[Q] Probam v4.4.9b jfltetmo no Keyboard on new flash - General Questions and Answers

First I have to say I really like the look and feel of this rom and really want to use it.
when I flash the ROM initially from a fresh install, when the setup comes up it says the Google keyboard (AOSP) has stopped and I have no keyboard to set up my phone with. not being able to set up my Google account so that I can download my contacts list and stuff or set up my WiFi during the setup. if I skip all the setup steps I can eventually install a keyboard, my preferred keyboard is the a.i. Keyboard. it works most of the time but I will still occasionally get the error that the google keyboard has stopped even though I don't have it selected as the default keyboard. This is the one thing preventing me from using this ROM, because everything else I use works perfectly in there, which is more than I can say about other ROMS. Can anyone tell me how to fix this one thing?
thanks:good:

[Q] Sky ICS - Google Voice won't allow request

So i installed the Sky ICS version 6.9.2z update and i still can't google voice to work, it hasn't worked since i installed Sky ICS at all... well it installs fine and everything but everytime it goes to allow google request when i hit the allow button it locks up for 10 seconds or so and crashes back to the home screen, it doesn't say force close or anything like that. I have tried clearing caches permissions and everything i can think of... why won't it let me allow request? also, visual voicemail doesn't every work either says incorrect password but i really don't want that anyway... i want Google Voice! So, if anyone has any ideas i could try please let me know, i would greatly appreciate it!
I've also had this problem. I think I fixed it by going to Settings > Call and make sure the voicemail service is "My Carrier" then set it back as Google voice.
If that didn't work uninstall google voice, go to Settings > Call and make sure the voicemail service is "My Carrier" then install google voice again and run through the setup. Should solve it.
I followed the steps you suggested but i still cannot get it to work... the carrier is set as google voice but when i click voice it just tries to go through the setup again and crashes. If i click google voice setting under settings>call>voicemail - settings for Google Voice it just runs through the setup again...Thank you for your suggestions though!
Have you tried the manual settings given on google voice settings page.
I think something like enter ##0040# press call and it will forward...
Yeah, i did manually put those numbers in and got confirmation that it was forwarding to my phone but google voice itself still just crashes when i get allow this request and "click" Allow it freezes for like 10 seconds goes black screen for several seconds then back at the home screen... then next time i click google voice it goes back to the setup again.
I think that everyone has the notification error where it says that the update was unsuccessful. After I see that I always click on my google voice number then back out and it just works. But it sounds like your program is crashing before you even get the unsuccessful msg.
Try moving your GV apk to the internal SD after you wipe data then uninstall from the applications page. In fact goto applications page from settings find GV wipe data, then uninstall and boot to recovery. Now in recovery wipe dalvik x2, wipe cache partition x2, reboot android and goto into rom manager and fix permisions. then goto the market my apps and download GV to install GV either to the internal SD card or the external SD if u have.. point is to try a different path.
If none of that works then I suggest that you re format your internal SD and system but make sure to have your base ROM waiting within reach of CWM.
If you end up going this route then take your time and DO NOT use TitaniumBackup for anything, and uncheck restore system from within the privacy page. Build your foundation slowly on top of the fresh format and back up that solid base with only essentials to cwm.
best of luck
Well, i followed all that and still get the same thing... i was hoping it wouldn't come to starting over but Voice is important to me. It worked just fine on every ROM on my captivate grr so frustrating... My main concern is i don't know how i can do any cleaner of an install than i just did... i just got the phone and never set up the stock ROM at all and the first thing i did is follow the SKY ICS don't complain about FCs guide to get it as clean as possible and then i installed the ROM... There was no backup or restoring anything except i guess from whatever google settings were backed up. I might have to try a different ROM. Well, thanks for all your guys help!
So i downloaded and installed gReader last night and this also has the same Allow Request screen... this freezes, crashes back to home screen just like google voice so it has nothing to do with google voice itself, there is something very wrong... i feel like it has trouble getting permission from my gmail account?
Just an update, i did a format/clean install without anything backed up... Now it all works!
nice! Format, fresh install.. did you uncheck 'backup to Google' in privacy tab?
that was the straw that broke the stubborn androids back from my experience.

actually i was debating back and forth but yes i decided to keep backup checked and keep whatever google has backed up and fortunately everything works flawlessly so far!

[Q] Voice Search Resetting

So I'm having a really strange issue. I got my Atrix 2 a few weeks ago after owning the OG since it launched. I'm currently running 2.3.6 Stock Deodexed installed via CWM restore in bootstrap. Everything is working fine, except this: the Voice Search app, which I use a lot, continually reverts itself to default settings. As long as the app is running, it behaves normally, but when I kill the process, reboot the phone, or too much time passes, it seems to wipe out its own data. As a result, nearly every time I use it, I get this first run dialog asking me if I want to enable personalized recognition and a tutorial overlay. I've selected both options multiple times and the issue persists. A few things:
1) I'm not sure if this has been happening since the beginning, because I've been rooted and deodexed in some form or fashion since the 2nd day I had it. I don't remember initially having a problem, though. Maybe someone running straight stock with no mods could test this?
2) I use local data encryption for both the SD Card and the app storage, as required by my corporate exchange server. That's the only thing I can think of that might be causing this.
3) I've reinstalled the app multiple times.
4) It seems like Voice Search can't be moved to the SD card.
Anyone else having this problem?

s a matter of fact, I have had it happen to me a couple of times too. I'm running lfabor's SC_V5 Update 2 though.
Now I shall reply to you statements / questions:
When I was running stock 2.3.5 or 2.3.6 I didn't have this issue.
I do not use encryption as its not required for my corporate sync (nor is my phone a company phone)
I have not tried to reinstall it, as I dont use very often, and only had to he issue happen a couple of times. This is also because lfabor placed it in the
system directory, and I've been to lazy to move it out.
The reason it can't be moved to SD is because the SD storage has to be enabled by the developer of the app.
Also note I am using swiftkey X for my keyboard, but if you are having issues with stock I don't think swiftkey is to blame.
I have not
I have had this issue TONS of times on a 100% stock not even rooted phone. I think there is just something screwed up, I dont think it's because of anything you did. My SD card is not encrypted, and I am also using Swiftkey X (but I doubt its swiftkey X). Infact I think it even used to happen before I started using swiftkey x.
I have the same issue, and I'm also using Swiftkey X. I'm sensing a pattern...
While I haven't empirically tested enough, I think the voice search might be resetting every time that Swiftkey gets updated (like with new language files, since that seems to happen quite often).
I'll try to keep track to see if there's a link there.

I'm not using SwiftKey, but I do use the ICS keyboard, so I tried uninstalling it and freezing Swype for good measure. It didn't seem to affect things, at least on my end.
I'm having the same problem. I installed the swiftkey x keyboard to give it a try but uninstalled it when I didn't like it. Have had the problems even since the uninstall. Currently using the stock keyboard with stock rom rooted.

[Q] Problems having on CM9 Nightlies

Recently I've flashed CM9 nightly 20120427 on my LGE730 Optimus Sol.
I've spotted a problem that whenever the phone is trying to show any autofill suggestions,
like when you search in the Google Play or typing url in DolphinBrowser HD,
the phone will freeze and I have to remove the battery in order to restart.
I've found threads that told me to install and use a third party keyboard.
But nothing changes even I'm using GO keyboard and remove the stock one.
I don't know why it would happen but I hope there is a working solution.
Please help.

Removed keyboard and factory reset my phone, can't access it now.

Well, today the play store suddenly stopped working. It kept saying no connection. Had tried everything, and a few hours later it showed that I needed to authenticate my account or something. Still wouldn't work, so I just went for a factory reset.
Well here's the problem. I'm using Karbonn A2+, and for those who have this phone, they'll know it is PAINFULLY slow. So I removed a lot of stuff off /system earlier (android keyboard, browser, calender, camera, file manager, music, gallery etc) in hopes to increase internal memory and speed up the phone a bit.
Now, I'm only left with Messaging, Contacts, Phone, Playstore, Settings, Sim toolkit and sound recorder. No android stock keyboard.
I'd try connecting to my wifi but there is no keyboard to type my password into. File manager is gone so I can't install any apps. No google account on my phone and no keyboard so google play is useless. SuperSU is gone.
No dev has made CWM for Karbonn a2+ either.
Any help is appreciated.
Try to find a keyboard wich can be installed via cwm.
Something like that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1175651 may be possible.
No guarantee...
Please close the topic, I turned over every internet-rock and finally found mtk drivers for this phone and a stock rom. Flashed it using SP Flash Tool, and finally all's good. =}
@SaschaBr Thanks for the reply! But I have stated in OP that cwm is not available on my device...
Ok, sorry,I didn't realy read the last lines. :silly:
Just remember: NEVER remove the android keyboard from the system. xD I did this once and had to go onto google play with a bluetooth keyboard and download a keyboard app, then move it into the system. That's now my sister's phone. It wasnt a good phone anyway xD

Google Keyboard Gboard stop running

Hi guys,
I just got my 8T and it is a China set. Therefore I flash it to India rom to get Google services. However I have issues to configure my Gboard (Google keyboard). Whenever I try to configure my keyboard like adding more language, it will back to the previous screen and prompt me the stop running message.
I have tried to uninstall /clear cache/update/ restart/ install apk from external resources etc.
None of it worked. I still encounter this issue.
Does anyone facing this issue. And how to fix this issue. I like Gboard so much I wish I could continue use this keyboard instead of installing a new keyboard as an alternative solution.
