Hey everyone,
So I have a Nexus 5 red and just for kicks I wanted to try out the NFC but it does not seem to work correctly and I cannot figure out why.
The phone I was trying to connect with is an S4. I am able to send them pics via NFC but when they try to send me something instead of getting the pic, the google play store opens and then everything just kind of stops.
Anyone know the reason for this?
Thanks
Maybe because the s4 and touchwiz .. I've tried as well bro.. That's my only guess..

I thought that too but I figured if that was the case it would not let me send anything either. I can send but I just can't get anything back. Its also weird that it always opens the play store. Is there some kind of app I am supposed to have for this?
I don't think so... I'm really thinking it's cause touchwiz...

Works fine both ways between my phone and the Note II.

Seems the disabling Books and Movies in stock phone doesn't stick for me. Anyone else see this?

Yea, I have this issue. Also for some reason, one of my folder rearranges itself after reboot.

Yea I've had the same problem. Some people are able to freeze it but I've tried on my last s3 and this replacement one. It'll freeze then as soon as I restart there defrosted. Its weird.

Same problem here, I even tried disabling them on another non rooted phone.
I can't imagine any problems from uninstalling them, but I just got used to freezing them on reboot or just leaving them alone.
Glad I'm not the only one having this issue.
Hi all...my gf and I both have SIIIs, mine running CM10 and hers stock. Is there anyway to get this working between the two? When I try to send to her I get an error saying large files aren't allowed to her device.
Thanks

No one uses samsungs s-beam propitiatory code while one uses standard android code. One uses s-beam which is a combination of wifi-drect and nfc. Android does them separately I believe. She'd need to be running Jellybean for it to work.
You can send small things like contacts, but not large things like pictures or videos.
Hey guys, has anybody tried had sync? I always used it on my nexus devices, however, the last update for it is on October 6th, way before KitKat release date. I've read through some of the reviews and some have mentioned of it preventing phone from going to deep sleep and causing wake locks. That was on a galaxy phones though, no mention of issues on nexus 5. I have just got the nexus, don't really want to install something that's not fully compatible yet.

Working fine for me.. Just got my phone a couple hours ago, so can't really say much on the wake lock part. But, the contacts sync up and its fine so far..

Why not try it for your self? If it causes problems just uninstall it. Plan and simple. Not like it can brick your phone because an app isn't 100% compatible.
Working fine for me too.

I have sync.me on one of my old androids letting it update my contacts...good idea if you have a old phone laying around...not sure but you could use haxsync like that too.

I did when I got my nexus. My battery died faster than expected. I looked through logs, and noticed that yahoo weather was draining a lot of battery on the background, ended up uninstalling that and haxsync because I figured that it could have been both as android usage was also high. Today, everything was fine. I will try to reinstall it.
I do seem to get some contact pics synced, I'm guessing by default Facebook app still doesn't sync contacts on stock, right? Pictures might be coming from Google +?

Been using haxsync for a week now on my N5 & no battery drain/wakelocks according to bbs from haxsync so its ok to use.

I have not as the Dev put in the description that it's only needed for 4.1. Calendar and contacts are syncing just fine without it.

Uhm I installed it, but the pictures seems to be all in low resolution.. It's because this Nexus is bigger then the previous?

On 4.4.2 haxsync doesnt work anymore at least for me
are there any alternatives?
I don't find HaxSync on Play Store, on both Play Store app (on Nexus 5) and Play Store web
There's a playstore fix in xposed installer. This may fix your problem

he removed it from play store because it is atm not whitelisted through facebook more infos on Facebook page
I was unable to find HaxSync on play store, so I searched through Google and clicked the link, works flawlessly.

MersauX,
Can you please tell me where you found it? What link? When I search for the Haxsync APK, I find a lot of sites, but I am always a bit leery at downloading them from these types of places since I worry about the files authenticity. Thanks in advance.

Thanks but it's not currently available on the play store. That's the reason I asked in the first place.
I've never had any wakelocks using haxsync, and it has never shown up in my battery stats ever.

Odd, that link works for me. Must be because I've had it installed for years...
hello i been going threw my phone for a while and i cant figure out how to make it so my phone does NOT vibrate when getting a hangouts message.. i went into settings.. either im blind or im going in the wrong spot.. thanks
First I think this is not a Nexus 5 related question, so it should be wrong here....
Second, for me it's directly under hangouts>settings>'account'....
Maybe at 4 or 5 point.

All messaging is integrated through hangouts in 4.4 (kit kat), so it is relevant. However, I did not look thoroughly enough to find how to disable vibration. Hopefully you can find it.
But this is an app related question and doesn't matter if SMS or normal hangout messages r integrated, so don't understand what u mean.
Doesn't matter, I told the way above and should be solved with this

Hey guys, are you having any issues with NFC?? Sorry if this is a repost...searched for NFC, but nothing came up. I tried placing my gf's N4 next to my N5, but nothing happened..no prompt to beam. Would love to know how you guys solved this issue, or have any idea what the problem is.
Thanks everyone!
K
Sorry for the bump...just haven't heard much....saw this: http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/bRGi6yhDCyE
But didn't help much! Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

I know it's going to sound pretty inane, but when you try to use NFC do you have your screen on? From what I know, the NFC chip is only on when the screen is on for your device.
Sent from my Nexus 5
Hi, and thank you for your response! Yes both screens are on... Tried to beam a YouTube video from my gf N4 to the N5...

Stupid question but do you have NFC turned on?

Mine works well to/from nexus 5 & 10
Sent from my Nexus 5 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the response... Is there a certain way you hold it... Like alignment wise? I tried a dozen times... Must be a hardware issue...
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Is NFC turned on in the n4? NFC has been better for me with my n5 over my n4. Places that my n4c wouldn't work at, my n5 works like a charm. I've also used NFC to transfer pics from my n5 to my wife's n4 without issue. I just held the n4 centered to the back of my n5.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thanks for the response! Yeah NFC is enabled on both devices... I also tried using NFC testing apps to see if it recognizes it... It says NFC is there and enabled, but can't be sure how accurate that is.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
i dont really know if that is an issue but my friend has galaxy s4 and we he tried to transfor a pic to my n5 with nfc it didnt work but when we tried to transfor something else like web page it worked
Yeah not sure what's going on...

I have the same thing. Trying to transfer a photo from Nexus 5 to S3 Mini
Nexus 5 makes a noise and says touch to beam so I do and then it says no connection
If I do it with a web page its no problem
I'm trying to transfer the photo using File Expert HD, maybe thats the problem
Using File Expert HD to NFC transfer between S3 Mini and My Nexus 7 tablet works fine
Mine isn't working at all! Won't even say touch to beam. I put it to the back of a nexus 7.2 and a Gnote 3 and nothing! Won't even recognize anything. There's got to be something causing this problem because my NFC was working before. I used it several times to transfer photos and now all of a sudden I get nothing??

I got a replacement from the googs so now everything is working...

I had a problem with NFC too. It wasn't working with SGS3 and Nexus 7... So I opened a back cover and raised those 4 pins just a little bit, put everything together and boom - now it works! Obviously a bad contact issue.

I tried that with no results.
Edit: I tried again, this time scraping the contacts on the back cover. Worked great!

How did you raised up the four pines? I have the same problem.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: nevermind! I figured it out! Now NFC is working properly.

Hey how did you guys do it? I'm having the same issue after replacing my screen. Do I raise the four pins on the nfc board on the motherboard? And how did you scrape the contacts on the back cover SoTacMatt?
I'm not gonna try anything before I hear from you guys. I just paid $50 for the screen and seriously don't wanna go paying $25 for the nfc.
Edit: Nevermind fixed it  apparently everyone is jumping the gun in this thread. This was the fix for me.
