So when I connect the otg cable and my pendrive, in the notification bar the external storage notification comes, but when I click on that it says empty disc or unsupported content. But I have still checked with just one video file and its still not opening. nor es file explorer can detect my pendrive. And even after I remove the pendrive the notification is still there and it doesn't go until I reboot my phone. Please help.

What format is the pendrive? I'm don't think the Moto G supports anything other than FAT32.
When I plug in my USBkey with an OTG cable nothing happen on my Moto G, no notification at all, nothing more in storage
This was working great on my Ascend P6 and on my LG GPAD8.3
I'm on stock GPE firmware, any help ? I don't want to use third party apps, just want the stock otg support
What FS does your flashdrive has?As you've been told above, make sure it's in FAT32 and not NTFS, exFAT or something else.

It is FAT32
ES file explorer show me a dozen of "usbdisk_1.0" "usbdick_1.1" ... "usbdisk_1.7"
Tried with multiples files explorer
Tried Stickmount OTG, no sucess
Try with another flash drive then, see if that works.
btw. which model if Moto G you've got and is it on KK 176.44.1?

All Moto G's have OTG support, not all have OTG USB storage support....
GPE Moto G - Don't know - possibly not as Nexus devices don't without 3rd party app (Nexus Media Importer)
Single Sim Moto G variants (maybe not all) - on original Jelly Bean Roms yes, the initial OTA to KitKat removed support without third party app, recent OTA to 176.44.1 (174.44.1 for US models) added it back again.
Dual Sim Moto G variants (maybe not all) - as far as I can tell from forum posts have always had OTG USB support.
Yeah I have just checked.it is ntfs. is there a way to determine the file system of a pendrive before buying?or can I change this to fat32??

long press on notification. app settings>> force close
no more annoying notification display
alternatively you can reboot to get rid if that notification
Sorry for open old thread.
I have motot G 4G (UK retail, 4.4.4) - when i connect USB pen drive trought OTG cable; no notification in notifications bar, but in config -> storage is visible & filemanager (Solid Explorer) can see it like USB disc 1 and i can work with it - but all apps installed on SD card are not aviatible and their icons are changed to green robot (screenshot) and i must restart phone.
How i can "fix" this problem?
Thanks, T.

After I herd that Moto G can use OTG technology I've bought this pendrive Transcend JetFlash 380 8GB to extend memory of the phone. But now I'm sad because the pendrive and the application provided by Transcend(Transcend Elite) won't see my pendrive other applications such as TotalCommander with plugin sees it. But I would like to have native application to work. Especially that the Moto G is on compatibility list on Transcend web page and the app lets you open, copy and save the files on pendrive. I don't know what to do.
It' didn't work on JB and now after update to Kitkat.
I've talked with moto care assistant and she said that otg pendrive should work with extra app.
Question to the users:
Has somebody used the micro usb pendrive directly with Moto G without any OTG wire?
If it says it's compatible on the website I would contact the support on the site, and ask them for help. That's what they're there for.
Good luck!

Yeah I already did that. They gave me crappy solution that did not help. So I replied about this and told about compatibility and fixing it.Still waiting.
That sucks man. I'm sorry I can't be of any further assistance.
Good luck with it. They really should help you.

Regarding Transcend jet flash 380 Compatibility with Moto G...
i purchased moto g dual sim version...i need an otg pendrive for use with moto g...i shortlisted two pen drives 1. transcend jet flash 380 , 2. Sandisk ultra dual...i have some doubts..can we use transcend jet flash 380 with moto G using any file explorer...can we do read and write operations with any file explorer (eg ES file explorer) on transcend jet flash 380...I like transcend than sandisk because of its small size..please help...
Transcend works with third part apps but I am waiting for update from Motorola which probably fix the otg on kitkat. So stay tuned.

is (16) it working fine with moto g dusl sim 16gb?
try unmount and mount pendrive again in settings.
go to settings>storage>unmount otg , then mount again pendrive . now open file manager and try using pendrive,
this works for me .
My moto g 16gb arrives tomorrow. OTG USB is very important to me. I've read that kit Kat disable the functionality. I know there are a lot a third party work around apps that get the job done but I'd prefer a kernel that does so. Is anyone aware of one? I can't find it listed anywhere. Thank!

There is a Motorola update coming that fixes OTA in Kit Kat should be here any day now.
OTA in KitKat is natively integrated by Motorola. No app needed. There is setting for it in storage settings.
Its working on kitkat

Depends on which variant you have - it seems that the single sim variants don't have native support for OTG USB Storage under 4.4.2 (they do for other OTG USB pheripals), but as another poster mentioned it looks like an OTA may be on the way to rectify this.

German OTA is already in the wild and the UK should come soon too.

If your device is rooted ... then in my opinion ...(if it should be a third party app) best thing is stickmount ..
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.stickmount
Using the dual sim XT033, the Kitkat update retains the USB OTG functionality and has storage dismount and format options in the storage menu. You can now even write on the mounted storage now.
One word of caution. USB OTG works on FAT32 (files less than 4GB) but not for NTFS. For NTFS you'll have to root. Maybe a more experienced user can tell us what Linux partitions are supported without root for filesizes >4GB.
Anyone has an idea about using USB Mass Storage with Moto G ? I mean mount internal storage for example in Total Commander as drive like pendrive.
NTFS does work without root if you've installed Total Commander with USB Stick Plugin :good:
Since the new German OTA (176.44.1) the phone wants to format all NTFS drives, and if you unplug it there will be a Notification stating "USB drive not inserted"
Didn't try to use fat32 yet...

You could have searched instead of creating new thread for the question which is already answered "n" number of time...
NTFS file system does not work with stock moto g (when it does not detect NTFS it cannot format to fat32 also)
Format ur pen drive to FAT32 using "PC" then you can connect

Hi,
This is my first post so bear with me ...
I have recently purchased Moto G and was trying out OTG functionality. I have brought a USB 3.0 16gb pen drive and formatted it in FAT32 File system and trying to connect to Moto G using a OTG cable (USB 2.0) but it is giving an error "USB storage is blank or has unsupported filesystem"
I recently tried out with 8gb USB 2.0 pen drive an it was working fine.
Can you please advice what could be the issue here and how to fix this?
Thanks,
Mukund

I believe the 16gb USB3.0 pen drive you have is backwards compatible I.e, it also supports USB2.0
Then the problem is with the file system of the pendrive ... Stock moto g ROMs doesn't detect NTFS USB devices... You should change it to fat32 and try

Thanks, But I already have FAT32 as the file system for my pen drive. Is there is a posibility that Moto g / OTG cable doesn't have capability to transfer date as 3.0 speeds or backward compatibility should take care of it ?
Will it help if I have a OTG-USB 3.0 cable, or it will also have the same issue may be due to Moto G limitation?
Thanks,
Mukund

As your phone supports USB 2.0, I think that's why you are facing problem with USB 3. pen drive.
As far I know, USB port is related to hardware. So, probably you won't be able to upgrade your USB 2.0 to USB 3.0, but I am not sure.

hmm..It is possible, But I am not sure what is the phone capability. I thought moto G may have support for connecting to USB 3.0 using OTG-USB 3.0 cable, which is recently introduced in market. I did some google research on the same but could not find out if there is some intrinsic limitation of Moto G with USB 3.0..
I have moto g 2014 which is on stock with no root.
And thats the only mobile i got with otg support at home, but since its new i cant root it as i dont want to end warranty.
Now the thing is my PC hard drive is busted and i want to install Ubuntu in my spare drive, i downloaded and transfered Ubuntu from phone to otg pendrive, since my pendrive has malicious autorun.inf i cant use autorun of ubuntu, when i try to delete it it regenerate and system cannot detect bootable pendrive. Is there way to remove that autorun.inf or format PD ?
