I've looked all the way back to 2010 for a answer to this and to no avail....is there anyway to extend the internal storage for apps from 2gb to all the internal storage? Sorry if its a dumb question but it seams so simple with a Odin .pit file

I mean like are you guys happy with just 2 GB that no Dev has found a work around for it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Never hit the limit. I don't play a lot of games on this ancient device though either. I have emulators on here for n64, psx, and gba but almost never bother. I have my Xbox for that. Productivity apps don't use that much space.

exactly how many apps do u want or need to install, how big are the apps are u trying to install
Its not my device but a friends, its to hold him off till his upgrade is upgrade is up and he is a heavy user and has lots of various games and apps and the 2gb limit cripples him.

The hardware cripples any decent games too lol so even if you changed the partitions it won't keep up.
If you want to try and change them, by all means feel free but I don't know many here wanting to risk it. Talk to team rookie someone there may be able to help.

why do you have a second partition on your sd card?

Because i created an ext3 partition so all my apps/games are stored there instead of internal or sdcard. With link2sd you can save tons of space by even moving library files, cache files and others from apps that normally take up space on internal storage. Regular froyo apps2sd does not do this and leaves those on internal storage so you would never be able to install as many apps like i do.

God damn man, 600?? Haha beastly. Definitely the most I've ever seen. Restoring all that after every ROM flash must be a *****.

I have dual boot on my laptop. I have to restart to boot into ubuntu though, his question seems more like, can you store two os in ram and switch between them. That would be sweet. Especially now that I know about that swapper program that lets you built a virtual ram partion on your ultra class 10 32gig sd : )

This works great on computers but on devices it would be kind of pointless not to mention the amount of memory you would need...still seems cool but I can't imagine the benefits...

It was the same thing he was asking, the other (I give him the benefit of the doubt) thing he also know isn't the best way for a phone ram, yet.

Is there any way that I can increase the internal ram in my device?
Are you asking to increase the amount of memory or increase usable internal storage?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Well, I guess you can physically open up the device and solder in some ram.
But on a serious note, our phone has a total of 512 mb of ram, but only about 366 mb of ram available. Apparently this is because 146 mb of ram is needed for the screen. Perhaps it might be possible for someone to make a hack to make this ram accessible? I know such a hack exists for the first android phone, the HTC dream.
Also, there's a thing you can use called swap or whatever. You basically partition off a part of your SD card and you can use that as ram, many people do this with older phones. But it won't be nearly as fast as real ram, due to SD card speed limits.
Anyways, does our phone really need more ram? It runs ICS just fine with 366 mb of ram
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
I think working some kernel magic you could theoretically borrow some from the gpu but that might make the whole thing unstable if you tried to run some heavy graphics. Still actually an interesting thought
I'm having an average of 150mb free ram on hebmiui ics. That's more than i ever had on gb roms and is quite sufficient.

ram is 512 about 140 is used between os fucntions eg video audio cell wi fi sound so on so forth . Heres a kicker your device may report more ram used then actually is used. The way android works is it actually borrows memory to make standard os functions work better eg using ram as cache for common used functions. While it looks like this ram is being used. IF a application requires the memory it takes it back. So dont fret You have enough useable ram to run apps with.

It's a special revision of the hardware that Samsung is planning on releasing for Halloween. It looks like some people already got their hands on it though. Most of us have to wait until Oct. 31 or later to get it.

Then how did the value pack for the Samsung galaxy s give it more ram?

Where did you read that? It may free up RAM but it doesn't give it more. It is hardware. Want more RAM buy a different phone. End of story. lol

Not really a big deal but it would be cool to see on our skyrocket. Our developers are so awesome so it wouldn't surprise me to see it. Getting it on nexus 7 and would love to have it on both.

Honestly probably not; and I think it's a gimmick at the moment. A phone entirely controlled by gestures? Sounds great in theory, but not great in practice
I guess I'll find out soon enough on my nexus 7.

one word: BB10, blackbery's new os is entirely gesture drive
but we don't have enough devs for a port of something like this, its massive... I truly believe that unless a device with similar chip set/CPU gets it we likely won't. Don't get me wrong our devs are great, just few
Would be nice, as would Firefox OS but i'm more hot for Ubuntu for Android as that would finally rid me of having a technically unnecessary pc
I use a gesture based OS on my blackberry playbook daily. It is incredibly smooth when done correctly. If Ubuntu does it correctly, then I wouldn't mind having it ported. If it's done badly, then it just wouldn't be worth it.

True, this leads me to believe it won't be as hard as people are thinking to get this to build yes it will involve a lot of work but I'm not thinking its going to be some herculean task.

Working on porting it now actually if git servers ever decide to sync.
I hope it's easy to do. I love android but I've always wanted to try a different operating system. Not gonna make it permanent but it'd be cool to use sometimes. Anyone know if you can back it up with recovery and restore it later? I'll ask over in the nexus 7 forums as well.
Sent from my SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
You can if you make a flashable zip. Installing via bootstrapper deletes everything iirc.
Cannocal has already made a flashable zip for the nexus devices. You have to fastboot flash a .img file.

Well, PM one. Maybe they'll do something.
I still love tracking the limited development we have on this phone. I'm using a Nexus 4 as my daily driver, but still swap into the Sidekick as there are still somethings like typing and swapping between apps that it does better in some cases (like trips to the grocery store). Here's hoping our new GB ROM works out well.
