[BUG?] Not receiving SMS [comes in but disappears] - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/0...p-receiving-calls-and-text-messages-for-some/
So this is all I could find regarding an issue a friend of mine is having.
Fully stock Nexus 5 using GOSMS for messaging.
The messages show up in notification, but don't show up inside the SMS threads.
Eventually they appear, but not always.
Also their messages don't auto sort into the order they are received.
Re-installing didn't fix that, installing another sms app didn't sort it either.
Any suggestions short of doing a full wipe ?

How about on the stock messaging app or on Hangouts?

[Q] Issue with Stock SMS App and Google Contact Groups

I wondered whether anyone else has seen this behaviour in the Stock SMS messaging app.
To set the scene I have a Vodafone Branded Sensation with the latest OTA applied.
When I create large text messages, so over 500 Characters which splits into 4 messages, I try and use a Google contact GROUP as the recipient. When I do this just before I click send I get the dreaded message "mms app has stop responding and needs to be forced closed".
I have no other option than to hit close, this then forces the app down and also doesn't save my mammoth message I just ticked in!!
Anybody else seen this happen, I swear it was working pre the OTA update!!??
EDIT: The same behaviour happens with Handcent SMS, which makes me think something more sinister is going on here!

[SOLVED] Google Voice Through Any Messaging App with Cyanogenmod

I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS SOLUTION. JUST SHARING
XDA user Koush has found a solution to using google voice with any messaging app. Here are the steps to take
Beta 2: Google Voice through any messaging app
0) Google Voice must be installed with notifications enabled (for now).
1) Install a recent +CyanogenMod nightly. July 1st or later. You need the SMS middleware patches I put in for PushSMS. (see Gerrit)
2) Push this apk to /system/app: http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/babel-2-signed.apk adb install will not work. The app requires system/signature permissions.
4) Start Babel, choose your Google Voice account. Authorize it.
Fixed since original release:
* Registers with AccessibilityService automatically.
* SMS sent via GV website, etc now sync to the stock messaging store.
* If you're running a +CyanogenMod build from last night, the duplicate GV notifications will be cleared.

What are the chances of getting this to work without using a CM ROM? I use a TW-based ROM on my Galaxy Note 2, and since I am on Sprint, I have completed the Google Voice integration. I sometimes reply to texts using the web interface from my PC, and I'd love to be able to sync my conversations so they appear on my phone as well. I would also love to be able to use Textra or a similar messaging app instead of the boring official Google Voice app. However, since GV doesn't support MMS, could it work so that MMS is sent using the carrier messaging infrastructure?

Voice+ Delayed & Multiple same messages
Anyone having Voice+ delay your messages? Sometimes text messages will come through right away, but most of the time it will take several hours or a reboot to get the messages to retrieve. When it does retrieve them, my phone blows up with messages because I get each message about 4 times. I'm curious if anyone else is experiencing this. It's been hard to find any info since I've been unable to find anyone talking about issues with it.

This does happen to me as well. I haven't found any way to reproduce the issue on demand; it seems completely random whether I receive the messages right away or if there's a delay.
Me too. Today I tried emptying my Google Voice inbox, clearing data for the Google Voice, Voice +, Messaging apps.
Still have problems having messages delivered properly.
I am on the 10/9 nightly 10.2 build.

It started doing this for me as well. I've noticed that I receive messages only if I send one out, and also everything I receive is double. I do get it only once on Google Voice.. If I'm looking at my phone when I receive a text, I see the Google Voice notification, and it never makes it over to the SMS app, until I send an SMS out, then I see the messages.
Same here. Also, sometimes txts will not send from stock (stuck at "sending"), but messages sent from GV app go out instantly.
Sent from my XT875 using xda app-developers app
I'm running Vanir and it appears to be working fine. The only problem is SMS received appears to be coming from a random phone # and not the number it was sent to me from. Anyone else?

Me too. Sucks very hard. Anyone have a fix or reference to a tracking thread??

[Q] No notification for Voicemail SMS

There are a lot of reports of missing voicemail notifications on Nexus 5. I think I've read them all on this forum & some others including CyanogenMod threads about the Nexus 5. My specific problem:
On my Nexus 5, Voicemail SMS messages are being received from my carrier (O2 Ireland), appearing properly as unread SMS in my default messaging application (Handcent).
Every time they do, there is no notification icon in the drawer and no notification tone.
In my attempts to fix the problem:
I had this problem on stock KitKat when the phone was new with the 4.4.2 release, up through the 4.4.4 OTA upgrade, and continued to have the problem after installing CyanogenMod 11 with both the M10 and M11 releases.
I have disabled notifications in both Google Hangouts and the default SMS app ("Messaging").
Switching between Handcent and Messaging as my SMS app has no effect on the problem.
Using Google Hangouts as my SMS app is not an option for me, and Google Voice won't work with my phone number which is outside North America.
I have tried setting "Reminders" for unread SMS in Handcent, but it does not send reminders for notifications that never happen in the first place.
My current workaround, which is a poor one especially because it relies on keeping the phone display active all the time, is to use the Handcent Widget on my home screen which always displays the number of unread messages. At least this way I can see when the Voicemail text arrives, with an unread message count on the Handcent icon.
I am hoping to find any of the following:
Why the phone software (Android and/or its applications) gets the voicemail SMS but suppresses the notification
An APK or Market application that I can use to work around the problem
A software patch for this problem, or even a different ROM that has the problem fixed
One thing I have not tried is eradicating Hangouts from the phone. I wanted to start this thread first to see if there's a better way. If there's no suggested alternative, I'll try this and then post the result.
removed Google Hangouts, still nothing
More information: I have removed all the updates relating to Google Hangouts, rolled it back to the factory version, and removed the APK. Testing it at every step showed no change to the voice mail problem. So Google Hangouts may not be "stealing" the notifications but it doesn't mean the phone isn't hard-wired to deliver them to Hangouts or Google Voice.
I am following up with my carrier on this thread to see if there is a way of fixing this problem at the service level; it can be found by searching the O2 Ireland Community Forums for Nexus 5: no voicemail SMS notification (I can't post the link here).
Also, I am surprised not to have had a response at all from the community here. I have always believed xda-developers was a resource for developers at any level, even those like me who are at the first stage of trying to learn how the phone works. Even a tip about how phone notifications are delivered, and what might be getting in the way of them here, would be a help.
Handcent no voicemail notifications on Nexus 5
Problem was eventually solved by installing Chomp SMS. After seeing the same problem on both Handcent and the stock messaging app I had decided it wasn't likely to be an application problem: in hindsight, that was wrong. Nexus 5 appears different than other phones in that each incoming SMS from the Voicemail number replaces the last one. That tends to make the messaging app not issue a notification... but Chomp SMS must work differently since it isn't subject to that problem.
While still on Handcent I found the workaround of deleting the Voicemail message thread or last & only Voicemail SMS after every Voicemail notification. That forced the next one to be treated as "new" and triggered a notification every time. Today I wouldn't wish that workaround on anyone but the Handcent developers.
BTW in last few months of experimentation SlimKat has turned out to be a better choice for the Nexus 5 than CyanogenMod.

Messenger Apps

I have the Mate 9, but Android Messages will not function properly on it. It will only show "Unknown Sender" and will not allow me to reply to messages.
At the bottom, it says "Sender does not allow replies". Anybody else have this issue?
same here. aching for the fix!
i had same problem, switched to Textra app and I love it.
I was having a similar problem with my daughter (using a Samsung Active). Her messages frequently arrived as Unknown Sender, and in group MMS messages her messages would never download. Frequently her simple SMS texts to me would show as "Download Failed". So I switched to Textra and that resolved the issue, but I wasn't happy that I could not use the stock Message program or Android Messages. I called AT&T and they re-provisioned my Mate 9 on the account, and I reset the APN to Default in Settings and now everything works fine. Odd to say the least, but at least it works now.
Yancy
Not talking about mms.
ALL messages are from unknown sender
If rooted, have you tried freezing the stock SMS app? Did you restore your SMS from an application?
Sent from my MHA-L29 using Tapatalk
Not rooted. All other sms apps work fine.
There is another thread where I answered this question. Do NOT download Google messenger from the play store. For some odd reason it doesn't work. You have to go to apk mirror and download the apk from there. The only way to get rid of unknown sender is to delete all texts and start over with a fresh install from apk mirror. It fixed the MMS problems as well. I don't know why you have to do it. You just do.
So far I got the app to work. First, I downloaded it from the Play Store. Then I deleted my messages. Afterwards, I restarted the phone then it started working.
Bad thing is messages won't appear even after backing them up.

SMS delivery report without notification?

Hopefully this is just another setting I overlooked. Is it possible for the stock SMS app to receive delivery receipts without showing a notification?
Never found it on stock SMS app, but always moved to another app soon after annoyed hell out of me..
Switch to Android messages. Not available for stock SMS app.
