[Q] Problem with Internet connection and Audio - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a Nexus 5, with BeanStalk on it.
When I installed Beanstalk, I got sometimes weird sound, like a modem, in my earphones. I supposed first that it was normal, because it was happening at the same time of a network switch (like losing connection to my WiFi, or 3G connection lost, in the subway). It makes the sound one or two times, then my music continue to play.
The Internet problem appeared at the same time of when the weird sound became longer and very persistent. The only way to stop it was when I used the plane mode to cut my connection.
My phone wasn't able to access the Internet. I call my provider, Vidéotron, and they pushed something on my SIM card. Now, I can only access (through my cellular connection, WiFi is fine) website with HTTPS, not HTTP.
Near the Valentine's Day, I busted my data plan, and I called my provider to extend it. I needed to call two more times to get it activated. May be it's related.
Thanks for the help!
PS: I will provide any additionnal information if asked

Only accessing HTTPS on my phone connection would not be an option for me but if you are fine with it I guess that is your choice. I would not accept this as a viable option. I doubt it was beanstalk....
It was them. They are coming.

This is not a viable option!
I tested on my stock ROM, and the Internet was OK. This is what made me supposed that it was the ROM

sooooo crisis averted?
I would post in beanstalk ROM or search in there to see if anyone else had the issue and to make it known. Could've been a fluke, computers are strange sometimes but people make them that way.

Cannot access Sprint Data & Wi-Fi keeps dropping password

I've had my Touch Pro2 for almost a week...and still no data connection. Been working with technical support (phone) but haven't gotten anywhere. Multiple reps swear there isn't anything wrong with my plan, and the switch should have gone over to the new phone (Was on a Mogul before). Voice and SMS work fine. The folks have stepped me through a few profile updates...and I've tried driving around t see if other towers would work (?? - don't even know if that would work...but the CS rep suggested it) to no avail. Anyone have this problem before when switching out to new devices and have a suggestion for advanced troubleshooting? Thanks.
Since data isn't working, I've been using WiFi in my house. Never really tried using it extensively before an a WM device...and have been frustrated with having to frequently re-enter the WPA2-PSK AES key to my home network. Is this a known issue? Since it could be related to my Sprint Data connection constantly trying to initialize (wish I knew how to turn that off/stop it), I'm not even sure anyone else has seen the problem before. I won't care once the Sprint data finally comes online, but it sort of irks me. Any help/suggestion here would be appreciated as well

You've tried CS, and you've tried multiple towers, I believe I would demand a new device, at this point. See if switching devices fixes the issue. This is not normal.
With the new device try running it and verifying that it can connect, before installing any new programs, or making any changes first.
New Device it is
New device came today..works fine. Wonder what may have caused the problem in the first phone? I'm happier now
Any thoughts on the dropped/forgotten Wifi password? Should WM store the network key, or does it not store for WPA2-PSK AES?
Thanks for the response dah54
We should switch this into two separate topics, I am also having the key drop issue however my data works fine
My network is WPA-PSK
Fine with me. Since mine was possibly a hardware error and a new phone resolved the EVDO data connection problem, I'm happy to have it changed (I cannot edit my original post title, so I think its in the hands of the moderators.
Bumping this up to the top. I just started playing with my TP2 (sprint) tonight and it keeps dropping my network key as well.

Need Help, Possible new WP7 WIFI bug?

(This is not device specific errors.)
HTC HD7, used for 2 months. From 2 days ago. basically stopped connecting to WiFi networks with NEW names. As soon as taping on the new network, it goes to 'connection unsuccessful' error instantly. (Not even trying to connect), while my other devices working fine on these networks. The phone is actually able to connect to any other wifi network it had previously remembered (SSIDs like linksys, netgear, even other hotel wifis, coffee wifis,). I have tried at least 10 different new wifi network, the phone simply refused to connect..
Note with 'secured network', phone asks for a password, but as soon as taping 'done', error message appearing straight away (connection unsuccessful, note, if typed wrong password, does give a different error, 'invalid password') and ask to retype password. Note, this is not due to wrong password, the password has been thoroughly tested.)
Any ideas?? I have been travelling a lot with my phone these two months. Like 10 different cities...imagine the number of wifi profiles saved in my phone?? like 100+?? The windows phone give up on me?? Comeon....my iphone has not done that in 3 years....
Additional note, the tested networks are 802.11b/g not n. So should be fine......
Since this HALF BUILT windows phone 7 SW does not have other useful menus that allow me to explore a bit further in the phone. All I can do is just restart wifi, phone.....I do not want to reset..BTW, the SW does not offer reset setting option...only reset whole phone.....?
Possible solution:
1. I have read through this forum. Looks like it is possible to play with the registry files (to remove some of the wifi profiles)?
2. When I get home, I will change my home router to the SSIDs that the phone might have connected to and delete them when they pop up to free some space. This way, I should be able to verify my theory!
If you long press a remembered wifi profile, you get the option to delete it
Yes, of cuz. But u have to let the remembered network to appear in your list in the first place? How do you do that when u r travelling around?
This is just ridiculous.
I am seeking methods outside what I mentioned above.
Waiting for someone to help here...
I have tried to change my home network SSID to those the phone had previously remembered and made some discovery.
Basically the phone is able to connect to thos old SSID given they are unsecured. I was also able to delete those profiles...
However, here is the however, after deleting several old profiles, I still was not able to connect to new wifi network...And what was worse, after restarting the phone, I cannot connect to the previous SSID I have just deleted....
Basically, the phone has stopped accepting new Wifi profiles....This is some serious software bug.

I imagine Microsoft tech support would care if you called them.
The only thing you can try is to hard reset.

I didn't realize we worked for MS. Like most severe smartphone problems, you need to hard reset. If you talk to MS support they will tell you that, if you call the OEm, they will tell you that as well.
edit: and how do you know this isn't device specific?
The OP is correct. There is no way to delete remembered wifi networks without actually being in its vicinity. I have had this problem. Sometimes, a soft reset fixes the problem. Other times, I delete the network, then try reconnecting. Other times, if the router is accessible, a quick power rest fixes the problem. Also, sometimes, connecting to another network, deleting it, and then reconnecting back to the desired network solves the problem.
However, there are times that the wifi simply refuses to connect no matter what.
This looks more like an software problem. But I should not have said it is not a device specific problem 100%.
Till today, I have used Tune to backup my pictures...but have not decided to reset it yet. Cuz a lot of things need to be manually restored..
I think I will wait for the first important update come out and see if that fixes anything.
All of these arises because the OS is like a rush job, a lot of functions and menus simply does not exist.....
My phone still refuses to connect to ANY NEW wifi network. Including the one it remembered (if I delete them)
This problem has not been solved still. Just wondering is any body else having the same problem?
just ride off wp7, go for android htc desire hd,this thred will go for soooooooo many pages until you get solved your problem.please dont waist your time here like me.
This problem has been FIXED with March update!!! Now the phone runs faster and there are heaps of apps. Now I am waiting for flash and skype api etc...

Network data stream instability: need logger app

Hi guys
I'm well known for being quite wordy. I'll try to keep it short with this one. Summary: my data stream is interrupted, apps don't get or lose connection.
Network situation:
Signal strength ok up to excellent (~75-90dBm). Technology usually UMTS/HSPA, problem also occurs on GPRS/EDGE though. Happens when stationary but equally when on the move.
Devices affected:
HTC DesireZ, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy SII, Motorola Defy, HTC Desire HD. Occurred first when I was using the DesireZ but is still happening now on the Galaxy Note.
Issue/problem description:
Despite the steady and good connection to the network and of course an open data connection - we speak of Android - the actual data flow seems to be/get interrupted all the time.
When I hit a window of "data deadness" the browser doesn't load pages, online-apps refuse to work showing a spinning busy/wait indicator and eventually timing out, Maps doesn't load content, Tapatalk throws an error, in short: any online bound activity comes to a halt, despite the connection being "up".
Bad issue: when at some point the timing is really bad, GMail push gets interrupted. Worst issue: GTalk is unable to stay online. Basically whenever I load/bring to foreground GTalk, it has to reconnect. It also loses connection though when in foreground. Wake up the device, GTalk greys out the contact list and first has to reconnect. This can happen after 5 minutes, but also several times within a minute. There is no indication of any interruption or error, data just doesn't flow.
I discussed the issue several times with my providers network engineers, they are unable to help at this point. They observed my device and are happy to report that wherever I was, I had good signal and am usually connected to their HSPA network. No anomalies. The engineer yesterday said they rebooted all antennas around where I am the most, they all rebooted and came back up without any error, so their network seems to be fine, from his perspective. Since it does not only happen to me, but to several friends and relatives, and on several devices, at very different locations (one friend lives 150km away) it must be something they changed in the network. The outages don't happen when connected via WIFI, Talk is rock-solid then, they also don't happen when using another operator. One friend even tested with a pre-pay card from another operator in another country: stable connection, all the time.
So what I'm looking for is some kind of a possibility to collect logs, network data, anything to somehow try to pin down the issue and solve it. It's not like the operator is unwilling to help, he said he is just running out of options. And since it works brilliantly via WIFI, on other operators and did work for years on my operator until last August/September-ish, it must somehow be solvable. It's not the services, it's the network.
Anyone any options or ideas? Maybe an insider which has an idea what it could be?

Does anyone know of a possibility to steadily log network connectivity, data streams/flow, network stability or interruptions? It is turning me crazy and I don't know how to help my network provider help me. Duh...
The signal strength indicator will usually change colors when a internet connection is lost or being established. I believe the default colors are green for connected or grey for disconnected. On Motoblur its blue for connected and white for disconnected so the colors may very.
When it drops is the indicator changing colors or is data just dropping?
...not on Samsung-ROM's. The ability is not implemented in Samsung-ROM's.
I was running Cyanogenmod on a DesireZ, where the indicator is implemented. I also suffered the same problem on the DesireZ. The indicator never changed.
As described above, the data connection to the network is up constantly, indicated by a never-changing G, E, 3G or H+ indicator. Signal levels are good or excellent. There is no feedback by the system or obvious indication that the connection is interrupted. I do notice it only by (online) apps suffering a time-out situation, usually only when actually in use and in front. As for example:
- (mentioned) Talk having to re-sign in when being brought to front all couple minutes.
- (mentioned) GMail losing server-connection and push-capability.
- (mentioned) When trying to browse a page in the browser.
- When pulling up a train table on the public transport app.
- When buying a "mobile-ticket" in the same app, often while verifying my CCard details.
- (mentioned) When browsing various forums with Tapatalk.
- Trying to load videos in YouTube app.

WiFi calling won't stay connected, particularly overnight on Pixel 2

Is anyone else having an issue with WiFi calling disconnecting itself, especially overnight? I'm using T-Mobile and when the WiFi calling will stay connected, it works as it should. But often it either won't connect to WiFi calling when reconnecting to my home network, or most often, by the time I get up in the morning, it has fallen off WiFi calling and either has "no service" or is trying to use the virtually non existent T-Mobile signal in my home. I see no indication that it's losing the WiFi connection overnight as it's not reconnecting when I wake the phone up in the morning. I've tried prioritizing the device through my Netgear R7000 router, updating the T-Mobile account settings including the e911 address, making sure my WiFi calling settings on the phone are on and set to WiFi preferred, and rebooting into Safe Mode to make sure a third party app wasn't somehow causing the issue. (The same issue occurred in Safe Mode)
Any ideas?
Thank you all for any assistance you can provide.
Wish I had an idea. All I can tell you is I share in your misery as Wi-Fi Calling is inconsistent for me as well. While it works most of the time, sometimes it’ll drop off for no apparent reason. When it does, I can usually force Wi-Fi Calling to reestablish by putting the phone in and out of airplane mode.
FWIW, I use high-end Wi-Fi gear at home and a custom-built firewall.
Not sure if this applies to you but take a look here:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2017/10/24/google-inexplicably-removed-keep-wifi-sleep-toggle-pixel-2/
It's been my experience that Google's implementation is poor at best for WiFi calling. Constant disconnects are common and sometimes reboots are the only thing that will get it working again. It's been this way since it's inception on the Nexus devices back in the day.
On other devices such as Samsung and OnePlus WiFi calling just works. But it's always been hit or miss on Nexus/Pixel deives.
Thank you all for chiming on the matter. It does make it a little less maddening to know it's not unique to my particular device or network setup as Google customer service would imply. Their solution was to have me send in my several week old "defective" device and get a refurbished one from them instead. Besides offering no explanation as to what kind of hardware fault could possibly cause this issue, I think it's ridiculous that someone making a warranty claim on a device less than a month old for a manufacturer defect would be sent a used replacement, particularly a device at this price point.
If it helps anyone, I've found if I switch the phone to airplane mode, and turn on WiFi while leaving airplane mode on, WiFi calling has been a bit more stable so far.

Issues with Verizon V50

Folks,
I have been having some very annoying issues with my LG V50 and was wondering if anyone else has.
I have been having issues getting Hot Spot to work. It has only worked for a very brief time since I got the phone. It is working now though. I get an error about Tethering Functionality not working right now and to try again later.
I called Verizon and 1st level was unable to diagnose it and they opened a ticket. This was 4 days ago and Verizon has not contacted me.
I also had another issue which I've now discovered is related to my Hot Spot issue. So, I use an app called TuneIn Radio Pro. That app keeps thinking that I don't have network connectivity. (On cellular....on wifi it works). I've since discovered that when my Hot Spot works, that app works. When hot spot doesn't work that app also doesn't. I run speedtests and it connects. I seemingly have internet connectivity but interestingly I also cannot access tunein's web page from Chrome. But I can get to other sites. Seemed like a DNS issue but since it is working now, (and I have time) I can't test it.
Again, right now, Hot Spot is working. It has only worked for the last 4 hours and part of one other day since I got the phone 6 days ago.
Another issue (which I am hoping is a setting)....Voice input does not work when connected to bluetooth. So "OK Google" or voice input (Google) via the keyboard does not work.
Any thoughts?
I just tried setting up a hotspot and it seems there are quite a few more options than I had on my V30. I did get it to work once I chose to "unhide my phone" under the setup options. There's also a timeout due to inactivity, share wifi instead of mobile data, and the ability to block connections. I guess it's possible one of these could be giving you an problem. I would think if you have the share wifi selected but you're not connected to wifi that might create a problem...just guessing
I don't use Tune-in so can't really help with that specifically but I've had no issues streaming with other apps.
As for voice commands, I can't bring myself to talk to my devices and I have as much of it turned off as possible.

So this issue has still been going on. My hotspot will work for a day or two and then it goes back to this error condition. But now I have been going on 4+ straight days where it hasn't been working. So, I have stumbled across a situation where I can get hotspot to work.
I have OpenVPN app on my phone. If I open a VPN session (I have 2 connections to my home routers), I can then get the hotspot to start. Interestingly, hotspot traffic is not going over the VPN. I can even turn off the VPN and the hotspot stays on. But I cannot restart it unless I turn on the VPN.
This issue isn't being caused by any software on my phone. As when I first got the phone and this issue came up, I performed a factory reset and when the phone started up for the 1st time, I immediately tried the hotspot and I got the error.
I also called Verizon today to find out what was going on with my ticket from 2 weeks ago. It was escalated and then closed by the network team with no explanation. Sigh....So they re-opened it. The tech on the phone also called LG while working with me and LG told her that they've seen this issue, but no additional info.
Has anyone with a Verizon V50 been able to consistently use the Hotspot without issues? I am having so many problems with this phone that I am ready to throw it out the window. In addition to the issues I stated earlier, I also found this morning that I was not able to get to eBay (In addition to TuneIn.com). I had to switch to wi-fi and then eBay loaded just fine. Since then, eBay seems to work. IMO, this is a network problem
Over the last 2 weeks, my Hotspot worked from Friday to mid day Sunday. (maybe coincidence) And therefore tunein.com worked. Other than that, I get the error.
Verizon had been completely worthless. They closed my first trouble ticket. My second ticket has been open for 3 weeks without progress. I called today and they put me on with Level 2. I had to run to a meeting after a while, the Level 2 person said no problem tell me when to call you back. I told him 2 hours and he said no problem.....and no call.
I am just curious if others are using Hotspot successfully.
Thanks,
Update to my previous post....I haven't been able to launch the hotspot functionality since yesterday morning. I get the message of "An error occured when activating this functionality. Please try again later."
I may try a factory reset to see if that changes anything...
Decided to factory reset. That didn't change anything. Without installing anything after it was done I tried to create a hotspot and got the same error message.

THANKS!!! Exactly the message I've been getting.
Verizon has not been helpful until now. They've pretty much ignored me and closed my tickets.
Hopefully I get further along. I got a better tech support person this time. He escalated it to the network engineering team. This is a network problem as if I start a VPN session (using OpenVPN Connect), I am able to launch the hotspot.
The hotspot is a symptom, not the cause. I am just curious if you have the same exact problem as me, when you are not able to launch the hotspot, bring up a browser and try to go to tunein.com (through Verizon's network, not over wi-fi). Mine won't work. When the hotspot is working, I am able to get to tunein.com
Yep, exactly the same issue. The tunein link and the Connect Garmin app give me the same error. After I sign in to Garmin on wifi it will work as normal but definitely indicates some type of network issue.

After the update, the Hotspot seems to work. I am also able to navigate to those URLs where I couldn't get to previously.

While I am now able to launch the Hotspot, that feature is not very reliable. It stays up and "running" but my laptop will stop working after some period. Usually I get about 5-20 minutes of usage. If I disconnect my laptop and re-connect, it starts to work. (But a pain as I VPN in to work and I have to start that all over)
This phone has been a an exercise in frustration.
