Q: Anyway to make nandroid backups without going into recovery? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used to use Orange Backup to make daily nandroid backups but once KitKat came out, it was no longer supported. Are there any alternatives now?

What's the problem using recovery exactly?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

it requires supervised time. with orange backup you can schedule it to run at a certain time every day. i set it up when i'm asleep.

In which case i'd recommend looking at "tasker" and this thread:

from what i just read about the orange backup app, it doesnt preform a nandroid backup, it just backups files that you choose.

Only a nandroid can backup your complete rom and restore it. As far as I know. ;l

That's the same alternative I moved to when OBackup development stopped. I support PhilipTD's recommendation. To compliment that backup solution I added FolderSync to automate coping the Nandroid backups to another device or a cloud service. To round out the device backup solution I also use Titanium Backup and FolderSync.

Me too, only as a plugin for Tasker

How long does Online Nandroid Backup take to do a regular noncompressed backup? Mine was on for over an hour so I stopped it. My nandroids in recovery usually only take about 5 min.

[Q] system backup and restore for android devices?

Hi Pros! Is there a way to like backup the system and restore in the future? I don't mean backing up apps/ data etc. I mean the system so that I can restore it in the future like the iphone/ipod/ipad. Tks
Yes, you can create a backup image to restore at a later point in time. The catch is that you must be rooted and have a custom recovery installed to do so.
Ok tks!

It's known as a 'nandroid backup' if you're looking for the term to search for.
Really good info to know.

How to backup all your data

Some ROMS require you to wipe /data as well as /system. So how would i backup all my stuff so that I can simply restore all my stuff after the changes. Like lets say im running on weapon G2x right now but I want to change my ROM to PhoenixBlood, but i dont want to lose my GTA 3 saves (true story XD). Would be greatly appreciated. And pleas don't tell me just to wipe dalvik cache and /cache. Im going to be using G2X scrubber before the install. Thanks!

Titanium Backup Pro lets you backup all apps along with their data. You can also backup system data too, but you might run into problems trying to restore Weapon's system data to PB. Basically I just use the default batch backups under "Schedules"

Yes, backups work w/ the free version. But i highly recommend buying the PRO/Donate version. In the PRO version, it features 0-click batch restores, so you won't have to click "install" for every app you restore. Plus, the developer puts a ton of work into this app, and once you buy the PRO version, its yours for life, no matter how many times it updates. Just a suggestion

It works great on the free version. Also you may want to then copy your TI backup to your PC. One time I formatted one too many things including my SD card. Lost everything, which really sucks if you play games.
Okay, thanks for the input, im going to buy the pro version

Yeah titanium backup is the way to go. Run the batch action for user apps system apps wont do ya any good and can cause issues. I would make a Android backup also can't be to careful
Making bad decision's one at a time.

As a recent convert to habitual rom flashing, the pro version of titanium and clockwork mod have been super useful. And I've always believed in rewarding people/companies that produce useful tools

along with TB this was one of the first apps I brought after rooting, chose TB as it was the first one or of the two I tried, only just started playing with this app. Only been root for couple of weeks, Rom toolbox does look good and short of played with it regarding fonts and boot images etc, not really done much else with it yet. As after root was a little scared of my phone for a couple of days. As an all in one it does look a lovely bit of kit. Both apps for me were worth the money even if one gets more use than the other

i use titanium backup pro to backup all my apps, which lets you restore just the apps you want, with or without data.. if i'm restoring all my data after flashing a ROM update, sometimes i'll use the restore data option in recovery.
Same here titanium backup pro all the way, and I make sure it backs up the data and apps to Google drive as well as the SD card. Just an extra safeguard in case I damage the card or accidentally delete all information while flashing a ROM like I did last week .

Probably not unless u had them backup'd within a ROM backup.

For future reference...always make a nandroid backup in recovery before wiping and flashing a new ROM. That way if you don't like the new ROM you just restore the nandroid. That's the only 100% way to not lose anything.

Need to restore an app from backup

Greetings!
I have my unlocked, rooted Nexus 5 that's on 4.4.3. I had to flash the original stock on since the OTA failed and then flash the factory 4.4.3 build. That's all fine!
I backed up a few days prior to this. Now I was dummy and didn't export a file out of this fuel log app. Two years worth of data in it.
I used WugFresh's Nexus Root Tool Kit and the Nandroid back included with it.
If I could recover just that app and hopefully the data that comes with it that'd be awesome! I just don't know how to go after just one app! YouTube has been rather useless cause everybody show you how to totally backup and/or restore!
Hey, if it can't be done I'm not going to cry over it.
Hope you can help! Thanks much in advance!

I'll have to dive into it! I really hadn't had a chance to sit down with it and see the options! That just made my life a tad bit easier!
