My problem is that i'm using another app than the camera to capture video and pictures into the DCIM folder. Thus Android doesn't pickup new pics and video in the DCIM folder.
to fix this, I need to run "dev tools > media provider > scan sd card" to fresh. or reboot he phone to force a refresh each time. Then i'm able to see everything in gallery etc...
Is there a way to force this media scan to happen every 1hr? ie in the build.prop or something? I do have root access..
thanks.
A simple solution would be to use QuickPic. It's better than the stock gallery app in all aspects imho
+1 for QuickPic

hi all,
just wondering whether some of you noticed the lag in loading the gallery?
or just after taking a picture, the newly taken picture takes a really long time to load?
i suspect its something to do with the usb read speed.
Same here. Sometimes it even needs a reboot until newly taken pics show up in the gallery. I just use the filebrowser to display pics.
I think the gallery never really worked fine i already had issues on my n1...
I've found that when Bluetooth is on, my Gallery lags badly. But it goes back to normal when Bluetooth is switched off.
The gallery app seems to try and discover all of the pictures on the phone...that's maybe what takes so long? The other day it discovered some album art- I don't want album art displayed in the gallery.
I have also noticed it takes a couple minutes to add a recently taken picture into the gallery. Weird.
same here gallery lag ...
any fixes for this yet?

You can exclude any folder on your sdcard from displaying pictures in the Gallery by adding a blank file named .nomedia into the folder. This tells the media scanner to skip that folder when indexing the sdcard. Two caveats to that: first is that it excludes sound files from the music player also, and it excludes all subfolders of the one with the .nomedia file in it.
The lag in having a pic you just took is also annoying. You could probably force a faster review by getting that app from the Market that forces a fresh run of the media scanner. Google must have built some delay into the stock scanner that keep it from constantly running to improve battery life or phone performance. The media scanner sucking up resources was a common complaint on the SGS i9000 forums for a while.
I'll bet you could write a Tasker profile that forced a fresh scan after any new pictures are taken. That might backfire in terms of performance though.

^ Truth.
And I've also experienced Gallery lag. It's really frustrating.
Can anyone tell me how to show only contents in device in stock gallery app permanently?
I changed that in option but it lost after close app
You mean not showing Picasa pictures?
If u meant not to show external card photos,
you shall create an empty file in the /storage/extSdCard (main dir of external sd) with the name:
.nomedia
(dot at the beginning)
If media scanner finds such a file in any dir, it recursively avoids its content.
So it'll avoid whole extSdCard

Yes I mean that, and not showing photos in facebook, dropbox,.. I just want photos in the device (include sdcard)
You just disable sync with Picasa Web album. You will need to stop the gallery app for refresh the gallery.
I have a problem with my gallery, before when I take a photo or video and not show up on my gallery.
I tried to clear cache, and restart my tab. After that I tried to open gallery and now my gallery was blank. But if I take new photo or video, it can be show on my gallery (only new photos or videos). I check with file manager, my old pictures and videos still at my memory internal and SD card. And still not show on my gallery. I tried 3rd party app gallery and result still same.
Anyone has same problem like me? I try to find solution, but still can't found it
I am currently using the Samsung Galaxy S7 running Nougat. The problem is that when I go into my gallery from my camera app photos appear from other folders that are in my sd card. How would I fix this issue. I just want photos that I took with my camera to show up.
You can go to the folder you want to hide in gallery and make a new file named .nomedia
Folder should now be excluded from mediascan and be invisible in gallery.
Hello!
Hope you are well.
I am using a OnePlus 6 device. I was on Oxygen OS's beta channel (OP6_O2_BETA_35). I reverted to Oxygen OS 10.3.5 last night. Since then, I've been experiencing the following problems:
1. The Gallery app is showing no photos. I can see some photos going in the Download folder in my internal storage through the File Explorer app but those aren't showing in the Gallery app. While updating to 10.3.5, I was shown my files will be wiped but I see them in the internal storage. A few of the flies, namely the files in the Download category, appear in the category page but the internal storage shows a lot more files like the music files (which I thought will be lost) and others which aren't shown on the category page. I can play the music files from the internal storage but I can't play them through Play Music app.
2. The Google Photos app won't open anymore. It crashes right after I click on the icon.
3. Can't seem to take any photos with the default camera. I can open it just fine and click to capture but the captured image is a blurred one. Also, the page gets frozen - I can't zoom or swipe on the photo. And, it doesn't show in the Gallery app.
4. Other apps, for example the GCam Mods, crash right after I capture a photo.
5. Can't save screenshot.
6. Connecting the device to a PC through the data cable doesn't show the device. Rather it only shows that there is a CD Drive folder on the PC; clicking on it results in an instruction to insert a disk.
There may be some other issues that I've not encountered yet. I've taken a few screen recording videos but can't find them now. Please help me resolve these issues. I'm looking forward to your suggestions. I appreciate all the help.
