RMA replacement showing NO SERVICE. Help! - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I received my RMA replacement last night. I swapped the SIM card over to the new phone and it still shows 'No Service' and 'Emergency Calls Only'. I put the SIM back in the old phone and it works. I also just chatted with AT&T and they said I might need a new SIM card.
Do you guys know of another work around or will I definitely need a new SIM card?

Try inserting a friends simcard to see if that one works, if it does your card needs to be replaced.

Unfortunately the only other person near me has an iphone 5 and his sim card is alot smaller than mine. I guess ill have to wait till i get to an AT&T store.

The Phone Fried my SIM Card

So it finally got here. I spent four hours loading apps and setting configuration. I turned it off to clear it out and when it rebooted it said "no SIM card, emergency calls only." It was the card out of my G2 so I thought there was something wrong with the G2X. When I put the card back in the G2 I got the same thing - "no SIM card." I've been through a lot of SIM cards over the years and never had one crap out so I'm assuming the phone did something to it. I'm on the phone with T-Mobile now trying to get the new SIM card that came in the G2X box provisioned.
It also spontaneously reset my Bluetooth settings back to stock wiping out all the paired devices and the name I gave it.
There's other strangeness to report but I'm too tired. Tomorrow.
I would like to know how that'd be possible. .. frying a sim card?!? I mean could it short it out? LOL everyone is posting a lot of problems. Only thing I'm pissed about is this bleeding on black/dark screens.
Other than that this thing smokes any phone I've had!

Bluetooth issue happened to me once so far.
It happens. More than likely, it is just coincidence.
I have had a SIM last 7 years, and I've had one last only a couple months.
It's nothing to do with the phone, just get a new SIM and move on.

Sim suddendly isn't reconized from the phone

Hi !
My Htc one S sometimes show the advice that indicate that there is no SIM inserted, even if the sim is there and even if the phone is already power on, it shows the message after some times it's on. Any suggest?
Have you tried a different SIM card? Could be something wrong with the card. Also make sure all the contacts on the SIM and phone are clean.
If it still doesn't work then looks like you'll have to go back to HTC.
My SIM didnt work in my S when I got it.
After some googling it seemed quite common on the X.
The general answer was "get a new SIM". I got a new SIM and it solved my problem at least.
If a new SIM doesnt work, it might be a hardware issue with your device and you should probably return it.
actually I just have one micro SIM and I cannot try a switch. Also in order to try I would need to take the other sim for long time because this happen with a low frequency..
Get it exchanged from your carrier. Shouldnt cost much, if anything at all (Telia here in sweden didnt charge anything at least).

[Q] Possible hardware fault

Hi all.
Received a supposedly new Galaxy S6 today and the seal was broken.
All seemed OK with phone so accepted it.
Put in a 3 sim card as phone is unlocked. Problem is it just says "Not connected to network" when trying to make a call. Though it has received 2 text messages and I managed to send one after the phone tried to send it for 30 minutes. Phone also isn't showing any data connection. It's been tried with the sim out my old phone and also with a new sim from 3 store today. Sim had been in phone for approx 8 hrs before I run out of ideas.
So the phone definitely works. Just can't seem to figure out why its not working properly . I'm thinking it likely hardware fault though would like anyones opinions or suggestions.
Cheers for reading the post
Mark
The new SIM card probably is not yet activated. Bring your S6 back to your telecom provider so they can test there with a working SIM. If it does not work then it maybe a hardware problem. Have them replaced your S6 if it is.
Sim was activated. 3 store tried it in another phone and it worked ok.
To make matters worse. I put nano sim converter inside Galaxy S3 to test my old phone. Couldn't get it out and bent pins inside phone DOH!
After leaving the store and arriving home my phone was showing full signal and the '3' symbol. Unfortunately would still not send a text or make a call.
My conclusion is that the phone isn't quite reading the Sim properly.
My decision now is to either wait till the seller replies(Who I don't trust) to numerous messages I have left or just send it off to Samsung for repair.
Cheers for replying

Send to Samsung for repair.
I've sent the phone back to seller.
I'm beginning to doubt myself though after this nightmare. This is going to be a long story....
When the S6 arrived I had to cut my micro sim down out of my S3 to nano size. I'm quite a perfectionist when it comes to stuff like this and did a good job. Though as the S6 didn't hold a signal I went into 3 store for brand new nano sim. Put it into the S6 instore and it was the same. Though they said wait up to four hours for it to register properly. Went home and after 6 hours still no luck. So I decided to try it in my S3.
This is when the nightmare began.
As I needed it micro size I cut out a template to put nano sim in. When trying to insert it in I wasn't happy. So I tried to take it out and the tip caught hold of the sim reader pins and came away. So I had a bit of plastic stuck in sim reader. Boy could I not get it out. So had no option but to buy a new sim/Mem card reader. Local shop wanted a tenner for one. Had no option so bought it along with a proper nano to micro sim housing and went along home.. Fitted it and then went along to the 3 store armed with both S3 and S6 to make sure I could either get the S6 working and if not get the sim put in the S3.
This is where my next dumb moments was. So I didn't lose the nano to Micro template I partially slotted it into the S3 sim reader.
Got to 3 store, explained S6 wasn't working with new nano sim and asked if they could check the sim was ok. They tried it in a HTC and it worked fine.
So this to me proved the S6 was faulty.
So I asked if they would put it into my S3 to show it worked ok in that.
So they went to put the Sim in my S3 and couldn't get the template out as i'm not sure if they pushed the sim converter all the way in!! As no sim was in the template the pins had hooked onto it. So ended up damaging the sim reader again. Jesus!!
So no working phone again. Just an apparent working nano sim.
Got home ordered ANOTHER sim/mem reader.
To get me connected I ended up taping the nano sim in place on the S3 and part of an old credit card on top so the rear cover put pressure on the sim as well. This was after cutting away the top part of the original sim reader to get the plastic out and to expose the pins. LO and behold it worked!!! Full signal just like I normally get and H+ data
So I've had a phone for last 24hrs working and got home tonight to find the new sim/card reader had arrived. Thought wow that was quick delivery. Took sim out and thought i'd give S6 one last try as I install the new sim reader. . Still no luck getting stable signal so boxed up S6 to return. Put sim into S3 with proper template AND you'll never guess what........ITS DOING EXCACTLY THE SAME THE S6 WAS!!!!
S3 now keeps dropping signal and going into emergency only calls. I'm thinking why didn't I just not touch it.
So is it possible that the 3 network throws a Dummy every time you swap sim into different phones??? Its just strange the S3 is doing excactly what the S6 was. Or could the S6 be upsetting the sim?
God i'm really baffled as there always seems to be more than one factor into the equation of whats wrong.
Now I'm just waiting to get hold of another sim to try or just hope after leaving my S3 on overnight it might settle down.
God phones....I hate em LOL
Just to clear up the Sim issue with the S3. Even though it was connected on the '3' network and not receiving calls. I happened to check the manual network provider list again and it was showing the '3' network twice in the list. Clicked on the one it wasn't auto selecting and S3 is working fine again. Tried the Sim in the S6 again hoping that may have been the problem also. Again the S6 manual network provider was showing the '3' network twice in the list....But unfortunately still didn't connect to network properly.
So S6 definitely going back Monday.
Anyone know if having your network provider listed twice in the network settings is normal? Or is it possible that '3' have not programmed the sim properly?
Cheers

What do I do about sudden battery and SIM card issues?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (SCH-I535) that I was trying to resurrect as a WiFi hotspot and found that I have a couple of issues here that I never had before.
First off, I've tried putting in different SIM cards trying to activate it and the crazy phone will not read any of the SIM cards that I put in it. Before anyone asks, I did make sure that the card was installed properly. It doesn't matter if I put in a Verizon or Straight Talk SIM card. Neither one works. I always get the pop up box telling me that I need to insert a SIM card even though I have already put one in.
Second issue that I have been having recently is that anytime I take out the battery in the S3 (either to replace SIM card because it's easier to replace SIM card with the battery out of it) or to put in another battery, I lose the current date and time in the phone. Always goes back to noon on January 1st. This one is just pure irritating to me.
These issues just came up in the past few weeks and I'm tempted to just chuck the phone if I'm not able to get these issues rectified. Any help I can get on this would be greatly appreciated.
Cindy
Sounds like you need to have the phone activated. Not sure about the SIM issue, but all phones get the time from the cellular network when they're powered up.

I've tried that but I still get the SIM Card message coming up even though I have inserted it. I thought that the phones get the time from somewhere and this week is the first time that I've had the issue with the phone losing the date and time once I change out the battery.

For your sim issue this setting maybe help you
Goto Setting>More settings(in wireless and network tab) >Mobile Networks>Network mode

Sim card and network problems

Have a note 20 ultra 5g that keeps telling me no sim card, no cellular network available. Have replaced sim card readers 2x in both motherboards, still the same. Have also tried another motherboard known good and get the same thing. But whats weird is on the motherboard that was Verizon unlocked it will tell me the phone number on the sim card. The known good motherboard that is unlocked factory. It will say the same thing. The verizon one will say sim card provider changed restart to new carrier and will reboot to T-mobile. I have replaced almost everything on the middle case as in connectors and such. Both motherboards will tell me phone number on sim card and have also tried a few different sim cards. All the same problem. Someone told me that the middle frame is the problem, but I don't believe that. Have also the verizon motherboard installed and sent this phone to Samsung and all they said was new motherboard needed, At a cost of almost $700.00. Still sim card problem and I have run out of ideas.
