Hello everyone. I have an un-rooted Xoom and did not see this question posted anywhere, so I thought I'd ask it here:
Is there a way to move the bookmarks from the stock android browser to chrome beta (both on the Xoom) without the use of a desktop to sync?
Thanks for your help!
No one's had this issue?
Seriously?!!

I don't think you can. However, you can extract the bookmarks from the stock browser by following the steps in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=475892
and import them into chrome. I haven't done this, so I do not know which format the extracted bookmarks would be in.

Found this thread thru Google, because exact same problem also bothered me.
Nobody came up with a simple solution for Tetragrammaton?
Well if anybdoy else is wondering:
No, there is no direct approach, only thru the Google's cloud (no desktop PC needed).
Go into stock Android ICS Browser and then menu->Bookmarks->long click on a bookmark you want it synced and then choose "Edit" and there you'll see "Account:" change from "Local" to your Google's account.
You'll will have to go thru this process for all of your bookmarked links. :/
If you don't want to wait in order for the bookmarks to sync go into Settings->Accounts & Sync->your Google account->uncheck+check Browser and let it sync; and then uncheck+check Chrome and let it sync.
All done!

I know this is a motorola tablet thread, but the answer should be the same. This is very simple on my galaxy S3. Open chrome, hit menu button, go to settings, then hit the menu button again, another sub-menu will pop up with a direct import bookmarks option, click that and from there its pretty self explanatory. Hope that works on your tablet.

I found a shortcut called Downloads that shows you the downloaded files and I am able to browse to them. Is there a way to specify the default location to download the files to?
I would like to download to \Removable\Micro SD\.
Also, when I come to XDA forums and try to search forum, as soon as I click the search field, the keypad pops up and disappears immediately... any one experiencing this?
Firefox keep crashing so I am sticking to the default browser it came with. Any recommendations?
Thanks for your feedback.
anyone pls?
I have also tried to change the download location without success. Not sure if there is a way change that.
Not having any issues with the keyboard disappearing when searching on XDA forums.
I use Dolphin HD Browers mainly for xmarks and lastpass addons.

Hi,
I can't post in the main thread so hopefully someone sees this. i'm trying to use the Chrome-to-mobile extension on my desktop to send links to my xoom, but it's not doing anything. i have all the settings correct i think. is this just something that doesn't work on roms? i never got to try it on stock before flashing.
i tried googling and searching but looking for the words "chrome" and "mobile" doesn't exactly provide great results!
thanks!!!
i dont know if this would help but if you install chrome beta on your xoom, and your signed into google on your pc, if you open chrome on xoom, then at bottom it shows you other devices that are signed in to your account and any open tabs that are open on your comp, maybe not what your looking for but thought it might help
Did you try checking your settings in Chrome Mobile? I believe there is an option for Chrome to Mobile, and it just may be disabled.
Hope that helps
Thanks! I will check on the notification. I have everything checked tho. Unfortunately the issue now is I deleted my Xoom as a printer from my docs site and now it won't recognize a new device!

On the old browser I was able to save bookmarks to my Google account but after updating to jelly bean I only see local bookmarks. Does anyone know of a way to get the other bookmarks to appear? When I first opened the browser it did pop up for authorization to connect to Gmail

I have the same issue. Is this a bug or feature?
Looks like a glorious new feature. I came to this forum hoping to find a fix for this, but since seeing others with this problem my hopes have been dashed. Anyone suggest a good third party solution? Stock browser loads soooo much faster than Chrome that jumping through hoops for bookmarks is worth it.
This new "feature" was bugging me at first too but I found a work around with APW from the app store. Just download the app and put the bookmark widget on your home screen configure it to use chrome's bookmarks. But when you tap on the bookmark on the widget it'll actually ask you what browser you want to use and you can set the default for the stock browser. So now I can just tap on any of the bookmarks that was orignally on chrome and it will open in the stock browser
Great idea Napkun. Since I already have APW, I'll go ahead and do it.
That being said, has anybody found a fix yet? Stock browser is so much faster than Chrome.
Use cmarks to import chrome bookmarks in stock browser.
The problem I'm discovering with the solutions proposed so far is that none of them really bring back the sync ability. What happens when I'm in the stock browser and want to book-mark? You have to copy the URL, nav into the third party tool or Chrome itself to add the item. Rather clunky. The closest I've found to replicating the old sync ability is GMarks, but that project seems to have been abandoned over a year ago just before adding ICS support. It was open source so perhaps someone with time on their hands could pick it up and push it over the goal line.
This issue has really been bothering me. There is no reason to exclude the Google bookmarks. One of the main reasons I got an android tablet was the ability to sync everything that I have on my nexus phone. This and the locked bootloader issue have me considering returning this tablet.

Man, I would love to try that solution, but I've never installed Browser2Ram under Jelly Bean!
Maybe I should try installing it just to un-install it! You never know...
EDIT: Man, for some reason, I thought I read that Browser2RAM didn't work properly on Jelly Bean, but it seems to make the stock browser much faster! I think I'll just leave it installed at this point!

I'm using browser2ram with Chrome. When I hit bookmarks, I have 3 folders: 1. Destop bookmarks(global imported from my pc), 2. Other bookmarks(nothing inside), 3. mobile bookmarks (my local tablet bookmarks). Is this what you're talking about??? I don't understand why browser2ram make your bookmarks disappear?
Here is the chrome bookmark sync file. You can install it as usual or move it to system/apps as long as you set permissions rwxrxrx

Hi all, sorry about the lengthy post but I would appreciate any feedback on a feature.
Is there a way to change how the stock browser saves bookmarks? For existing bookmarks, it would be great to have an option of updating a bookmark rather than saving a new bookmark. What I mean is this:
1. I have a bookmark for page 6 on CROMBi-kk thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672751&page=6)
2. When I saved the bookmark, page 6 was the last page on this thread.
3. Later, new posts on the thread have pushed the last page to, say, page 8.
4. To bookmark the latest last page (page 8), I would delete my bookmark to page 6 and save a new bookmark to page 8.
5. Is there a way to configure the browser so that if I try to bookmark page 8, the browser recognizes that I already have a bookmark to page 6 on the same thread and then offers me the option of updating my page-6 bookmark to make it a page-8 bookmark? This would remove the extra step of deleting old bookmarks.
A poor alternative to having the latest page to a thread bookmarked is to modify the page=# to a large number. So if I edit my bookmark to (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672751&page=999), then when I click on it it'll go to the latest page, whether it be page 6, page 8, or page 600 (assuming it's less than 1000). The problem with this method is that ideally I would like to go back to the latest page I had read, and then update the bookmark once I've finished reading the latest last page of a thread.
If there is no way to configure the browser to have this update bookmark functionality, is this something that could be coded into our browser? I've been wanting to jump into some android coding, and if the experts here think this is a doable-project for a newbie, I would love to try my hands at it.
Thanks!

While your idea surely makes sense, I've never seen it in any browser, desktop or mobile.

Why don't you simply use the link with "goto=newpost"? This does exactly what you want.

Those little arrows next to peoples names... Always take you to the latest post.
Am I the only one who knows about hitting user cp to get all under subscribed threads? Lol.
I just want to read my emails and my calendar from my galaxy s7 edge, but my university makes it difficult by requesting that we all to use Inportal on our phones, which I don't want to install due to huge battery drains and slowing that my colleagues have experienced.
I can easily circumvent the problem with google chrome by just going into the desktop mode and voila! I have everything I want.
It even saves all of my log in information too so it is perfect!!! EXCEPT...google chrome always wants to default back to the android mode which is blocked by my university since it is not seen as a desktop. When I save the site to my home screen as an icon to get into my email, it defaults back to android but I have no way to change it back to desktop
My question....Either how can I keep my google chrome to be on the desktop setting and not revert to android. Note that I am NOT rooted, but almost always my login information is already entered.
There are lots of apps that will let me default to the desktop browser but they won't save my username and password, which is a pain because our passwords have to be very difficult to type in all the time.
A browser that would allow me to save my login information so I don't have to re type it AND default to desktop browser would be ideal!! Any suggestions?
Sorry if in the wrong forum and thanks for helping!!
Mike
Google chrome does it to my phone and opera gets synchronized but I wouldn't suggest especially password. I always decline that option. It's too risky. But if you still wanna take the risk it's better to use opera and go to synchronization options...[emoji2]

I tried Opera but I uninstalled it. Maybe I didn't use the synchronization options. How would I go about that?
First, Make an opera account. Then Log in to your Opera account on ALL devices. B4 u log out u 'll see the browser data sync automatically. If not, go to data sync.
Make sure u click from the options the 'on the go' if its not by default.
If anything doesnt work properly visit Opera help page to see if on your pc or mobile is an any option disabled.
Good luck!

Hello,
Firefox saves passwords and users, but you need to press the request each time you want to change to desktop but it's easy you don't need to scroll.

Puffin is the perfect browser for this
You can set the pages to load in desktop mode by default and supports flashplayer
Also save password once logged in
Must give it a try!!

I tried the one for Firefox. The only problem with that is it it always looks like the desktop view when I look at it. All the other ones I try login as a desktop view but they'll steal look like the Android view which I want. Firefox I could never get to do that. But thank you!
What happened exactly?
Reboot phone and try to reopen it
