone know any good matt screen protectors?
Gotta comment again about my MartinFields, u get bubbles if u have some crap between screen and the protector it took me about 20min to install it perfecly, always some crap on the screen and had to use scotchtape to remove them or just not inline with the screen. But i got and worth the time the protector has a rly good feel to it, and even with sticky fingers no problem at all, fingers glides rly good. Almost as no protector at all fingerprints show only when screen is off. Recommended.

Firstly:
I have used a matte protector, it really messes with the colors, whites end up "rainbowed" etc. It feels much nicer though, so weigh up what is most important to you. Personally i dont use a matte one any more.
Secondly, i think these martin fields screen protectors are a complete rip off. I have tried many brands, and frankly you can pick up a pack of 10 on ebay for a few pounds, they fit well and if you install them correctly they are invisible.
I dont see how the Martin Fields protectors are superior, the ebay cheapies do NOT dim the screen.

I had a matt 'anti-glare' protector from Brando but have replaced it with a cheap one that came free with a charger.
Why? Because..
a) it reduced the visibility of the screen in any light and washed out the colours and diminished sharpness of the screen,
b) the anti-glare didn't get rid of all the glare so it was still hard to read in bright light, and
c) when I tried to remove it to put on a replacement DHD I found that it was impossible to clean properly, and I couldn't remove all of the bubbles, and it also creased very easily.
Once creased it couldn't be straightened, so I threw it away.

I've just gone back to a glossy screen protector due to the rainbow effect and reduced sharpness of the matte screen protector.

the best way to instal screen protectors / body shields is in a steamy enviroment, i always have a shower then clean the screen and instal, never have any dust etc get under the screens this way.. The steam pull all the dust out of the air!!.

if you are worried about sticky fingers try rubbing some wd40 oil onto a glossy screen protector, works a trick as wd40 is oleophobic
I ripped my martin fields one somehow, its been on for about 3 weeks and it has a cut in it D:
Wonder if they will replace it :O
used matt and clear. Using clear one now. Crisp & clear is more important than anti fingerprint & anti glare.

I went daft and got a mirror protector problem it not so clear and it makes the screen go funny colours
E=Mc2
I would like to get a matte protector, because the glare from the sun gets annoying when i have my screen on lowest brightness (which is most the time) though I don't want to loose crispness. So still not sure which one i'd go for

wow does this really work? would it stay on the screen and not come off your fingers? got some wd40 at home might just give it a shot.

Screen protectors made by HTC

Anyone used the genuine screen protectors made by HTC?
Can get a pack of 2 for around £5.
Cant find any reviews of them on this forum. Are they any good?
I've bought a pack and applied one of them directly after taking the DZ out of its box.
Installation was pretty easy, the protector is cut very well and I haven't had any problems since then.
Highly recommended!

Do fingerprints stay on the screen? I've applied a cheap screen protector but I don't like it because fingerprints are very visible after I have used it and there remains a "greasy" layer unless I clean it with a cloth.

That's because you need to WASH YOUR HANDS.
The grease comes from your hands.

I DO WASH MY HANDS.
However, there remains a greasy layer on the screen protector. I can only assume it is due to the material the protector is made of. There is no greasy layer when using the phone without the protector on.

used 95% alcohol to clean the screen

read that its bad to do this after i already did it. i did it because i had a screen protector on there, one of those adhesive kinds and it left a sticky residue on the screen so i tried using alcohol to get it off but i couldn't. i heard they have some anti oil surface on these touch screens that gets damaged by alcohol? So is my new phone screwed by the alcohol and how do i get this sticky stuff off.
This is kind of off topic, but Copenhagen snuff ruined my G2x's screen. It took me a few days to figure out where the spot came from. You couldn't really see it until you held it a certain way. It almost looked like a waxy film. So, never touch gorilla glass with copenhagen on your fingers, or never clean your screen with 95% alcohol.

So, have you found out what is OK to use? That's only on the protector? (which I don't use). Is it OK to use directly on the glass?

I took out the screen protector because it was interfering with the touch screen and use the alcohol on the glass haven't used any other cleaner water is good enough I guess
I used eye glass cleaner before putting on my screen protector
this stuff is pretty amazing too http://www.amazon.com/Screen-Guard-Foam-Cleaning-Spray/dp/B0012YCTZM/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8 makes it even more smudge/fingerprint resistant even without a protector
will that get rid of the sticky stuff left from the screen protector? i mean i tried alcohol and that didnt even work
It should get rid of it and reapply an invisible protective smudge-resistant coat...what kind of protector did you use? The T-Mobile ones are static adhesive...

Does anyone know of a finger print resistant screen protector for the touch pad?

I've been looking all over the internet and I've been unable to find anything that looks like it would keep my greasy ass hands from messing up my touchpad screen. Does anyone else have any ideas?

I was about to suggest military shield, but I think I'm going to try skinomi because its half the price with decent reviews (via amazon). I have the military shield on my phone screen, and it is freaking awesome. Crystal clear, NEVER scratches so it seems, fairly resistant to fingerprints, and it has a nice, natural feel to it. Zagg on my cousins vibrant felt waaaaaay too sticky/tacky. Just not natural at all. Will let y'all know when I order/test the skinomi protector.

Skinomi is the same tacky crap as zagg.
I find just getting any "Matte" screen protector works wonders. It scatters light, and doesn't seem to attract fingerprints the way those other shiny guards do. I got one on Ebay for $3. Just type in Matte screen protector touchpad for a cheap solution.

Well its pretty easy, you just need a sticky tape and a good eye.
You need to do it in a clean room, and obviously you need to clean the screen first.
If you failed at the first attempt, just peel off and try again, no harm on doing that.
The easiest way to align it is to aim for the camera hole and the home button, just make sure they are centered when u aim it.
If you have bubbles after application, this is most probably caused by dust (or just bad quality screen protector) if it is a dust, just use the sticky tape to remove the dust. The sticky tape will not leave any mark on your screen nor the screen protector.
Hope this tips will help
Putting it on in a steamy bathroom also helps keep the dust out of the air. On your first attempt, try to peel it off of the backing as you apply it, pushing trapped air out as you go. It gets a bit trickier when you have to handle the whole thing peeled off.
Okay, so after using the skinomi skin for about a week now, I have to say I like it. One of the reasons I got my stylus was because I hated fingerprint smudges on the screen, and with the skinomi, it is hard to see any smudges after multiple uses. May ditch my stylus now, who knows.
Anyways, a couple things to note:
1) as another user stated, put the skinomi on after a hot shower with the door closed. You want the mirrors good and steamed up
2) line up the home button first. My skinomi is a little off and so its closer to one edge of the screen than the other. No biggie, really, just full disclosure
3) don't worry about the camera hole so much. For one, camera doesn't work on cm9 anyways. For two, even if it seems like the skinomi is a little bit over the lens, I don't think its a big enough of a deal. You could line it up perfectly on the camera, but you run the risk of your home button being overlapped by some of the skin
4) while squeegeeing, use the included cloth to wipe up any solution that gets pushed to the edges. Maybe not necessary, but I did anyways
5) once you are done, IT WILL LOOK LIKE THE CRAPPIEST SKIN/SCREEN PROTECTOR EVER. Again, don't worry. After 2 or 3 days, it will should look great.
I would post pics, but what's the point? If anyone wants, I guess I could. anyways, for about 7 bucks, I would definitely recommend the skinomi protector. It does not feel all tacky like the zagg stuff, its actually pretty nice.
