unmounted usb notification cant be removed - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

if i use an otg usb before to remove i unmount it from the memory menu in settings and then unplug it an "unmounted usb" notification/alert shows up in the notification area but cant be removed and cant be swiped away, the notification state "please add usb memory storage" did you noticed? im on the last update. am i wrong?
by the way, if i unplug the usb key without unmounting an alert that the key has been unplugged without unmounting shows app, alerting to unmount it before unplug nex time, this notification can be removed and swiped away. its correct to unmount the usb key or its like in windows and i can unplug without caring about it with no problems?

That´s exactly how it works for everybody after latest OTAs, which fixed (in a way) OTG USB storage, so don´t worry.
It´s a known bug also on Moto X.
I usually go "the dirty way" and unplug without unmounting (and then swiping away the notification) and nothing bad happened to me for last three weeks my ROM is patched. Not saying it´s without potential issues.

so the notification should stay there for ever until you wont plug again an usb? silly.
im not worried for the phone or for the data in the usb key but just for my usb memory i really care about it i dont want that get burned from the phone. i know that in windows there are two mode to access usb storage and the default mode let to unplug without mounting, the other let transfer datat faster but state "its more dangerous if the drive get disconnected without unmounting" i was guessing if theres any danger with android like in that case
anyway i will do like you i think without unmounting
by the way theres a way to remove the notification, if you long click on it shows an "app more information" menu, that open the adroidui.apk information, if you press terminate the notification goes away, actually also the wallpaper goes away and yo uhave to set it again

As far as I know unplugging without unmounting carries very little risk to data integrity (using common sense and not doing it while some data processing is going on) but I never heard of risk to the memory itself.

I did a very simple Tasker Profile to get rid of that icon.. Enjoy.

Neverending series of problems

I am almost getting to the point of blowing this entire thing off out of pure RAGE. WARNING: LONG POST AHEAD!
Now where to start...
My LG Optimus V via Virgin Mobile has been having every problem in the book lately. I have retrieved a new one from Virgin itself, so that should take care of the problems with calling and whatnot.
However, there are a few pretty major problems with the old one. Okay, QUITE a few.
Here is a list of my old phone's problems:
SD card slot will not read anything
Phone will not connect to computer via USB
Phone's Bluetooth is not recognized by computer ("Unable to get Bluetooth FTP Remote Folder content. Please check that your device is turned on and working properly.")
Phone will at times say my memory is almost full when at other times it says there are 8 more megabytes left
Phone's keypad will disappear in-call and will not return, making it impossible to check voicemail or dial extensions
I have installed the drivers direct from LG. I have tried booting in recovery. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling those drivers. I have tried booting/rebooting with all kinds of random patterns to the point that my headache has amplified. I have tried to hack the connection settings with an SQLite app. I don't even see an option for USB connections except debug mode. I have tried Bluetooth through Total Commander. Absolutely nothing I find is working to get me anywhere.
For the record: My computer is an ASUS laptop with an i7 processor and Windows 7. I have tried this same USB cord with my previous phone (a Samsung Captivate that also has issues) and it works fine. Also, my phone charges through the USB port, but it isn't recognized by my computer.
Given this entire list of problems, there are a few things that are suddenly becoming impossible to do since the backup routes are blocked off. Firstly, I want to transfer my data to my new phone so it's like nothing happened. Now, this is more a "want" than "need" but it certainly would be nice. Therefore, I need to get my USB setup working. I have Googled extensively for answers... and haven't found any that work. Which is ridiculous because I feel like I'm in an extreme minority... because the answers are working for others.
Eventually, I unpack ADB and...

Great. Just bleeping great.
Second, I need to unroot my phone before sending it to Virgin. I don't want to get in trouble with them. So once I have my data backed up, I need to work on reverting the phone to stock - a factory reset and an unroot. That is impossible without being able to connect to my PC. Like... I have these saved but can't start the operation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27670666&postcount=8
http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...uide-100-stock-lg-optimus-v-all-versions.html
See, I have found plenty of answers for each individual problem, but everything tends to overlap. I have completely confused myself. I am getting a headache from all of this new terminology to me and all of these different answers...
The first step should be trying to figure out why the phone isn't connecting to the computer. That may resolve a slew of other issues and allow me to run ADB. But I'm fully prepared for that not to get me anywhere.
What can I do? Where should I begin? Is there anything that's even possible with this mess? Anything to go on would be greatly appreciated! And feel free to ask me any questions you have about it - I will do my best to answer
you mentioned that your phone is rooted, and I suppose that you have recovery, so try this, connect phone to pc trough usb, boot into recovery, go to mounts and mount usb and see if your phone is recognized by pc(try LGMDP and if it does, update it, but you must have ADB enabled in phone settings development) and pop up the window with sd card content

Booting into recovery and doing that got me this:
E: Unable to write to ums lunfile (No such file or directory)
I couldn't mount "system" either. Well... maybe I did, but it didn't do anything?
Great. Just great. I am lost and confused like a little puppy dog right now... :/
I appreciate your suggestions. Thanks!

USB Mass storage support

I upgrade from z2 to z5 Dual. Everything is great, except slow camera startup, poor battery, and worst of all, usb mass storage support is gone. Could anybody tell me how can I enable back USB mass storage? Thanks!
Hah! At first thought strange....should work....what may he have done wrong?
I tried three different USB-OTG cables with two different USB sticks EVER worked.
NOTHING WORKED.
So I went out into the internet to find out whats wrong?!
Here is the solution:https://support.sonymobile.com/glob...de/Connecting-your-device-to-USB-peripherals/
Upgraded from z1 to z5. Sometimes i was using z1 with usb cable as flash drive (in usb connection mode - usb mas storage enabled). It is useful, when you need copy something from pc to your phone SD-card. And that pc wont search drivers for media transfer protocol mode.
Unfortunately there's no usb mass storage mode in usb connectivity options. Is that feature hidden somewhere else?
You mean connecting your mobile to the pc AS a mass storage ? or connecting usb w/ otg cable on the mobile ?
If it's the first choise you probably traveled time from 4 years ago, since Android 3 or 4 Mass storage is definetly gone, nothing else than this ever sucky MTP...
Thanks Google and Microsoft..
MTP is currently the best solution to avoid data from being corrupted in the midst of transferring file(s) or resources that linked to extsd .
I dont see anything wrong about that.
It sucks for typical user, it is maybe convinient for developper but actually what matters is the user..
It is slow as hell, you can't do two thing at once, it requires some external driver on most computer (Windows update for Windows, and a driver to install on archlinux) there is no advantages
For those looking for a solution to avoid MTP while connecting the Z5 to PC this is a perfect solution: Link

O RLY ?
It sucks mighty balls, cause it's slow as hell (1 MB/s)
then there's the limitations of only being able to copy a certain amount of folders & files at once, ...
Developer Options & adb push to the rescue ! :good:
(that is ranging between 3.5-5+ MB/s for me)

I really hate the mandatory MTP connection on new android versions , too. It's definitely slower in transferring, viewing, doing generic things.
If you have root you can try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=os.devwom.usbsharereval
I remember it working (badly) on my old samsung phone, try playing a bit with the settings and particularly choose external sdcard if you have one. It might work with a ton of luck
USB mass storage option was there in my Z3 Compact with Android 5.1.1. (Don't remember if I checked it after upgrading to 6 not long before I replaced it with the Z5.) It really sucks that it is not there with the Z5. I can list a thousand reasons why I would prefer mass storage mode over MTP...

I found a tricky workaround to share ONE folder READ ONLY (not r/w) as MASS STORAGE using two apps:
- install and run http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-universal-mass-storage-enabler-beta-t3240097
click "enable usb mass storage"
- install and run https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=os.devwom.usbsharereval
(if you have problems like from comments on play store, google "usb sharer v2.2.2" and start it in offline mode)
*add a folder tapping on the + (to share full internal sd add "/storage/emulated/0" , to share external sd card use "/mnt/media_rw/yoursdcardnumber" )
*tap on share (if asked to enable UMS mode, note that this shouldn't appear because already activated through the first app)
- folder will appear as pendrive on your pc. No more slow loading of files / files not showing /slow file transfer
you can only view/copy files NOT delete/add/write
Everytime Sony USB mode selection window appear on the phone, simply press "cancel" and dismiss it.
If you have more success with mounting folders with only one of those app, plese share. The first app is needed for me because it keeps USB mode on UMS, though it does not work for me for mounting External sd.

Are you getting an icon in the status bar when you connect your device? If so, pull down notifications and you'll probably see USB options, if so, set it to MTP.
or, go to system settings>storage and see if there is a setting to enable Mass Storage.

You misunderstand
I meant look for the icon in the status bar on your device, not on the PC. I told you to "pull down notifications", the ability to pull down from status bar to see notifications is an ANDROID feature, not PC, pay attention.
I meant for you to look in system settings>storage to look for a Mass Storage setting on your device, not on PC.

I'm done with trying to help you because you don't understand anything I've said. My replies have been simple and direct, I've explained it three times and you still don't understand what I've told you.

Usb conection problems - nothing helps

Hi,
i cant connect to my phone normally via usb. System windows 10 says "USB device not recognized". I know its a poplar problem and many solutions is on the internet but for me no one solution work. Only way to connect my phone is via wifi debuging via android studio. Maybe someone know that one more solution that can help me ? Is there any chance is that phone problem? I tried difrent cables, computers ... nothing. pls help
Did you install the right drivers?
Make sure you're using a usb data cable (like the original one included with the phone)
Try different USB ports on your computer.
Make sure you've set your pixel to "Data transfer on USB connection".
I'll repeat the last point again, because it's probably the solution to your problem:
Make sure to set your pixel to file transfer when you plug in the phone to the pc. Most people say that the pixel defaults to "no file transfer" or just "charging". That isn't any good for you, as you want to transfer files. Once your phone is connected to your computer, swipe down to your notification shade, and you should see a normal or silent notification that has to do with the USB connection. If you have usb debugging enabled, it will also show another notification for that. Click on the one for the usb connection. It will open a menu, here you must select "File transfer". You might have to do this every time your connect your phone. Some phones have an option to change the default setting in developer options.
Hope I helped!
If I solved your problem, please mark this post as the solution, to help out other users.
Yes i have a correct drivers and cable but windows said that its not drivers for it. After plug usb in android what it must do after connection is all blured.

Would have preffered it if the image was in english, oh well.
try selecting the option on the top and seeing if windows can get any drivers for it.
if you've got no luck, then install the drivers manually.
When i try this first option (USB stering by conected device) it says "Cannot connect"
I try instal manually but dont work. For windows this is not a mobile device.
I have a pixel 4a that took a quick swim. The USB port allows charging but not data.
It's probably not the same thing you are seeing, since it literally doesn't show up as a port to either the phone or the PC.
I wasnt have any water conection or damage. I dont know what it could be. Do you think its a port problem? Windows sees some device but wont select good driver for it. I can't do it even when i pick exactly driver for it. Its frustrating that i watched video's that says " its Simple and now lets do this or that" and of course i have biger problem with it. Like i said i have connection VIA android studio. Maybe is there any file that i can put to Pixel for better recognization ?
Try using an installer for installing its drivers, rather than manually installing signed/unsigned drivers in device manager.

I don't understand. How can i install driver other than in device manager ? I do install drivers by Android studio too. I can see that even my external mic (Blue yeti with usb c adapter) is not visible for pixel. I tried too with external memory and it works fine. is there any chance that is faulty usb port?
Please let me know what do you mean with installer. Thanks for responses.
edit. I tried also with forcing in developer options usb connects to media files transfer. dont work
A bit off that NOTHING works, could be a faulty port. Bring it to a service centre or a repair shop if a service centre isnt easily accessbile for you.

Can you rule out that it is a Windows problem with your specific Pixel 4a device by simply starting a bootable Linux (Ubuntu, Mint, etc.) from a USB flash drive and trying the connection there?
Ah ... tried to open pixel, and for no reason screen dies. Opened it gently with no breaks but now have litle flickers. I bought Nord 2. I see in auction in Poland one more person have usb problem so i guess its finally port problem (this module). Thanks for all responses and help.

Question [Resolved] How Does One Transfer Photos from Windows 10 to a P7P?

I admit I didn't look at the speed, but I regularly send files to my PC or vice versa from my PC to my P7P and it is almost instantaneous.
Really fast
I read the news report about Nearby Share Beta for Windows Release...
It's a beta release. I don't do betas. To me, a beta release is nothing but bugs and trouble, and being neither a cellphone nor a computer geek, I don't need the aggravation.
Also, I haven't started to figure out Blue Tooth.
It appears that I therefore won't be able to copy files to my P7P but...
somewhere along the line my P7P has a photo that I must have transferred from my PC, so I need to take a look at that.
Sounds like your cord or port isn't working correctly, try a different cord and/or port. This happened to me and I just plugged into a different port and never had a problem since.
I finally figgered out how to transfer files back and forth between my computer and the P7P. Then I wrote down the exact procedure so I won't forget.
And you're not going to share what worked, in case someone else has a similar problem?
Oops - forgot the procedure
I wanted to include images in this, but I haven't gotten that far with my P7P yet. So here is how I set my P7P up and how I transfer photos back and forth:
TRANSFERING FILES BETWEEN COMPUTER AND PIXEL 7
Configure the P7P:
Turn the phone and the computer on.
Using a 24-pin USB-C cable, connect the P7P to any USB-2 or USB-3 port on the computer. Be sure all 24 connector pins are present at each end of the cable. Not all USB-C cables have 24 wires. If the computer does not have a USB-C connector, use a USB-C to USB-2 adapter.
From the P7P Home screen, tap "Settings". A "Settings" menu should appear.
Tap "Connected devices". A "Connected devices" menu should appear.
Under "Other devices", tap "USB /file Transfer". If "USB - Charging this device" appears, you can tap that. A USB Preferences menu appears with "USB" centered on the next line.
NOTE: "USB File transfer" may appear instead of "USB - Charging this device". In that case, just tap "USB File transfer".
A "USB Preferences" menu should appear.
Under "USB controlled by" tap "This device". Under "Use USB for", tap "File transfer / Android Auto".
Now open Windows Explorer on the computer. You should see "Pixel 7" or "Pixel 7 Pro" and a cellphone icon along with the drive list. You can now transfer files using the following procedure.
Transfer the Files:
Start the computer, open Windows Explorer, connect the USB-C cable to the computer, and start the P7P. You should hear the usual "bloop-de-bloop" from the computer, and the P7P's Home screen should appear.
In Windows Explorer, double-click the blue "Pixel 7 Pro" icon. A menu should appear and you can now move/copy files back and forth.
I transfer between Windows Explorer and "Pixel 7 Pro\Internal shared storage\DCIM".
If you enable developer options you can set default usb to file transfer and skip a few steps.
