Hi,
As you'll no doubt be able to tell, I'm a noob with custom ROM's. .
I have an LG P999 on Wind Mobile in Canada.
I have:
Rooted the device with SuperOneClick
Installed Super User (The Clockworkmod Version)
Installed Clockwork ROM Manager
Followed Instructions to flash Cyanogenmod 7.
Rebooted.
The phone now hangs as soon as the loading screen appears. The screen with the LG logo and blu-ish shapes.
I have tried Removing the battery and replacing it, then restarting the phone holding PWR and - Volume key.
This appears to run the vanilla recovery with very limited options. No sign of Clockworkmod Manager.
LG Support Tool cannot communicate with the device once it starts trying to update ( or perform update recovery).
I have a copy of Miui G2x 1.8.19, but cannot do anything with it.
Can anyone help me identify where I zigged when I should have zagged?
Thanks in advance.
Follow the link and use this process to install clockwork recovery.

From there you can flash whatever ROM.
If your phone remains borked after this process look up g2x cleanup batch or ROM for recovery in the dev section.

TwitchyEye, thanks very much. I followed the info you provided and have regained access to CWM.
I'll try to flash the Miui ROM for P999 and post a reply with my results.

I also made the experience that flashing recovery through rom manager doesn't always work...had the same problem, also using brainmaster's MIUI rom.

I got the same problem after flashing the Clockworkmod 5.0. Then I flashed the 4.0x version (found in the rooting guide on XDA) and it's now working smoothly

You should make sure you are erasing the old recovery before flashing a new one. This can be done as a fastboot command or through the advanced options in rom manager.

When I try to flash CWM, I get a signature verification fail error. I replaced the recovery binary but it still won't work.

The link is broken... Have tried to Odin one of Dr Honk's kernels?

The link is working again. It looks like that kernel needs adb to access recovery, which I haven't been able to get to work. Do you have any other ideas?

I'm not sure what you mean by this. Are you just trying to get it into recovery? If so, do you have the Android software developer kit (SDK) installed? The SDK includes the adb binary. Download it, install it, then open a command prompt, cd to the 'platform-tools' directory where the SDK installed, insure your phone is on & plugged in via USB, and issues the command: adb reboot recovery.
If I'm off-base with what you're trying to accomplish, my apologies.

Don't use a KFx rom, the KF1 and KF2 versions of Gingerbread were really buggy and will give you more trouble than they're worth. You're better off flashing Octane, Valhalla or ICBINB which get updated frequently.

Which also means that you need to flash a KG4 leak or newer for the proper GB bootloaders. If not, you'll get a rainbow screen.
Similar Problem
Hey Guys,
I had a similar problem. I am using Fire Expert to overwrite the new recovery to the \system\bin folder. However, I realized my mistake was that I did not mount as r/w. After I did that though and I held the volume up, down and power, I stay stuck at the initial splash screen and can't go into the stock recovery screen. I can't boot regularly either; I have to Odin recover. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Overwriting the old recovery and putting the update.zip file on the sdcard for CWM Final was for Froyo ROMs only, not Gingerbread (GB) ones. What ROM are you currently on?
In order to get into recovery since flashing the GB boot loaders I have to:
Power off the phone
Hold down Volume Up, Volume Down, and the Power button
When the Galaxy S screen comes on, wait a second, it'll get a tad bit brighter. When that happens let go of only the Power button
Wait a few seconds and you should be in recovery
Sounds like you might be a bit goofed at this point, though. If you were on GB before I'd suggest using one of the ROMs in bhundven's The KJ6 Heimdall One-Click Collection. The last one in the list will also give you root, CWM, and voodoo lagfix.
Hey. Thanks for the quick reply.

Weird. All you should have to do is put the updated recovery in /system/bin & put the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.
What is the current state of the phone? I know in the previous post you said you would have to use ODIN to recover. Did you do that?
Yes I did use Odin to recover. I did it following the link provided in the sgs4g 10 commandments. This is the second time I recovered. After I recovered he first time, I tried the process again and the same thing happened: stuck at the initial splash screen.

Just wondering if your phone is currently working or not. I wasn't sure given that you reflashed with ODIN.
Yes everything is fine right now. Lucky all of my settings and apps were still there after following that tutorial.
Perhaps file expert doesn't work?

I've not used it but if it allows you to mount /system read/write, then it should work fine as long as you're putting the 'recovery' file in /system/bin & the update.zip on the root of the sdcard.
If you try it again then reboot into recovery, what happens?

Flash a new cmw with fastboot and you'll be set.

Have you tried do go through the steps of the one click root process again? (assuming that is how to you rooted your phone the first time)
If you can boot into the OS, flash cwm twice in a row using Rom Manager. It takes two flashes to get the recovery to stick.
If no OS, push the cwm file using adb.

My friend, you don't use fastboot to flash "ROMs".
Sorry woke up 5min before writing that. Running on 4hrs sleep now. Meant use fastboot to install stock image, flash a recovery. Then use custom recovery to flash future roms. Just pointing him in the right direction. With a little reading, he'll figure it out.

My battery life with this rom is really good. gotta let it settle in for a couple cycles then you will notice this.
There us root for this rom. Im rooted, and so far have no problems. Rom is running great. Battery life is amazing.
Once you flash supersu after flashing the Rom you need to download the supersu app from the play store.
Then you need to update the binaries fir supersu to work. Since we cant get a custom recovery like twrp fir this rom, its better to update the binaries the normal way.

I can't get the drive or mirror links to work. Anyone else having issues with downloading?
The instructions clearly say flash supersu. You need to download the latest supersu which is 2.46 and flash that after you flash the Rom.
Than reboot and do what i mentioned above.

Sadly, not the case with mine. I get an error message saying "Tried to install loki_tool, no luck, please try manually installing loki_tool, app will exit."
Heres to hoping an official OTA from T-Mobile within this ROM will fix everything.
