I received a unit from nokia device loan program. I mainly want to try the camera on this phone. When I launch camera from app menu, the camera screen would come out, but the screen is black, no focus view, the on screen buttons are grayed out, push camera button would not do anything.
what is happening?
The phone it locked to ATT, when I put a sim card in it, it say the sim card is used for specific network, input unlock code to use it.
is it because no sim card in it? I have tried reset the phone, but still the same.
If you haven't already, you might want to factory reset it. This will wipe everything off the device, but that should be a big deal if you received it as loaner. Go to settings - about - reset your phone. The device is SIM locked and can only use an AT&T SIM unless you get en unlock code from AT&T. Not a big issue if you're an AT&T customer, but a pain if you are not. As for using the device without a SIM card, I do this regularly when I switch to my HTC One but still use my 1020 for the camera, etc.

Yes. I tried reset. I also tried recovery tool. but still same.
I don't know what could the problem. I will wait for them to send me another one.
is this common issue for nokia phone? or just 1020? I am not windows phone user. I had dell venue pro long time ago. I thought this phone should work out of the box even without sim card.
Should not have any issue with testing without a SIM other then the cellular parts that must be expected not to work. I use my Lumia 1020 without a SIM quite frequently since it takes great pictures. When I switch to my HTC One, I still use my 1020 for the camera. The camera on the HTC One just doesn't compare to the Lumia 1020.

Is what a common problem? As for the issue your having with the camera not responding, no I have never had that and suspect that Nokia messed up when they flashed the phone clean and didn't full check it before sending it out. But that is completely a guess and could happen with any device.

Ok - tearing my hair out here...
I have an AT&T Fuze I was given and am trying to get it going on Telstra NextG here in Australia.
I was fully expecting the device to be SIM locked, and am ok paying to get an unlock code, however I'm not sure exactly how to tell. When I boot the device up, it gives a missing SIM card message:
The SIM card is missing.
You can still make emergency calls if your service provider supports it.

...not a "Your device is locked" message. Can someone tell me what the device should look like? I'm assuming that I should get something other than a missing SIM message?
I'm starting to think that there is a physical problem with the device I have tried two Telstra SIMs, an old Prepaid Vodafone, and four Optus ones...just for good measure. (Except for the Telstra ones they aren't in service, but I assume they should still be recognise)
I've also put HardSPL and TAELROM v4.23544, and the device functions beautifully, except for no network access :-/
I've also tried putting some sticky tape on the top of one of the SIMs to try and give it a better contact, as mentioned in one of the other threads.
Yes, I'm sure I'm putting it in the right way up (SIM works fine in my Touch Pro), and all the contacts appear clean etc.
If someone else has had such an error repaired, can they tell me if it's a major task? Or fairly cheap?
Weird and the previous owner took the AT&T SIM out in front of me, and apparently it has never given any issues before.
Looks like it is sim locked to me.
at&t have an unlock.exe included in their ROM which is used for unlocking via code, you could see if your friend can get unlock code from at&t (can get free code in most circumstances! ) If he can you could flash back to a at&t ROM & unlock.
Other option would be using IMEI unlock service or olipro unlock service.
Thanks for the reply!
Ok, so this is normal? The unlock.exe doesn't fire automatically and you get a SIM missing message until you run it manually? That would be awesome if it is the case.
I could probably get a free unlock, but for the effort of calling the US I'm happy to make a donation to Olipro if that's likely to work. (And he can fix his website - opened a ticket for that)
I'm assuming the IMEI unlock service option wouldn't work unless I flash back to an AT&T ROM to get unlock.exe back, as that will just give me an unlock code which I will have nowhere to type, yeah?
Thanks again.
So, you got an AT&T Fuze (US) and you're trying to get it working on your network Telstra? Now your SIM Card, its not working on the Fuze, but it does work on your old phone? Or on any phones on your network? Any of your family/buddies SIM card work on the Fuze? Im just trying to figure out if its the SIM card or the Card reader on the device that's not working. As far as why you are getting the "SIM card missing screen" I'm not too sure about. I've searched all over the net trying to find out what kind of screen is displayed when the phone is SIM Locked, but no luck!!! Anyhow, many times these devices are locked to their specific carriers for security purposes. I did come across a few threads where people from foreign countries that bought (US) spec phones needed to SIM unlock. So i would say if money is not an issue, try SIM unlocking for a fee. Narrow down the problem. You can try this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=556059&highlight=SIM or http://raphael.sim-unlocker.com/
Two other notes:
I have an AT&T Fuze and in the (US) we have 3g networks. Before I upgraded to the Fuze my old SIM Card was not 3g compatible. It was a 2g SIM, therefore it did not work on the Fuze. (this may not be applicable to you) But note your SIM might not be 3g or the device needs to be unlocked for access to other GSM networks.
Last, my girlfriend is from Hungary and she brought a GSM cell phone, i think it was Tmobile. Anyhow I tried my AT&T Sim Card on it and the phone did recognize it...hahaha I just concluded...If the SIM Card is not recognized, then it must be missing....wow!!!
SIM Unlock, give it a shot....
Yep - AT&T (US) on Telstra (Australia).
Mister B above has given me some hope that the HW is ok, and I just need to get it unlocked... but I was hoping someone could confirm that this is normal before I spend AU$25.
All the threads I read seemed to imply that it would just pop up and ask you for a code when it detects a SIM card from a different network, but that didn't happen to me.
Also, I think I have to wait for Olipro's site to come back on the air (http://raphael.htc-unlocks.com is down for me at the moment). I'm hoping his SW doesn't required me to type an unlock code on the device itself.
Otherwise I will need to reflash the AT&T ROM back to get the unlocker.exe app (unless someone can send it to me? Not even sure where that is stored on the standard ROM to be honest.
Yeah - been through the whole 2G vs 3G SIM card before. Pretty sure my current one is good, as it's not that old and I get 3G on my Touch Pro with it.
As far as i'm aware the at&t devices do not show the unlock code window, you have to run the unlock.exe.
If you are sure the device & your network have compatable radio bands I would put it down to sim lock.
As far as i'm aware IMEI check doesn't need code input, they have support line & when I used them they were cheaper than Olipro.
http://www.imei-check.co.uk/raphael_unlock.php
Thanks (didn't realise IMEI Check was a website!)
Umm...back to nasty AT&T ROM now. Any hints where I might find unlock.exe (or a shortcut to it?)
Meh - IMEI Check website might be cheap, but they tell you AFTER you have generated the source file etc, that all first time users must validate their PayPal sale by...get this...taking photo with their camera phone of some documentation proving their identity, and email it to them...which they will process in 8 hours or so. No thanks...
Hmmm... http://www.unlocking.com/HTC-Fuze-Unlocking.html says:
"How To Enter Your HTC Fuze Unlock Code
Once you have received your HTC Fuze unlocking code, it is very simple to enter it:
- Insert any Sim card into the handset
- Turn the phone on
- You will be prompted to enter and Unlock Code
- Enter the code we provided
- Your phone is unlocked"
Double Meh. That's the bit I'm having issues with...
Ok. Used sim-unlocker.com, and once the software had finished doing it's thing, it popped up a box on the phone asking me to input the code.
Trouble is, SIM still not recognised Guess I'm looking at a fraked phone... (What a waste of time and money that was)
That is a bummer, you saw it working with the at&t sim, yes !
The fuze supports the 850MHz UTMS band so it should work fine on next G.
You could try flashing a generic HTC ROM complete with radio & seeing if you get any luck with that.
Also try some more packing on the sim card just in case it is simply a contact issue.
Total bummer if the fuze has developed a fault.
Thanks for everyone's help. It's in getting a quote for repair. Looks like I stuffed one of the pins when I put the SIM card in for the very first time :/
you gotta go to comm manager and start gsm or phone service then it'll say your phone is locked and ask for an code

The only way is use the simunlocker software ore buy it for $2.70 US dollar on ebay to get the unlock code from the guy name blowfish06 or get the code from AT&T. I unlock over some of them. It will automatic trigger the promt for unlock code if you put any sim that is not from AT&T in the phone.
Just as an update...
SIM slot contacts were stuffed. $150 to fix at the local repair shop in the mall. All working and unlocked now.
A SIM from a different network should pop up a message, but wasn't due to the HW fault. The unlocker software popped up this message when it was run however, so I was able to unlock it while the SIM slot was stuffed.
Thanks for everyones help.

Which is why you shouldn't purchase a non compatible phone, for use in another area?
This is why you shouldn't buy this phone from the scalpers. The chinese version does not support many of the worldwide bands that the "global" version of the phone does. My advice would be to try to sell it to someone who can use it and sign up on the OnePlus forums and wait for an invite for the CM version which supports the bands you need.
Get a new sim, sounds like an old sim that doesn't have the updated CellID info in it.
I had to change my 3 sim when I had my SGS4 as it wouldn't register because it was too old.

I had that happen to me on the interational one and felt quite dumb afterwards...
Make sure the SIM card tray is rotated DOWN so that the contacts on the sim card look to the back of the phone.
It will fit both ways (imho a very strange design choice) but with a tiny little space left when rotated the wrong way.
In other words: turn the phone on it's screen before inserting the sim card facing you.
I have _NO_ clue why the phone thinks it has a SIM card when obviously it cannot access it...

Lumia 1020 (AT&T Unlocked) Cyan+ Internet Sharing Working on T-Mobile (Need Confirm)
ALCON,
I have ready many threads and wasted probably 8 hours trying to get internet sharing working on my branded AT&T phone running latest version of 8.1 (actually I updated to latest 8.1.1 on dev edition / see screen shots attached).
I personally have a unlocked AT&T Lumia 1020 and was not able to use the Internet Sharing feature on T-Mobile. I tried all the methods that worked pre 8.1 Cyan (failed). My foreign SIM was a Pay as You Go UK Orange card I cut with scissors ($10 on Amazon.com)
OK tested this twice. Takes about 5 minutes and you will revert on a full reboot but all in all - better than not having sharing.
Bad news is it will not "stick" after reboot. You will need to do this all over again.
Good news is it is repeatable and at no point do you have to reboot.
1. Install Access Point Software (If you are doing this for the first time AND if you have this "app" - you can SKIP this step)
(I put the link here but it won't let me post it but you can google it and find it easy enough)
2. Replace current T-Mobile SIM with foreign SIM (I have prepaid Orange UK card off Amazon)
3. Go to access point and pick a foreign access point
4. Go to airplane mode
5. Go to date/time settings and take off automatic and set year to 2112 or something big
6. Go to access point (it will ask to uninstall or buy - uninstall)
7. Swap in T-Mobile SIM
8. Setup date/time back to automatic
9. Go to Cellular and turn data connection ON (will ask to go out of airplane mode)
10. Turn on internet sharing (It works!)
I tested it and I have full LTE speeds.
I know this has been a huge pain for Lumia 920 / 925 / 1020 people bringing their AT&T Branded device to other carriers.
If you have this issue and can test/post back - I would appreciate it.
Not perfect but if this works - would be helpful to many like me that don't use this all the time and don't mind a couple minutes of setup after a reboot.
Is this the 875 or 877 model?

This trick did not seem to work for me. Is your foreign sim activated? I am using a UK Orange Prepay that I ordered from Amazon. Also, every time I put in a new sim, the phone reboots. Did your phone do that as well?
Thanks!!!

My SIM is the same one you have. I have heard from one other that their phone reboots on SIM removal. I can't say why mine doesn't.
The one thing I did (in my many experiments) was I installed the Developer's Edition (mine auto updates too). Google it. You just need a MS account. Was easy to setup.
I typically use the Sansbury one (there are many carriers on that card). That said it is game over if your phone reboots every time.
If there is a setting that prevents rebooting on SIM removal - I don't know it (I looked).
One other thing I should document. Last week I was traveling and I went through the procedure above while out of state. I tried to turn on internet sharing and I got a new error that the feature wasn't supported.
I thought my auto update dev edition blocked my solution. I forgot about it for a day (no reboot) and tried it and it worked (just took a couple hours to start working). Now it works every time (till next reboot presumably).
Just some addition documentation for anyone reading this.

I wonder if my sim is really the same as yours. The reason I say that is that it never reboots immediately when I insert the sim, but after about 5 seconds implying that it is being forced to reboot by the SIM.
This is the SIM I purchased: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BCNKZS6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
One other question - is the foreign sim activated? If so, how did you activate it. I've tried multiple times, but have no luck.
Thanks, Greg!

You are right Greg.
Here is the SIM I ordered (won't let me post the link but search Amazon for "Vodafone UK Pay as You Go SIM card"). $5.49 with free Prime shipping.)
I didn't activate it but it is pre-paid so I believe it comes pre-activated. I did nothing but trim it to size and insert it.
That is new info on the 5 second lag time. The other person said it happened immediately when they popped open the tray.
Might be worth $5.49 on my SIM to find out if it works?
Report back if you have any luck.
Thanks for all your input on this matteni, across multiple forums.
If you are referring to me or others on windows central about the reboot, we were not clear before. It reboots not when you pop the tray, but after you insert a new SIM card.
It reboots on any new SIM card insert, even if I take out my current SIM first.
A more detailed description may be: pop out tray, take out SIM, put tray back in, it does not reboot. Pop tray out, put SIM in (current or different), push tray in, it will wait a bit (like a few seconds), then reboot.

Tried with the same Vodafone SIM and made sure that it was activate. 3-5 Seconds after I put in the sim, the phone says goodbye. Oh well. Now if I can find a way to keep it from rebooting, I'd have it made!
So I was able to make my 1020 not reboot -- I restored it to the default ATT ROM (WP 8.0) using Nokia Care Suite, and when I updated to Cyan it would not reboot on SIM insert anymore. Maybe that will work for you too? I ended up updating all the way to the latest Dev preview too.

Hello guys,
Im coming at you for a question which I can't have any answer.
I bought a Note10 Plus in October to somebody on the web, the phone was brand new (on its original sealing and packaging) and working perfectly. I was first on Three network, the phone worked, then I switch on GoMo, working perfectly too. On the 10th of November I traveled to Japan with a local sim card (Docomo) and same, all working. But yesterday, I came back to Ireland where I live, and still as of today, the phone show me 'SIM 2 not allowed'.
The phone is unlocked, I've checked with the Samsung support and they confirmed it (but didn't bring me helpful troubleshooting steps). I've contacted my carrier too who said that there is no issue on my account, and they will send me a new sim card too.
I'm not expecting it to work though, as the SIM card is working on the iPhone X of my gf, and her sim card is not working on my phone too. So it's only on my Note 10+.
I've tried to remove the sim and reinsert it, restart it, reset network settings, check the date and time, nothing to do, all go to the same error.
After making research, I tried to check some IMEI Blacklist check websites, but I don't trust them as I don't know where these infos comes from, but one catch my attention because it told me that the phone was blacklisted : https://www.imeipro.info/
All the others says that the phone is clean. Again, that's why I don't really trust it, and my carrier didn't mention any block. I'm still curious why my phone appear as blacklisted so I send them an email to try to know more.
I receive signal too, but can't send/receive calls or text, and I don't have access to data neither.
So now I have my phone with no any SIM working, and I don;t know what to try to get my phone working again.
I think I've explained all I did today, I don't know what to do more, I don't have any idea of what's going on with the phone, that's why I need your light to see if you can help me to find a way.
Thank you guys, I hope to hear from you soon!
From the sounds of it, it sounds like it's been blacklisted, that's my guess. Do you get any message when you insert the sim? I had a similar thing happen to me, turned out the guy I bought the phone off on Ebay didn't pay he's bill and phone wouldn't text or make calls anymore. O2 was the company that barred the phone, and they couldn't help me even though I had proof I'd purchased the phone from the guy, only he could sort it out as it was he's account. Anyway thankfully PayPal came to my rescue, they just needed proof it was blacklisted, carphonewarehouse did a check and printed out the results for me thankfully as I knew the guy that worked there. I got a refund and promised myself I'd never buy a phone off Ebay from a personal seller, if its a business account then maybe. Awful experience though. I hope you get this sorted.
I'm guessing you've never rooted the phone or flashed it as that can sometimes delete the efs folder which causes the phone to have no imei.
Thanks for your answer !
No usually I root all my phones but this time I wanted to keep it as normal, because tthe phone looks like there's nothing more to improve to me (except a little bbit the camera when the light is low..)
I didn't knew that it could cause such things ! I should have done that
Honestly that was the first time I bought the phone to somebody, and more of that, the phone was sealed on the original plastic with the label ''eu sim card only''. So I was trusting it, even if I know, that doesn't mean it's safe behind that.
Since I've posted the message, I contacted few carriers, like mine GoMo, and they dont know anything about the blacklisting (I was surprised) then I contacted Three, they told me that the device does not belomg to the; so they can't check.
I tried Eir, and they refused to give me infos for data protections, which I think is stupid because the phone is not a personal information who could reveal an identity but anyway. I didn't though about Carephonewarehouse, I will visit them because it seems like this is the best idea.
The weird thing to me is still that it didnt worked suddenly... I was in the flight and this is when I came back that it didn't worked. Well, maybe that was a bad hazard.
Something I've discovered yesterday more of that is when I have this issue, turning off the 4G and only allowing 3G/2G will allow me to use the data. Still no phone or text, but the phone is detecting the H+ signal and I'm free to go on the web.
Yes for your question, the issue happened instantly when I insert the card on the SIM1 with the error SIM not allowed, the SIM 2 slot works perfectly, that's what I'm using for the moment but I can't use any SD card at the same time, so it bother me. :/
Thanks for sharing your experience, then I know a little bit fore of what to do. I wanted to go to the police but I don't want to spend 2 hours there. Maybe I'll think of it as a last resort...

I just came from Japan as well I had the same problem but with my Sony Xperia 1.
I bought it from the states and I took vacation to Japan and used their sim card.
When I came back here in Florida I switched back to my at&t sim card I couldn't make calls or texts only data works for some reason I tried everything I used sim card on other phones (sim card is fine)
I tried everything, nothing worked !
I factory reset the phone and it worked, fixed the problem (it's strange because I used Galaxy s8 also with that sim card and it's working fine)
My Sony Xperia 1 had similar problem to yours
I don't know if this will help you to be honest but I had kinda same problem.
Hope you solved you issue.

Thank you, but unfortunately the phone has been bought from someone as I said, and the suggestion there doesn't help :/

Thank you for that, I've tried this yesterday after a backup, I used the sim card with the phone completly as new (well, I've restored it from the settings, so I don't know if it was the good way) and it didn't worked.
I think I will try carephone warehouse as jadaress1 requested, it might give me lot of infos there. Im also starting thinking that the phone is carrier blocked, but I can't see any reason why the phone was new and already unlocked so I don't see any reasons...
I'll let you know
Hi all, currently having an issue with my phone which I am unable to resolve. I'm beginning to think I may have completely broken my phone.
Yesterday I decided to install a Lycamobile eSIM on my phone. In doing so, it has broken SIM manager and also caused my device to stop recognising my physical SIM (which is with EE).
I've attached a photo of the issue. Here's what happens.
When I enter SIM Manager, the loading animation continues for quite a while. As you can see, the eSIM has no phone number assigned to it, and my physical SIM, which is inserted in SIM slot 1, is not recognised.
Whenever the loading animation decides to stop, er, loading, I access the eSIM. When I click to remove the eSIM nothing happens.
If I scroll down and go into More SIM settings and click to Remove all eSIMs, nothing happens.
I was on the phone to EE today for about an hour and a half. In that time, they tried to get me to install an eSIM but it didn't work. Every time I try to install it, the screen simply vanishes, taking me back to SIM manager.
After exhausting my options with EE, they referred me to Samsung. Samsung told me to contact Lycamobile, who in turn have decided to send me a new QR code in order to install a new eSIM...which also did not work.
I have reset network settings. I have cleared the cache partition. I have factory reset the phone twice. I read that apparently you should get the option to remove an eSIM when you factory reset, but I'm not sure if that applies to Samsung phones and that option has never been available to me. I did contemplate flashing the firmware (it has been many a year since I did that), but it appears that this wouldn't resolve the issue.
I'm stumped. The phone is in warranty, so I suppose I could send it back to Samsung, but unsure if and how they would be able to sort it.
Any advice would be hugely appreciated.
Try this: put a sim card in the 2nd slot and then try removing the eSIM.

Unfortunately the physical SIM is still not recognised in slot two, and I am still unable to remove the eSIM. As I said, whenever I access the eSIM and press Remove it doesn't work.
Have the same problem. Trying to fix it for a second day now.
What I tried so far:
Factory reset
Clear cache
Tried to remove it - nothing
Reset network settings
Reinserting sims in different variations
Checked physical sim in different phone - which works
Tried to reflash it with Odin, esim still there
Has anyone got some different ideas of what to do?
Thanks

If a factory reset doesn't fix a problem, then it means a bug in the software. This is unacceptable bug. You should try getting a replacement under warranty.
I'm assuming phone is unlocked. Any particular reason you are using EE firmware? I would try, via Odin, unbranded firmware
Samsung punted me back to EE and sent me a repair centre. They managed to fix it. According to the repair notes they replaced some hardware:
"Replaced a part that holds internal parts in place."
"Replaced an internal flex component."
"Replaced the main board (?!) inside your device."
They also flashed some firmware, which they say on the repair note was "the latest version" but I got a security update download notification as soon as the phone was setup.
This was done at a same day repair centre and I got the phone back after a couple of hours, which was unexpected.

To answer this question: EE are my network provider, and thus is a contract phone. The phone is unlocked though, EE did confirm that to me. I would have flashed firmware as a last resort but was keen to explore every other solution first. In the end, EE did manage to fix it by replacing some internal components (detailed in the post above).

Great! All well then
Sorry to bring up an older topic but is there any other suggestions to get this solved. I've got the exact same issue caused by a Lycamobile SIM. I've sent my phone back to Samsung but they won't repair under warranty because of minor cosmetic damage and I don't want to pay for an expensive repair for something that seems like it's a software issue.
