[Q] can i update a file via email - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I’m looking for a way to update a file (override it if need be) on the SD Card from an email attachment with one click, sort of like a Batch file in windows.
We have 50 tablets at work and every now and then we need to update a price list file. Most of the users are not Too bright and cant copy from the attachment and then navigate to the correct folder and then paste the file in. I would like to know if there is any way to automate this like a batch file in windows, is it even possible.
All tablets are using 4.2.1 and are Asus TF300T and NOT Rooted. I usually email the updated file then have to spend 15 min with EACH person holding their hand to update it. Any help or direction to a thread with something similar would be very appreciative

Nobody ever had the need to do this ??

Ok if this is not the correct spot to post this question, then where should i ?

[Q] Help with "Stock Android 2.2 Keyboard"

Hello, I recently upgraded to Android 2.2 (Froyo). I was unhappy with not having the (all so accustomed to) Android keyboard and began researching alternatives. I stumbled upon this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=780683
I downloaded the file (.zip file) and succesfully got it on my phone. However, I do not know how to go about using a 'root' or what a 'root' is, and I also don't know how to copy the
"/system/app/LatinIME.apk
/system/lib/libjni_latinime.so"
to the system folder.
Any helpful responses will be greatly appreciated.
U r far far away from doing this....!!!!
Rooting is firstly necessary... Its the process where u get access to ur system files by deleting some system files via softwares and/or programming skills.. It also void your manufacturer's warranty..
Do not root only for installing a keyboard..!!! Its a big thing and not for beginners..!!
Then again u have to install custom recovery which is, kind of like bios in computer!! Via custom recovery u can install zip files!!
Good day

Thanks for your replies. I don't necessarily want to void my warranty- being a construction worker and all, phones need to be able to be replaced cheaply- so is there any other possible way to get a free keyboard like the Android 2.1 one? I found a free 7.1x keyboard that was good and easy to use, but you had to pay in order to get options (such as turning off that incessant tapping sound).
Any good free keyboards anybody can point me to that are simple to install?
try this link..
scroll at the middle of the page.. u will see a download option.. download those keyboard apps.. it can also run or other devices besides htc.. download your correct resolution keyboard (download all and see which works best for you)
you will download a zip file.. install the two apk's BY BROWSING TO THAT FILE USING A FILE MANAGER AND THEN CLICKING THE FILE...
GO HERE TO DOWNLOAD
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?p=5475283
INSTALL THE ONE WHICH FITS YOUR RESOLUTION
TRY THE LAST ONE 1ST(LOWER RESOLUTION KEYBOARD)
AFTER U SUCCESSFULLY INSTALL THE TWO SOFTWARE GO TO settings->language & keyboard and then check mark the htc ime keybord..
then suppose u want to use it to text.. then open messaging-> new message
then press and hold the blank area where u type ur text.. select input method and click htc_ime keyboard..
also u may go to settings from the messaging and select htc_ime to use the keyboard..
GOOD DAY
Oh yeah!!
Unzip the files u download to your phone's memory card 1st!
I have the .apk files in my SD card. How do I install them?
browse to the files using a file manager.. the file manager is provided in every phone..
now go to the files.. and install them one by one.. to install select the file.. that is touch the files and then press install..
Thank you kindly. I should have mentioned I had a Galaxy S Vibrant. The one I downloaded did have a resolution too low but I guess i'll just try out a few more and go from there.
Again, thank you.

[Q] tool for opening .rar file ??

any tool for opening a .rar file on wp7.5 ??
i am also looking for something like that.
Opening - for what? What would you like to do with rar content?
Presumably, the same think you'd do with the ability to open ZIP files on the phone, which it already has (I've never actually needed to do this, except for hacks, but it works).
The RAR format has some annoying restrictions around its use; some developers don't like it for that reason and are therefore less likely to develop for it. You'll probably need to get a C/C++ RAR library and then port it to the phone and access it through COM. Doing it all in managed code would be cleaner (and would let you put it on the Marketplace) but I don't know if there are any managed implementations to work from, so you might have to write the whole thing.
@sensboston
actually i wanna open the mail attachment whic come in .rar format..
GoodDayToDie, here is the managed code to work with rar archives: http://nunrar.codeplex.com/ (and project already has SL implementation so it can be easily ported to WP7 platform). Technically it's possible to create .rar extension handler (for full/policy unlocked devices) but I see no reason why this should be done...
vivek27, I still don't get why do you want to open rar attachments? What are you going to do with unrared files? You can't play 'em or install 'em or read 'em. Just unpack to the rar-handler isolated storage file? Why?

[Q] [HELP] How do i get rid of this FREAKIN update notification message??

:crying:
So i just downgraded to ICS again since JB is waaaay too slow and seemed not working well with me.
My current version is 4.03 with US .30, rooted of course. Here's the thing.
My freakn stupid TF700 keeps alerting me with this message.
"New firmware update is available"
I DON'T WANT UR DAM JELLYBEAN UPDATE! I REALLY HATE THAT and do not even wanna see the word ''update" any more
it seriously freaks me out and I wanna kill myself every time I see anything related to 'UPDATE' or 'JELLY BEAN'..
EVERY SINGLE TIME I turn it on, they show me the message. Even if i ignore it once, it is still stuck in the corner of my tf 700 as u can see
from the pictures I attached. In those pictures, things in blue box are able to erase or delete by just sliding it to the right or left.
But those in red box are undeletable. There's nothing i can do to get rid of those stupid update icons and notifications.
What can I do to NOT see this notification again? I will do anything...
PS. While i was reading HTC forum, I found a thread with the same problem and one of em suggested solution
by adding something like this to the build.prop
(ro.config.htc.nocheckin=1)
Of course this one is for HTC EVO 4G LTE so theres no way it's gonna work on my TF 700
but could there be something like this that I could use for my infinity?
If your device is rooted, rename /system/app/CMClient.apk and /system/app/DMClient.apk to e.g. CMClient.disabled and DMClient.disabled - that should prevent starting them at the next reboot.
And, just to contribute something to the community's collective knowledge, please upload your file /cache/dlpkgfile somewhere - I want to know if that is a direct upgrade from 9.4.5.30 to 10.4.4.20.
Problem solved

Well, right after posting this article, I started deleting things using root explorer to see if anything can solve the problem.
Since I am not an expert, I deleted pretty much everything that seemed useless for me, including DMC and CMC whatever they are.
If i knew what I know now, I could have just renamed them, but anyway those files are completely gone now.
and Hallelujah! The notification's gone too. Thanks for your support tho.
I don't know if you still want my dlpkg file since the problem's solved already.
If you still want it, just let me know where to find that file (exact location/directory of the file) and where to upload it.:good:

Yes, please. The exact location of the file is "/cache" and the name is "dlpkgfile". I just noticed that the file will be rather big (~185 MB) and only a small detail will reveal if it is interesting in its entirety, so if you have such a file on your device, please do the following:
- download the dlpkgfile file to your PC and rename it to dlpkgfile.zip
- extract \META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script from the zip
- attach the extracted file (~291 kB) to your reply post
If the first lines of updater-script indicate that it's an update from 9.4.5.30 to 10.4.4.20, the whole file can help users who downgrade to root and want to re-upgrade to the latest JB.
Alright

Here it is.
I don't know why, but I couldn't upload it here with its original form (which is just a file named 'updater-script')
so I added .zip at the end. I bet you know what you have to do now, just delete '.zip' part and use it for the community.

Code:
assert(file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "asus/US_epad/EeePad:4.0.3/IML74K/US_epad-9.4.5.30-20120907:user/release-keys" ||
file_getprop("/system/build.prop", "ro.build.fingerprint") == "asus/US_epad/EeePad:4.1.1/JRO03C/US_epad-10.4.4.20-20121026:user/release-keys");
Nice, that's a direct upgrade from 9.4.5.30 to 10.4.4.20. That confirms my theory that there are dlpkgfiles that bundle multiple incremental updates into one.
If you could upload the complete dlpkgfile to some file upload service, US users who want to root their tablet without unlocking would be grateful for a one-step upgrade to the latest JB, having to mess with OTA RootKeeper and the manual upgrading process only once. (I personally don't need it, since I'm unlocked and on WW firmware)

[Q] Transfering data to new phone

Hi Peeps,
Could anybody help me with the following please?
I am trying to transfer some app data from my old Samsung phone to my new N5. The app is Driftwood Apps Stronglog. I have contacted the developer who has sent me the info below but I cannot find the file nor folder.
>>>>
Right now I don't have a way of transferring the database. However, the database file is located in data/data/workouts/workout.db if you can get write access to that directory you could copy that file over to your new phone
11/01/2014
To: [email protected]
Hi. I love your strong log app. I've just changed phones and would like to transfer the data from one to the other. Is this stored in a particular file please?
Titanium backup is the best way. You need to be rooted.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Directly copying just the workoutsDB.db to the appropriate place on the new phone, after Strong Log has been installed and launched once worked for me. (On a Moto Razr Maxx)
I tried it a few other ways without luck, but their dev emailed me these specific steps and it did the trick:
1. copy the original workoutsDB.db file somewhere
2. install Stong Log on the new device
3. open Strong Log (the schema for the database is created on initial opening of the app)
4. close app.
5. find the new workoutsDB.db file and delete it.
6. add the old workoutsDB.db and reopen the app.
Click to collapse
Couple of notes:
A. On my phone the workoutsDB.db file lives in /data/data/com.driftwood.workouts/databases/. You need root to read and write to the /data directory.
B. The only file I replaced was the workoutsDB.db file. I left the workoutsDB.db-journal file, and the rest of the files that are created on first launch as they were after the first-launch.
C. I killed the Strong Log app after doing the first-launch of Strong Log and before replacing the workoutsDB.db. (May not matter but seemed safer to me.)
D. When you re-open Strong Log, it will still ask you for your birthday, but it makes sense that birthday wouldn't be part of the workoutDB. Once you get past the birthday screen, your old workouts are all there.
:good: Go get strong! (And remember how strong you used to be!)

File On Pixel 2

Guys-
I got my Pixel 2 yesterday and its been a great experience so far. I browsed to my download folder, and I was surprised to find a file called "e9ec4b41d4cc7fc2377b3826b7ba4cf2cd9d053b.bin" in the download folder. Does anyone know what it is? A quick Google search pulled (1) result This is not the one that was on my device but surprisingly the same file name. Any ideas?

The number in the name looks like a hash, but I have no idea what that file is.
I actually was hoping someone would post their a systemui.apk and framework-res.apk. trying to get system colors and whatnot. Anything would be greatly appreciated
I noticed it on my phone a few days ago. It was dated Dec 5th, coincident with the date a system update was to be made available. The file was visible to the download app but was not visible over USB to either the dolphin file manager or simple-mtpfs. When I used the download app to move it into a subdirectory it became accessible over USB. According to the linux file command it's a JAR file.
My phone is updated to Nov 5th. 5 days after the Dec 5th update was due, I check for updates and my phone still says it's up to date. Perhaps the mystery file is a dropping from an update that for some reason failed or was interrupted.
