Don't you run out of roms?
-Zyner

I flash every test version of Franco kernel so about twice or thrice a week.

I haven't flashed any ROMS for about 6 months now, but when I did I was flashing 2-3 Roms a day.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using XDA Premium 4 mobile app

About once a week or so, I try to keep it quick and easy though.

I flash every so often, only with devices that im not currently using ( 17+ wow!) unless im disappointed with whatever its on. maybe even few months i have a day or a week where i become a Flashoholic

Personally i flash about 1-2 times a month.
-Zyner

One time per week may be less

1-2 times per year... I try everything to resist flashing every day (I'm always scared something goes wrong while flashing)

I flashes as soon as new ROM becomes available

since there is not much custom roms for the i9305 i dont flash often, but till now i've flashed 26 times in 1 month
is it bad for the phone to flash very often?

i want to say for samsung it can be, there is a flash counter and i think after a number of flashing it wont let you flash it or unless you reset the counter like using Triangle away on the play store, i could be wrong.

Broken Recovery + bootscreen

So on my i896 Captivate, I just flashed the serendipity 7 rom. I think I'm getting this problem (see image) because I forgot to do a full wipe on the device before flashing over serendipity 7.
http://i.imgur.com/alsYu.jpg
I get this garbled screen when I bootup my phone (happens between the i896 logo and the serendipity loading screen) and when trying to boot into recovery. Ergo, I am not able to access clockwork recovery.
Anyone know how I would attempt to fix this?
I'm gonna guess you didn't flash GB boot loaders. Did you follow the directions on the op of serendipity 7?

You mean that one?
That looks like the boot image replacer not the the bootloaders, You did not flashed these http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129821
No I mean go read all the instructions for flashing serendipity. There is a Odin step for GB roms to get the correct boot loaders the first time you flash a GB ROM

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. I forgot full wipe before flashing.
Need a hardware jig to fix.
My remedy was to exchange my cappy for a new one with ATT. Check your
warranty agreement and call them. My phone was 19 days under 1 year and
mint; they spotted me a new one the same day.
I hope everything works out for you.

a wipe has nothing to do with bootloaders.....
and forgetting to wipe certainly wouldnt cause a brick.....

I certainly did. The ATT service center was only 10 min from my home and I got
a new phone before my warranty ran out. They offered and I accepted.

Can you break your device from "over-flashing"?

I'll be the first to admit it - I'm a flash-whore... some days I'll flash 2-3 ROMS, then try various kernels, then restore my nandroid when I'm done for the day.
Some weeks I flash ROMs daily, some I flash a couple of times.
Can I damage my device if I keep this up?
I think there's some theoretical limit to the number of r/w cycles on this kind of memory, but I've never heard of anyone who's actually exceeded that limit.
..
Good. That set my mind at ease.
Thanks for both the question and the answer. Never knew how to ask the question....puts me at ease too!!!

ive flashed my ns thousands of times, roms and kernels, and im still flashing..
thanks for the info!
great question
I have been flashing roms like a madman too. I guess I flash more kernels everyday. At the moment, I don;t think that this will happen, but in the long run , yes.. there might be some problems. Perhaps you should slow down when flashing a rom. This might give the rom a few days to get back to normal before you do a full wipe again.

Your statement makes no sense. Allowing a few days for the "rom to get back to normal" has nothing to do with flashing.

With respect to flashing.. As others stated, there's a theoretical limit of writes as with any flash memory, but I've yet to seen it reached. As for a rom settling in..it's settled in a few minutes after a reboot from the first boot.

I understand as I am also a flash whore but I think we would have to be some super flash ho's before our phones breaks. In other words I may have been flashing at least 3 times a day, but you gotta flash much over what anybody would want like hundreds of times. Also if your looking for a good ROM look at my signature, it doesn't disappoint.

this is what rom i am looking for

ok i am running orthous six right now and i like it, i never tried any ics roms but i read somewhere that there are a couple out there with great battery life. i want a rom with really good battery life . i dont play games at all on my skyrocket at all and i surf the web occasionally. i do text alot and use the phone for my contact list big time. which rom best suits those needs, good battery life and good internet connection from both wi-fi and signal, my area doesnt have 4g yet but i do get hsdpa+ or whatever. just curious to see what is out there. i put liquid smooth on there and had a few little bugs. oh and i need 1 that doesnt have to have 4 or 5 different things to install ,modems, kernals and all that stuff are beyond me.
You either need to stay stock or do some more reading and learn about custom mods.

Embryo 5.4
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
this sounds a preferred ROM thread lol but anyways i would say to try with embryo might fit best based off your needs but you need to start flashing the roms on your own to determine the best for you. but JB may not be the best option becasue there is limited access since we dont have an official yet
thats more or less the answer i was looking for , i want to use that embryo rom but when i was reading it i sort of got confused when it said choose your modem for radio and all that stuff . maybe putting in your apn and all that. if it just a simple wipe 3times factory reset, update ,flash gapps its cool ,but all that other jazz is confusing. i looked at my phone info and it dont show my modem it says baseband version unknown.
your not gonna get every answer you want that not the point of the question if you not that comfortable doing this stuf then stay stokc or learn to Rom

Yes there's only one 'model' really, the memory size doesn't matter (or the color)
Yeah go for it and flash to your hearts desire. If anything, always make sure your phone is charged all the way, and be sure to either have the factory images handy, or your nandroid backups. This phone is amazing so put it through its paces and try out the different ROMs and kernels...for me stock is fine except I flashed franco's kernel to improve battery life.

[Q] Random freezing when screen is turned off

Hi guys,
I've bought my Nexus 5 about 2 months ago and I'm pretty happy with it. So far. Since a few days it freezes randomly. Particularly when the screen is turned off. The effect usually occurs when I turn off the screen and turn it back on right away. Also, when I plug off the charger. Usually, I just have to wait 3 seconds and I can turn it back on. But sometimes I have to wait up to a few minutes until it works again. That usually doesn't happen to often, but I have the feeling it's getting more often.
Any ideas?
Btw: My phone is rooted, but no other modifications where made.
Cheers, Liquid

As far as I'm concerned, no. I rooted the Nexus with a Nexus Rootkit. After the root I found BusyBox Free,Quick boot and SuperUser in the app menu.

I suggest Purity, Elix-R or Cataclysm.. but I expect if you try Purity first you'll stick with it :good:

Thanks guys for your support on flashing a custom rom
But nevertheless, that still doesnt' explain where those random freezes are coming from. Any idea how I could at least narrow my search for the root cause down?

Could do that or use Greenify and a task manager to see what's running, and to auto kill everything but the essentials with Greenify. Task manager would only be for checking running processes. Grab rom toolbox, it has a task manager and an auto run manager. If I had to guess, it's something that has no business running all the time anyhow.
