CyanogenMod 7.2 Specific BASIC Kernel - Totoro
We are planning to release a kernel that con work on both devices, a BCM21553-common kernel, but that is hard work, as we must compare all the files from kernel, and test everychange.
FEATURES:
Due to the kernel is pretty advanced, we are not talking of a TO-DO list, we are talking about a FEATURES list, so the FEATURES are:
Kernel just compatible with CM
Specific Basic - Samsung official not-modded sources
EXT4 support
CWM Inclluded on kernel with EXT4 support too
Images of CWM patched to show good colors
Bluetooth and Wifi configs added to work with CM7
Common ramdisk used based on kissingmylove and PsychoGame
Ramdisk optimized for CM7 and EXT4
Compressed through LZMA
IMEI working on CM7
Offline charging working on EXT4 CM7
Added fully working temp. CWM by our team
SOURCES:
KERNEL SOURCE (GPL) is the official samsung kernel, as it is a specific BASIC kernel:
Sources of kernel: http://opensource.samsung.com/
I needed to modify the configs to get a BT, Wifi, and EXT4 working, this is not included on Samsung stock kernel, so I leave here the config source:
Source of defconfigs: https://github.com/broadcomCM/android_kernel_bcm21553-common_configs
Ramdisk has been also modd to create a bcm21553-common ramdisk that all users could use. SOurces to ramdisk can be found extracting from my kernel (LZMA) or also on github.
Sources of Ramdisk: https://github.com/broadcomCM/android_device_samsung_bcm21553-common_ramdisk
If other kernel developers want to contribute on this, shot me a PM, and I'll talk with you.

Is this will work on CM 9.1 Alpha ? and can work on stock ROM or other custom roms ?
if anyone has any problems with this kernel and installing the cm7 rom see my post

NO CM10 ALPHA 4 SUPPORT YET
Hi XDA members and fellow Galaxy SL users:
My name is Ooi Kai Sheng, and I'm a 8th grade student, and currently attending schools everyday. A little while ago, I started working on the current 2.6.35.7 kernel (Released by Samsung) for our device. As some of you know, our device doesn't have a fully stable CM9/10 yet due to the lack of some components such as DSSCOMP and ION in our kernel. Therefore, me and Adi_Pat(a.k.a Aditya Patange) have started the work of backporting them from the OMAPZOOM 3.0 kernel. Our current progress is at a state that we have to backport some parts related to memblock in order for the ION memory allocation functions to work.
THIS KERNEL IS BASED ON SAMSUNG & dhiru1602's GitHub Jellybean Source Code. So it is COMPATIBLE ONLY WITH SAMSUNG GALAXYSL (a.k.a. i9003) JB/CM10 Builds.
Installation Instructions:
Here's a step by step instruction to install this kernel:
1. Download the file from below (via phone directly or to a PC).
2. Copy the downloaded zip file to somewhere in /sdcard.
3. Reboot into CWM Recovery.
4. On the selection menu, select "install zip from sdcard', followed by"choose zip from sdcard".
5. Navigate to the path where the file is stored.
6. Select the file, select yes in the confirmation screen.
7. Reboot your phone.
TO DOs:
Backport the ION memory allocation functions into current 2.6.35.7 kernel.
Changelog:
See 2nd Post.
Features:
See 2nd Post.
For Kernel Devs/ KANGers/ Developers etc:
Just a statement regarding kernel source: The Kernel Source is of course covered under GPL version 2. Free software does NOT mean no work or time was spent working on it. I have donated a large sum of my free time to this kernel. If you want to include my kernel in your project or use my source code, please mention it in your post, give proper credits and a link to this thread. Also, please send me a github pull request or PM whenever you find bugs or think you can help improve my kernel further. This way the entire community will truly benefit from the spirit of open source. Thank you.

Thank you for coming up with this.
If iam not wrong this is the first custom kernel compatible with JB builds for SGSL.
A request: Please post the original kernel Tar file. If any one wants to shift back to normal kernel so they can.
Nice. No obligations but can I request you to make a version that's compatible with MIUI since the MIUI I linked is based on Dhiru's CM10 Alpha 1? Tried flashing this on the latest MIUI but I got a bootloop.
Thanks bro:thumbup:

HW Composer
Sorry if you take this as a noob question, but does this kernel include the experimental HW composer features that dhiru introduced in the experimental alpha 12 of cm9? Some people reported them as working. Also could you please list all the governors that you have included in this kernel.
Thanks.
thanks for the kernel, good work,
it is smooth and can feel the the difference of speed,
but device gets too hot I had to get back to 1ghz
Please do add more governors to the kernel base like smartassv2 and lionheart.
Being using it for past couple of hours phone feels smooth, everything works fine too.
Just suggesting a name for the kernel.....
How about terminator kernel?
Thanks for this great effort! could you add Dhiru's default kernel in case we want to go back? thanks :good:
but I see a new kernel
ho my god! it's party here
consume this small jelly moderation MouHaHa ?ยง!
I thank you test
is good because I have a lot of custom rom nexus of a port
I feel that the wheel turns for our i9003
it was time
wowww.....!!
Working like charm.....!
Tried this bluetooth fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896171 with this kernel and it is working perfectly.
Initial release so expecting alot more in terms of governor.
All the best
in test !!!
for now ty for your great job

#updated to new version
osm kernel
Awesome kernel!!!!! Touch feels great .....phone feeling more smooth
It'd be great for gaming!!!!!!:good:
Development Goals:
- stability
- energy savings due to more efficient ARM algorithms
- strictly no overclocking unless approved by the manufacturer or my source base integrates it (also, even if my source base integrates it, expect no support for it)
- no undervolting as well unless the manufacturer approves it since it's relatively pointless IMHO...
- all improvements should require MINIMAL user interaction (e.g. you don't need to do anything except flash the kernel or at the very least use SetCPU or the like to set fixed options)
- stability
*note: FAQ is at the 3rd post
<MOD EDIT - Link Removed> Latest Kernel Here
20151028_14XX:
- see GitHub :silly:
20151008_15XX:
- enabled ZRAM for swap
20151005_13XX:
- made additional ramdisk changes to prevent FC with the Settings app
20151003_16XX:
- rolled back some ramdisk changes which might cause slowdown
20151002_15XX:
- might as well release this...F2FS support enabled...
- many commits again for performance and efficiency
20151002_14XX:
- updated ramdisk to enable some things I haven't integrated yet but plan to...
20151002_09XX:
- uploaded to personal site and compiled using updated compiler
20150923_08XX:
- fixed sensors
20150922_15XX:
- too many additional tweaks to enumerate...just go to my GitHub
20150917_20XX:
- start of stable CM release
- MIUI not supported since they upgraded firmwares without updating their repo
20150817_17XX:
- I "think" I solved the sleep bug thing but needs to be tested further
20150813_23XX:
- merged some commits from CAF which is necessary for mi4-dev's LPM SOD fix

- fixed mobile data not functioning due to turning off RMNET kernel option
20150809_22XX:
- added a kernel for use with developer ROM
*still for testing as I'm on stable
**someone reported a bootloop so it might be discontinued next release
20150808_22XX:
- started over with my changes since the 64-bit architecture seems a bit finicky with what I merge...
- tons of improvements from CodeAurora :fingers-crossed:
- also finished trimming the kernel configs for aligning with stock as the config provided by Xiaomi has some things missing :silly:
- report any bugs since this is still a sort-of base build
20150804_17XX:
- added all seemingly useful modules existing stock ROM has
*flash back stock ROM to restore since there are ~10 modules replaced
20150802_19XX:
- initial recovery flashable release (tested on TWRP for Mi4i)
*note that since this replaces the WiFi module in /system/lib/modules/pronto/pronto_wlan.ko, you'll need to restore that if you flash back to another kernel
- finished merging all applicable commits from my other kernels (too many to list so just browse my GitHub)
*still has an unresolved deep sleep issue where it only deep sleeps half of the time
20150801_10XX:
- initial release
- compiled using own GCC 5.2 compiler
*not yet in recovery flashable zip format so for advanced users for now

Nothing yet. It's been a chore modifying all my build scripts to support out-of-tree module compilation and I'm yet to work on the zip file support. When that's done, you can refer to my other kernels in other devices for what I'll put in since I have a unified development tree.

EDIT: Noticed that my phone now have a problem: I connect the charging cable, but the device doesn't charge. Need to reboot and then it start charging.
Really think that this is a kernel bug. How can I confirm it?

This is a general problem with the Mi4i. Don't know if it's kernel or ROM related although I've tried to fix it in the kernel side so it's less frequently occuring.
I have tried the Kernel yesterday quickly (so no kernel log, sorry) and got bootloop on 5.8.6

Thanks. That makes 2 report of bootloops on dev ROM. Might have to not support it after all.
Please don't use this with 6.7.1.0 release. Xiaomi made some changes which makes the kernel crash due to a GPU hang when initializing SurfaceFlinger. We'll have to either wait for Xiaomi to update GitHub or revert to 6.6.10.0 in order for this to work. )
@intersectRaven will you update the Kernel to support MIUI 7?
Thank you

Mod sound? Link please, I'm getting no sound at all. Otherwise working as good or better than when I bought this thing.
Edit: Looks like dnd was on by default, all sound working well now. Camera doesn't seem to work, but Camera Zoom does (and who uses the n7 camera anyway). Layers work. So far so good!

Just FYI, if you provide a binary of a kernel you must offer sources as per GPL
I do not need it (I am done with N7 work) but you are otherwise on shaky legal ground

Hi @yattodettaman thanks a lot for your hard work!
Just only a question, i've installed the new kernel and follow the aroma wizard for customizing kernel parameter.
EX kernel manager 2.101 does not allow to tweak any settings, is it normal? With the previous version it worked letting me to choice all parameters.
Have a nice day.

init.d support
Hi.
For starters I would like to commend for the roms of the 7.1.1-7.1.2 series and for the experimental kernel. It's a great job.
I have one problem with init.d. I put script in /system/etc/init.d and gave it the executable permission.
The script has a call to the command: 'service call SurfaceFlinger 1008 i32 1'
This command turns on the option "Disable HW Overlay".
However, at startup the script is not executed. In the script I also posted a command that writes the restart date: 'date >> /storage/2CA6-1DE2/log.txt'
And this is also not done.
Script file - /system/etc/init.d/11FixOverlays:
Code:
#!/system/bin/sh
service call SurfaceFlinger 1008 i32 1
date >> /storage/2CA6-1DE2/log.txt
Script running manually works: it turn on the "Disable HW Overlay" option and writes the date of the file.
How to force the system to run script in init.d when system starting???
I have installed ROM AOSP 7.1.2 Release R2, Elemental X 6.07 Kernel, and SuperSU-v2.79.

The kernel has init.d support.
The rom is AOSP. So if you want to enable init.d script flash this with Twrp https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/mod-universal-init-d-enabler-android-t3396695
