[Q] Flashing to Stock ROM: Problem with img_sparsechunk - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I need help flashing my device back to stock. I tried following this guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219&highlight=sparsechunk But I keep experiencing so many errors.
The following is the error that I get when I do the command for sparsechunk. It keeps returning FAILED. Can someone please help me out with this?

Have you unlocked your bootloader, as 2 of the lines you have posted say, bootloader permission denied.

Ever happened to me the error in the first file system. But others continued running normally and had no problems.

Do your sparsechunk images start from 1 or from 0 ?

Same issue

I fixed my problem.. this is what you should try.
1. Download the stock rom.. perfect for your phone and carrier.
2. Follow teh step by step but when you reach the sparcechuck.. go to teh folder where you unzipped the files from the rom and make sure the names match...
That is how i fixed mine

I have no problem, i wanted to help.
But that what you said was exactly that what i was talking about
But don't rename the file. Just change the fastboot command from 0 to 1 or the other way round.
There are some firmwares which start from 1 others start from 0.
So depending on your firmware you have to start with
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk1
or with
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk0
And as you said youl'll find that out if you look into the folder of the extracted ZIP file.

[Q] Help! stucked at boot

I had problems with play store and I search all posible solutions and nothing worked so I decided to reinstall the stock rom
but some files gave me fail when trying to flash them on the fastboot
and now it stays at motorola bootloader warning
I can acces to fastboot and to cwm but I dont know how to flash a new rom without sd
another detail that maybe is usefull is that every time that I exit from cwm it asks to repair root
sorry for bad english and thanks for help
When I try to flash rom with faqs method it says

I'm not sure if this is the solution, but I had a similar problem and realized that you have to use mfastboot, I.e Motorola's version of fastboot. Simply download the mfastboot.exe(simple Google search should find it), place it in the adb folder, then run the same commands again, replacing fastboot with mfastboot

The Official RUU of M8 for Windows Phone (Verizon Edition)

The file name is PDM_W8_WL_BLUE_00_VERIZON WWE_1.06.605.02_Radio_1.00.50.0806_release.zip. It actually comes from a Chinese forum, the original link is here.
It was claimed to be official RUU. And the download link is here. Password of the link is w8xm, which is needed before showing the file. It's a cloud storage link from China. I don't know if it can be downloaded outside China. May need VPN?
Anyway, hope it could help to port WP to the Android version M8.

I wonder what it would take to flash it to a AT&T M8? I have a spare one, but really don't want to make a paperweight with it. :silly:
Well to flash any RUU that's not with what came with the phone, you would need to be s-off and have supercid. The file in question is in zip form, it wouldn't run the same way as one that's in exe form.
You would have to flash that type of file in rebootRUU mode in fast boot.

RUU/NBH Contents
I don't usually dig this deep on roms so I am out of my typical bubble. That said, I am a developer, so this is the kind of thing I do every day.
I downloaded and extracted the RUU file. It contains an *.nbh file and a *.crc file.
I tried NBHExtract (from here), and it failed with an invalid format error.
As did NBHImageTool (from here).
I also found this link about the binary format of NBH files, and looking at it with a hex editor I don't think the described format matches the file contents.
On the other hand, I do see a reference to VZW__001 in the top of the file, as well as a WWE
These tools seem to be from an older generation of hardware. Perhaps the NBH format has been updated, or perhaps these are protected via encryption in some way.
Anyway, that's as far as I got into looking at this file.
---------- Post added 3rd September 2014 at 12:18 AM ---------- Previous post was 2nd September 2014 at 11:56 PM ----------
I also noticed that the NBH file has what appears to be a model number in the header:
06.605.02 0P6B21000
Searching 0P6B21000, got me to this Chinese/(Japanese? idk) blog page:
blogofmobile-com/article/19906
and on the blog page, you can clearly see in the wifi cert image that 0P6B21000 is the model number of the HTC Product HTC6995LVW, which the the M8...
So, that's some kind of legitimacy.
and then I found this post about that number being used as the codename for the global version of the M8:
www-thewincentral-com/2014/08/19/global-version-of-htc-w8-htc-m8-windows-may-have-been-spotted-in-adduplex-database/
Since I cant post external links yet, I bet you can see where those dashes should look a lot more like dots.

Its reading the android info text file inside the ruu. If you are s-off you can change the model id and cid even, to your current cid and mid.
Hope this helps!

Yeah! Haha. As long as you still have S-Off you should be good. But if you dont want to go through the HTCDev unlock method you can do the adb method by scotty1223, you'll just need root for that. (and s-off)

no tools on xda will help , the rom is encrypted , and the decrypt key should be in the phone
So flashing that file failed. :crying: I was going to try it today and see. Oh well, guess that saves me the time. Spent a while yesterday getting it reunlocked (Tried installing drivers that I downloaded off an instructional video on youtube. Should have known it was trouble when it said "not for this computer" when I installed it.) But my computer did recognize it, but adb didn't see it. So I d/l the one on HTC and all went well. So my spare M8 is ready to try something else that turns up.
It was always going to be doubtful, but thanks for trying! It's a start :good:
I tried many things. I even flashed back to stock, and then tried to re-flash the rom.
I can't get past this message:
Code:
C:\Temp\adb>fastboot flash zip RUU.zip
target reported max download size of 1830711296 bytes

After looking at the NBH longer in a hex editor, there are several sections of readable strings, so I don't believe the file is encrypted after all. If it is, only some sections/blocks of it are.
For the record I tried combinations of Locked and Unlocked bootloader, regular CID and Super CID.
I wonder if the Windows device has the same CID as the android device. Perhaps it is different and we need to set it to something new.
Now I am starting to wonder if the windows system can be "flashed" with the android bootloader.

Yep. I changed my MID and CID to match what is in the first 200 bytes of the nbh file. No joy.
From what I can see, you need to make a proper file called "android-info" and put it in the zip file. If it is expecting it in the nbh itself, you need to modify the name to whatever the equivalent of "Android-info" is. Happy flashing!
There's no android-info.txt in the zip, because it's not an Android RUU. The bootloader won't parse the zip without it. Unless you add it in, all the attempts at flashing it will surely fail.

Acer A1-830 stuck in boot loop soft bricked.....

Okay i have an A1-830 & was installing a game, made a couple of modifications & now i have a soft bricked device.
I was installing Gangstar Rio & made some changes to try & get it to run as the minimum specs, my device had to run it but @ 1st it stated that the license was invalid so i changed the date backa year on advice from someone & it worked but then it stated that the device was incompatible, so i researched & found that was happening to most with devices that should have ran it but someone had advised to make some change to the 'batch.prop' file to fool the game to think it was a different device. I may have accidentally changed something in the batch file that caused this. i can't be certain but yeh, when i rebooted my tablet it got stuck @ the Acer logo in bootloop.
I tried recovery & did a factory reset & it acted like it was working but when i rebooted my device it still bootlooped. I then did some research & i tried to flash the stock rom but got errors each time i tried. i'll list the errors below;
i started off trying to flash the 'system.gz' file as follows;

Download this to your computer and unzip it. Don't unzip the system folder in the zip file. Open fastboot and do fastboot flash boot (the boot img) then once that's done, do fastboot flash fastboot (fastboot img) then do fastboot flash recovery (recovery img) and then do fastboot reboot-bootloader. Then do fastboot flash system (system img.gz). Then on the tablet using the volume keys and the power button, go to recovery and wipe data then reboot, now it should be done!

Then I try to start the tablet but just get a quick flash of the USB symbol and nothing else. I've tried various things but I'm not sure if I'm missing something here or not. Can anyone suggest anything? This is driving me crazy.

I am not sure but by now you must have probably fixed it but try to boot into recovery and wipe data and reboot. That usually fixes bootloops upon flashing stock roms *ehum*samsung*ehum*, never the less, it also worked for me in my acer and I am back and running!
big thanks! tablet is booting fine again

YAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!! Ah, I remember when I was stuck in a bootloop (and was a noob at android) so I took it down to the shop and they gave me a new one, then it happend again and I got another one for free! But as always, I'm so glad it worked!
I'm also having the FAILED (remote: flash_cmds error!) error. I have tried to do the steps in the specified order in the comments and I still get the error.
Can anyone help me?

Reboot droidboot and try flashing the 4.2.2 image, also, try flashing in this order (boot, fastboot, recovery, system).
Hit thanks if I helped.

Is the 4.2.2 image the Acer_AV0K0_A1-830_1.006.00_WW_GEN1_FLASHPKG version?
If so, I got the exact same error.

Have you wiped data? Also, reboot droidboot and make sure fastboot recognizes the device. Maybe you can try adb pushing the files via fastboot oem startftm command.

How are you trying to access droidboot? You can't hang on logo if you don't have droidboot (it's the bootloader mate).

Be very careful as you have almost destroyed your phone. It's best to use this utility:

lost101 is absolutely correct. Are you trying to flash the stock 5.1 firmware for your specific device? I am guessing no seeing as how your motoboit IMG is in a .zilp format.

Wow, you are completelly correct, I didnt even realise... unzipped and there was a .img file inside though it seems it is for the x1032?
What is the best place to download the correct bootloader?
Download the latest XT1039 5.1 Factory Firmware Image. You will find the bootloader file inside: motoboot.img
Fastboot command:
fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
