[Q] (req) gpu oc N5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can any dev out there add GPU oc too their kernel ? I have a nexus 7 (2013) with GPU running at 600mhz
I was wondering if it'd be possible at all too do the same on the nexus 5. Considering its been done on the xperia z1 which uses the same GPU.
Xperia kernel thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2660679
Would it be possible or difficult? I know that kernel is only compatible with CM' and I wouldn't mind if that was a requirement for it too work on the N5 but id prefer it was implemented on a kernel that would work with slimkat -specifically- slimkat 4.4.2 v3.2 stable
Any response or help on this subject would be greatly appreciated

Check it cl3kener on g+ his uber kernel has built in GPU oc.

Thanks for the fast response ' I'll check it out hope it suits my needs

its possible, but its pointless. you get no gain from it, except faster battery loss. and thats not really any gain. plus we are limited to 60 fps, no matter what. you can disable the fps limit, but you will get screen tearing from it.
to unlock the fps limit..
debug.egl.swapinterval=0
copy/paste this line into /system/build.prop/then reboot for it to take affect.

I'm not looking for battery life which is why I asked, I have my max CPU speed set @ 1.5ghz and max of 2 cores on ever, I lose 1% battery overnight, I just wanna see what this thing can produce

as i said, you will not see any gain from it. ive already done some testing with it. if there was any gain from kit, it would of been done with trinity kernel in december. but, there wasnt any gain, so it was left behind.
---------- Post added at 07:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:21 PM ----------
the gpu on the nexus 5 actually scales, between 200mhz and 450mhz. so its not always using 450mhz, only when needed. you see more gain from setting the min and max gpu speed to 450mhz than you see from overclocking the gpu.

Thanks for the info , I appreciate it ! I was disappointed trinity didn't have it , I was very fond of that kernel and GPU oc on my galaxy nexus

I'll play around with that kernel for a while and exp with the min and max frequencies too find what works best for me, and I'll probably go back to setting CPU freq @ 2.5ghz max 1.5ghz min , I know I have a problem and a real need for speed
Another question, would I have too manually edit the GPU speed on uberkernel using root explorer? I didn't see Amy config options GPU related on trickster mod, maybe I should use kernel tuner instead ?

I believe stock clock is 533 on uber kernel.

Hi,
There are the GPU settings in Trickster Mod (frequency and governor). You need to update the app with the last beta version since they added support for the Adreno 330. It's under the specific tab.
And yes 533 Mhz is the default GPU clock in this kernel, but you can underclock to the stock GPU freq (450 Mhz) with Trickster Mod.

[Q] Tiamat 1.4.0 Quadrant Scores

Hi,
I have successfully flashed Tiamat 1.4.0 on my VZW Xoom.
The release notes say that out of the box, Quadrant 3000 and Linpack 65.
However, I'm only seeing 2000 in Quadrant and 43ish in Linpack.
Is there something I have to tweak to take advantage of the OC? (A CPU governor, perhaps?)
I was only able to get those scores with setcpu running in performance set to 1504mhz.

Thanks, pyee. Is there a way to set max frequency with a free app?
Linpack and Quadrant both show max at 1534, but I don't the Xoom is running at that speed, clearly.
I don't think there is a free OC app for Xoom. Droid OC by jrummy is $1.50 and is worth $5.0 IMO. Not as feature rich as the updated module, but it has many useful features, plus its supporting a great Dev.
I am also not getting 3000 on Quadrant
Ran it twice only so far, 1500 and 2000.
I have SetCPU set to 1504 max and 258 min, on demand.

I got it to 2750 with 1504 min/max, performance.
Linpack I got to 63 with those settings, as well.

Your problem is on demand. It is useless on Xoom. Use interactive and see what happens. Use performance and see what happens.
Edit: Volta beat me.
Thanks guys, performance got me 3276
Cheers
Performance still gives me ~2650. Maybe I have to get rid of some unnecessary applications... Been thinking about doing a fresh install for a while now.
I get 63-64 on Linpack, and 3587 on Quadrant. SetCPU on Performance just now. Usually i hover around 2800 ish in Interactive.
Also worth noting is that I did reset to factory after I flashed Tiamat 1.4.0. There's nothing quite like a fresh start

Try cpu master free...
free, working great and has a widget to check speed, battery and temperature!
I've been using setcpu which is available for free here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419 and a paid version on the market. Works great.
3308 running at 1.5ghz performance profile with setcpu
Has anyone seen failures on test results when running Smartbench 2011 and Quadrant? Has happened day one since before root and and all the way through Tiamat 1.4

no really true, you need to tweak the advanced settings. i use on demand, 30,000/65/0/0 and get 2700 at 1500mhz. sure it's not as high as performance, but it's at the speed and settings i use daily, not just when running benchmarks.
also, if you use profiles, your profile for when the screen is off must be at on demand or you'll screw up the advance settings.

CyberGR v12+ what kernel for battlife?

Hey dudes. I'm going to Poland on tuesday with my class, and now I'm worried about how long my batterylife will be.. I'm currently using Matr1x v19.5 and batterylife is good, but I want even better. So my question is, what kernel do you use with CyberGR to get maximun batterylife? I won't be able to charge my phone for almost 2 days... And I don't care about the performance, just batterylife. And I think I'll use my phone "medium much". Tell me your scheduler and governor tweaks and all that.
Thanks!

I think governors and setting are overrated a bit in terms of battery life. It really comes down to your usage and the apps you have.
try this setup on your matr1x19.5
(supercharger v6)
max-400
min-200
gov-smartassv2
sched-noop
if you dont want supercharger
max-800
min-400
gov-same
sched-same
dont forget to make recovery backup if you were flashing supercharger.

you definitely dont need supercharger v6 to have good battery life it doesnt play nice with all setups and its more centered around performance than battery life. And certain governors will make your cpu jump to the max more quickly and hold it there for longer before letting it go back down, so the wrong governor can definitely affect battery life. if your not using the phone that much turn off data, just add the toggle to your notifications to make it easier, (i imagine your rom supports that). if you cant afford to have data all the way off then turn off background syncing facebook ,gmail, music, books etc. matr1x 19.5 cfs on lazy or conservative governors give me decent battery life and good performance for simple tasks i use SIO or Noop schedulers. try increasing the sampling rate on the governor so that it polls less often. also increase the up threshold so that it wont ramp up the cpu until it really needs it like 85 or 90% at least (or higher if you want). read this if you havent already and play with the scripts for better battery that go with each governor. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369817

well im just trying to make an a option to use or not to use the supercharger.. basically supercharger is a performance but i think of a trick if its performance im trying to underclock and uc is a way of battery lufe improvement.. supercharger is not recomended to you bcoz you dont know what is it im sorry to say that make an research of it try to figure out what is that and youll find a answer on your own if you will flash it or not.. i apreciate the thank..
well if you don't use it too much, the battery may be able to stand 2 days of medium use.
smartassv2 + sio + deepIdle, limiting freq. 100MHz ~ 800 MHz, turn off mobile data & wifi.
It should be able to last a long time.
TEUV gives a great battery as well as performance.

[BENCHMARK ] Finding the ULTIMATE gaming experience.

Hi. I am looking for the BEST gaming experience on our TF700, but doesn't matter how many ROMs I,ve tested I can't get satisfied.
Please post your results here:
Plan:
1. ROM name.
2. KERNEL name.
3. CPU / GPU settings.
4. Benchmark name and results. (Please use Quadrant, but others are OK too.)
5. MODs, tricks, whatever you want to add.
6. Your Gaming experience, for example: Gangstar Vegas is playable but a bit laggy.
__________________________________________
So, I'm gonna start:
1. CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.7.0
2. JB 4.2.1 ★ Hundsbuah ★ 10.6.1.14.8 ★ v3.2.0
3. CPU: All 4 cores set to: 1850Mhz GPU: 775Mhz
4. Quadrant:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
5. No MODS, No DATA2sd, 32gb version. I was using Hundsbuah program to set CPU / GPU and may have enabled gaming mode. Gaming mode slows CPU down when it gets to hot. That may have affected the score. I was running this benchmark 3 times, and once I got something like 5009 overall? Much lower, but it was generally I/O.
6. Gangstar Vegas (Gangstar 4) playable, bit laggy, but not all the time, just time to time. 5 seconds normally, 2 seconds of Lag, and so on.
GTA Vice City:
Bit Laggy on maximum settings, quite good on lower settings.
GTA III: Simmilar to Vice City, a bit better.

deadlocked007 said:
All in all everything is laggy thanks to no optimization and tegra 3s underwhelming power with our overwhelming display... :'(
It's the same experience no matter what you use even down to the most stripped down aosp Rom.

Agree, but this is noit the point. I know we aren't getting everything from this device. I saw it on my HTC Sensation. How much OS matters. So Please post your scores. Let's find the best solution.
You've got some serious performance issues there. With Hunds OC to 1700 on 4 cores and gpu at 600 I get 6800+ on quadrant.
You've done something wrong somewhere. Have you got fsync disabled?

Sdbags is tottally right, i just recently went over to hunds with f sync disbled,
i havent adjusted any clock speeds myself and i tend to get a quadrant score of around 6500,
as for your over clocking and gaming, im not 100% sure if thats the best thing to do due to the heat it can cause and such,
i could be tottally wrong with my last line but i am being cautious and reading up a fair bit before i crank everything up,
havent found a definitive answer on that yet unfortunately.

You are right. With that high OC he will most likely achieve the opposite of what he actually wants to.
Not the OC is the problem, but the temperature control. But you do have a good point. I'll try getting lower. Thanks guys

But he is working to merge BOC3 source at the moment.

Ok so I am on asv 7 oc big cores to 2 GHz 1293.75 v and small ones to 1700 mhz on 1350 v and the the gpu on a safe oc at 700 mhz on 1062.5 v on antutu i get 35k with perfomance governor with some settings on development settings turned on on ultimate kernel my max antutu score was 43 k so anyone want to collaborate here? Also anyone posting their results please post also ypur asv rating of your board it is visible on synapse... And i gotta say that it doesn't feel butter smooth yet i mean the general ui animations. I also didn't use a fridge wasn't on powersaving mode and didn't lower the resolution to test it further yet i can get higher scores on 1080p or even 720 but since the score is so low from the start i don't expect any miracles can the op describe to us how did he get that amazing score?
Well UI is smooth here. But Antutu is low like yours. 35000 is a canceled one i think. GPU throttle frequencies are absolutely to high. My phone is not passing last gpu test with these settings. Strange is that gpu frequency stats never show any frequency above 420 MHz. The mainly used frequency is 266. That's the simole explanation for these low scores Looks like gpu oc and gpu scaling in general is not working correct atm. Anyway a nice attenpt and already good for daily use.
OP how do you got these scores?
This would be stock score
Glad to see you here!!
After the (in)glory of note3.. now we try with the 4..
My ASV is 8 using 981mV on 700MHz and 667MHz these two freq. need same voltage. And all gpu voltages must set precisely. If not test can be completed but with lower FPS so lower Score. DVFS helping to correct wrong Voltage of Freq. but this ErrorCorrectionTime seen as lower FPS.
And LL is said to has a PowerSaving bug. If "Settings/Power Saving/Power Saving Mode/Restrict Performance/CPU Performance" option ON whether PowerSavingMode settings is ON or OFF GPU does not go over 350MHz.
So go Settings/Power Saving/Power Saving Mode/Restrict Performance and set CPU Performance untick. May help
Enable 4x MSSA will give more detail but lower score so try stock values first, then find your setting step by step
For SMOOTHER UI please DISABLE "PowerEfficientWorkqueues" on Synapse/CORTEX_BRAIN menu

You already on par with SD805! (Right?)
By the way, 55k is my record with n900
Aurora rom with SueMax kernel
My setting is min and max freq @ 2.0ghz lol (btw, not my daily settings, just for benchmark)

Wow I knew that you could get theoretical note 4 performance with an OC'd Note 3 but now almost as much as Note 5 ? I think I found another reason to keep this bulky phone with me :laugh:
My highest was 59k with phronesis note 5 port.

hello guys , I'll come back with a better score ..........
I do 63 000 each time with this 6.0 Touchwiz ROM : http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development/6-0-1-touchwiz-marshmallow-note-3-t3349306
I used to get 69k with note 5 port+overclocked lean kernel. Still it's just a benchmarking. I was using power saving daily because at the end battery life is more important.

Got 58k as DarkLord ROM without optimization.

Woah stock! With all stability, you could get that high on n900, maybe i should go back to stock eh lol
Since my 55k score mean my phone would be unstable for daily usage.

I just think that Antutu gives the highest values in the new version only for new phone models have very high ratings. In previous versions just get around 40k and 54k now without changing the Rom or overclock or anything.

Yess, you're right, i6s used to be around 68k below the S6 and now, it is all the way to the 130k?! I know the new app version is more compatible with the new platform but that's far
Back on topic
I think it's almost impossible to best my own score @55k with my settings, always around 54-55k, i havent try any other rom though. :silly:
Can you guys give some tips on kernel settings etc before benchmark?

What's your phone version? (N900 or N9005)
Also dont rely on kernel only, a stable rom also gives a good antutu score.

N9005 -I am just curious as all the Rom's I have tested are give or take 45-55k score so when I saw these screenshots I assumed there must be kernel configurations you make prior to benchmarking..

I posted all settings below the screenshot in #1
Only changed GPU governor to performance later on.
