Nexus 5 has radio or not?
As in an FM Radio?
The answer is NO.
No, it doesn't.
You will have to use an Online radio app like TuneIn...
Hi,
It seems not: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46213683#post46213683 (a bit old but...).
I swear I flashed a Rom a week or so ago that had a fm radio app that worked. Can't remember which Rom right now cause I flash a lot. I'm at work now but I'll try and find some more info today.
Update... Looks like I'm wrong the nexus 5 does not have a fm radio built in.

it could have been an internet radio app, as the nexus 5 doesnt have a fm/am receiver.

We can all guarentee that there is no FM transmitter inside the phone. The sprint HTC one and g2 (off the top of my head) have this and I know that because the radio in STL is constantly advertising "use the next radio app and don't drain battery or use precious data to listen to the radio."

Any one know how to get FM tuner going. I can't locate software.

Wrong section but I also was wondering this too. Maybe we can pull the files from the o2x.

I have seen a couple of sites say that it didn't have a FM Tuner and then a lot more that says it does.
I wish there was some clarification on this and a known way to access it assuming that there is one.
I tried playing with it in the hidden menu and I never got it to work so I believe that it's there it's just not enabled in the kernel
Official site states that it have FM tuner.

I got the phone last night...there is no FM tuner on it.
I am trying to find one similar to the one on the darkstone froyo build for the HD2...
I don't know if T-Mobile changed it, or if I am remembering wrong, but I am pretty sure the T-Mobile G2x features page used to list an FM radio, but it sure isn't there now. I remember being very excited about it because I use the FM radio on my Nexus all the time. This may be a deal breaker for me. Hopefully the dev community can get it working.
Also seems odd for them to not enable FM radio for this phone when the O2x has it and the Optimus T also has one.

How do you get to the hidden menu?
http://cheapcellunlockedphones.com/lg-optimus-2x-hidden-menu/
I needed to use LauncherPro to find the activity. Just be careful, there is items that will completely up your phone in this menu and we don't have an nv-flash backup yet.
Try using the APK from the LG O2x. It should work, because the G2x firmware contains most of, if not all of the same framework the O2x features.
There is a app on the market call wunderradio it does all ur local FM stations and more its with the $ try that and see what u think used it for a few years keeps getting better plus It does not require headphones to work

The apks were posted in the above post, but from what I can tell they didn't have success yet.
Can anyone try these out and see if they work for them?
From what I've read the radios in the O2x and G2x are a bit different, so the FM capability could be different.
I think the Nexus One was also capable of Wireless N and FM radio, but neither of those were ever enabled.

Didnt work, tried it.
Realistically, if we're assuming that the radio is included in the hardware, but removed software-wise, then we should probably start with determining if we even have a driver for it or not. I don't have my phone yet, so can't help.
In all official listings before release FM radio was in the specs list. I hope they only remooved software.

This seems to be the similar problem that we had with Samsung Vibrant. Unfortunetly there was a hardware missing on Vibrant, but hoping it is not the case for G2x. Hopefully kernel fix and drivers, along with the apk from o2x would fix it.(fingers crossed)
Do you guys with a GSM Nexus S or maybe the CDMA version experience some sort of wifi throttling?
It's like my wifi gets throttled and apps like XDA, Twitter, Facebook and even the market timeout. Websites also load super slow!
I know it's not my wifi or internet because I get 40Mbps down and 20Mbps up so there's no way its my internet. So I don't know what's up! And its really frustrating me!
So you guys know what might be going on? Maybe I need a radio update? I did install the Trinity kernel but it doesn't seem to have helped except maybe in the battery department.
And I also just got this phone 2 days ago.

Update your radio?
HTC phones have radios that control... well the radios of the phone so I don't know if the Nexus is the same.

What are you talking about? control what?
WiFi is completely fine. I know some NS4G users are having problems with it but it looks like you're using the GSM variant of Nexus S.
The radio is like a driver that controls wifi, network, and Bluetooth radios....
I read about the data drops on the CDMA Nexus. And yes I have the GSM variant

I know what a radio is. What I'm telling you to do is to update your radio if it isn't the latest (or use another radio than what you're using currently).
Oh!
You had said update your radio with a question mark haha...
Okay, the latest radio?

What are the typical speeds that most of you get on ATT with your Nexus S? I ask because Im using a Galaxy Nexus and I know it has a better radio than the S. I get speeds of anywhere from 1.5-3mb down. My niece in the same area is getting around 500k. I heard that I could flash the radio on the Nexus S to the KB3 and it would dramatically increase her speeds. (Apparently there is a cap on the current stock radio??)
I plan on manually updating her device to JB and i figured that while im at it, just flash that radio instead of the stock one. Would this make sense to do or does the stock radio on JB fix the issues that most have with data speeds on att and this device?
Is there a better option I should try for her? A different radio that is better? I would like to keep her as stock as possible as far as ROM goes but I dont have a problem trying radios if it would help the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

It's funny, I installed KB3 radio and it's not showing up as HSDPA like it did with 2.3.7. I haven't checked the speeds, Usually the kb3 radio is much faster.

as far as i know , it seems all these radios depends on the area and your operator.
not always newer radios is better than older ones. you better test them all by yourself unless you find someone who lives in the same area and with same phone and even who has tested them all...

Thanks for running the test. I'm going to go ahead and test a few radios and see which is best. This at least shows me that the stock radio is in fact being restricted.

I'm wondering if there is a kernel/rom that allow to listen fm radio off line.
thanks
Nexus s doesn't support FM radio
IT doesn't have the hardware. Use an app over wifi or.... Hmmm... Use a radio. What are the like 3 dollars for a battery powered portable radio. Honestly. I :banghead:

Buy one of those headsets that has a built in radio receiver, because NS doesn't have a radio for, well, um, radio. according to the laws of conservation, we can't just materialise a radio out of nothing/nowhere, no unless you're magic, NS won't have a FM radio.

Hardware it's inside the BT chipset, but it's missing the necessary wiring to make it work, as well the kernel driver...

Before i flashed jellyfirebean i had the stock android 2.3 that came with my HTC Desire S, As i used the radio app, i noticed that it used the headphones as an aerial rather than relying on an internet connection, however now that i have flashed a new rom that option is no longer available to me, the ability and hardware still exists but i have no app to be able to do this.
would it be possible for someone who is on the stock rom to just export it over for me into an apk, or could anyone just reccomend a radio app that can work without using an internet connection
sorry if i have posted this in the wrong place i am a newbie
Search for Spiti FM here on xda or on play store. Its a good replacement for radio.
