Don't worry Windows 8.1 will handle 'em all...Just Download the adb drivers if you get a problem... Everything will work fine and make sure you select the 'Keep all files and programs/setting' ...

I just bought a new laptop with windows 7 installed. But when i tried running cellular emulator it showed up some error "7 pairs of...something something not found" i googled and found that drivers are not compatible.
Just wondring if any one figured a way out at XDA. cant install windows virtual machine bcz i have a w7 home premium.
I'm having the same problem ....
Cellular Emulator doesn't work on 64bit, because of the virtual serial port driver it uses
Now I installed my VS2008 under vmWare, and the Cellular Emulator works

You can download Windows 8 DP from M$:
32bit:

64bit:

No problems here, with Windows 8.
i've been using windows 8 as main operating system for my laptop for some time now... right from build 7989 back in july and then dev preview from early september on..
i have had a bad time running windows phone sdk and several tools for wp7 on windows 8... so just for my phone, i run a 32 bit windows 7 on a virtual machine inside windows 8

Are you using 32 or 64 bit?
Which program?
So, A few months ago I downloaded and installed the developers preview of windows 8. I liked it a lot and backed up my windows 7 hd, wiped and fully installed windows 8.
Well, I bought the HTC One S yesterday. Amazing phone.
My problem, I can't root my phone because while installing the htc drivers it comes up with "~ doesn't recognize this OS" or something like that. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks,
Tom
Maybe you should revert back to windows 7 then if the drivers wont install, Its pretty much impossible to anything without drivers

I figured that was the easiest solution HOWEVER I really dont want to spend 3 hours of work (Backup windows 8, delete, repart, load and install windows 7, root phone, delete, repart, load and install windows 8) for something that takes less than half an hour to do.
If anyone has any nice work arounds i'd really, really appreciate it!
What about installing some kind of virtual machine and Win7 or even XP on it?
can't you find any kind of driver that will install on WIN8?

I would try installing the Windows XP mode (virtual machine) if Windows 8 lets you, as mentioned above.. or perhaps download TinyXP and install as dual boot. maybe even a live install to a bootable usb drive.. although I've never been able to get that method to work well.
Or! I'll sell you my HP TC1100 already set up for HTC & Samsung phone modding!
I have been using a windows 7 pc for a while to flash fast boot's. But, recently, I bought a windows 8 pc, and now (no matter what I try) I can't get adb to work. Did any of you guys manage to get it to work? I am screwed?
You can always try using a live CD or run a distro off a flash drive for dedicated developing. Puppy linux works beautifully. Buy a cheapo 4gb drive from a retail chain!
Make sure you're using the correct driver version, win 8 has a finicky install process where it draws the files from the internet even if it's not really correct.
Try manual installation.

I would like to say that I am not a developer or anything. I am having problems using adb commands on my computer (windows 8). It is a problem with drivers and such that the computer doesn't recognize the phone when in recovery. The same setup works on my windows vista desktop. I know many people have problems with drivers working on windows 8 and i was just wondering what version of windows is the easiest to work with?
