CID change - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Is it normal to be able to change cid without s off?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium

Sometimes you can change it once. Are you saying you're able to change your CID? What are your bootloader details?
Sent from my Evita

Yes, I can freely change my cid. I have the 5.18 firmware, unlocked bootloader, and supercid (22222222). I have changed it to that from 11111111 and to CWS__001. Is it because of my unlocked bootloader?

Very interesting. When did you first notice the ability to change your CID freely like that?
Sent from my Evita

I was just messing around and wondered if random fastboot commands worked, such as fastboot own writesecureflag 0. That returned an error, so I tried changing the cid. It froze the device so I tried rebooting and saw that it actually changed.

Well, I've got no clue as to how that's happening.

And I want to know if what I'm about to do will brick me. I've changed my cid back to att, and I can relock my bootloader. Ive also changed my mainver to 1.00.000.0. Would it be very risky to run the 3.18 ruu?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

Why do you want to run that RUU? You can't run an older RUU while you're s-on anyway. But, the one thing that you usually really need to worry about the 3.18 RUU is this: s-on + SuperCID + jb RUU = brick. How would you change the mainver?
Sent from my Evita

There was a flashable zip floating around for a different device, I tried it and it worked. I know that supercid and s on is a brick, but what about at&t cid and s on, that should work. The only point of running that ruu would be to get the 3.18 firmware and try to use rumrunner and facepalm and possibly firewater.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

Why on earth would you flash a zip that's not intended for our device? That's one awesome way to brick it. You can't run the RUU. If you already have SuperCID, why not just try Facepalm or Rumrunner?
Sent from my Evita

I flashed it as it didn't mess with anything phone specific and it was for other devices as well. Besides, the worst that could happen was it would soft brick. And I've tried those methods and they dont work. I've tried them sever times on different computers and different cables. I've also tried different roms. It just diesnt work.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

What was the zip? Those s-off methods do work, it's just a matter of working out exactly what's going wrong in your case.
Sent from my Evita

You got lucky, that zip isn't for our device at all, and I couldn't see anywhere where it says it's ok to flash on other devices.
I'd suggest you'd try the Facepalm s-off method again, if you have any issues paste the text from the command prompt here.

When I try facepalm, I get an error of not allowed when I flash the zip file In fastboot

Error[140] Bootloader version

Good day all you clever people, please dispatch any advice you may have as I am literally pulling my hair out of my head. Much thanks in advance.
[Problem]
I have an HTC Desire S and I would like to install the stock ROM on it as I want to return it to HTC for repairs.
[Question}
Which is the correct RUU to download and install?
Are there any changes that I have to make in order to install the RUU and avoid error[140]
I am in South Africa if this plays a role.
I successfully installed Cyanogen Mod (cm-7.2.0-saga.zip) using HTCdev, Superuser and ClockWorkMod Recovery using the tutorial below:
hypertexttransferprotocol://androidforums.com/desire-s-all-things-root/606770-guide-root-desire-s-hboot-2-0-s.html
[What I have already tried]
I read multiple guides from the forums about restoring the phone to the stock ROM.
I relocked the HBOOT using "fastboot oem lock"
I downloaded and attempted to install two different RUUs but keep getting Error[140]

hello mate, every RRU i have tried to flash has game me some sort of error on every one, last one that failed on me, i had to remove the battery then put the phone into fast boot manually, then the RRU flashed straight away.
Was your phone branded to a network carrier when you first got it?
Thanks for your reply. My phone is not branded, or at least that I know of.
What steps did you follow to put the phone into fast boot manually without a battery?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
your cidnum: HTC__016 so your phone was VODA-Africa-South if i'm not wrong
Yes, that is correct. I was unaware that the phone was branded. There was absolutely no carrier branding on the hardware or software. Any idea where I can get the voda_southafrica RUU? Thanks.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
you can use newest official ICS to update, as it is a WWE edition, can be used with any Desire S
Thanks for the tip. I installed ICS successfully today and it is running perfectly.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
You will need to a GoldCard if you want to RUU to a different region, if you dont have it, you can only RUU to the correct region based on your current.
You will need to change your misc_version if you want to upgrade or downgrade your OS version. If you dont have it. You can only RUU from the current version you currently have to a higher, correct region.

Thank you for the information. I will keep it in mind if I have to downgrade in the future.

Hi I was using magiorom and having some reboots, so want to go back to stock(just ordered Nexus 5) ready to sell on the phone. Currently have zenrom installed but would love to be able to get back to stock either Europe ruu or original O2. In the past having phone rooted lowers price because some people don't want to have the root option, and some apps don't allow it eg Barclays or sky

Connect your phone in fastboot mode. Open CMD and type "fastboot getvar all" as it will show you full phone info.
BTW why you need the RUU, have bricked the device?

You need the TMOUS 3.14 RUU. But Androidruu.com is down at the moment. You'll have to way a while until the servers are online again.
You can flash this firmware.zip --> LINK
and install a custom rom if you don't want to wait.
can i write that firmware by TWRP ?
