Question [Resolved] How Does One Transfer Photos from Windows 10 to a P7P? - Google Pixel 7 Pro

I can transfer from the P7P to my Windows 10 computer but cannot figure out how to do the reverse.

You can't just copy and paste when you have your phone connected to the PC?
Anyway, maybe try Nearby Share.

I tried dragging a JPG from my computer to the
but get this message: "

How's the transfer speed? Last time I used it it was using bluetooth for the transfer and it barely broke 100kbps lol

I admit I didn't look at the speed, but I regularly send files to my PC or vice versa from my PC to my P7P and it is almost instantaneous.
Really fast

I read the news report about Nearby Share Beta for Windows Release...
It's a beta release. I don't do betas. To me, a beta release is nothing but bugs and trouble, and being neither a cellphone nor a computer geek, I don't need the aggravation.
Also, I haven't started to figure out Blue Tooth.
It appears that I therefore won't be able to copy files to my P7P but...
somewhere along the line my P7P has a photo that I must have transferred from my PC, so I need to take a look at that.

Sounds like your cord or port isn't working correctly, try a different cord and/or port. This happened to me and I just plugged into a different port and never had a problem since.

I finally figgered out how to transfer files back and forth between my computer and the P7P. Then I wrote down the exact procedure so I won't forget.

And you're not going to share what worked, in case someone else has a similar problem?

Oops - forgot the procedure
I wanted to include images in this, but I haven't gotten that far with my P7P yet. So here is how I set my P7P up and how I transfer photos back and forth:
TRANSFERING FILES BETWEEN COMPUTER AND PIXEL 7
Configure the P7P:
Turn the phone and the computer on.
Using a 24-pin USB-C cable, connect the P7P to any USB-2 or USB-3 port on the computer. Be sure all 24 connector pins are present at each end of the cable. Not all USB-C cables have 24 wires. If the computer does not have a USB-C connector, use a USB-C to USB-2 adapter.
From the P7P Home screen, tap "Settings". A "Settings" menu should appear.
Tap "Connected devices". A "Connected devices" menu should appear.
Under "Other devices", tap "USB /file Transfer". If "USB - Charging this device" appears, you can tap that. A USB Preferences menu appears with "USB" centered on the next line.
NOTE: "USB File transfer" may appear instead of "USB - Charging this device". In that case, just tap "USB File transfer".
A "USB Preferences" menu should appear.
Under "USB controlled by" tap "This device". Under "Use USB for", tap "File transfer / Android Auto".
Now open Windows Explorer on the computer. You should see "Pixel 7" or "Pixel 7 Pro" and a cellphone icon along with the drive list. You can now transfer files using the following procedure.
Transfer the Files:
Start the computer, open Windows Explorer, connect the USB-C cable to the computer, and start the P7P. You should hear the usual "bloop-de-bloop" from the computer, and the P7P's Home screen should appear.
In Windows Explorer, double-click the blue "Pixel 7 Pro" icon. A menu should appear and you can now move/copy files back and forth.
I transfer between Windows Explorer and "Pixel 7 Pro\Internal shared storage\DCIM".

If you enable developer options you can set default usb to file transfer and skip a few steps.

Windows doesn't find my S710?

Hey guys,
I'm having a little (big) problem with my HTC S710 (Windows Mobile 6.1).
I used to put MP3's, CABs and AVI's on my mobile through a USB-cable. Whenever I put a USB-cable in my phone everything worked right away, and an 'Removable Device' was found on my PC.
However, now when I put the cable in my phone (and PC) nothing happens (the phone starts to charge, but my PC acts like nothing happens, it doesn't even say 'New Hardware has been found').
I'm running Windows 7 (people reported Windows Mobile Device Center having issues with Windows 7, but it used to work on Windows 7 so that's not the problem).
Things I tried:
2 different cables
Reinstalling Windows Mobile Device Center
Updating Windows Mobile Device Center (to latest version, 6.1)
Unticking 'Enable advanced Network functionality' in Settings
Manually run ActiveSync on my mobile (and PC)
Restarting the PC (doh)
Restarting the phone (doh)
Looking in my phone-settings, couldn't find anything strange
Booting in safe-mode
My laptop doesn't have Bluetooth so that's not an option.
I tried all kind of things from the internet, but just nothing seems to work. It's not a problem with my USB, because whenever I put my digital camera in my laptop everything works just fine (with the same cable).
I hope someone can help me here...

It looks like you were using WM5torage, didn't you? And now it is disabled. Because standardly your device is not shown as removable drive. I should be wrong, because I don't know, how W7 are working.
Try to pair your device via WMDC and you will see, if it will work.
Can you give me instructions on how to do that?
Thanks in advance
Sorry, I can't, because I don't have W7.
But I have Windows Mobile Device Center for Windows Vista installed so it should be the same
Then it might be same as in Vista. You have to connect your device with USB cable and everything should be done automatically. If not, you might try this two things:
1) Open WMDC and click on connection settings (I am not sure in this english translation, because I have czech one). Check, if USB cable is allowed. If yes, go to step 2
2) You might try disabling advanced USB functionality via settings->connections->more->usb to pc and uncheck box on your device (not computer)
Now, your device and computer should pair with no problem and you can browse your device with no problems.
I can't help you with WM5torage, because I am not using it.
Thanks for your help, but:
@1: The checkbox was already ticked
@2: As stated in my first post, I already tried that (without any luck )
Thats all weird. Just one thing. When you start ActiveSync on your device and open connections. Do you have checkbox ticked and USB selected?
And second thing. You wrote, that you have W7. Did you have your device paired on that same configuration and W7 build and just lost your connection? Or you had your device paired on oldest build of W7 or Vista?

The checkbox is ticked, yes.
It was paired on previous build of Windows 7, but I already removed those synchronisation profiles on my S710, so it's now paired with 0 computers..
So in your device, there is no paired computer and in computer is no paired device?
Exactly
That is really weird. Maybe some W7 bug? WMDC bug? I have no ideas how to solve that...
I have no idea too, someone else?
PS Thanks for your help
Here how i solved it...
I had the same problem until i did a new search for driver on a unknown device in the device manager. My problem was that the driver that windows 7 tried to install didnt work but after a new search it found a better one and after that it worked perfectly! Good luck!

Can't copy my backup folder to PC

I have been racking my brain and can't for the life of me come up with a solution to my problem. I have the unlocked OP8 completely stock. All I want to do is copy my images from the phone to my Widows 10 PC. Something I have done with other phones in the past, shouldn't be a big deal, right? First I tried to simply plug my phone in, enable usb file transfer, and copy the files, and it seems to go like it's copying correctly until it is unable to copy files in "MyCollections" from when I tried to do some sorting of pictures that were from specific holidays or events. It will copy the DCIM folder fine.
My initial thought was that perhaps there was some kind of permissions complication since the collections were made with the oneplus gallery. So I used the OnePlus Switch app. I figured that since the app is made to make backups, it should be able to make a backup and then I simply copy that to my computer. Apparently that too is wrong and it fails to copy once it gets into the "MyCollections" folder.

Please disregard the "New Folder" naming when I was initially copying the files over folder by folder. That folder was the date and I was trying to see if the files would copy before typing it all out. For the purpose of drag n drop it would be irrelevant.
In a last ditch Google search of ideas to try, I tried to use ADB in an administrator command prompt to copy the files with the command "adb pull /sdcard/opbackup" on my PC. Only to have that too fail
"
pull: /sdcard/opbackup/MobileBackup/Data/2020-06-22-230448/Video/Pictures/MyCollections/Balloon Fest 2019 /VID_20190810_211137.mp4 -> ./MobileBackup/Data/2020-06-22-230448/Video/Pictures/MyCollections/Balloon Fest 2019 /VID_20190810_211137.mp4

"
I browsed to the video it was complaining about, opened it in VLC media player on my pc without a problem. I'm having this phone replaced, and for most of these pictures/videos I have no other places they are stored.
I really thought just copying the backup to my pc would solve my problem, but seems I can't actually determine what the real problem -is-. If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it. I have less than 24 hours before I have to either get the pictures copied, or lose them.
Hey there,
Please follow this:
1. setting
2. about phone -- tap build several times until "you are now a developer" comes up.
3. tap back arrow and go into systems.
4. tap developer options and scroll down an enable usb debugging and tap OK.
5. plug your phone and usb cable into your PC.
6. Pull down notiffication menu and tap on android system -- tap again and select file transfer.
7. Provided that all of your usb drivers are installed in your system, dialog box will come up and select your op8 -- open files.
I hope this helps provided that I understood your situation.

Unfortunately the fact that I issued ADB commands to the phone would mean I had usb debugging enabled and it had the drivers installed correctly. The problem is not starting the copying of the pictures/videos, the problem is that it fails both using copy and paste like you described and even trying to use ADB to pull the whole backup folder from the phone that way. There seems to be some kind of complication that I used the gallery to create the groups of pictures "My Collections". It will copy the unsorted pictures and videos from the DCIM folder just fine. But there's close to 800 pictures I have sorted in the My Collections that for whatever reason, it won't let me copy no matter how I try.

I don't suppose you could upload your collection to google drive or some cloud service first and do what you need to before you lose your data? Thoughts?

Since I am about out of time I opted to copy what I can, and subscribe to a year of Google Plus to get plenty of cloud storage to back everything up. So most of my pics are copied. And what it wouldn't let me copy from the "My Collections" will be mixed in with all the other pics in the cloud. Figured the $20 /year wasn't a bad price to pay. Still would have preferred to keep them backed up locally - but I'll make do with what I can.
Hey, if you still having this issue I managed to fix it because same thing happened to me.
The issue is that some folders have space at the end of their names for some reason, if you look at your error - Balloon Fest 2019 . There is a space after 2019 - "Balloon Fest 2019 ". Just remove the space in the folder name and it should fix it. Do the same thing for any further errors.

Cannot Unlock Phone - Cannot Update USB Driver - Resolved

I've read other posts, applied some of the suggestions, but have not been able to solve this issue. I have the current Mi Flash, I have added my account to Developer options, enabled USB debugging. added Mi account to Mi Unlock status, and oem unlock, I have turned off wifi and am using cell data. My Mi account is OK, Sim accepted. I hear the Windows notification when I plug in the phone. I don't see the phone in Explorer when I'm in bootloader. I do when the phone is not in bootloader. I have logged into Mi Account with my phone # and email address - same error either way.
Issue, I start Mi Flash and after signing in, this message briefly appears on the screen, "Checking if your Mi Account has permissions". This message disappears and then Mi Flash goes to the next screen. I follow the instructions to the letter and finally plug my phone (several times) in (it is bootloader). The Unlock button on the bottom stays grey.

I wait and wait and it doesn't change. I open settings, I click the button to install the drive - I get an error:
At this point I'm stuck. I'm not sure its a driver error - the phone connects to my laptop OK and I have been able to transfer files. MTP is set default to "Transfer Files" vs charging.
As an update, I found the Poco in Device Manager, Portable devices with the following driver:
I'm guessing that this might not be the correct driver, but am not sure.
I would appreciate help with this problem. I hate the bloat Miui serves up and would like to move on to a ROM that it simple and safe. Thanks
I can't unlock too
I'm still trying to figure this out and need help. I connect to the phone through USB OK. I can access it via file explorer as a drive labelled Poco X3 NFC. I can add files via explorer and search through the phone. However, I installed Mi Suite to check drivers and with the phone connected Mi Suite pops a screen that says connect to device to usb. It already is, but I unplug and plug back in anyways, same error then it changes to this:
So its odd that it connects to the PC but does not seem to connect to the internet or Mi Suite. Is there a better USB driver to use for this. I found a Qualcom driver V1 and an adb driver R-13 Windows.
Well you have the needed Windows driver than.
Check Windows app/system error messages for clues. You may be missing a MS library or such.

I'm on W7x64. Goggle it. It you use Windows you should have discovered this important system app within you first year.
Example:
Side by side errors used to be common; missing x64 MS library (you need 2, one for 32 bit and one for x64). Sometime the apk developer fails to included in their app software; they don't need as it was needed to code the app. To run the app and get full functionality on a 64 bit system you need both libraries; a simple download from MS.
Perhaps they are now included in the 64 bit OS's unlike the XPx64 days however it's also possible the file got corrupted or deleted if so.
This is the kind of critical information MS Event Viewer can show you. It records App/System/Security events with a time stamp.
OK, this is solved. This time I went through the unlock process on my wife's Win 10 laptop. Drivers loaded, windows setup the Poco. Same thing, greyed out unlock button. I clicked on the button to install the driver and this time the driver install completed, versus the error I posted above. The screen popped back to the Unlock screen, with the Unlock button live. I clicked on one confirmation screen after the other until I got the confirmation to wait 143 hours to unlock. Glad this frustrating event is over. Hope it works at 143 hours too. Of note, I did turn off wifi and used data to unlock. I read somewhere to do do that. No idea if it made a difference.
Yay! Windows can get funny about loading drivers sometimes. You just need to play with it a bit many times to resolve the issue.
Keep Event Viewer in mind though as it can show you errors that are slowing your system down, security issues and more.

Usb conection problems - nothing helps

Hi,
i cant connect to my phone normally via usb. System windows 10 says "USB device not recognized". I know its a poplar problem and many solutions is on the internet but for me no one solution work. Only way to connect my phone is via wifi debuging via android studio. Maybe someone know that one more solution that can help me ? Is there any chance is that phone problem? I tried difrent cables, computers ... nothing. pls help
Did you install the right drivers?
Make sure you're using a usb data cable (like the original one included with the phone)
Try different USB ports on your computer.
Make sure you've set your pixel to "Data transfer on USB connection".
I'll repeat the last point again, because it's probably the solution to your problem:
Make sure to set your pixel to file transfer when you plug in the phone to the pc. Most people say that the pixel defaults to "no file transfer" or just "charging". That isn't any good for you, as you want to transfer files. Once your phone is connected to your computer, swipe down to your notification shade, and you should see a normal or silent notification that has to do with the USB connection. If you have usb debugging enabled, it will also show another notification for that. Click on the one for the usb connection. It will open a menu, here you must select "File transfer". You might have to do this every time your connect your phone. Some phones have an option to change the default setting in developer options.
Hope I helped!
If I solved your problem, please mark this post as the solution, to help out other users.
Yes i have a correct drivers and cable but windows said that its not drivers for it. After plug usb in android what it must do after connection is all blured.

Would have preffered it if the image was in english, oh well.
try selecting the option on the top and seeing if windows can get any drivers for it.
if you've got no luck, then install the drivers manually.
When i try this first option (USB stering by conected device) it says "Cannot connect"
I try instal manually but dont work. For windows this is not a mobile device.
I have a pixel 4a that took a quick swim. The USB port allows charging but not data.
It's probably not the same thing you are seeing, since it literally doesn't show up as a port to either the phone or the PC.
I wasnt have any water conection or damage. I dont know what it could be. Do you think its a port problem? Windows sees some device but wont select good driver for it. I can't do it even when i pick exactly driver for it. Its frustrating that i watched video's that says " its Simple and now lets do this or that" and of course i have biger problem with it. Like i said i have connection VIA android studio. Maybe is there any file that i can put to Pixel for better recognization ?
Try using an installer for installing its drivers, rather than manually installing signed/unsigned drivers in device manager.

I don't understand. How can i install driver other than in device manager ? I do install drivers by Android studio too. I can see that even my external mic (Blue yeti with usb c adapter) is not visible for pixel. I tried too with external memory and it works fine. is there any chance that is faulty usb port?
Please let me know what do you mean with installer. Thanks for responses.
edit. I tried also with forcing in developer options usb connects to media files transfer. dont work
A bit off that NOTHING works, could be a faulty port. Bring it to a service centre or a repair shop if a service centre isnt easily accessbile for you.

Can you rule out that it is a Windows problem with your specific Pixel 4a device by simply starting a bootable Linux (Ubuntu, Mint, etc.) from a USB flash drive and trying the connection there?
Ah ... tried to open pixel, and for no reason screen dies. Opened it gently with no breaks but now have litle flickers. I bought Nord 2. I see in auction in Poland one more person have usb problem so i guess its finally port problem (this module). Thanks for all responses and help.

Question I have 2 identical S21 but only one can connect to AA

Hello everyone.
So I recently bought 2 Samsung S21 for me and my wife, but only one is recognized by our car, the other not. I suspect that somehow the problem is with USB File Transfer not being correctly enabled.
For the cell phone that works, we plug it to the car via USB cable and instantly the car recognizes it, pair and works.
For the fault cell phone, we connect it to the car via USB cable and nothing happens, it just start charging and nothing more.
I could see that the working cell phone has a "USB Settings" menu accessible via notification panel, while the other one doesn't. Talking about this menu:

I already:
Accessed the Developer Options and changed Default USB configuration to Transfering files
Did a Factory data reset (soft reset)
Restarted the car's system to factory default
Any other ideas?
Thanks in advance

Normally a phone has to first connect via Bluetooth. Check if the faulty phone does so. If not, bluetooth pair it with your unit.
Only then connect it it via USB to your unit and see if it now works.
Even though this is a phone question, next time mention what kind of unit you have, which Android version level, etcetera.

Yes @mobilefox , very important information to us to help providing well targeted answers !
Thank you for the answer.
I just noticed the faulty phone cannot transfer files to Windows and the working one can. It is the same behavior, when connected to USB, just charging. Must be something about data/transfer not enabled
Android 12 I suppose, check if , when connected via usb, both units ask for data transfer / charging only question !

Or a faulty USB-C connector. My previous Samsung had that as well.
Just an update:
I could manage to make the faulty phone to connect both to computer and car.
The only way I could do it was:
Plug-in the USB cable both in phone and car/computer
With cable connected and phone charging, access Developer Options
Changed Default USB configuration from "Transfering files" to any other options (Transferring images by example). Right after doing it, "Transferring files" turned into "Transferring files / Android Auto"
Changed back to "Transferring files"
Doing it the car recognized the phone immediately and could open Android Auto.
The only problem is that doing this, bluetooth connection gets unavailable (what makes no sense to me).
It is not the ideal, I'd like to use both AA and Bluetooth like in the working phone, but posting here to maybe help someone else having this issue.
If I can manage to get this working 100% I'll post again.
Thank you for the answers.
Btw, the Android Version is 13 and not 12 as I commented at the end of my first post.
