Any ex SE-NSE members? - General Questions and Answers

Any oldschool ex SE-NSE members around here?
Its just so sad to see a community like that just vanishes.... It was a nice place, back in the days!
If anyone had a K800i / K790i might just remember me, I did some acoustics mods; Peter's Acoustic Mods =]
I was going to put a link here, but this is just my very first post on XDA... anyway, it seems SE-NSE has been shutdown on the past weeks?
All gone...
But I did find something interesting, Sony's acoustics profile on my ZL seems to share a lot of familiarity with K800i ones.... When I pass the 10 posts mark I'm gonna share some tweaks that can be useful to some!
Its nice to be back to a developer community! Even though I feel so noob right now.. just catching the wave with Android!
Cheers everyone!

I used to an Esato member..and a SE-NSE member..diehard SE fan back in the day

Yeah! I was an ESATO member too, GSM forum, and there was another one, not so big... Lasyk something I guess.. and Top Sony too!
I was [am?] SE fan since it was Ericsson! haha
I had a KF788 > T18d > T60d > k800i... than had some nokia devices, bus mostly for the price.. Sony Ericsson was just too expensive here in Brazil.

Good to connect with an ex -SE fan man..

First one on the bandwagon!! Gotta say Oly, you're bringing a lot of life to these boards with these great threads.

So, for starters, i think it would be cool if we all introduced ourselves - as in what we do when we're not on XDA, hobbies, background, etc... what say? Anyone game?

Not been on here very long, but like the community...
I'm an ePOS technician at the moment, although my background was all in telecomms / datacomms.
When not working I enjoy getting out into the countryside, going out on my mountain bike (although don't get as much time for that nowadays as I might like), or spending time with my kids (when I get the weekend access of course)
Well; you wanted a volunteer
Good idea, I work as a Java lead in an investment back....

I'm an Orthopaedic Surgeon. Wish i had something awesome to say about my tech background - but there's none.
I dilly dally in every possible hobby, when i get the time, which is usually after hospital hours, and if I'm not in the E.R. I'm most active betwenn 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. which is dedicated to digital art, PC Gaming, Facebook snooping etc. In the day, when i get time, I either go biking (motorcycle - The Royal Enfield 350cc Electra) or roam around with my Canon 550D capturing light. What I do on XDA is out there for you to see. Though with work increasing progressively, it's taking a toll on all these...
Anyone else ?

Well done....Oly!
I'm Ben as you know, well what better way to start than with my Twitter Bio, not that I'm much of a tweeter, more of a watcher!
"Loud bloke, stopped looking for a volume control years ago, London born. Loves technology, football (Man Utd), friends and family, his cats & lovely lady wife!" could add loves eating, drinking and most types of Sport! (watching the Grand Prix as I write this - on record so no one tell me who Qualified first!)
Spent 10+years in City of London, in variety of IT roles starting as programmer, and finished in application support/Oracle DBA. Spent the last 5 years working in the GIS team in an IT department for the local Council (so not quite cutting edge!)
I'm Oliver (or Oly as you know me )
I'm a student, I live in Southport, (near Liverpool).
I have a deep passion for technology, especially Android. I first signed up on XDA with my first smartphone , the XDA Orbit, then progressed through to several devices.
Outside of XDA, I'm just a regular guy, I love playing football, sports, watching TV, listening to music etc.
I also have a strong passion for playing Guitar, I have self-taught myself through YouTube and stuff like that. I also play the Bassoon, which I am currently as we speak composing a song for which is terrible! (bloody coursework)
I also do a martial art called Ju-Jit-Zu, in my spare time. I've been training for 5 years, and will be taking my black belt in June
I'm Shrome, a 16 year old student from Chandigarh, India.
I love technology, especially Android. This is one thing probably everyone here has in common. I love football, (FC Barcelona), spend my free time playing Xbox.

Hi there! I'm Martin, 32, building contractor.
Went to the shops today with itching wallet, well... One S is far too thin to be comfy in daily use, screen is terrible (imho desire s screen looks much sharper and clear, even with lower res). One X is HUGE, screen is beautiful indeed, but... Did I mention it is HUGE? Also it's too light for my taste.
I think I'll stay here for a while. Desire S is still doing it's job for me, I love it's design and cold alloy feel, size is just perfect and battery life with Endymion 3.4 is amazing - 2 days of normal use on one charge (one day if browsing/gaming a lot and I believe that using it as a regular phone could give You even 4 - 5 days on one charge).
See You around.

I guess 1-2 (to chelsea) although ideally 5-5 would be perfect.

Hacking the SSW2 - is it Possible?

Anyone have any ideas on how, what to try ? ... what driver does it use (PC) ?
Custom firmware is the aim for me really, so do we have any devs working on this or is it a non starter?
Google it bro, they held a convention in Germany I believe recently, specifically aimed at skilled devs 'hacking' the ssw2 as they have made the code open source, revealing Sony SDK and some other tools to the devs, even offering prizes to the top 3 apps created.

There's a lot of ppl working on this now but its early days and no guarantees, the question really is what do you expect to achieve from custom firmware? As long as the newly integrated apps keep rolling out, Sony will release their own fw and software updates to keep up with the pack

Sorry i missed your reply ...
I'm not entirely sure what i want exactly, i just like to hack most devices i have ... unlock their potential, im usually unimpressed by manufacturers firmware efforts, especially when you sample what can be done sometimes ...
Anyhoo ... for anyone thats interested, i found this site http://lunarius.fe80.eu/blog/category/hacking.html which explains a bit about how to upload the firmware etc, sounds interesting, perhaps someone with a bit more knowledge than me can tinker ?

Hey man, the main issue i have with most smart watches is - they are not standalone devices, they are simply Bluetooth receivers to display your notifications. The only sw I know of this far that IS running android, is the Motorola motoactiv you should sus that out, there IS already custom ROMs and apps for it and it can connect to the internet.

Has anyone seen a lollipop ROM for the Inspire/Desire?

I'm not expecting a lollipop update, but it sure would be cool to dust off the old device and give it a fresh coat of paint. Anyone know of somebody who's developing for it? I'd donate to the cause.:good:

"Mustas cm 12" is not for the HTC Desire/Inspire. It is for the HTC One M7. Huge Difference. It would be nice to find something Kitkat or above to lower the power consumption. Blackout's ICS was a great flash except for the fact that your phone goes dead in 20 min. Does 4.4 and up even support a single core? I just want to be able to use my old Inspire for scripting and playing ePSXe.apk and DraStic EMU's. Thank you marknoll for pointing our dinosaurs in the right direction though.

Dude. Wtf. Yes it is! I know the diff's between devices. I been modding and hacking for a very long time. And yes, mustas cm 12 IS a lollipop based ROM. Don't come on here and insult my intelligence. Dhd and inspire have compatible Roms. I'm running cm 12 musta on my inspire now

If your intelligence was insulted then that sounds personal problem. If you would have just posted the link to the mod in the first place instead of trying to make yourself look smart then I would have just flashed my phone and thanked you. Instead I searched for "mustas cm 12" and only found it for an "HTC One M7". Obviously you didn't read my post or you would have realized that I said nothing about there being a difference between a Desire HD and an Inspire. So put it back in your pants, I have a strong suspicion you aren't as smart as you think you are or you'd know that "compatibilities" is not a word.
Yes. Compatibilities is a word. Second of all, maybe you need to learn to read clown. I said must as cm12 is a ROM for the inspire and dhd. Can't get any simpler than that

Yes, I was mistaken as to the what devices cm 12 works or doesn't work on, and I removed my comment so that no one would be misled by it. I had no intention of trolling you and even thanked you for pointing us in the right direction. But you, you are exquisitely pathetic, trying to insult me every few minutes, thinking I was actually reading what you were saying just because my browser was logged into this forum. What are you, 12? Do you get your rocks off hanging around this forum all day everyday showing off to people like you're some significant developer. Don't your eyes get tired after stalking people on this forum non-stop, marking your favorite threads like a dog in a yard. Did I get to close to your fence Sparky. Oh wait, maybe it's Sparkie. I'm not sure because I don't know how to read and your so smart. You really showed me, "Just what you thought". You're probably just some out of work stereo installer who learned a few lines of code but wants everyone to think he's a master hacker who's done this for soooooo long. I'm sure there's nothing you don't know, you must be god-like, especially in your weekly D&D circle. Are you the dungeon master when the other guy is too sick to play? I bet you own a suit of armor, or a collection of swap-meet samurai swords. Methinks thou drinketh much mead at the festivals of the games of war. As for my excuse, I haven't done any significant programming in almost 30 years and I'll probably learn all that you know from a few months of teaching myself from free online courses and blogs, then again I may be giving you too much credit. Any errors I made are probably the side effects from the pain killers I'm on and insomnia is finally taking its toll. Or maybe I just smoked a bowl and was too stoned to give a crap. What's your excuse? Are you just a know it all? Either way, I don't really care what you think you know, or even think of me. Go ahead and waste my time, I've got plenty of it, and even more to spare. Yip, yip, yip, Sparky.

Hey, I don't have live with you and deal with your anger issues. Remember, or scroll back, you attacked first. Not me. NEW QWERTY Android Slider Coming!!!

https://www.readyfx.com/
Not sure if this was posted previously, please share. Coming from the same folks that developed a keyboard mod for the Moto z phones
Sincerely hope the device is successful
Based on my past devices, you can tell I had a great love for QWERTYs, just want to spread the word to fellow QWERTY lovers
I feel like there's a small, but committed group out there that never wanted to give up on QWERTY phones, but all of us were forced away from that choice because no one wanted to build a new phone for various reasons (cost, durability, design, market, etc.)
If this device goes well enough, hopefully it will spark a comeback of the physical keyboard

That thing looks enormous. I don't think it's desgined to be used like conventional qwerty sliders with you thumbs. The keyboard is too big for that. And I also don't think it's big enough to use comfortably woth 2 hands. Only my opinion but the device I posted seems much easier to use

I believe he owns the company or works there. Check out all the pics of device development. Hopefully it gives you a better idea of size. Regarding the device you posted, it doesn't look like the main screen is designed to be used vertically like a regular phone. I'm sure the gemini PDA is a great device, but I don't think it's phone the way people would want to use it.
Also a slide mechanism is probably easier to use than a flip mechanism. Thanks for sharing, I was actually surprised how much backing they got through crowdfunding

First rate custom kernel

We need an awesome, knowledgeable Dev to create a beautiful custom kernel for this device. The trend seems to be going towards support for cheaper devices. Don't really care about custom roms anymore. They usually suck compared to stock.
Hopefully without bloat.
