Hello
I have a Nokia E61i, and want to install Android on it. After Googling for a long time, I only found the non free M1 project which reveals to be in fact a USER INTERFACE, a skin.
At the moment, the phone has Symbian S60 (probably v3, not sure - can't find the ver in device), and sim-UNlocked. I don't have any data/USB cable (probably can buy on Ebay/Dx).
Any Android would be better than Symbian for me, including 1.0
Thanks.

i do not have much knowledge on android phones and from looking on the internet there is a lot of tutorials and information but they seem to be specific for a certain phone, like the HTC's for example.
the phone i currently have was purchased from chinavasion.com and it is a phone they have built themselves and have done so very well, i believe it contains hardware from different existing mobile phones and it runs on android v1.6.
i am really wanting to update my phone now and my biggest problem is that there is little internal memory on the phone and i am wanting to be able to save applications onto the SD card which i believe you can on android v2.2, i have heard about rooting but i am very unsure how to do it and whether it would be worth it.
any information on how to update this phone or rooting this would be very much appreciated,
thankyou.
this is the information given by the manufactured/wholesaler
* Qualcomm 7227 CPU is the same chip found in the Motorola Devour Android Phone.
* Though hacking the firmware voids the warranty, Qualcomm 7227 CPU supports all leading mobile operating systems including Android, Symbian S60, and Windows Mobile.
Note: The Android OS version on this cell phone cannot be upgraded or flashed and any attempts to modify the default OS will void the warranty. As a wholesaler, Chinavasion provides no software support, advice, or training regarding the Android operating system and software.
I would also like to have such update!
This phone is also knows under name "TWM T1" (Taiwan mobile), but that version also have donut ROM
There are nice treads in mobile01.com forum about Rooting and APP2SD
Using their instructions, I rooted, managed to install APP2SD and Google Apps on phone, so it's now much more useful than before.
Hi everyone,
I was a symbian user, for a long time.
After the android launch, nokia's symbian fall, cause it hasn't got any type of function we find on android devices.
My question is.
Is it possibily to port Android on a Symbian based mobile, or is impossible due to device pointers or bootloader not hackable?
I'm sure the experts of android will reply me.
Please be exhaustive. =D
Thanks in advance,
CappyT
P.S.: Sorry for bad english but i'm Italian.

YOU CAN´T...
android OS needs a lot of things that nokia devices haven´t (its like run win7 in a PC 386 at 30 Mhz...)
1-nokia processors are incompatibles with Android OS...
2-RAM memory of all nokia devicesw are too poor...
3-you need a system that offers compatibilitie with flash player...
4-you haven´t bootloader into nand memory (decisive for your question
5-nokia has a closed source code... you can´t obtain acces to the "OS" for modifie anythin......
6 there are several reasons.....

i OWN a compatible device, lol.
I have an Xperia X10.
But... something's in your reply...
1) I don't really know the frequency nokia phones run... but in the best of cases, at least supports flash lite 4.0... (i have it on my E5-00)
2) POOR RAM!?! You crazy? my E5-00 has got 256mb, like the Xperia X10 mini.
3) Look first point.
4) We cannot insert it, like on iPhone?
5) iPhone as a closed suorce too, but android on iPhone can be installed. (iDroid)
6) Others reasons?
Somebody good enough could probably port it into Nokia RM-593 (5230 Nuron TMOUS).
Please, there were never any CFWs for that sucker.
CPU=ARMv11, 434Mhz
RAM=128 MB DDR SDRAM, 512 MB NAND, 320 MB Internal User Storage(maybe)
SD Card=Up to 16GB
Buttons=Call, Menu, End call, volume, camera, unlock slider
Please?!!!!!!! Somebody at lease port it into Android 1.6. That is better than F****** Nokia S***.
YES. possible.
But the path is hard and long.... XD
Hi everybody, I am an engineer and I think that windows phone is perfect for my needs..so fast and efficient, office integrated, easy to use and many other qualities..the only thing that I can't find for this OS is Mathstudio.
For those who don't know what's this, it's like having a graphic calculator always in your poket. This program doesn't make everything, of course, but many of the most common things can be done with mathstudio.
I was wondering if somebody could port this program from android/iOS to windows phone 7. Otherwise I must always go around with my mobile and with an ipod touch only for this program. I remember that the previous version of mathstudio (called spacetime) exsists for windows mobile 6.5, an other way could be a porting from windows mobile. I wrote to the official developer but he said he won't realse a windows phone 7 version of his program.
Thank you for listening
Porting WinMo apps is technically possible (though hard unless they were written initially in .NET). Making an unmodified WinMo app run on WP7 is very hard and usually requires a custom ROM to run it (the stock ROMs have very restrictive permissions policies that most WinMo apps can't work with). Porting iOS or Android apps pretty much requires re-writing them, which is an expense that some app authors don't find worth doing.
There are a number of graphing calculator apps available for WP7, and the built-in calculator works pretty well for non-graphing functions, but I can understand wanting access to a specific tool. Unfortunately, since I've never used the app you describe, I can't tell you how well any of the WP7 alternatives compare.
I've got an HD7 and I've made on my own an Y-cable to downgrade it, so now I use the DFT's Deepshining ROM..I didn't know it was even possible to run some old WM6 apps on WP7, such a grat news I'll try to find out more about it Can you give me a list of alternative graphic calculators for windws phone 7? I wasn't able to find anywhere Thank's a lot!!!
I just did a search on the Marketplace for "graphing calculator" and got a number of hits.
If you look at the Opera apps for WP7 custom ROMs, those are actually wrappers around the WinMo Opera apps - the wrappers just put the files in the right places and then launch EXEs.
Thank you so much for the help , I had a look on the marketplace and I found different graphic calculators (Graphing calculator, PoketPi, Eval Graph, Grapher Calculator), but none of them can replace mathstudio for the following reasons: they are only in 2D, they don't support the CAS (computer algebra system, the same present in Matlab), you can't write and save scripts or even one algorythm. I will find out more about wrapping for the moment, but I hope it will come a better solution
Unfortunately, MathStudio will never ported on WP7 platform (according to this: http://www.mathstudio.net/forums/discussion/164/platform-requests , check the last post)
The only hope is upcoming Apollo. WinRT (Win8 API) will have C++ compiler and (probably) will support native code, so MathStudio developers can (also - possible, it's not too easy) port their app to Win8.
Hi,
I would like to change my current phone (ZTE Blade with Android 2.3). I am not to happy with the phone and not to happy with Android either. I got iPad1 but I am not a big fan of iOS as well.
All Windows Phone devices looks cool and prices for decent model are not as high as for iPhone. Unfortunately WP is very unpopular and since none of my friends got one there is no way I can find out few things about it.
Perhaps you will be kind enough to answer my questions?
1. On iOS there is no problem in getting apps from different markets. I live in Poland but with VPN service I got access to NBC, ABC, Hulu, etc. Getting an app is simple - you just switch iTunes account and as long as US or UK app is free I can download it without problem.
Android is a bit more difficult... had to root the phone (with some help) and for stuff like that I need to look in the internet no in Google Play shop.
As far as I know WP requires Live ID and this determines what is available to us. Switching Live ID's = hard reset :-(
So, question is: can I get (and how difficult is it) apps from US and UK markets to my phone?
If answer to Q1 is YES (with some details, please ) - than:
2. Will it work on any WP device or (like wit Android phones) some of them are "no go" in this area?
3. Does WP has a VPN client/support?
4. How features like above will or do influence Windows 8? Both WP & Win8 would be a great tandem but from what I know it looks that MS will try to "lock" both in order to make cash on appstore. Is this correct?
5. One more thing, is it possible to use WP device as GSM router for other devices (like in Android phones)?
Hi,
Some short answers here too
Your phone out of the box with your live id can't download/install apps from other marketplaces. It is possible to sideload apps, but I haven't done it so far, 'cause in Germany and for me I found everything needed. Don't know how the situation in Poland looks like.
WP7 does not support VPN. VPN will come in WP8, as Microsoft said in some dev blogs.
MS won't lock W8 to the new store. But you have to differ between W8 x86 and W8 RT (ARM). W8 RT will - I suppose - have some sort of lock like WP7 (and possibly WP8).
Yes, it's called Internet Connection Sharing, but it is not enabled on all devices. It depends on the device manufacturer. WP7 is able to share the connection, but if the manufacturer don't want the device to do it or maybe they want to save money in the development of the device ( ) you can't to it without some little hacking.
Does any one knows... if I will buy let say Lumia 800 in Poland, will I be able to:
- connect to the VPN service I am using?
- install Netflix (US market only)
- install Hulu + (as above)
- install BBC iPlayer (UK market only)
- usie the phone as mobile router
Where do I look for info. - how to do it?
The only current way to VPN on WP7 is to connect to a network that is already using a VPN (WiFi, such as by Internet Connection Sharing from your PC, or by plugging in the phone to the PC and running the Zune software, which will create an Ethernet-over-USB network for the phone).
I can't say for sure about the Marketplace access. It will depend on your credit card, your Microsoft account, and your VPN (if you use one), and possibly even your mobile operator.
Sharing the phone's Internet connection is a supported WP7 feature, but I'm not sure if the Lumia 800 supports it yet. The feature is called "Internet Sharing" and is in the Settings hub. It's available on all Samsung Windows phones, and I think on all HTCs too. Not sure if it's on the Lumias yet, but Nokia has said they were working on it some time ago. Note that if your carrier blocks or requires payment for this service (sharing the cellular Internet connection), the phone will block the feature until you comply. There are hacks to work around that restriction entirely, but those hacks are only currently possible on Samsung, HTC gen1, LG, Lumia 710, and a few Lumia 800 phones.
Thanks for your answer.
As much as I would love to dump Android - I simply can not :-(.
Hello XDA!
This is my first post here and I hope all of you will get it serious.
It is posible to make an android phone to boot anything else than Android?
Can we make a little OS from scratch for an android phone?
How and from what point we can start?
Why I ask these? Because I started to hate current mobile operating systems and I miss a lot Symbian...
I really want a new operating system more "offline" and which want to offer long usage time for our smartphone with one charge...
Like lets say if we could run Symbian in our Android phones ... how many days we could use them with one battery charge?
If when Symbian was alive we had 1000+/- mAh batteries and we could use our phone few days, now we have 4000+ mAh ... let's dream for a second that we have symbian installed, we could use our current smartphones for at least a week!? Or I'm wrong?
So we really can't start something new?
If nobody want to do it ... then teach me how I can boot an android phone into something made from scratch and I will do it...
I need sombody to explain some basic things about android like what I should keep and from what point I can start to make a new OS ... but not android based ...
Why to want to re-invent the wheel? Several mobile OS already exist:
