You do realize VideoLAN will be releasing VLC Player for Android very soon.
Re VPlayer ~ since the dev went Paid only with this App it's caused quite a bit of negativity.
So, whilst waiting for VLC I would also recommend Rockplayer.

I used vplayer on the tablet, and noticed it was struggling with 720p MKVs, while the native video player was coping just perfectly.
Have now discovered mVideoplayer, which does handle MKVs perfectly, and is now my preferred video player.

Anyone tried QQPlayer???

Mplayer was just ported to Android 1.6+. It was on XDA's twitter feed this morning. Haven't tried it yet on the Tab, but it should support pretty much every codec and container out there.

M player feels ok not really happy using it.

I am not able to find good video player which can play 720p mp4 files. I have tired vplayer, rockplayer which does not work for these files. Default player and QPlayer work fine but no audio .
How do i get audio back on default player or Qplayer.

i watch 720p video files that are in the mkv container just fine on the sgs using rock player what are the video and audio codecs inside of the mp4

I have tried rock player but it cant play videos properly. BTW here is the codec details
Video codec:- H.264 / AVC
audio code:- MPEG-4 AAC audio

Google it. To compile it you need the sdk

factory player not play multichannel aac this is true and there are lot of such in typically mp4 container... the other problems is vplayer and rockplayer not use hardware accelerated decoding in native mode so with strong files you will in trouble... more over these I simply don't know that fir the original player seems to need just some correct splitters as seems the decoder is very good for almost everything... maybe core player will play everything with hw decoding... hope...

What´s the best player for dreamdoid? With vplayer de-interlacing does not work very well and i have FCs

tried it but didnt play mkv file, may be the file is bad as nothing else plays it well either.

would recomend mVideoplayer,, it plays my 1080p files, i can get subtitles from mkv files too.

Best video player for sensation

Tried dice player. It only shows half my videos
Tried vplayer and rockplayer.
Rockplayer seems much more crisp and clear than vplayer.
Anyone know any good ones out there?

Coreplayer should be coming out soon you can try that once it comes out but what kind of videos did dice player not play, HTC stock player plays mp4s and avis and dice can play all mkvs??

i have tried about 5 or 6 videoplayers..
for me the best one is diceplayer because : its the best one for mkvs

I used to use QQplayer but it's laggy on the Sensation with mkv. Dice only one I've gotten to run mkv, man they look great on the Sensation's resolution!

I use MoboPlayer. It plays most format, have nice looking UI and controls.

I use the "Meridian" player, it has awesome gesture support.
But no idea on what it support, cause i recode everything.

i'm using vital player, plays almost everything, and also subs

can you suggest any player support mkv and external .srt sub?
moboplayer does show sub but no audio. dice with audio but no sub

I have sent some srt files to you. At the moment, none of the sub are displayed, regardless of type of movie (avi, m4v, mp4, mkv). Please check and let me know when it is fixed. Looking forward to viewing videos with Dice in its full glory.

i use moboplayer and mvideoplayer
but my phone is sgs2

i use RockPlayer which play everything with great quality.
I loaded a HD 720P clips to my storage card and i play them via RockPlayer and its great quality both Voice & Video

SW decoding Player : vPlayer is the best for Sensation.
vPlayer is multi-threaded app. it can use full dual core.
but other player - rock , mobo , vital use only single core.
HW decoding Player : Diceplayer is the best.
Rock/v/vital/mobo/qq can't use hw decoder ( if file is not supported from system)
if file format is mp4, all player can play HD.
but file format is MKV(+DTS), you can see huge lag.
only diceplayer can play MKV(+DTS/FLAC) HD movies.(+longer battery life )

thx for your post, i tried Dice player and its playing well mkv files

+1 for Dice Player, I have all the others installed too, but Dice Player is the best (I watch a lot of 720p MKV, some use DTS sound).

Mkv Streaming to Transformer ?

Just got my Transformer yesterday and overall I like it but one of the biggest issue that I found is that I cannot stream mkv files from my HTPC to it (or haven't found a way to do it).
Is there a player that supports streaming of MKVs ? Also, other than using Plex is there any other option to do streaming ?

DicePlayer can stream MKV files, on a CIFS/samba share. I suggest you try the trial.

While Dice player can't play a single MKV I've thrown at it (and I tried a LOT of different files) and is, IMO, a complete waste of money I second the CIFS mount suggestion. that's the only way I found to reliably and painlesly watch movies from my NAS.

I tried Dice player and it did not even play my AVIs so I don't know why it is regarded as such a great player.
Is there a noob friendly guide of using CIFS somewhere?

Dice player works great on my htc sensation, i can play all my hd stuff, was rather annoyed to find out that my phone can play video better than my tablet though. Apparently tegra 2 struggles with high profile h264.

DICE plays all my anime mkv's, It's by no means the perfect application but it does a good job with support for certain audio streams. I don't regret the purchase.

No problem with Dice Player playing mkv. For streaming from HTPC i use Bubble UPNP or UPNPlay but i think Bubble UPNP is more userfriendly.

I just download the two apps. Bubble is more honeycomb friendly, but it will be a paid app in september.
But, Dice Player through Bubble or Upnplay can't show the subtitle included in the mkv movie file. I have to download the mkv file in order to have the subtitle. Is there another way to do it through UPNP streaming only?

After a lot of trial and error I was able to stream mkv with the following combination
TVMoBili + Bubble + DicePlayer/Mx Player
Only with Dice player, the video does not shutter but Mx Player is the only one that shows embedded subtitles and unlike DicePlayer, I can skip ahead the video.

I use PS3 Media Server which work for ps3 and the ASUS tablet!
But MX Player (free version) is laggy when it come to play a 720p mkv video file. Dice Player is perfect with 720p file. It is a shame that Dice won't play subtitle when it play streaming videos.

Just saying. I'm watching a 720p video on my transformer right now using mxplayer and the armv7 codec for it and its running perfectly and no issues whatsoever.

Streaming wise, I use Qloud and it is awesome.

I still cannot stream MKV.DICE was lagging even for normal videos when Rockplayer was able to make it work well. Will try mxplayer.

Please remember that MKV is just a container, inside that container you can have almost any combination of video codec and audio codec. MP4 is also a container but it has a very limited range of allowed video/audio codecs, so it's much easier to support.
If you are using the Android system video decoding (The only way to get hardware accelerated playback) you will be able to play some 720p h.264 video streams. If you are just using the CPU to decode then 720p will never be smooth.
All these video players can do is try to unwrap the containers (Like MKV or AVI) and _maybe_ do soft-decoding on the audio if the android system doesn't support the audio codec (Like AC3/DTS)
If the player does full CPU decoding for the video stream you won't be able to play HD content smoothly, ever (Things that claim "Optimised for the Tegra 2 CPU" are still just doing the work on the CPU).
This means that there will _never_ be a Tegra2 Android app that can play _all_ MKV's it's simply not possible. This is why people are saying "Plays my MKVs fine" and other are saying "Won't play any of my MKVs"

After spending many frustrating hours trying to stream my mkvs, the only 100% working solution that I have found so far is to use MyCloud app an remote desktop into my HTPC. This way I not only have access to all my movies/tv shows I can play them with subtitles.
I know its not the best solution but at least it is a working one

I'm using Plex to stream movies, but I can't recall if I have tried any .mkv files. Can anyone confirm? If so, OP might want to try Plex... it's pretty slick.

Plex re-encodes on the fly so it'll play anything that the server can transcode in realtime. But the quality will be notably lower.

For SMB streaming I use ES File Explorer.
MX Player for avi's (SW).
MXP loads subtitles from the tablet.
Dice Player for mkv's (HW).

All The stock samsung counterparts all play mkv files. why can't the Nexus phones play the files using the container? I don't think i had any success finding players on market.... please some one throw some light on why there is no support on our devices??

Anything wrong with Dice Player? It played most mkv files fine for me, and it supports hardware decoding for h264 encoded videos.

That's because the native divx and mkv support come from the touchwiz framework found on those skinned phones. Its not inherent in Samsung hardware. That was the thing I missed the most coming from the epic 4g to the nexus...try mx video player on the market. It works pretty well but kind of stutters out on the high def stuff. That's the best alternative I could find. Hope it helps.

Mkv files, no sound?

I got my tf300 yesterday and it great except for one thing. I get no sound when i play my mkv 720 movies or series? I have tried both streaming and local. Tried diceplayer, the built in player and moboplayer without success. MX player worked when i turned of h/w and used s/w instead but then the movies "lagged". Cant get it to work, Anyone have a clue what i can do to make it work?

MX will play them via HW but you need to click the sound key next to the HW/SW button and select the other audio track. Worked for me.

I have had good results using BS player lite. And it is cool because you can change brightness by swiping up and down in the left side of the screen and change volume the same way on the right

I was having the audio issues too with MKVs. Switched over to BS Player. All Be Good.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD VLC PLAYER FOR ANDROID!
VLC is still in development, and apks have not been released. If you find a VLC apk, it is not real or it is based on very early, probably buggy code. One person that mentioned having it said that s/he had very intrusive ads. Judging by all other VLC releases on every other platform, the real VLC for Android will not have ads, or at least not obnoxious, intrusive ads.

Diceplayer plays 1080p nicely, as long as you don't got dual audio.
Glad to hear MX player can handle different audiostreams! Now i can get my anime on!

I'll guess i will use MX or bsplayer then. I just find it a bit odd that the same files plays with no problem on my galaxy S2 with dice player..

Absolute EASIEST SOLUTION!!!!!
Im running serviio from my pc and typically steam to my samsung tv's
But the easiest solution to stream directly to my s3 (i747 aokp task650)
Is:
Download and install these two apps
1.Bubble upnp https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp
2. Joe VLC https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=the.joevlc
Ive used mx and bs in the past, but this solution is just too easy and fast...
P. S. Ive streamed everything from small avi family guy episodes to 15gb mkv bluray files and this setup is boss..
Only issues i found was minute pixelation when in full screen mode on large files 12gb+ and some buffering when i jump around in said video but other than that its awesome.....
Enabling hw decoding in JoeVlc app takes care of any pixel issues but eats battery...
