[Q] First ROM install running into "Emergency Calls Only" or "No Service" - General Questions and Answers

[Q] First ROM install running into "Emergency Calls Only" or "No Service"
I apologize if this in the wrong section. I have recently upgraded stock Galaxy SIII (SGH-1747M) to Liquid Smooth (LS-KK-v3.0-2014-02-09-d2lte.zip) The phone was rooted and Clockwork MOD touch restore was installed. The Rom install went fine after I solved a few problems (SD card wasn't formatted to FAT32, was using an older restore at first and it error-ed out the liquid smooth install). It was new so I was going through all the settings not changing anything just looking and getting familiar with it. After I got out of the settings I was faced with Emergency Calls Only. I searched google and this forum and what I found it suggested that I go into Settings-> Wireless & Networks-> More-> Mobile Settings-> CMDA Subscription and make sure it is set to RUM/SIM and not NV. I go in NV was selected and selected RUM/SIM it goes out of the menu I go back in and NV is selected again even tried rebooting the phone and doing it same thing, I made sure network was set to automatic and not home only and that the ACN information was correct. It seems no matter what I do I can't select this menu item and have it stay and only way to get service back is to reinstall and not go into this section of the settings. In total I have probably re-installed this ROM 3 or 4 times plus the original install. I need this phone for work and can't have it going in Emergency Calls Only or No Service and having to re-install it to get service back is getting tiresome. I also installed this ROM on my girlfriends phone and she has gone into this menu and looked around with no issues, she is on the same liquid smooth and the initial rom install. The phones are exactly the same other then the color and the carrier which supplies service to the phones. My carrier is Virgin Mobile (Canada) and hers is Fido. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated and I thank you for your time in advance on this issue.

Lost my number

I have an Huawei Ascend from MetroPCS that I have rooted and updated to android 2.2. All went well for about a week until I accidentally deleted Talk, I started getting the force close for a lot of my apps and my wifi was cutting out. Today I noticed that I had zero bars and looked under phone status only to find that "My phone number" is now "Unknown". Does anyone know how to set that or do I have to go back to factory and call Metro? Also the link for the recovery package (MetroPCSStock Recovery Package with Scripts) redirects to another sight, do I have to sign up for that sight to get the recovery file? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
One other thing when I boot up my phone it has a message that reads "no UIM card Emergency calls only". Is this like a SIM card in which case Metro phone don't have those so I am probably screwed.
hey man I am having the same exact problem NO UIM card emergency calls only Please insert a UIM card I even flashed to a backup image I made liek 15 days prior to having this problem tonight and still didn't make any differnace bro I dont know wtf to do now...

Samsung Stratosphere 2 - Verizon

Hello,
I want to buy Samsung Stratosphere 2 SCH-i415 from someone who got it from Verizon.
I don't live in US and I want to use it in other country. If I unlock it - can I use it with any mobile carrier?
Thanks
Hey, was looking around the forum for something else and stumbled onto this thread.
Maybe you've already solved this, but here's the answer is anyone else are looking;
First off, if the phone has been activated first time with a verizon sim card in the US already, it should be unlocked and ready for calling and sms. Verizon doesn't sim lock the phone, only lock APN's for GPRS/3G traffic (solution for that below)
Just bought this phone off ebay, got it to Norway and set about using it with a norwegian sim card.
First thing I needed to do was bypass the verizon setup wizard, as it just kept saying "non-verizon sim" and asking me to reboot.
The solution for this was remarkably simple, http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=36lfn9sBo70
"1. Make sure you are on the select language screen.
2. Tap bottom left, Tap bottom right, Tap bottom left, Tap bottom right, Press Volume Up Key in that exact same order. Watch video if you are confused.
3. All Done. "
Next is rooting, need to do this for the next steps;
Depending on what software you have (4.0.4 or 4.1.2), grab the system image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078615 (page 8 for 4.0.4, page 7 for 4.1.2)
Then we want to remove the annoying "non-verizon sim" notification;
Use Titanium Backup pro to freeze the app called "Setup Wizard 1.0" (the one with verizon logo on it, not the version 1.3 one)
Job done. Now you can freely use any sim card anywhere for calling and sms (afaik)
For GPRS/3G traffic you will need to add your APN settings, but Verizon has locked this menu, so we need another way in.
I used "APN Manager Pro" to add my carriers APN data, the app found it in the database and did everything for me.
There are probably other, free ways to do this (editing apn xml file manually and so on) but I found this app well worth the few bucks they charge for it.
If you want to do it manually there are some other guides around here, and googling will get you some hints too.
The only problem I have left now is trying to get mine updated to Jelly Bean, as Verizon only uses OTA update, and won't let me do it from Norway with a non-verizon sim card, but I have faith we will find a solution for this too.
Otherwise a great phone for the full-qwerty addicts out there :good:
Hey I in sweden using a swedish sim card and I got the gprs/3g to work somehow without rooting. I managed to upgrade the firmware via wifi, and I think that opened the apn settings. but my main question is if its possible to open the 4G cause it only has gprs/3G now. and I wonder if u also just get gprs/3g or do get 4g also?
It can't be this easy can it?

Great thanks! I will be testing this out later today. I hope it works!
confirmation
hey guys,
i can confirm i got this working on china mobile with some changes.
didnt find a database option in apn manager. i found the manual data here: (pm for link. not enough posts to make links apparently)
also found in order to get apn manager to save a new apn i needed to make it a system app with titanium.
also found, you dont need apn manager at all. if you go to settings ->more settings->mobile networks->access point names and then hit the "menue" button (three vertical dots at the bottom right of the phone), you get an option to add access point. fill out your info, and hit that button again, and you will see an option to save.
hope that helps someone else.
Look at the thread [Q] Rooting the Samsung Stratosphere II? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2078615&page=27) at page 27 post #262 how to get a rooted image of MF1.
And in the same thread at page 31 post #305 how to get a rooted image of MJ2 which is currently (feb 2014) the latest ROM version for Stratosphere II.
Thanks to kado01 for his work.
I has been confirmed that the Stratosphere II can be rooted by the saferoot method.
Look in the above link at page 26 post #257.
Since version MF1 you can easily access the APN settings. So, no need to install any APN manager.
I have simply added the APN settings for my network provider manually and it works great.
And finally please take a look at the above thread at page 31 post #308 and the following to help kado01 get an unbrick file for his problem?
I can't do it because I am unable to upgrade my phone to MJ2 with the MJ2 bootloader because I don't live in the US and my phone is not activated on Verizons network. I can only install kado01's MJ2 rooted image.
Thanks.
Add new APN possible
How to add apn to verizon samasung galaxy stratosphere 2 i415 (Root required)
(I found this from some forum while I was searching for how to add APN for my brothers Verizon S3. It worked 100%. All credits go to the guy who posted it there. I didn't remember the address. And sorry for my bad english.)
Go to market install BuildProp Editor
Once installed find and open Build Prop Editor
Hit the menu button and select Edit
Scroll to the bottom of screen and add the following lines
ril.sales_code=LOL
ro.csc.sales_code=LOL
Hit the save button at the top right hand corner of the screen(looks like a disk)
Once this is done saving restart the phone
After restarting go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks>Access Point Names>Menu Button>+ New APN
Add desired carriers APN info, when finished hit menu button and save
Power down and change to your desired SIM card if you hadn't already done so
Power back on and go to Settings>More Settings>Mobile Networks> Access Point Names (if done properly you should see the APN data you entered for your respective carrier).
Select the respective APN listing and then you should have working data
Congrats you can now natively add in any APN desired.

[Q] Stuck in roaming after flashing MIUI (fixed)

Hey everyone here at XDA, just wanted to share my recent experience with loosing my phone service after flashing MIUI from the clockwork rom manager app. Basically, i flashed the rom from within the rom manager app and really liked the rom until I noticed that I had lost data and phone service. Apparently I was stuck in roaming, with a little triangle replacing the 4g icon in the notification bar at the top of the screen. I did a bunch of searching through forums and everyone who was having this issue was having it due to the loss of there IMEI. The people afflicted by loss of service did not have the correct IMEI or any at all on their phone.
But my IMEI was there and it was correct. So I restored the nandroid backup I made at the time of flashing MIUI but that didn't solve the issue so I restored the backup I made when I originally rooted my phone and installed CWM. That still didn't fix it. Some forum posts were saying the SIM card might have been fried, some were saying that they had totally lost the ERI folder, or something... I was getting worried. The last thing I tried was flashing a stock 4.1.1 rom via Odin and still I had no service. Well I needed a phone for work so I went on the VZW site Monday morning and switched my service to an old blackberry storm (I know, right?) that I had laying around and went to work. When I got home I looked on the web some more and found info about accessing the hidden menu with a code that wipes all data and settings. Is this different than the factory wipe from the settings menu? Anyway I wiped via the hidden menu and after that the little roaming triangle was gone. I switched my service back to the Gs3, which involved taking out the SIM card and registering it again, and after that my service, data, and 4g icon was back. Problem solved. I am wondering though if I could have used the hidden menu/wipe feature from MIUI, and for that matter what caused my phone to get stuck in roaming?
I would like to root, and explore other roms but now I'm worried about this happening again. It doesn't help that someone told me service providers can deny service for rooting your phone. I don't know if that's true or not. I know now that I should make a IMEI backup, even though I don't think that was my problem. I recently took the ota and am back on stock 4.1.2. Just wanted to share this with everyone, and bounce it around to see if anyone has any ideas, and maybe this could help someone who is having the same issue. As far as the hidden menu and wipe code, I don't remember what it was but you could look it up if you need to try it.
Thanks everyone

My suggestion, never use Rom Manager to flash!! Stick to TWRP(I prefer twrp), CWM or Odin.

Suddenly No service some time after root

So got this shiny new phone and decide to root it for adblock etc.
The root went fine, I used the Xperia-L root zip not the chop--- something. So a while after that, maybe a day or two suddenly I get a No Service.
I went into Settings-Mobile Networks and try to choose the network manually, I couldn't, I can move through Auto and Manual but when I select Manual it always goes back to Automatic. Can you guys confirm that that settings doesn't work? Can you choose Manual instead of Automatic?
Then the phone scanned for available networks and it found my home network relatively easy...
NOW selecting my home network gives me the error "Could not join network right now. Please try again later"(or something like that). A minute after that a toast message pops up "Registered on Network" but I still get no service...
Anyone have any idea? I thought Sony phones are root friendly with them sponsoring CM and all....
I have tried everything. Unlock, relock bootloader, restored TA...flashed stock firmware....taking the sim card out while power is still on and inserting it again.....
So frustrating, thanks for any insight....:fingers-crossed:
It happened with me..
What I did is,
Switched off the phone
Removed SIM card
Restarted phone
Again switch it off
Inserted the SIM card
Restarted the phone..
It worked!

Losing phone signal

My Galaxy A01 core loses network signal, when I go to turn on mobile data it doesn't work.
When I go to make a call, a message appears saying "Not registered on the network".
I tried to register it by going into the settings, but it didn't work, I tried to format it and it didn't work either.
I have already updated the Android, I went back to an old version and it's still the same (Android 10 Go edition).
I have to keep restarting it to get it back to normal.
Can anyone help me?
