[Q] Updating Bookmarks in Stock Browser - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi all, sorry about the lengthy post but I would appreciate any feedback on a feature.
Is there a way to change how the stock browser saves bookmarks? For existing bookmarks, it would be great to have an option of updating a bookmark rather than saving a new bookmark. What I mean is this:
1. I have a bookmark for page 6 on CROMBi-kk thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672751&page=6)
2. When I saved the bookmark, page 6 was the last page on this thread.
3. Later, new posts on the thread have pushed the last page to, say, page 8.
4. To bookmark the latest last page (page 8), I would delete my bookmark to page 6 and save a new bookmark to page 8.
5. Is there a way to configure the browser so that if I try to bookmark page 8, the browser recognizes that I already have a bookmark to page 6 on the same thread and then offers me the option of updating my page-6 bookmark to make it a page-8 bookmark? This would remove the extra step of deleting old bookmarks.
A poor alternative to having the latest page to a thread bookmarked is to modify the page=# to a large number. So if I edit my bookmark to (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672751&page=999), then when I click on it it'll go to the latest page, whether it be page 6, page 8, or page 600 (assuming it's less than 1000). The problem with this method is that ideally I would like to go back to the latest page I had read, and then update the bookmark once I've finished reading the latest last page of a thread.
If there is no way to configure the browser to have this update bookmark functionality, is this something that could be coded into our browser? I've been wanting to jump into some android coding, and if the experts here think this is a doable-project for a newbie, I would love to try my hands at it.
Thanks!

While your idea surely makes sense, I've never seen it in any browser, desktop or mobile.

Why don't you simply use the link with "goto=newpost"? This does exactly what you want.

I have installed and it's rather nice, data usage more than mini bout 2.5x on large pages, it's quick on page load, it's got a neat cube effect for history, got tabed browsing trying to get used to as it has no open in new tab, can't work out how to get to home page without closing or setting as bookmark. Oh and a mouse pointer like mimi.

yeah, the home page thing is goofy. other than that i love it. i turned off that page overview though. it was annoying me. so far it's very fast. i might use this over opera.

you are a gentleman and a scholar.
i appreciate the quick run down. i guess ill give it a shot...
edit: hahah jeez..i make it sound like its manual labor to download and install....it must be monday...or im that damn lazy and unmotivated.
forgot to mention: i'm running the t-zones on t-mobile.
hmmm, other than having to get use to it and no obvious active zoom in and out buttons...i like it.
Also I'm gonna try and tweak the registry a bit...the scrollbars are WAY too thick.
can't find the registry settings...any help?
it looks like there is code available on the download page. that's not really my area though.

Yeah it was hardcore having to install that .cab, Just wanna congratulate you on your sticky that's slick.
After a bit of use i would say it's nice and free, but does not compare to Opera Mobile or Mini, i could see in the future it could with a little bit of tweaking, Home Page, Open in new tab.
Will keep it on phone and hope updates solve this.

If your new, what you do is use this button called "Search" button. Every site I have registered for, and trust me - when i say every site, i mean a lot of them be it mobile, car etc. How is that I've always been able to find my way by using the "search" button but most new users will not do that. Give the search button a try and just see the results, almost everything has been gone over.
Welcome to the site and Enjoy your stay here.
To answer your question, it's because you need to install TCPMP (A Media Player with special flash codecs) or search for vTAP for you to play youtube videos. Good Luck!
P.S: Noone is trying to be rude or mean, it's just that some members get ticked off because everyday we have newbies coming in and asking the same questions. Go through the first few stickies and you'll find that almost all your questions have been answered.
i do have tcpmp installed but it still comes up with error i did search but it came up with irelevent answers like unrecognised usb etcs
i think ill give the iris a miss

Request: Browser Widget

Is it possible to create a widget which displays a web page? Even if it was just view-only?
We use Gmail/GApps for work, and I have a Blackberry that gets email pushed to it from the server. I'd like to ditch the Blackberry and only carry my Shift, but then the only way to know if I have new email on my work account is to open the browser and refresh the page. I can't just add it as another google account, because it requires special authentication through a corporate page, but once I authenticate in the browser, I'm all good. It would be great if I could just have a widget that would show that web page and refresh periodically, maybe even have a refresh button on it. And maybe clicking on it would just open the browser to that page.
I thought that the Sense bookmarks widget might provide this, but it doesn't really seem to update.
I don't know but this certainly is the wrong section for this. This belongs in QnA. General rule of thumb: unless it's some hack/mod/ROM that you've created and maintain then it don't belong in Development. An idea for a mod/hack/ROM doesn't count. I wouldn't worry about creating a new thread though as a Mod will probably move it for you soon
ALL HAIL OTAKING71, THE RAPER OF HBOOT!!!
EDIT: Now that I think about it, doesn't the Sense widget refresh the thumbnail image whenever you go to that site? If so couldn't you use something like Tasker to periodically open that page so that the widget thumbnail refreshes?

*sigh* Sorry. I even read the sticky at the top of this forum, but I hadn't really seen any other requests like this, and I figured since it was a request for development that maybe development was where it went. My bad.

I do believe that opening the page might cause a refresh, but I'm not certain that's 100% reliable. I think I played around with that idea some and didn't always get a refresh. If it does, that's a decent workaround. A self-updating widget, however, would be awesome.
Yes this definately the wrong section for this question. But thst being said, why don't you just add your work Gmail account to your Shift? Don't know what Rom your using. But I do know that on MikShifted G and Supreme Sence, you can have more than one Google account. If I'm understanding right, that would solve your issue. You would then just treat it like any other Email account. Set the update interval lower.

Because with the corporate authentication required, the normal Gmail mechanisms don't work. I have to go to a special single sign-on page, then get a certificate, then to the Gmail page. Once the browser has the cert in memory, though, it can reload the page all it likes.

Yeah, I've seen that one. That's just a widget that will, "Start а Browser, Compass, Google Maps,Market with one click." I don't know why someone created that and felt it was better than a shortcut, but that's effectively all it is.

move bookmarks from stock android browser to chrome beta

Hello everyone. I have an un-rooted Xoom and did not see this question posted anywhere, so I thought I'd ask it here:
Is there a way to move the bookmarks from the stock android browser to chrome beta (both on the Xoom) without the use of a desktop to sync?
Thanks for your help!
No one's had this issue?
Seriously?!!

I don't think you can. However, you can extract the bookmarks from the stock browser by following the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475892
and import them into chrome. I haven't done this, so I do not know which format the extracted bookmarks would be in.

Found this thread thru Google, because exact same problem also bothered me.
Nobody came up with a simple solution for Tetragrammaton?
Well if anybdoy else is wondering:
No, there is no direct approach, only thru the Google's cloud (no desktop PC needed).
Go into stock Android ICS Browser and then menu->Bookmarks->long click on a bookmark you want it synced and then choose "Edit" and there you'll see "Account:" change from "Local" to your Google's account.
You'll will have to go thru this process for all of your bookmarked links. :/
If you don't want to wait in order for the bookmarks to sync go into Settings->Accounts & Sync->your Google account->uncheck+check Browser and let it sync; and then uncheck+check Chrome and let it sync.
All done!

I know this is a motorola tablet thread, but the answer should be the same. This is very simple on my galaxy S3. Open chrome, hit menu button, go to settings, then hit the menu button again, another sub-menu will pop up with a direct import bookmarks option, click that and from there its pretty self explanatory. Hope that works on your tablet.

How To - Load full desktop websites permanently in Chrome for Android Mobile

Hey guys, I wrote an article over on our site that shows a quick walkthrough on how to display full desktop websites permanently on Chrome for Android Mobile so that you don't have to visit the mobile site, then hit "request desktop site" button any more. Considering Chrome is an awesome browser with full sync, and works very well on Jelly Bean, this might be of use to all of you. I know I was sick of having to constantly click the button.

works!
I need to add from my personal experience, however, that when you try and download the file as part of the guide, your brower may add a ".bin" (for Chrome mobile) or ".txt" (default Android browser) on the end of the filename. This modification appears to not work if this .bin/.txt is present so delete that bit, only leaving "chrome-command-line" as the file name.
Also, for those whos root explorer of choice has letters rather than numbers for permissions, 755 is rwxr-xr-x

Thanks for the feedback! I'll go add that in there right away.
Edit: Added in a Heads up message :
Heads up:
If the file downloads anything other than a blank file (eg: chrome-command-line.txt, chrome-command-line.bin) then rename it to only “chrome-command-line” and paste it in the correct location.
Thanks again!

how to download a full thread in any forum for offline reading ?

hi i always have problems in internet because of my traveling, thats why i always download custom roms whenever i get a chance and also it's first page of thread for any info i might need when i install that rom.
but i found that sometimes solutions to problems are found if you read full thread, so i got this idea of why not download a full thread for later use specially if i can in pdf format.
i searched google for it, there are many old questions of this kind but no i couldn't find any solutions.
i found httrack, it looks good but its far too complicated for a user like me, can anyone have a look at httrack and tell me how can i use it on xda?
or if there is any special software for xda which can download whole thread with images please?
any help would be appreciated,
no one?
I am looking for the same answer. I want to be respectful before just posting a question but some threads have 30-80 pages and there is always refer back to some other prior posts so I have not found a good way to catch up on a thread. I have tried reading from the end and going back 3-6 pages but I suspect there is something along the way in pages 20, or 38 or 43 that is relevant. If there is no solution, then newbies end up posting at the end of thread with what others view as lazy and not reading the thread. How in the heck do you download the thread so I can do a faster read?
{Mod edit: Quoted post has been deleted}
no, thats not what i am trying to achieve, i want a full thread to be downloaded, like with all pages it have, so i can read offline all the pages. i can't save as every page if a thread has hundreds of pages. so it's not practical.
but thanks for you input. i would wait for someone who might know a way...

To be honest, I doubt XDA itself will want this kind of function to be availble because it is funded by various ads, ads that can only be seen and only generate funds when actively online.

I think what user wants is... getting an XML with all post texts including poster name/info (though it means attachments cannot get) as in when trying to extract all PMs from XDA site as an XML file.
That would be very long and huge size on 2000-10000 paged threads (even with 10 posts per page). But that could be very practical if possible

I understand but unfortunately it's not possible. The best way is to change settings to show 50 posts per page and use Chrome (or similar) to "print" and "save as" pdf :good:

Try loading the page, then right click in the page then choose the "select all" option to highlight all the text on the page, then copy the text, then create a new text file, then paste the copied text in the file, you'll have to do this with each page of the thread.
Or, you can use screen record and scroll through the pages and posts while recording.
