+1 for VLC and MX Player
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.videolan.vlc.betav7neon

For MX, get the right codec for your CPU. If you don't know what you have, you will probably find it in the little info box on the right side on Wikipedia

Whats the best app for video? This is my first android so i don't know what is "best." i need it to play MKV, Mp4, AVI, etc.... all @ HD.
MX Video Player
Thanks i will try it.
MX works very good on Fire.
Just watched Modern Family mkv in HD (720p), hardware accelerated, without lags and nothing.
PS. The only problem was the audio channel that didn't work in HW mode. Just changed that to SW decoding and everything was fine.

Yep, MX Video Player is the best video player for the Kindle Fire.

It's working on my mkv files very well. I also had to switch audio to software decode.

what about vplayer?
I have always trusted in VLC Player, however, technically its still in closed beta for Android, and not available for direct download via the Market.
With the OP being new to Android, I guess I might be expecting a little too much to say, Google for it (VLC-neon.apk), and sideload it?! But I'm putting it out there anyway!

How do you get it to work where you the gray pullup bar on the bottom doesn't interfere with the onscreen controls? Also, do you know if it can stream from Dropbox/Sugarsync? I haved some vids on SS that I stream on Moboplayer, but can't get them to stream on MX.
All The stock samsung counterparts all play mkv files. why can't the Nexus phones play the files using the container? I don't think i had any success finding players on market.... please some one throw some light on why there is no support on our devices??
Anything wrong with Dice Player? It played most mkv files fine for me, and it supports hardware decoding for h264 encoded videos.
Also try Rock player and QQplayer

That's because the native divx and mkv support come from the touchwiz framework found on those skinned phones. Its not inherent in Samsung hardware. That was the thing I missed the most coming from the epic 4g to the nexus...try mx video player on the market. It works pretty well but kind of stutters out on the high def stuff. That's the best alternative I could find. Hope it helps.
From Degobah
try mx video player. should play them. it was the only one that would play 720p mkvs for me without stuttering.
Yes...Mx player is great

try this
http://www.freemake.com/free_video_downloader/
Its free and it coverts best ... n use h.264 mpeg profile at 1280*720 or 1920*1080
Most of the video codecs are already supported by note or third party applications should be able to play almost all formats..if you are having issues transferring huge files enable usb debugging in the setting(for files below 4Gb). If you are looking for a good converter try handbrake its very good and free but if you are not familiar with encoding it may be slightly intemedating, look for tutorials online.

Convert? "Convert"? Man, if you have to convert anything to play on the Note, you're doing it wrongz.
Install the app MX Video Player, it play most formats I throw at it.

buddy go to application in setting's and click development mode and it normally transfer files ....
then download from market mx video player (the best) and it will play almost everything.
Dice player and RockPlayer are the best
this is the Samsung Galaxy Note - the stock player will play anything you throw at it. why encode in mpeg-4 when you can play .mkv? I don't see a point to downloading an external video player, period.
i have a lot of them and if you ned i can assist you with them.

No way, MX video player is the best IMO.
The Gnote can play many HD content, but when it comes to lets say a 1080p profile [email protected] with 16 reframes, it can't handle it, but MX video player is the one that gives me the most acceptable frame rate play under such a heavy HD video.
Is it possible to play x264/720p videos without lag?

Need to find a good video player without ads. Thats all
MX Player Pro should do the jobs but with a price.
