I've been using it for ten minutes on the charger and for some reason the screen brigntness was low. So I went to the settings and it says "to avoid overheating maximum brightness has been reduced".. and my temperature is 47 degrees now. Anyone elses phone getting hot?

This used to happen with my Samsung Vibrant 4g... i believe you could burn the phone if it continues, it might be a factory issue.
Same here, charging on the wall charger with screen off, it hit 47c and won't go to max brightness.
I've also jist noticed after 50% the charging time decreases significantly. I went from 50% to 90% in 45 min

Mine got hot and I lost all service. It was up to about 93% charge and it just lost all cellular service. I had it rooted but didnt carrier unlock it. Got a replacement phone this morning and Im leaving it alone to see how it does while charging. With the long charge times this could be an issue. Not everyone can let a device set and not mess with it for 3-4 hours, lol I know I cant.

Technically I don't think you are supposed to be using your phone while on the charger... This happens to all phones just some heat up faster than others.... My old ATT Startac did that, SE W900, Captivate, and this one.
It really kills the life of the battery too as well. Nature of the beast....

Had to get a new one but so far so good, 95 degrees F while charging.

Just an update, charged past 50% on the new phone and its picking up speed and charging much faster. Temp is steady at 87F. Seems like I really just had a bad unit because the other phone got up to 116F just charging with the screen off.

Seriously this overheating problem is getting pretty annoying. Phone overheats when I'm watching a movie, playing a game and charging. Phone actually went into safe mode a couple of times because of the overheating.
This has never happened to Mr and I watched 2 movies on the way to Paris today on auto brightness. Probably a hardware issue.

my phone hasn't done anything like that, but today when i was playing some gameloft game, my temp got to 48 Celsius...
My phone was getting hot the first few weeks, but lately it's been cooler.
Sent from my latest creation, Thanks Devs!
Do a factory reset, or check and see if you have a runaway app that is constantly making the processor run on Max. I had the same problem the first week and couldnt sstand it. Turns out widgetsoid and widgetlocker (or so I've heard) have this problem. Do a nandroid backup and factory reset. Worked well for me. Just for clarification my battery wasn't the issue, the phone would get hot right around the sim area underneath the camera. Hope this helps

Mine gets super hot only when I am using my gps with the screen on for over 30 minutes. And when I say super hot, I mean SUPER HOT! Like to a point where if I had it in my pocket it would irritate my skin. Do I hear a lawsuit? lol. j/k.
i have not experienced any of the above.
but today around 8ish am i will be taking off in a trip and the infuse will be my main GPS just for the fun of it.
i will check out these so called overheating issues.
Are you using a case?

Yes it gets hot the 1st week, when you buy a new phone you have to charge it for 12-15hrs even it indicate it is full and not charging.

No I am not using a case. And I'm not talking about only when I charge the phone. Its when I play a game for a few minutes or watch a movie for 10-20 minutes. And its the top portion of the phone. Its not coming from the battery.

I haven't seen any heat issues on this phone.
Trust me when I tell you that my Infuse has never noticeably changed temperature. I can say this with confidence because I switched from a Nexus One. The N1 has an aluminum body and any time you do absolutely anything with the charger plugged in or with the GPS on, the phone gets hot enough to make your hand feel sweaty. So this phone is a world of difference from that.
If your phone is over heating to the point of safe mode, you NEED to return it, it's a problem with the processor and it will only get worse....the heat comes directly from underneath the camera and led and has nothing to do with the battery

Mine only got super hot when I had gos on nav going and pluged into the car charger but it was also like 100 degrees outside lol just my input

If you have a new Infuse it is really hot on the first week, after 4 days to a week mine became normal. Max at 40 C

Your phone must be defective. I can play hours of hd games and never have any overheating issues. The back cover is cold for most of the time and even when charging and playing games it is barely warm.
So i went on my trip and im back. I am delighted with the way it performed.
didnt notice and heat issues tho..
I must have a defective phone then. This is really disappointing...

go return it. my phone is charging right now and it feels a itty bitty warm. not like "OH MY GOD! MY SKIN!" no its just like warm like warm lol
idk how to explain warm just roomish temp warm.
My phone has only gotten to 104° f while watching youtube and charging from 5%. World of difference from the captivate.

Was just wondering if anyone else had experienced random heating up from the sensation and perhaps managed to pinpoint its cause?
The reason I am so confused is because it doesn't do it all the time so its not that the phone just runs hot, the other day I was playing gta 3 for an hour and the phone was barely warm and now as I type this after some casual web browsing out and about its getting so I can barely touch the bottom of the phone, I saw someone mention something to do with mobile data causing more heat than Wi-Fi which could be the case for my example but can anyone shed anymore light on the issue?

Yes for me when I was using a stock BATTERY I would experience this quite often.sometimes my device would get so hot I could barely touch it. I was actually in fear of melting my SD card! I solved my problem by purchasing a long lasting battery called Anker. My device has never done that since the battery has been installed! Sometimes if I'm playing a intense game I'll get some warmth but Nothing like what was happening before. Before the battery change I could barely even touch my device it was so hot ! The Anker battery solved the problem for me and gave me much more battery time! It was a win win situation, no more overheating and more battery time! That's what worked for me. Hope this helps you out.

My device got some warmth but not that blazing hot. My guess is that you using mobile data a lot without giving it a rest. I'm using the stock battery but it seems quite ok. But sometimes I play HD games and my sensation turns really hot but i could still hold that
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE using xda premium
I often get decently hot even with my anker battery, but I usually just ignore it and it goes away, I would use "battery indicator" from the play store to see what your battery temp really is, because my phone has felt hot before even though the battery itself was at a fine temperature. If its the battery then think about getting a new battery, but if it isn't then there no reason.

For me my problem was definitely the battery, ! My battery also was giving me only two hours then complete drain. Each issue can be different. But new battery solved the over heat problem for me but I'm certain -my battery was defective.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using xda premium
I'm using anker batteries and after some more testing I've found that it is related to mobile data, after playing games such as Max Payne, gta 3, and minecraft all pretty demanding for a few hours the phone got no more than slightly warm and then I turned mobile data and syncing on checked emails and Facebook etc and the bottom of the phone near the buttons got very hot even after like ten mins, pretty weird.

I get it sometimes with heavy use of mobile data with stick battery.
Sent from my HTC Sensation XE with Beats Audio Z715e using xda premium
Constant data usage causes it to heat up. But I also UV'd my phone, which only exacerbated the problem. Once I removed the UV, the heat issue was nowhere near as bad.

i often felt heat phone
i think common ics build problem.
htc have to release some about heating phone.
i go back to gingerbread. it is little heating phone.
i recommend to gingerbread.
The phone gets so hot due to a bad layout on the motherboard, even with an Anker battery I have actually burnt my thumb tip on bottom of the screen.
One way to help the problem is by getting an Anker battery, the only problem with these is they do not have a built in temperature sensor as it was removed to expand battery capacity. So any temperature app will say approx 25.2'c
After some researching I found that the app System Tuner can read CPU temps in realtime, get Pro and the CPU Temp icon pack and you can have alerts that are fully customizable.
Is this the normal current that I'd meant to be drawn when not plugged in. My friends is only 100ma....

I've seen that before. If you have your CPU running high with the screen on it can do that. It depends on what is running. If you're getting crappy battery life post to the battery sticky thread after reading the first 4 posts.

Here. I cranked my brightness all the way up too just to see how high it will go. There was nothing running on my N5 when I checked.

1A would be 1000mA.
I've shared results regarding this before. Here were my findings from a previous post:
Basically the idle current draw numbers are not being recorded accurately. As far as I can tell, when the phone is sleeping and needs to wake itself to check the current draw there is a spike in power usage at that time meaning the true sleep power usage is never shown.
In my graph you can see roughly 5 hours of idle with the occasional spike for a notification. It's important to note that the refresh time for Current Widget was set to 5 seconds, but because the phone was trying to sleep it would only wake itself to poll at random.
After that is a period of music listening with the screen off. Here we can see consistently less power usage than before during deep sleep. Is it possible that the phone uses less power listening to music than it does when it's asleep? Even with DSP audio tunneling that would be extremely unlikely.
After that is various forms of screen usage with idle time in between. Note how the minimal usage numbers are the same as was reported during the phone's deep sleep. Unless we're willing to concede that the phone uses the same minimum power with the screen on as it does with the screen off, we should conclude that the deep sleep readings are not being reported correctly.

Thanks for the info! I think the app may be very inaccurate..... Charging with my normal charger it says it is outputting 500ma when it should be 1200ma. Can anyone confirm this?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
My n5 charged, according to gsam, around 700 to 1100, depending on the cable and charger I used, and what I had running on the device. (CPU load)
500 might be due to the cable or charger... But it should still be more than enough to charge your phone. Just a bit slower is all.

It shows my charging speeds properly actually. Up to 1700mA with my 1.8A Blackberry charger. I think it's just not accurate to measure deep sleep measurements.
Sounds like you're being limited to USB speeds which is 500mA. This is common when using chargers or USB cords designed for Apple devices, or if you are actually using USB for charging. It should say Charging AC and not Charging USB to get normal charge speeds of 1200mA.

I don't think so. The difference is what is being used by your phone, so you probably just have high background drain.

When I switched to CM12 my battery life got worse and my tablet now takes many hours to fully charge. I've had poor battery life before but this charging issue is new. I don't know how to troubleshoot the battery but I'm wondering ROM or bad battery?
EDIT: Also wondering why the screen has such high use. I do have it bright with a 2 min shutoff but I always have. This is a change for the screen to be consuming most of the resources. I have no idea how to compensate other than squinting at a dark screen. Could this be related to the reason it takes so long to charge?

I had the same problem ! It was actually the proximity sensor which sucks uo the battery . I will advice you to switch back to stock ! You battery will be back to life ! Almost all custom roms have this problem
