[Q] LG Lucid 2 VS870 wifi saved but not connecting - General Questions and Answers

I recently got an LG Lucid 2 (VS870) which is running android 4.1.2 software VS7011A. I have also tried it on VS87010B. When i go into the wifi settings, I can see and add networks, which then say "saved, secured." it does not try to obtain an ip address or anything, it just says it is saved. It worked fine for about a day, but then stopped connecting.
I have rooted it with framaroot 1.9.1 (apk attached), which installed with no problem. I have used CWM touch recover, which does not need flashing, by playfulgod (apk attached)
It has this problem for all wifi networks i have tried, and resetting the router did not help. Other than initially rooting it, i have not changed anything along those lines. I have looked all over the internet with no successful solution, and any help would be appreciated.

Any luck getting this straightened out? I am having the same problem after the same scenario. Thanks!

I never got this phone to work. I still have it and mess with it sometimes, but no matter what firmware or rom I put on it, I have no luck.

i did this exact same thing
seems the defualt mac address is overwritten when the kernal is flashed with the unlocked one, once done, nothing fixes it, ive tried, it seems the unlocked kernal messes with the phone somehow for some people. but i found a work around, you have to install an app called macChanger and spoof a random mac address you must do this once in awhile or at every reboot, ive found no way to set the mac address so it seems we are ****ed, best bet it to just keep it as a nice mp3 player or a movie phone

Seems to work

I revisited this issue, and I found what appears to be a solution. I tried your suggestion, and seeing it worked, decided to mess around and see what i could figure out. I edited the mac address on the last line of /data/misc/wifi/config
and after a couple reboots, the address i entered seems to stay as the device's mac address and wifi continues to work.
I attached my edited version of the file

works Mac address issue fixed, needed to reboot at least three times

[Q] Wifi Error (but not your usual error)

ok, so weird issue for me.. and idk if anyone else is experiencing it cause it doesn't seem like it.. I'm getting wifi error (and before anyone says anything about my router, it's already configured). It just won't turn on no matter what. I hit it, it says a grayed out "Turning On..." and then error again. No attempt or anything. I go into wifi settings and everything under Wi-Fi is grayed out, that's the network notification at&t wifi hot spot setting and wifi networks. I've been trying hard and absolutely no resolution. A google search only affords me more "fixes" for my router and that's not the issue. If i can get a referral somewhere else that doesn't talk about the router being the issue then i'd greatly appreciate it.

I've never heard of that error before so I don't know. Are you rooted? What version of Android are you running? What I'd do is backup all your apps, text messgs, contacts, etc., and do a factory reset and see if that fixes it. Worst case scenario you could flash a fresh new version of 2.3.5 via RSD Lite and you'd almost surely have the problem fixed, unless it's a hardware issue.
I actually started off on 2.3.5 with the issue, and then i started having problems with my ability to actually get past FB, so i had to do a the rsd fix where i force stock on there again. From that point since it still wasn't working I went and pushed ota which took forever and got onto blaze hoping/praying that it would finally work after that. ultimately nothing worked so I'm here now at the mercy of the forum hoping some guru might have something that I could try.

Wow brother, if you flashed the 2.3.5 fxz to it and still had the problem, i'm thinking there's a hardware issue.
yea, i figured. so i've already contacted motorola and since i'm still under warranty i can return it and they'll send me another one. them's the break, but i got 2 weeks before i even have to decide on that so its not something i'm rushing towards lol
Try going to adb shell
su
ifconfig tiwlan0 down
(toggle airplane on then off)
ifconfig tiwlan0 up
(toggle airplane on then off)
Maybe that will bring your adapter back up. Hope that helps.
hope this doesn't mean anything bad, but it says error no such device
i did adb shell in cmd prompt, it started up went [email protected] then i did su and it changed to [email protected] and i did what you said.. and it gave me that error
Had the same error problem a few ago using blaze v3 rom. After reboot, it was solved and I could connect to my wifi again.
Have no idea what caused the problem, as I didn't do anything out of the ordinary with the device since the update from blaze 2.5.

only once did i have problem with wifi on this phone and i never fixed it on 2.3 ...
after a lot of trial and error though, i got it fixed with upgrading to ics.
other than that, does your bluetooth do the same? because symptoms like these usually mean water damage. you might want to check the indicators, (if the a2 has any) --- if you broke your wifi by updating rom, this probably isnt the case.
I noticed that the description for the wlan interface is different in the build.prop between GB and ICS. So you might check your /system/build.prop.
Look for this towards the top of your build.prop
Code:
# wlan interface
wifi.interface = tiwlan0
softap.interface = tiap0
In GB wifi.interface = tiwlan0
In ICS wifi.interace = wlan0
So make sure the value is correct, if the value is wrong it will show your wifi "greyed out" in the settings. Anyway, it's something to try, and I hope that helps. If you change the value, make sure you reboot then check to see if it is fixed.
Since I don't know if anyone is still looking into this at all because I haven't seen many updates to this thread, I'm wondering if anyone has checked the kernal information. I was able to do some searching (btw I haven't sent in my atrix 2 in yet because of work) and I found that there was some issues in regards to the Kernal. I don't know if thats true or not but I would like to see someone test it out or try it out or what have you and see if they can shed some light on the situation because the situation is rather bleek, and i'd rather not have to send in a perfectly good phone that was working just fine before the flash, and still wouldn't work after reflashing the AT&T rom.

[Q] Wifi stuck on "Saved" with Revolver ROM

I flashed from ICS Beta 1.3.1 (which was sporadic at best, use to get stuck at "Obtaining IP address") to ICS RC1 and now my TF won't even try to connect. It just says "Saved", and that it. I've tried reflashing + 3x full wipe + cache wipe and nothing is helping. Does anyone know how I can fix this problem?
Did you coldboot your tablet yet?
Try restarting your router.
If that doesn't fix it, try flashing a custom kernel.

My router has been restarted a few times and every device I have connect just fine. I have not cold-booted (that's actually something I've never done) and will look into custom kernels. Thanks!
I've coldbooted, flashed a custom kernal and reflashed Revolver 4.0 RC1 and my WiFi still doesn't work. Any other suggestions?

Yikes, at this point you should try messaging Gnufabio to try and work something out, it's probably rom based. I've never tried Revolver though.

May i ask if you have a "%" or similar char in your password?
I found that since last friday ( i flashed from Megatron to Frozn) i cannot use % as a char in WIFi passwords. Also i cannot use % in any password on the internet.
F.ex amazon account has a % in it. I always get wrong password, though it works from my laptop....
Anybody has a similar issue?
BTW, my wifi password still contains an "!" which is still working...

I solved it for me: changed to asus keybord and i can put passwords with % characters in.
Seems like there is an issue with the android keyboard? Or is it just me?

My key phrase is all letters and numbers. I'm going to continue to try different kernels, but if nothing changes, I'll just have to try a different rom.
I've now tried several different kernels, super wiped and flashed the Revolution HD rom and my wifi is still stuck on "Saved". I'm out of ideas.

Here's a novel idea, buy a new router. I chucked my 2 year old Belkin because my wife started complaining about her iPhone not being able to connect. Got a brand new somewhat expensive Cisco Linksys router and voila, everything connects like a dream.
Thanks to all who tried to help.

[Q] Wifi Issue

I own a HTC One S with stock vodafone (gb) rom, rooted, ICS 4.0.3, Touch 4.0. As I see a lot of people have similar issues as mine, however, I wasn't able to find a working solution. So the problem is that the phone stopped being able to connect to wifi networks - no matter if secured or free. I tried to change the settings from dhcp to static, stll nothing. It goes through connecting>obtaining ip address>authenticating>saved,secure... in whatever order, and the cycle repeats over and over... Sometimes bars appear, blink and disappear again. I had no wifi problems until last night, when I went to a place with free wifi, and for the first time I could not connect to it. After that the issue continued at home. Restarting the router/phone don't work. Has anybody found a working solution?

Not a good solution but you could try a factory reset if nothing else works.
-Sent from my TMOUS HTC One S.-

I rebooted the phone a few times (waiting 6 mins when off) without fastboot on and on the third time it started working. I hope this doesn't happen again... As I searched through the forums I saw a lot of people having similar issues mainly with dhcp.. hope there's a fix for that...
Problem appeared again... This time reboot isn't solving anything. When I put it on static IP it connects to the network and disconnects over and over again. This s*** is driving me crazy...
are you running a custom kernel?
No. It's stock. Recovery is CWM, phone is rooted via this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1577831
it could be the boot.img causing your issue. i rooted via this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427 and have never had a problem with wifi unless i had flashed a custom kernel
Well.. I don't know, because I haven't flashed a custom ROM.. Just rooted the stock one... Btw it started working again after like 10 reboots with no fastboot on, but experience tells me that it'll go crazy again...
you could also try flashing a custom rom, it might fix the issue

[Q] Hotspot on phone won't connect to android tablet

I'm not sure where to put this so I'm going to post it here but if it's in the wrong spot please feel free to move it, Mod.
Ok, I have a Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE (downgraded to 3G, no 4G in my area) running Android 4.1.2 that I use my Hotspot internet off of. I have connected it to just about everything, computers, tablets, and other phone and it has always worked perfectly until now. I got a Visual Land Prestige Pro 7D tablet running Android 4.1.1 for Christmas and for some reason my phone's hotspot won't connect to it. It says it is connected but when I go to use the browser or any app that uses the internet it never loads or doesn't work. Sometimes the signal even drops out and reconnects but never actually works. I did some research and it sounds like it might be an IP address conflict but I am not sure how to fix it. Some sites suggest downloading another tether/hotspot app so I tried a few. Some revert back to the original hotspot setting on my phone, which of course did me no good, and some just plain did not work, they did exactly like my original hotspot, connect but won't work. I have pretty much figured out that it has something to do with my phone's hotspot since my tablet works perfectly fine on other people hotspot or wifi internet. Can someone please help me figure out what is going on?! Thanks in advance!
Are you on the stock ROM? Seems to be from your post.
You've tried using the built-in tethering feature, as well as some 3rd party software. Most of the 3rd party programs will create an 'ad-hoc' network which typically only other computers can connect to. There's some threads around here that discuss how to remedy this on stock. Search around.

Yes I'm still on the stock ROM the phone came with. I have tried the built-in and 3rd party apps and neither is working. I'm really not sure to look for. I have tried a few different things including changing the IP address in my phone hotspot settings and nothing works.

A phone w/o root is less than half phone.
BTW you can try foxfy or pdanet, the latter works surely, but at the price of a client installation on the PC side, and is USB/BT only.
I haven't tested the former

I have rooted my phones before but I like this phone the way it is for right now and I just don't want to go through that long process of rooting it.
I have tried Foxfi, it connects but like the others, the browser and app never load, but I can connect to any other wifi or hotspot and they load fine. From what I have heard Foxfi and PDAnet are the same, they even have a combined app. I have done some more research and it looks like maybe my phone or tablet, which ever one, is running adhoc (?) and either one or the other can't use that. Does that sound about right?
PDAnet and foxfi, are two apps sold by the same company, but are all but the same thing.
PDAnet is a 10+ years old program, is older than android, and is an absolutely proven SW, working on multiple platforms either on server and client side.
FoXfi is a relatively new program that manages to work on a great number of devices, but that is not guaranteed to work on any device.
If foxfi doesn't work on PQ, I'm afraid there is nothing you can do w/o rooting the phone.

Install TWRP, it will automatically offer to root the device after booting to recovery and then in recovery restarting to system.
Otherwise follow this guide to install CWM / SuperSU.

Sorry for the late reply. (time zone is our enemy
BTW given arrrghhh already replied, I can only add to avoid confusion to follow the linked thread about CWM, but replacing the CWM part with TWRP.
The latter is more newbie friendly and, will root automatically the phone, and will also block the function that restore the original recovery on the first boot.

Basically you need to install the drivers and get ADB working, before doing anything else
Once you have done that step you can unlock your phone, using the instructions provided on the CWM thread, and in the related motorola website iself.
Then is flashing the TWRP is pretty easy, you just need to start your phone in fastboot mode, connect your phone the the pc, then issue the command
fastboot flash recovery twrp-something.img
(replace the last part with the real name of the file downloaded from the TWRP thread.
then reboot in recovery once (is mandatory to not reboot in system the first time) and when you will exit the recovery environment, it will ask if you want to root your phone.
That's all
This is a quick walk-trough, I hope you can understand that I can't detail every single step more, if and when you have doubts, just google a bit and ask for the definite problem you may have, here.

[Q] Moto G and Moto G 4G LTE - WiFi problems, bad signal and no internet

Hey guys. I'm "new" here on xda. I've been using this website from the shadows for years, but today I just can't solve this problem by myself.
The thing is, I owned a Moto G 2013 (16Gb) 2 years ago. Stock 4.4.4 KK, no problem at all. And I decided to OTA update it to LP 5.1.1, and after that, apply the NX ROM. Everything works just fine, not a single problem.... until my brother got a Moto G 4G LTE (1st gen) this Christmas.
He was 4.4.4 stock. The phone was from GB (not our country), Tesco version and it said it had no update to Lollipop, so I updated it with TWRP with original OTA firmware. Everything, again, okey (strangely, there is no 5.1.1 update available, anyone correct me if I'm wrong).
THE PROBLEM starts when we both use our phones at home, over the same WiFi network. If I have WiFi ON, and he doesn't, my phone internet is working. But if we both have the WiFi ON, randomly, one of the two will have working internet and the other will not.
I thought it's our ROMs the problem. I reverted to stock, recoveries, firmwares, radios, EVERYTHING. I got crazy finding a solution (I searched for solutions on Google in 3 languages). And right now, I just have the two phones, one next to the other, doing a web searching comparison, and as said:
- imagine my Moto G is "A" and his Moto G is "B"
- "A" and "B" with WiFi on
- Searching for Youtube with Google Chrome app
- "A" works, "B doesn't"
- I turn off "A" WiFi, and instantly, "B" internet is working again
This drives me crazy, because we live in the same house, single router. We have a 50Mb real WiFi connection, set at Auto channel, channel width and 11bgn mixed mode. I tried using fixed channel, 20Mhz width channel, only 11n... nothing works.
We have other devices, a Samsung, a Sony and 4 PCs, and everybody has good internet, except our Moto G's when used at the same time. We have no neighbourgs (the only network in 50 meters is ours) so no channel fload from other WiFi signals.
I'm sorry for the wall text, but it just pisses me off that I have tried it everything, for almost a week, and no solution.
Thanks in advance!

Sorry for the delay answer. I think I need to configure the xda notifications thing...
And mate, you are bloody right. The problem was so visible and simple, that I couldn't even think about it. Indeed, both phones have the same MAC adress. How is that even possible? Both phones are from different countries, and I never messed up with the WiFi settings... Strange.
Now that I know where resides the problem... how do I change the MAC adress? I know it has something to do with the "persist" folder, but don't know how to properly change it. I use ES File Manager PRO, and root explorer is set to r/w so it's all ready.
Thanks for the fast reply mate, I already have half the problem solved :fingers-crossed:
Cheers!

Did you ever mess with the "persist" partition?

Only in my Moto G, but that was way before he got his phone. And the only thing I did was delete the folder and put the one from Lollipop (had the 4.4.4 one, and wifi wasn't working after ROM install).

That pretty much solved my problem! I used Notpad ++ and modified the file on the PC, as apps from PlayStore with hex editing couldn't detect the "persist" folder for some weird unknown reason.
But if anyone gets to read this post, you only have to change by 1 ONLY the last number. If your MAC adress ends in "e6", change it to "e7" and so on (4 times as in the file). The rest let it unchecked.
Thanks again mate. WiFi working properly, as it should. Made a quick test and no WiFi drop. You rock! :good:
