[ROM][PORT][UPDATE] Paranoid Android V1.5 base CM9 beta 4 - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 Android Development

PARANOID ANDROID V1.5 RC2
FOR GALAXY Y GT-S5360 TOTORO
Ported by hnkotnis
Many bugs are fixed now, with base changed to @bieltv.3 's CM9 beta 4 as base.
Today I completed exact 1 year after joining XDA Developers. So I am launching RC2 version of PA,
which was a bit delayed because couldn't get it properly boot. Yesterday I got it to boot and today I am uploading here.

This is based on BroadcomCM CM9 Beta2 Beta 4.
I know there is another Paranoid Android ROM. But it is buggy. In this version lot of bugs are fixed.
Credits are given in the end and I think I have got all people who deserve it.
If you think I have missed something, send me a message.

Installation Instructions:-
0. YOU NEED ROOT!!! Making Nandroid backup from CWM is recommended before install.
*** Use stock ROM before flashing for best results. ***
1. First go to CWM Recovery. Flash Multi Formatter. Proceed and select EXT4.
2. When you come to recovery, there will be some mounting errors. IGNORE THEM
3. Flash the Kernel. Then go to advanced ====> Reboot Recovery.
4. Now you will be in Blue BroadcomCM CWM Recovery.
5. Go to Mounts and Storage. Mount System. UNMOUNT AND MOUNT TWICE.
***You need to unmount and mount twice, because CWM's mount option shows wrong first time***
6. Flash the ROM zip.
7. Wipe data and cache.
8. Reboot and Enjoy!!!
You can also use BroadcomCM's CM9. (In case of CM9, skip to step 4, just format system, data, cache and install ROM or do a dirty flash on existing ROM).

Well... I can make it stable with new stable build. I didn't knew when stable was coming. (I am not updated with news due to exams)
But I couldn't wait to port.

Bugs:
All above mentioned
Resizing issues in settings, lock screen.
Didn't test more.
Can't read text in settings (as mentioned)
Reverted back to previous ROM.

Of course this contains bugs, because it is in Beta phase.
@mohamedrashad
I don't have force close when I long click statusbar items (like Wi-Fi, BT Toggles).

Just a reminder to you
-You haven't mentioned the Original thread link
-Haven't mentioned the name of developer in the credits
-Also proper permissions are required to port roms.
Hope you do the needful ASAP!
Good Luck:good:

I don't know what is with File Manager, System in Settings, where on or of Bluetooth, GPS, Orientation, Wi-Fi etc.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth don't work for me.
@The-Superman downloading will test and provide a review soon.
A few questions.
1.if you plan to keep aosp why not build it odexed.
2.what are known bugs so far.
3.future it will remain pure aosp or will you be including tweaks that are non invasive and actually help improve user experience:
eg.performance menu fork cm,powerwidgets.
4.is there overclocking and governors for the kernel.
Good Day:good:

Q&A
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why don't I have root access after installing OmniROM?
A: OmniROM does not have an official, prebuilt root method yet, so you'll just need to flash SuperSU in recovery and you'll have 100% working root access. SuperSU can be found here: SuperSU
Q: Where is <insert feature here>, like CM/AOKP/PA/etc have??
A: Omni is still very early in development, but moving at an incredibly fast rate. New feature, bug fixes, and device support are added just about daily. Check it out here: OmniROM Gerrit Review for the latest and greatest
Q: How do I start/stop screen recording?
A: Volume UP + Power will start screen recording. Simply drag the notification bar down and click the button to stop.
Q: HALP NFC doesn't work!!
A: We know.
Nice to see a new release, thanks for sharing with us

anyone try it out yet?? i've been running it all day. everything's working great! :highfive:
I just wiped everything and installed it. I haven't found any issues yet, but I haven't even made any phone calls yet.
Thanks a ton for pulling this all together and sharing with the rest of us. I've been itching to try Omni.
EDIT: I made a phone call now! I haven't run across anything that doesn't work. Calls, texts, camera all work fine.

I did load it up seems to run just fine, missing alot of features I like to use such as hardware keys (custom settings) which is the main thing and the general interface options so I'll wait for some future tweaks.
I'd love to try this but again what are the tweaks in this rom? What do they differ from others and what are the same?

Right now there are less than CyanogenMod, it is very close to stock AOSP at this point, but Gerrit review is overloaded with tons and tons of new features, theres at least one or so new features being merged in daily. Read the articles I posted in the OP for more information on that from the OmniROM team themselves, their philosophy, and future plans
It might be missing some extras, but this is a very solid ROM.
I've only found two minor issues that are probably upstream issues. The capacitive buttons never light up. I'm pretty sure that's a known Omni-wide issue. Secondly, I got root to work, but OpenVPN Installer still says it can't remount /system as rw. I even tried remounting it rw first in root explorer, but it just won't install the OpenVPN binary. I'm guessing that's related to root not being built in.
Battery life seems good given how much I've had the screen on (50% battery with over 2.5 hours of screen on).
Overall, great job, Jake!

Jakew02, I'm going to try to compile a build using your repos. Hopefully I can start trying to contribute a bit. I'm a total noob though.

Huh? Recovery is NOT built into the kernel for this device. Its in a different partition of its own. There is no compiling TWRP over CMW for this device. Recovery needs to be compiled separately if you're trying to compile your own. Just look in the device repos.

Description
Vanilla RootBox is built straight from RootBox sources and always carries a very light installation with no extra/useless apps. This means, you can enjoy a pure Android experience combined with AOKP/CM features and some CM cherry-picks. Keep in mind Jelly Bean is only at the beginning stage of development and there will be minor bugs. Every RootBox releases are stable and always up to the challenge for a daily usage. I personally have a high standard when it comes to releases and this is why this project always meets the expectations of users. If you're wondering how this ROM differs from any other AOKP roms out there, I only have one thing to say: Try it yourself and choose the one that meets your requirements.

I'm aware that Wifi-tethering has been missing on most of my Slim and AOKP-based ports, but a while back someone confirmed that it works on CM10.1.3-based roms (like ReVolt and BeanStalk 4.2.2). So I took a look inside the CM11 Wifi tether fix and here's the list of files you need to replace from the system/bin folder of CM10.1.3: hostapd, netd and wpa_supplicant.
I can't actually test if it works because I don't use data services, but if you do and it doesn't work and/or causes loss of data then I guess it can't be helped. Good luck either way!

About Us:Dirty Unicorns is a project that started out with no name. It was a project that was first based off AOKP back in the early days of Jelly Bean. In the early days -- it was just a one man show on one device, the EVO 3D. Since then, many others have joined the project and it has grown exponentially.
We have seen a lot of talent contribute to this project of ours. Big or small, the focus was always on contributing to the community. That is ultimately why we do what we do. After Jelly Bean, we decided to move to a new base, OmniROM. While AOKP was fun, OmniROM proved to be even more exciting base because it challenged us to see what we could do with a project that had different goals in mind. We learned a lot and gained contributors in the process. With Lollipop, we moved to an AOSP base with a lot of patches from CAF to make our older devices function as they should. We grew further with experience and learned a lot more along the way.
It has been an awesome learning experience and it's still not over! We are still learning, striving to grow each day, and continuing to move forward. Lastly, weDO NOT accept, nor ask, for donations. We do not believe in that. Everything that is necessary to keep this project going comes out of our own pocket. Gerrit, Jenkins, Websites, Devices, etc. We will never ask for a dime. All that we do ask is that you have patience, search for answers prior to posting, read, and try to enjoy the process with us!!
Note: This ROM is based on AOSP not CyanogenMod,in CyanogenMod optimizing apps happens at first boot shows up after bootanimation but in aosp ROM or some AOSp based ROMs it's hidden, that means apps will optimize during boot(animation),so if booting takes time don't pull out battery thinking phone is stucked at boot. Wait for 20mins or average time ,takes for optimizing apps(with gapps)

It should work. Because this zip has binaries from ace 3's stock rom and they can't be edited. And this rom has binaries from ace style's stock. They haven't edited.

yes,i used A-Gapps, don't have idea of other, but opengapps will create some issues, and BTW provide log(logcat+kmsg) just at the time of reboot,so that i could encounter what's making the ROM to reboot, though i haven't faced any reboot.

I guess yes you can,but sound libs comes with kernel (boot.img) ,so if you are going to flash that, which has boot.img of cm13(maybe), may cause unknown issues, because of different ramdisk(modified ramdisk). Rest is yours choice.

I won't say anything about random reboots, as till now, no idea what's creating this issue. But if you modify things over this ROM like flashed old audio hal package or something else,i won't take guarantee of it. Reason is already explained ^^ .
I am working on 3g and 2g preferred options. Maybe added in next build.
