Help bootloop !! - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi ,
Today I rooted my htc one x. Everything was fine until I tried to install a new rom. After installing the rom with cwm the phone started to bootloop.
I used my restore and it worked. After that, I upgraded my version of cwm to the newest and tried to reinstalling the rom. I ended up in a bootloop again. But now after restoring my phone , I see htc quietly brilliant splash screen and after that I see this build is for developement purpose only ... in red. The screen goes black and the phone reboot. At the second reboot I see htc quietly brilliant and the screen goes black. I need to hold power button and volume down to make the phone restart.
Can someone help me ...

Try doing a full wipe and reinstall your rom. Make sure your cwm recovery is the latest version or cm11 will likely hilltop.
Full wipe is required when changing roms.
Also check the forum for install instructions and follow them the letter

sounds like an outdated recovery OR improperly formatted SD card. I usually use TWRP, but I imagine CWM has something like a "mount" option? Can you go in there and double check that external SD card is selected? If it is, and you are on the latest recovery, I recommend reformatting the SD card to FAT32 (just in case the partition type is wrong... exFAT I think is flaky support and NTFS is not supported... not sure where ext3/ext4 sits with recovery... never tried).
failing that, your SD card may be too big. if it is 64 GB or larger, it may not be supported on your phone in recovery.
I haven't used CWM in a long time as TWRP seemed to work for me and I liked the touch interface. Mind you CWM has had a touch interface for a while, but the ROMs by pmtr3 stated that TWRP was required and I didn't want to question a dev on that, so I switched and haven't looked back.

Soft Brick CM9 bootloop- CWM 5.8.4.3 semifail

Currently I am in a soft brick state- I cant remember which CM- 9 either cm-9-20120614-EXPERIMENTAL-skyrocket-alpha5.zip, or cm-9-20120709-NIGHTLY... (I can see that those are the only two I have on my sd card. I am on an ATT GS2 skyrocket
If I boot normally - it stays stuck on the CM9boot screen.
I can use the 3 finger method to boot into CWM 5.8.4.3
While searching for answers I read that this CWM is broken.
Initially I was trying to go back to an earlier recovery. CWM would see the recoveries on the SDcard, but when I tried to recover- it would not mount from the SD card.
I got to CM( by using odin to put an earlier CWM, and superuser on the phone, then installed Rom manager, then used rom manager to flash CWM (via tmobile sgs2) then updated to CWM touch...
When I tried using the CWM to factory restore and cache wipe it starts then hangs I cant install zips from the external SD card, or any recoveries...
I'm figuring worst case - I can go back to ODIN, and do stock recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 , then flash the non touch CWM, superuser http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526, then flash a recovery from my sd card??
Is there something else I might have missed in trying to get back to a functional state without going to odin?
Many thanks in advance for any assistance

Hi there,
I recently experienced the same thing, and it was a hassle to fix--but I have got my phone working each time. The downside being that I /had/ to switch over to Odin. Mind you, I am not necessarily experienced with Android, so I can't really say that this is the only way.
At any rate, here's what I did to get it back to normal:
Load up Odin
Put it in download mode -- I assume you know to hold the volume keys and then plug in the USB.
Flash either the ICS leak or the stock 2.3.5 Gingerbread.
You should be back to good. I hope you backed everything up in either Kies or some other resource...else you're in for a hell of a time setting stuff up.
Oh: bad news about the 2.3.5 stock is that, as far as I can tell, you're unable to upgrade to 2.3.6. In turn, you're then unable to update to the official ICS through Kies or OTA. I assume you don't mind, considering you're trying to flash a new rom anyway.
Anyway, I do hope there is some bit of clarity on getting CM9 on the Skyrocket. As of now I have still been unable to do it. Just as you, no matter the settings I try, I end up being stuck at that screen. The only difference between your method and mine is that I completely did mine through CWM...nothing through ROM Manager. (Actually, I believe I tried a few differing methods involving the CWM touch and non-touch...followed many different guides but still no good.)
Hope you get it back to a functioning state. If you get CM9 working on the Skyrocket, I'd appreciate you sending a bit of details on how to do so.
EDIT: I am now on CM9. Through magic, ponies and friendship I have failed to accomplish this feat. But by pure science and the blood of a pony, I have successfully installed CM9.
After you've restored to 2.3.5 or the ICS leak (the one I was on), do the following:
- Grab the recovery-clockwork-touch U27 described below. Flash it.
- Download both the newest CM9 build from their website, as well as Google Apps, and then copy those to your external SD.
- Follow this guide: http://www.teamchopsticks.org/p/install-guide.html. Here's what's relevant to you:
Wipe data/factory reset.
Format /system (mounts and storage->format /system).
Install the CM9 zip from SD card.
Install the gapps zip from SD card.
ONLY IF YOU ARE ON TOUCH CWM RECOVERY: Format /cache (mounts and storage->format /cache)
Reboot. Let it sit for a few minutes after the first boot. Be patient.\

After ~10 minutes you should be fine. Mine took less, but I'd bet it could take longer. Please follow those directions above EXACTLY. I'll be happy to help you in any way I can if you reply to this thread/ send me a PM.
When I softbricked with the latest CWM I wasn't able to return back since it wouldnt detect my SDcard so I just loaded up odin and used recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.1.3-hercules.tar and was able to read my SDcard again which had all my backups and CM9 files. I have flashed every version of CM9 every since and still using this CWM version and havent had any problems. :good:
All better now- I used ODIN to restore to stock, then used it again to put CWM (non-touch) back on, then added superuser, then just did a restore from SDcard! Muchas Gracias all!
Should I be able to then use a restore of when I had a working CM9 (and backed up with CWM)? Or would I have to do all the cache wiping/ factory reset like I did to install it the first time before using such a recovery? (and I will try that recovery- clockwork touch hercules... latrer tonight from home)
ODIN tar to restore back to factory. I got the boot loop too. Only until after I flashed CM9 then flashed dark side wipe cache only would CM9 work for me. Only on regular CWM though. Try and give that a go.

Help! I did something to my phone!

Hello there, I have a htc one xl on At&t rooted... it has the hboot 1.14. Everything was fine until yesterday when I tried to flash AOKP. I used flash image gui to flash the boot.img then rebooted to TWRP and wiped rom, wiped everything, then installed the .zip for the boot.img I flashed... It would say android is upgrading and cycled through all the apps but stopped at starting apps... wouldnt go past it for 6 hours. I rebooted and tried to reflash the boot.img, but computer didnt recognize phone, and TWRP showed there was nothing on the sdcard
Juts mount your sd in recovery and drag a Rom over from your computer

Sounds like the initial problem was just a bad flash/download. It happens.
Try unplugging your phone, shutting down and restarting into bootloader, then hooking it up.
You flashed an incompatible kernel it sounds like.
Make sure you try flashing the kernel within the ROM

Hello everyone! Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the rushed post earlier, was on the way out the door after trying for a while to figure something out. I'd love to send a rom to it, but TWRP shows that I have 0 mb available of storage, and the computer says I must format it to access files or something. I may have forgotten to mention- I think i flashed rohan kernel b6 improperly... used flash image gui then went to recovery and clicked it and hit install ... it hung at installing for a while, and upon reboot the starting apps problem happened, followed by no rom being on there, only being able to access TWRP, and ... well, above things. If I formatted it would I be able to put twrp and everything back on it necessary to make the thing function properly? Orr.... Thanks for any help!
God bless!
P.S. Forgot to add- Not sure why I thought I needed to try to "install" rohan kernel later on in TWRP lol
P.S.S I tried to mount sd card in twrp, nomatter how many times i try to select it it wont work
Yeah just format it and then it'll show up as a drive for you then you can send a rom to it.

I'm sorry- I really don't understand what I'm going to lose if I format, like... apparently all my data is somewhere in the air now lol, but will I not lose any important things the phone needs to run? TWRP? Will the bootloader still be unlocked?
And, if above "issues" aren't "issues", then will the following steps be correct?
1. Send ROM to phone
2. Throw fastboot.exe and adb thing into a folder with the ROM/ boot.img
3. CMD prompt to flash
4. Magic
?
Thanks so much and sorry to be a pain here if this isn't that big of an issue! I was afraid I bricked the thing, but I was holding on to hope that I didn't since it seemed like a good thing that it would still boot to TWRP.
Also- not sure if this is an issue, I tried to hit adb sideload in TWRP just messing around with options, and it said it couldn't mount the SD card.... so.... yeah, is that an issue?
Whatever data you had on the sd card is gone anyway. You need to reformat to use it.
Formatting the sd card won't affect your /system files or recovery, which are stored on a different area, or cause you to lose root.
You guys are awesome. Thanks so much!
And, as you get a lot: Sorry... for being a noob. lol

You can mount your storage as mass storage with twrp.
Your PC will find your phone like a normal mass storage device.

[Help] [Q] No ROM boots! Phone always gets stuck on boot animation of custom ROMs

I Flashed derefas built Sense 4.0a Bulid#7 lite last night, it didn't boot and got stuck at beat audio screen. Tried nearly ten times, flashed two versions of TWRP and even latest CWM6. Then for a cross check booted CM10, even that gets stuck at cynogenmod boot animation.
Tried "fastboot flash boot boot.img" even, for flashing the kernel separately which i came to know via XDA forums, even then no use.
Bootloader Unlocked, S-ON.
SD Card: 8GB Class 4, even changed SD Cards and SD-Ext types ext2,3,4.
Not overclocked even once.
Is the phone's final destination is to some garbage after this(hard-bricked) or what?

Have you tried doing a FACTORY RESET. If not, no ROM will ever boot on your phone. Either do this from your recovery or HBOOT.

I went on to Flash RUU and got stuck at htc logo with four warning symbols /!\, hope thats the end of my phone.
Edit: As far as helps, I dont think no one(including devs) would coming to help us! We're totally !!!!
same problem
i have same problem. i tried flash RUU but now, my phone's screen is black with 4 triangles in corner.
Here is a simple solution
If u can go to recovery
Wipe everything ( by mounting system , data ,cache etc )
Wipe dalvik cache
Then reboot into recovery again
And again wipe everything
( this will clear ur phone problems and will clean the phone )
Now I recommend to flash cm9.1
And that's it u got ur working phone again
sent from Apex Rom Series ( aokp )
ok guys you need to unlock bootloaders again i guess because flashing RUU locks the bootloaders....flash a new recovery of your choice CWM/TWRP Wipe system, boot, dalvik cache, cache and last factory rest and flash a rom like CM9/MiniCM9/CM10/CM10.1 and reboot and make sure your ext2/3/4 partition in sd card is properly formatted before you flash a new rom and after flashing wait for 10 min atleast

If you locked the bootloader unlock it, flash custom recovery like TWRP like you did initially. Boot to recovery, flash any rom, choose something stable I suggest flash cm9 build 11 then flash gapps, but remember before flashing rom wipe dalvik cache, factory reset, wipe system, reboot phone if still doesn't boots and you get something weird flash another ruu, choose the right ruu for your country, lock bootloader flash ruu repeat from start if everything works hit thanks keep pressing it lol.
If it doesn't make a video to explain what is happening, but don't worry don't loose hope

[Q] Having some trouble installing Cyanogenmod...

Hello all!
I unlocked my HTC Desire S (with HTCdev website) and the use of "Hasoon2000's HTC Desire S All-In-One Kit"...
I can either flash TWRP 2.4.0.0 (recovery) or use ClockworkMod (recovery) to erase things and install the Cyanogenmod, but when I make a connection to the computer using USB and send the .zip-files of Cyanogenmod to the SD-card and try to install Cyanogenmod, the telephone just gives me a white startup screen with "HTC" and then the screen goes black (backlight stays on though)...
What am I doing wrong? I once managed to get Cyanogenmod on the telephone, but reverted the whole process because a new version of Android coming out back then... I do not remember how I managed to do it back then tho...
I think the main problem is, I did not make a backup and I selected "Erase/wipe system" in TWRP on the telephone...
Where should I go from here? Is he bricked beyond repair?
Thank you for reading this!
Also... after reading abit, I came across the whole "downgrade from hboot 2.02.0002 to hboot 0.98.0002"-thing?
As I remember correctly, my hboot is 2.02.0002? I did not downgrade this to 0.98.0002 yet, might that cause the problem i'm having?

To be honest I'm not sure what you mean, but I don't think I did that... Should I do that maybe? And could you please explain or show how in that case?
Thank you allready for your reply!
Because your phone is still s-on, despite being unlocked, you can't write the /boot partition from recovery, so you have to do it manually through fastboot (every time you install or update a rom or kernel).
See this guide for instructions, specifically steps 1 and 4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525100
Thank you so much for your help, I managed to flash it and install Cyanogenmod 7 on the phone and it works flawless...
I am however a little bit displeased by Cyanogenmod to be honest... I cannot get my mobile internet to work on it (from provider, not Wifi) and there is no Google Play/Market app on it... I tried to install the "gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip" file and it installs correctly, but it only seems to install Talk or something if i'm not mistaken...
Are there better alternatives to Cyanogenmod 7 that I can ask you about? I have read about Reaper on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433816 and it seems it may be better than Cyanogenmod itself?
Ok, signing in to my Google account has enabled Market, although I can't seem to download any apps yet... Hmm... The trial and error continues...

Hey Buddy. I just got CM10.1 on my S4. What I did was install goomanager from the play store and then install TWRP that way. No flash required. Then move the CM and gapps file to the SD card. Then backup the current ROM to the SD card slot. (I'f you need help make sure to Google wwjoshdew, he has tutorials doe how to flash CM10 to the S4 that should be similar to your device) after goomanager go to wipe and "slide to factory reset" not internal storage, and then wipe system under advanced wipe. Then flash CM10 and then Gapps. Now this is what I did when following my friends tutorial and the wwjoshdew tutorial on YouTube. Good luck, I am no responsible if this doesn't work and bricks your phone.
